At the cabin, both Javier and Araceli were lying on the bed. Having just finished the act, the male held on to his lover tightly. His nostrils inhaled the subtle yet pleasant scent of her perfume. If he recalled correctly, he bought her that perfume a couple of months ago. Easily a great buy as he couldn't get enough of that scent. The peaceful silence was ruptured when Araceli rotated her body until she could look him in the eyes. Despite the darkness, he could make out a smile on her lips while she playfully ran her fingers through his hair. He allowed this to go on for a couple of seconds before his desires started to take control again.

The two locked lips again and for what seemed to be a continuation of their affair was actually the setting that the young female was waiting for. She knew he was satisfied so what better opportunity than now to ask for the money. To his displeasure, she pulled back from their kiss. "So…"

Javier frowned momentarily by her sudden movement. His brows furrowed slightly while his sight remained focused on her. All it took was a moment longer for him to realize what was going on. He rolled his eyes before moving back a bit so there could be some space between them. "Of course we're having this conversation now."

A giggle escaped the female's lips as she reached out for his arm. "You know you can just say 'yes' and be done with it."

"How much do you want?"

"Not much," she answered. "I'm sure forty-one thousand pesos will be more than enough."

Hearing the amount brought a great deal of amusement to him. He pulled his arm away and turned to the ceiling. "Have you lost your mind…?" he asked in between laughter. "In what world would I just give you that much money?"

Araceli remained silent for a moment. She was really hoping that this past hour would have been enough persuasion for him to give in to her wants. Looks like she was going to have to be a little more insistent. She moved closer and gently caressed her lips with his. "In what world…? How about one where the two of us are spending an entire day in Puerto Escondido. In that world, I would be wearing those stilettos with the red dress you love so much. Just imagine those envious looks that will be surrounding us.

Javier didn't take his eyes off of her for one moment. His mind picturing the very image she just described. He let out a chuckle as he motioned his head toward his belongings. "Go get my checkbook."

Araceli could not have had a wider smile as she jumped out of the bed and ran to his stuff. This was too easy.

Outside, a car was slowly becoming visible from the driveway. Nearing the cabin, Cristina dimmed her headlights and continued forward. She opted to park a couple of yards away to avoid making any unnecessary noises. Once her engine was off, she turned to the backseat where her daughter was sound asleep. "Don't worry sweetie, mommy will be back in a moment." She hated having to bring the infant along but nobody was answering her calls. It became clear that if she wanted answers tonight then there wasn't any other choice but to bring her along. She stepped out of the vehicle and walked towards the cabin. With every few steps taken, she turned back to the car and assured herself that Valeria was safe.

A cool wind blew through the woods causing every tree to sway slightly. The light of the moon just barely came through the dozens of branches above. Sounds of crickets chirping all around, accompanied by the crunching of leaves from her every movement. While at home, this night felt peaceful and precious. Here in the wilderness, all she felt was an ominous presence. Her heart missed a beat or two the moment she spotted Javier's car parked a couple of feet away. Seeing that it was the only one there further increased her suspicions. Reaching the front door, she realized there wasn't any light coming from inside. Because of this, she decided to risk it and check if the door was unlocked. With a deep breath, she slowly turned the knob and pushed. Had this been any other scenario she might have laughed at her luck when the door opened slightly. Hoping that the creaking noise would not be heard by anyone, she pushed the door further until finally able to enter.

Darkness… not even a hint of light. Cristina proceeded cautiously. She couldn't risk making a wrong move at this stage. Who knows how her husband or anyone else inside would react if they heard an intruder?

Silence… Only the crickets outside were heard. A small part of her still wanted to believe that this was a misunderstanding. Unfortunately, all the signs pointed to a different outcome.

Eerie… Her heart pounding harder and harder. A feeling of nauseous building up. Every part of her wanted to run out the door and get as far away from this cabin as possible. Was the possibility of her happiness falling apart really worth this?

Taking the quietness into consideration, Cristina decided to turn on the flashlight of her phone to its lowest setting and used it for illumination. She searched around but nothing really stood out at first. The place was quite empty actually. There was a bottle of wine on top of a counter next to what looked to be the kitchen. She then noticed a small table near the corner of the cabin. A chill ran down her spine the moment she saw an elegant white purse placed in one of the chairs. Choking up from the realization, she frantically turned her light in every direction. Seeing two doors across from her, one closed and the other halfway opened. Cristina stormed to the one on the left. Without a second thought, she opened it and felt for the light switch.

"Javier!" she screamed at the top of her lungs. The lights turned on revealing the startled lovers in the bed.

"Cristina…?!" questioned Javier. He could only look at his wife in disbelief as she stood there distressed. "What are you doing here?"

Cristina couldn't believe her eyes when she registered who was next to her husband. "Ara…Araceli…?"

Araceli was completely horrified upon seeing her lover's wife. "C-Cri…I…It's…Pl." She immediately grabbed the sheets and covered herself.

Feeling an immense wave of dizziness, the older female was unable to keep her balance and collapsed to her knees. "Why?" she cried. "How…how could… the both of you do this?"

Seeing his wife wailing, Javier got up from the bed and tried to get closer to her.

In retaliation, Cristina slid further away from him before mustering enough strength to get up. "Stay away from me!" she demanded. Without turning her eyes away from him, she reached out for an object to grab but was unsuccessful. "Don't you dare come closer!"

"Honey, I'm begging you. Calm down and let's talk."

Trembling uncontrollably, Cristina turned to Araceli who was still covering herself in shame. Tears continued to stream down her reddened eyes. "How could you…do this to me…? I loved you like a sister."

"I-I…Cris…" no matter how hard she tried, the younger female just couldn't speak a single word.

With his wife in such terrible shape, Javier decided to ignore her words and once again tried to walk towards her. "Honey, please. You're going to get sick."

Realizing he was at arm's reach now, Cristina let out all her anger and swung in his direction. "I said stay away!"

He let out a painful groan as his wife managed to scratch him in and around the eye.

"Cristina stop!" pleaded Araceli. She was about to get up but quickly remembered her own state.

Cristina turned back to the younger female. A look overwhelmed with grief. A look that only broke Araceli's heart even more. "I will never… ever forgive you for this." Not interested in waiting for her husband to recover, she ran out of the cabin and into her car.

With the older female gone, Araceli quickly got out of the bed and checked on the male. She kneeled next to him and noticed the scratch marks under his eye. "Javier…"

"I'm fine," he responded. He got up and began grabbing his belongings. "Hurry up and put your clothes on. We have to stop her."

Araceli did what she was told. She had no idea what was going to happen after tonight but if everyone found out about the affair, her life would be over.

Cristina sped through the granite road. All she wanted to do was go home and find comfort in her pillow. Behind her, the now awoken infant could only scream in discomfort. "Valeria, please be quiet…" she pleaded. To her frustration, she noticed a car catching up to her. "Leave me alone!" she screamed knowing that it was very likely to be her husband.

On the other car, Araceli's heart was racing rapidly as she held on to the door handle. "Please slow down," she begged. Words couldn't describe how terrified she was at the moment. They were heading towards some dangerously curved roads and she feared for her life.

"Shut up!" yelled Javier. The desperation was driving him crazy. If Cristina reached the village in these circumstances, everybody would be awakened and the situation would get worse. "Keep trying to call her."

For the third time, the familiar ring tone sounded in her car. The screen showed an image of her husband with the options 'answer,' and 'ignore.' She slammed her palm against the wheel before tapping 'ignore.' She wanted nothing to do with them anymore. It broke her heart in every way to know that her husband and childhood friend destroyed her trust in the most despicable of ways. Her body ached so much from all the trembling and tears. The screams from Valeria behind her only served to worsen her headache. The road began to get much more complicated to navigate. The turns were getting narrower but the female refused to reduce her speed. Because there weren't any cars coming from the other direction. The two drivers would use both lanes to make the turns. Much to her relief, the village was a few minutes away. At that moment, the ringtone again started to sound. Frustrated, the female turned to the screen and pressed 'ignore.' When her attention went back to the road, her entire being panicked when she realized that she was heading off the road. She immediately slammed the brakes and jerked the wheel.

Javier and Araceli could only watch in horror as Cristina lost control of the car and it began flipping violently off the road and onto a downwards slope.

"No no no no," cried the male. His whole life was crumbling more and more. He immediately stopped the car and stepped out of it. Without hesitation, he ran to where the car landed.

Araceli too got out and followed the male. She watched as Javier moved down the slope and decided to stay on the top. To say the car was damaged is an understatement. The car was flipped upside down on top of what looked to be a small uprooted tree. Tears just couldn't stop flowing down her cheeks as she was paralyzed with fear.

"Cristina...? Say something please..." Even though the car was in front of him, Javier was unable to see anything inside. He quickly looked up to Araceli and demanded a light. Seeing a lack of movement from the female only angered him to a boiling point. "Araceli!"

Araceli jumped in shock before registering his request. Remembering that she left his phone in the car, she quickly pulled out her phone and turned on the light. With shaky hands, she tossed the device to him.

Javier caught the phone and turned the light towards the inside of the car.

The sound of a bone-chilling wail from him told Araceli all she needed to know. The young female cried in immense grief. Cristina, the incredible woman whom she knew for most of her childhood was now gone… and she was at fault.
