Chapter 34 - The worst dreams have the worst end
I ended up asking Chiron if Alexandra could stay with me and Percy anyway. That prank was pure evil but… I can't say that it wasn't funny looking back on it… now if I were to ask her to swap Percy and Annabeth. BTW, I was talking to the head councilor of the Aphrodite cabin(silena beauregard) and I mentioned something about Percy and Annabeth and then she went into a rant that I dubbed, "THE BORE OF PERCABETH".
Basically, she wants Percy and Annabeth to get together and listening to her rant about it made me ship it too. Oh crap, I am becoming an aphrodite. Next thing I know I will be obsessing over makeup and trying to play matchmaker(BLEGH).
So anyway, after I made sure that Alexandra wasn't going to do anything to me and Percy in our sleep(I didn't force her to swear it on the styx, no…) and I fell asleep.
I had a good dreamless existence in my sleep world for about 5 seconds before I was sucked away to that stupid place called the entrance to tartarus where my brother and his friends almost fell.
"Young demigod, my servant has told me of your anger against your father." came the, wait what did I dub him again? Oh, yes, Old Mean One.
"Don't care Gramps, I have told you once, I have told you twice, I will tell you again. I am not joining you! If Luke did that is his choice, not a good one mind you but still!" I yelled. My voice seemed to have more power than it did last time I came here(in a dream not in real life)
"So, you know about Castellan?" Kronos's voice was amused.
"What ever gramps, I am tried of you plaguing me with these stupid dreams when you know I won't help you."
"If I were king again I would give the demigods the life they deserve." Kronos offered.
I found myself almost considering that for a second and then caught myself. Kronos is trying to twist my brain, I can almost sense it, "If life they deserve is being eaten for breakfast, lunch and dinner then yes. You would be giving them the life they deserve." I scoffed.
"You have just doomed yourself, demigod. You see, I can be very persuasive…" Then the scene faded and I found myself back at camp half-blood. At Thalia's tree.
"Hey!" Thalia said.
I spun around to see her sharpening a stick with a celestial bronze knife.
"You aren't gonna try and stab me with that are you?" I asked. I'm not sure whether I meant the stick, knife, or both.
Thalia laughed, "Why would I do that?" but, I think that she was thinking about it.
"I don't know… hey, what do you think about your dad?" I asked.
"What do you mean?" asked Thalia.
"Do you like your dad or do you not?" I asked, a little more straightforward.
"Well, he tries a little I guess. I mean, he preserved my spirit in the pine tree which is kinda a blessing and a curse. He also guided me when I ran away by sending me a goat, that was interesting. It's not like he doesn't know my name." Thalia said.
I groaned and sank to the ground covering my eyes.
"Hey, what's wrong?" asked Thalia.
"When my brother went to Olympus to return your father's bolt he talked to our dad, when he mentioned me… my dad called me Penny." I said shortly.
Thalia flinched back, "I'm sorry… I- I didn't realise."
"It's fine, at least he knows Percy's name, maybe I can use it to my advantage." I shrugged.
"I had a brother." Thalia said suddenly.
"What?"
"I had a little brother," she had a soft smile on her face.
"What happened to him?" I asked.
"One day, my mom took us to a park and she told me to get a picnic basket, the next thing I knew he was dead."
I sucked in a breath.
"How old was he?" I asked.
"2, he was two years old. Not even a week before, I had caught him trying to eat a stapler." Thalia had a sad smile on her face, "He was the only reason I hadn't run away and when he was gone, I had nothing holding me back."
"I understand the feeling." I whispered.
"How could you? Your brother is alive." she said miserably.
"I was abused from when I was 3 to when I was 7 by my step-father. When I was seven he sent me to a military boarding school in California. I haven't been back to New York until now." I told her.
"Wha-ho-why?" Thalia couldn't decide what to ask.
"If Percy hadn't been there too I would have run away. But, then Percy would have gotten abused. I couldn't let that happen so I stayed. I also figured Percy would never leave our mom." I layed down on my back and looked at the night sky.
"I'm sorry, I should have figured something out when I saw your leg." Thalia said, laying down beside me.
"Yeah, I'm a cripple because of my step father. He broke my bones and they never healed properly, leaving me with a wonky leg. When I went to military school my leg always hurt so bad during running exercises and I fell on my face more than once. After about a month I trained myself to run straight, keep my ADHD under control and to not fall over. Soon the pain was the only problem and I had been self-taught on how to ignore that." I felt a tear slip down my face into the grass beside me.
"So wait, when you walk, your leg hurts?" Thalia asked.
"Mhmm"
"Wow, I never would have guessed."
"This is a dream. Of course you wouldn't have guessed. It doesn't hurt here." I said.
At that moment I realised, I have never shared any of this with anyone before. I think I'm lesbian. And have a crush on a girl in a tree- wow, that's messed up.
"I guess that is a plus, I'm surprised you don't just always stay asleep," Thalia said.
"That's not how the world works. Sorry though."
"Well, the sky is pretty. Let's enjoy it." Thalia said, we laid there, looking up at the sky.
"How about I make a proposal-" I started but I was interrupted.
"No, I will not marry you," Thalia said.
"Ha ha, I was going to say; how about we celebrate today every year. I mean, you may be a tree but that just means you have less to celebrate." I suggested.
"What is the day?" asked Thalia
"June 23, 2006"
"2 days after the solstice, I like it. So, you and Luke?" Thalia asked.
"Oh my gods, what?" I asked, getting up on my elbow and looking at her.
"I saw y'all talking earlier," she wiggled her eyebrows.
"Oh my gods no, that is gross!" I scoffed.
After that we just lay there in silence, looking up at the stars. When I stopped looking at the sky it was early morning. I may have forgotten to wake up except for the fact that I saw Percy talking to Luke…
"Oh shoot, Thalia I gotta go."
"Why? Cause you don't want your brother hogging Luke?" she asked.
"No, because I am worried about what Luke will do to my brother." I said before I faded away. I leapt from my bed and ran into the woods as fast as I could but when I got there I was too late.
"A golden age is coming, and you won't be a part of it," Luke said looking at my brother. Ah crap, is that a pit scorpion?
Luke created this strange black portal thing. Before he could leave I ran up and punched him in the nose, resulting in a satisfying crack as he stumbled into his portal. As he disappeared I watched as if in slow motion the pit scorpion stuck Percy in the hand.
Percy howled.
I ran over and kicked the scorpion off his hand, "Come on Percy, stay with me," I said, draping his arm over my shoulder and dragging him to camp.
""Yo-you were r-right," Percy muttered.
I kept dragging him along, this wasn't a victory I feel satisfaction in.
"Come on, Percy, we can do this." I told him.
I was still dragging him.
The spot on his hand looks like a tracker jacker sting from the hunger games(the only book I managed to read before I gave up.)
When we were finally through the woods we could see the big house but I didn't think we were going to make it.
All of a sudden I feel Percy being lifted from my arms and I turn around to see some nymphs carrying him. I jogged behind them as they raced to the big house.
When we got him to the infirmary the leader of the Apollo cabin, Lee Fletcher, is in there and he gapes at my brother in shock.
"What the Hades did he do to his hand?" Lee gestured wildly at the large bump.
"He didn't do it. It was a pit scorpion sent by Luke." I responded.
"Why would-"
"Pit scorpion venom! He has less than a minute to live and you are arguing with me over why Luke would attack my brother!"
"I need ambrosia, nectar and water!" Lee said.
"Where do I get the god food?" I asked.
"Cabinet to my left."
I opened the cabinet to see all sorts of things from bandages to tape, to plaster, and in the very back there was a bottle of ambrosia and a baggie of nectar.
"I also need a rag!" Lee said.
I grabbed a rag and set them on the table by Percy's bed before rushing to the corner where there were some buckets of water.
When I came back Percy already had some color back to his skin.
"I need you to grind the ambrosia as fine as possible." Lee said.
"HOW?"
"I don't know, use a sword or something!"
I pulled out my dagger and started smashing the ambrosia to crumbs with the flat of my blade. When I tossed the bag to Lee he poured some of it into Percy's mouth and some of it where the Scorpion stung him.
Then he soaked the towel in necar and rubbed the sting. After the rag was relatively dry he dipped it into the bucket of water and continued rubbing the sting.
After about 30 minutes of alternating between water and nectar the sting was now just a tiny scar in Percy's hand and the color had come back to his face.
"Now, he just needs rest." Lee said.
"Tell me when he wakes up." I replied before leaving the infirmary.
I went to the arena and started throwing my dagger. It has a lot of satisfaction watching a dummy's head get chopped off. I grabbed my dagger and attacked the dummy. It wasn't the same as attacking Ares, and it got straw all over me, but it was ok.
After a little while I stopped killing all the dummies and stepped back to see a pile of straw, burlap sack, and wood frames. I worked on putting it back together but I was missing a necessary tool, duct tape.
So, Annabeth found me trying to put the dummies back together.
"Did he do it?"
"Do what?" I asked, not looking at her.
"Luke, did he hurt Percy?" Annabeth asked.
"He summoned a pit scorpion from the depths of tartarus. Yes, it was Luke." I responded.
"Are you sure it wasn't a prank?" Annabeth sounded almost earnest to find a way to make Luke not a traitor.
I got up and gave her a hug, "I'm sorry Annabeth, but this was not a prank."
The way her arms tightened around me showed me she understands.
I pulled back finally and said, "You wanna go check on Percy?"
As I said it heer face seemed to go up in flames and I laughed in shock, "What?" Annabeth snapped.
"You… have a crush… on my…. Brother!" I said between laughs.
Annabeth's face just got more red as she said, "I do not!"
I let out a laugh and said, "I won't tell him!" with my hands above my head.
Annabeth's face shifted from about-to-kill-you to are-you-serious-right-now, "How can I trust you?"
"I swear under the river styx that I won't tell Percy you have a crush on him unless you tell me I can." I swore.
Annabeth nodded when the thunder sealed the deal.
"So… we gonna go see him or not?" I asked.
