not gonna a lie, I'm not a super genius, but I sort of know how networking works. I'm kinda BSing my way through the supercomputer stuff.
The excitement soared once everyone had sat down at the table for breakfast. Last night the programmers sent out a text to the group. They said that they had big news regarding two things. As to what they were, they would not reveal until they were all together at breakfast.
"So, what are the two things?" Diana's voice was as chipper as ever. She seemed to be happier ever since she left those other girls. "You really gave us no hints as to what either is, just that it could be a game changer," she quoted the text at the end.
"We're pretty sure that we can work the supercomputer remotely, in case of a situation where neither of us can get to the factory," Natasha smirked, and the other Sam hasn't told me yet," he smiled excitedly, with a hint of nervousness that he was trying to hide.
"I'll just start slow. There are a lot of variables in so we're not one hundred percent sure, we need to test it sending complex commands while wirelessly connected to the supercomputer. Even for me and I've specialized in wireless connections the computer…" the other genius trailed off. Realizing that the only person who would understand would be the person who worked on it with him.
"We were able to look at most of the information that gets displayed and we managed to virtualize a vehicle, or at least we think we did, it's hard to be sure when no one's on Lyoko to verify," he cut to the chase. And was greeted mostly with excitement, but there was some hesitation from Damian and Rebecca, the more cautious and or creative warriors.
"We know it can fail so we'll do it in the safest way possible," he started, lessening some worry. "But now I need to tell you the other thing," he looked nervously at his friends, "I've got something I need to ask you guys. I'm changing my name, Sam's too close to my dead name I want something different. I want to be called Artemis."
"Where'd you come up with that name, not saying that there's anything wrong with it but why?" Ruby questioned.
"A few reasons, in Greek mythology she was the goddess of the hunt and was known to use a bow and arrows like I do in Lyoko. Even though she was a girl in the myths it's more of a boy's name. I also admire the intellect of Artimus fowl in the books," Artemis looked around at his friends for their responses.
"Artemis, Artemis, Artemis," Rebecca echoed. "I will now only call you Artemis," her voice was full of determination as she grabbed his hand and placed a kiss on it. Even though the whole group knew they were dating, she still didn't feel comfortable with public displays of affection, so this was a big deal, but not something to point out or she'd get really embarrassed and kind of shut down.
"That name sounds cool, I'll use it, Artemis," Ruby smiled. Damian nodded in agreement.
"Yeah! we're your friends of course I'll use your name, silly," the cheerful response came from Diana.
"It's who you are so, I'll use it, is this what's been keeping you up the past few nights?"
"Yeah I just chose the name last night," he nodded as tears of joy started forming in the eyes of the newly named boy. He wiped them away before they could form. Not wanting to get too emotional. "What will the adults think though," Rebbeca mused, shattering his moment of bliss.
He took a deep breath, before answering. "I'll tell 'em later, it's not like they don't know I'm trans," he sighed, then changed the topic to the other advancement. "So, for the Lyoko part after school Natasha will stay on school grounds and connect to Lyoko while the rest of us go to the factory, there I'll vertulize someone and Natasha will vertulize their vehicle, to make sure it went through right, if it did, she'll send down someone. So, who wants to go we need two people, one to go the normal way and if things go well, remotely."
"I'll go for the first thing!" Diana jumped at the opportunity, she still feels like she needs to prove herself as a warrior after she stopped spending so much time with her "friends," even though it was weeks later.
Knowing that there was a small risk to this. Ruby volunteered. As usual, putting the safety of her friends above her own.
"So, Diana, what sector do you want to go to?"
After a moment of thought, she selected the forest sector. br
Everyone was nervous to some degree as they went through the day, especially Ruby, even though she would deny it. Eventually, school ended, and as planned, Natasha went to her dorm to set up the connection. While it could work in theory with just a laptop to a limited degree, a full supercomputer setup also required a tablet and phone. As she did this, everyone else went to the factory. There Artimus, took the chair as Diana went down to the scanners. Everyone else hung around the supercomputer, they put Natasha on speakerphone, the link to her phone allowed her to make calls.
"Diana is on Lyoko," he told her.
"I see her on my end. I'm sending in the over cloud now."
On Lyoko
the warrior gracefully landed in the forest sector, as requested.
"I'm here!" she called out to the trees.
"I hear you, Natasha's sending in your ride."
The factory
"Diana is on Lyoko," he told her.
"I see her on my end I'm sending in the over cloud now."
"I'm locked out," she told Artemis, "I had control last night any ideas?"
"I think that Lyoko is only allowed one admin at a time, well possibly two if you count X.A.N.A., whose admin abilities seem to come from the computer itself even more so than the supercomputer terminal," he spoke fingers running over the keys. "So, we can only have one terminal in control of Lyoko at once, which is why it worked yesterday when no one was on the supercomputer. I'm sending an encoded wireless access to your IP address, try accessing the Lyoko frequencies again, its a basic cipher you'll be able to decode it with out any problems," the boy informed her as he finished typing before sitting back in the chair. No one commented as no one else fully knew what he had said.
"Ok I'm in," Natasha voiced over the phone, "sending the overcloud now! We'll have to come up with a more complex way of encoding it for next time."
On Lyoko
"I see it!" she called out, as she ran to the overcloud, stepping onto it to make sure it was really there and worked, just as if it would have had it been virtualized from the supercomputer. "There's nothing wrong with the cloud!" she happily reported.
"Nice," Artimus' disembodied voice called out, ready for the real test to begin.
The factory
Artemis swiveled the chair to face Ruby. "You ready?" he asked her.
"I'm ready let's do it," voice full of determination as she walked to the elevator.
"I see Ruby in the scanners should I send her in?" called Natasha, seeing the avatar on her computer.
"Yeah, she's ready," he responded. br
On Lyoko
"Natasha's sending Ruby," a disembodied voice called out.
"Where is she?" she asked when there was no immediate appearance.
"I sent her in," Natasha's panicked voice could be heard in Lyoko and on speakerphone.
"There she is!" cried ribbon dancer before further panic could ensue.
"Ruby, can you hear me? The virtualization took longer than normal. Is everything ok?"
"Yeah, I'm here!" she called out, giving herself a once over, "nothing seems wrong."
"Just ran a scan you seem to be good," the boy's voice resonated.
"Are you ready for Natasha to bring you in?" Artemis asked.
"Yeah, what's the worst thing that could happen?" Ruby smirked.
"Well, for one you could-" Natasha's voice started but she was cut off by her coding buddy.
"-I don't think you should answer that..."
"I'll bring Ruby in first," Natasha called.
The fighter braced herself for any problems that could come next.
Back at the factory
As soon as the code Earth was activated, the three that remained in the factory went down to the scanners to make sure Ruby came out fine, Natasha was there on video chat. It took a little longer, but luckily nothing else went wrong, and she appeared in a scanner, for the most part, safe and sound, just disoriented and very dizzy, compared to what could have happened this was a fairly decent outcome.
"I think this should only be used in emergencies," Damian suggested, and everyone agreed.
"I'll regain control of the supercomputer and bring in Diana. Hear that, Natasha?" Artemis announced as he entered the elevator, Rebecca following, while Damian opted to wait for his sister. "It may take a minute," he told Damian as the doors closed and he heard the other coder tell Diana what was happening. "I should be able to take back control by myself, I'm hardwired to Lyoko, so don't disconnect yet," he told her through the phone. He heard her relay the information to Diana, telling her it may take a bit before she could come home.
"That's a good idea that might be something we'll need to do."
As Damian sat down, a tower activated in the ice sector, Rebbeca went back down to tell him. While this took place Natasha told Diana, who was still in Lyoko about the tower, and where the way tower was so she could get to the right sector.
"This is that emergency situation, X.A.N.A. attacked, and Artemis didn't switch controls," she announced, sliding down the latter and walking to a scanner.
"I'm going to need to virtualize all of them from here, aren't I?" He could hear the concern over the phone.
"Yup," he responded.
"Rebecca and Damian are in the scanners I'll vertulize them no-" she stopped talking as the tower deactivated itself. "Did you see that or is something wrong with the connection because here the tower just deactivated."
"No, it deactivated here too..." he mused and shrugged it off, if something happens later, they'd deal with it later.
"Diana, for some reason the tower isn't active anymore, wait for S-Artemis to bring you in," Natasha talked into the Lyoko mic.
Already using his phone to talk to the other coder, he used the supercomputer he called his girlfriend to tell everyone what happened.
The three confused warriors, Ruby still a little out of it joined Artemis at the supercomputer. "I think I'm in control," he spoke after a moment. Then typed some more. "Diana, I'm going to try to send you the overcart, tell me if it appears"
"It's here!" She announced to the two people that could hear her.
"I'm bringing you in," he typed in code Earth, bringing her back safe and sound.
"Will it always take that long to switch control?" Rebecca asked as they left the factory.
"Nah, I know what now and I'll show Natasha, plus it should reconnect if she disconnected but I wasn't one hundred percent sure and if it didn't work, we could be completely locked out of Lyoko," he explained as if it was obvious.
