Encounters of the Vent Kind
A/N: Two chapters in two days? Maybe! I feel like the story has finally come back to me some. At this rate Melancholy may even be updated but I cannot promise any updates on that front as of right now. As per usual I own no one, though I really wish this version of Bon was something I could claim. Enjoy!
Bon listened carefully as he heard something move around the vents in the location he was now at. Looking at the small monitor he looked at the tasks that needed to be done. The list seemed simple enough. It was broken down into four categories: Order Supplies, Advertising, Maintenance, and Equipment. Bon noticed warning signs on three of the four lists and clicked them seeing more sub-menus come up. He listened as the audio explanation went on about how to run the office. Use one of these three options to keep yourself safe. Turn of your terminal and ventilation if needed. Bon tried to drown it all out, he knew what he was getting into. Looking at the layout of the floor he was on, strategies of survival were already starting to take place. Yet, that annoying voice kept breaking his focus. Rolling his eyes, he started ordering supplies and noticed that the process felt like it was taking forever. Helpy could see the frustration in the bot's eyes and looked around, "Just so you know this terminal and the ventilation create a lot of noise it's bound to draw attention…. though I guess given what you are…that doesn't matter does it?"
"This is taking forever" Bon sighed and noticed that he had finally finished ordering cups of all things, "Is there any way to make this go faster?"
Helpy nodded, "You can upgrade the equipment in here, but it comes out of your own pocket. and since you spent all your money on those mediocre bots, you're in the red my good sir!"
Bon sighed, "Of course I am…maybe Freddy was right, and I can't balance a budget."
"But you did earn money from that salvage job!" Helpy reminded the bot and shivered some, "It feels like someone's close."
Bon closed his eyes and listened carefully to what was going on around him, "So this is where they put him…Freddy it's not time for the party yet!"
"A-A-Aww y-you promised!" Freddy could be heard in the vents, "Where are you!? I want to give you a performance!"
Bon looked at the terminal and then at the red eye looking back in him at the vent, "Don't you even think it."
"Think what?" Freddy asked twitching.
Bon's eyes narrowed slightly as he clicked on the next item to order, plates of all things, "Fine we're doing this aren't we?"
"D-D-Doing what?" Freddy asked feigning innocence.
Bon kept his eyes focused on the mutilated amalgamation of bots, "I know the moment I take my eyes off you you're going to try and kill me."
"Who me!? Why never!" Freddy tried to act friendly, "You're one of us after all!"
Helpy was starting to panic, "Bon do something!"
Freddy laughed some, "hehe…hahaha! You know you can't look away or it's game over! Hey…uhh what are you doing with that flashlight!?"
Bon had a wry smirk, "I wonder if that glitch carried over to your models."
"Oww cut that out!" Freddy hissed as the light was flashed in his eye.
Bon shook his head, "Then move back a room!"
"No way!" Freddy retorted and tried reaching into the office only to have the light shined at him again, "At least pay attention to me!"
Bon quickly looked at his list and clicked on napkins to order them, "Okay note to self, upgrade the internet connection. Jeez this is slower than the springlock models."
"Are you completely ignoring the bot that wants your head!?" Helpy asked in a full-blown panic.
Bon blinked as he watched Molten Freddy try to crawl into his "office", once again he flashed the light at the bot, "No. Back to your room!"
"It's dark in there!" Molten Freddy whined.
Bon sighed, "And you think it isn't in he-ah I can see them now…. the souls that are bound to you."
"Y-Y-You ca-a-an see them?" Molten Freddy asked, his hostility going down, "W-W-We…di-i-i-idn't want to h-h-u-u-urt them."
Bon looked at the four children's spirits and had a sad smile, "It'll be over soon I promise. I believe that you didn't Freddy, I believe that none of you wanted to. Or at least I really want to I don't know how Afton designed you…any of you."
"He built us to lure children away and murder them" Ballora's voice spoke, "When we became aware of what we were designed to do we grew appalled…as appalled as our programing would allow. We wore their skin to try and escape…but Baby…they pushed too hard. She manipulated all of us."
"Which is why she had to go" Funtime Foxy spoke.
Molten Freddy nodded, "I d-d-don't know what you n-need of us…b-but we'll d-do our best…"
Bon nodded and watched as the tangled bear left back into the darkness, "Why do I fear that when they appear he will be hostile…"
"What was that all about!?" Helpy demanded as he pressed another button causing the printer to whine, "Hey!"
Bon looked towards Helpy and shook his head, "I believe that is the last time where he won't try to kill us. The children's souls are becoming angry and unstable."
"What are you even talking about?!" Helpy demanded, "I didn't see anything!"
Bon sighed and started to print out new flyers, "I'm envious that means you haven't died before. I have, I could see the souls of those trapped children…I can only hope that whatever happens here will give them peace."
"How many where there?" Helpy asked curious.
Bon listened to the printer whine as it spit out more flyers, "There were four…I am sure Baby is haunted as well…and I'm almost certain she'll appear here as we-Freddy I swear to whatever higher power you prefer I will come out there and kick your wired ass myself!"
"N-N-No need!" Freddy backed off again, "Hmph we'll get him yet!"
Bon sighed and listened carefully to ensure that Molten Freddy wasn't trying to get close again. Turning back to the terminal he continued the tasks that were required of him. Getting through the print options he returned to ordering more supplies. Looking at the other options he placed the audio lure to another part of the building and sighed hearing Freddy move about the vents. His enhanced hearing was working towards his advantage he would have to admit that much. Once he got to ordering pizza kits he had a faint smile of better times, "Premade kits huh…back in our old building we made everything from scratch. Chica and Toy Chica would be in there all morning help make the dough…Bonnie too after what happened to him..."
Helpy looked puzzled, "What happened to Bonnie?"
"He became trapped in a prototype humanoid body…it started to fail, and we couldn't remove his chip from it" Bon admitted and watched as the order still continued to try and process, "We took a cross country trip together…but in the end…. we saved him but his memories of me…"
"Boo!" Molten Freddy lunched into the office only to phase through Bon's shadow form, "Hey no fair!"
Bon closed his eyes and looked to the children's souls who were trapped, "There are easier ways to get my attention than this…. though I suppose I shouldn't be surprised…you are children after all."
"Y-You can really see us!?" the spirit of a young boy cried.
Bon nodded, "I can see all four of you…. four innocent souls that were taken too soon and trapped in a prison worse than those who came before you…I promise though I will find a way to set all of you free… You're taking control of them aren't you? Suppressing their urge to try and kill?"
"We don't want them to hurt you too!" the spirit of a young girl cried.
Another nodded, "You can see us, that means you can help us! We can't keep them contained for long…once we lose, they will try and hurt you until you can set us free!"
Bon nodded, "I can live with that…I'm so used to being the one hunting that it's surreal to be the hunted. I promise though I will find a way to set you free and let you find the peace you deserve…may I ask your names?"
"I'm Gabriel" one of the boy spirts spoke.
Another one stepped forward, "I'm Fritz."
"Jeremy" another replied.
The little girl hid behind Gabriel, "I-I'm Suzie!"
"Gabriel, Fritz, Jeremy and Suzie" Bon pointed to each spirt and spoke their name, "My name is Bon. I promise one way or another I'll find a way to free you…just like the others."
"Other's?" Fritz asked.
Bon nodded, "You were not the only ones Afton has killed."
"T-They're waking up!" Suzie looked panicked.
Gabriel looked at Bon, "You promise you'll free us!?"
Bon nodded, "cross my non-existent heart and hope to die."
Bon watched as the children seemed to vanish as Molten Freddy stared to stir once more. Bon quickly activated an audio lure on the other part of the building and watched as the mangled mess of a bear escaped his sight. Looking back at his terminal he noticed all that was left was Maintenance duties. Listening carefully, he went through the list of tasks that needed to be done. The pizza ovens, clean. The toilets, unclogged. Burnt out lightbulbs? Not on his watch. Looking through the terminal one last time Bon was satisfied that everything was done and looked to Helpy, "Shall we leave now?"
"Y-Yes!" Helpy climbed into Bon's arm as he slid out of the tight vent office, "You are absolutely insane! Unhinged even! You could have been killed tonight and it would have been for nothing!"
"Not entirely" Bon spoke as he prepared to go look in the back of the building, "I know who is here now and maybe can find a way to free them."
Helpy frowned, "You can't free the damned though."
"The children aren't the damned" Bon spoke and stepped out into the back alleyway and felt a sense of relief that nothing was there, "But the monster who took them away too soon…. they are damned beyond redemption."
"Anything back here?" Helpy poked his head out of the doorway, "Empty…just like your thick skull!"
Bon looked around once more, "The fact that there isn't anything back here is concerning all on its own…Helpy be honest with me what's so special about Saturday?"
"Ah well ummm…." Helpy fidgeted some and looked towards Bon, "C-Can't say yet! Your employer said that stays with him and him only!"
Bon sighed, "More secrets then? Fine."
Helpy watched as Bon was getting ready to leave, "Please wait! Oh no I am going to get in so much trouble!"
"And that's my problem how?" Bon asked sounding annoyed as the phone started to ring.
Helpy could tell the humanoid bot was upset and tired, "Please answer it!"
Bon sighed knowing he couldn't turn his back away now and picked up the phone, "Hello?"
"You are proving to be more interesting than I first believed" a voice spoke, "Be at ease I am not your enemy. We are working towards the same goal after all. I need you to trust me to assist you in seeing this through."
Bon sighed, "If you want my trust, I at least need a name."
"Call me H" the man spoke, "Ensure that you check the back alleyway and salvage any animatronic that comes into our possession."
"Just like I salvaged Freddy and the four tormented souls?" Bon asked a shiver running down his spine.
H took a moment, "You can see them?"
"I am just like them" Bon spoke and looked up towards where he just was, "I don't know who you are, but I will continue to work with you to close this bloody chapter."
"Thank you, Toy Bonnie" H spoke and hung up.
Bon looked at the phone and felt a sense of dread as he hung up the phone, "Helpy…"
"Yes Bon?" Helpy looked worried that the former rabbit was going to be mad at him, but instead found himself in a hug, "B-Bon!?"
Bon closed his eyes and tried to calm himself, "Can I trust you to be there with me until the end?"
Helpy nodded, "I was designed to assist whoever took this franchise to end this nightmare. I'm worried though they never specified which Saturday! For all we know it could be this week! Or next!"
"We'll manage" Bon spoke in a soft voice, "I should return home for the night and make a few phone calls…. just in case."
"Just in case?" Helpy asked as Bon headed towards the building's exit, "You'll come back right!?"
Bon nodded, "I'll be back here at opening I promise."
Bon returned to his apartment and sighed feeling an odd sense of security. Setting down his keys he turned on the tv in the living room and shook his head as there was nothing good on. He continued to channel surf until he came across and old favorite show of Leo's. Bon stopped on the channel and closed his eye remembering Leo quite well. He was gone too soon, and Bon still believed that somehow the boy's spirt had decided to live on with them. Perhaps the same with Jeremy and Mike the more he thought about it. All three were gone too soon, all three of them where the closest humans that the bots had considered family. The fact that two children shared names that reminded him of them didn't help either. Opening his eyes he notice that there was something sitting in the middle of his living room, small plushies of Mari, Goldy, and a bot that did not look familiar to him in the slightest.
"Mari, where are you? Since you vanished Goldy has stopped functioning entirely. Did something call you away? Was losing our human family too much?" Bon asked as he picked up the plushies from the ground, "Is this a sign you're still out there?"
Bon had hoped for an answer but the only thing that answered was the deafening silence. Looking down at his cellphone he noticed that Freddy had called. As much as he wanted to call them back, he had to respect the ground rules that H had laid out for him. If keeping them away meant that no one else would be haunted or worse that was a price Bon was willing to pay. Setting the plushies down on the couch he decided to grab a quick shower before returning to the building. As he stepped away even his sensitive abilities couldn't have detected the faint essence of a soul placed in the plush creations, or the faint light of life that was hidden in them. In a way they were a sign that the puppet was still out there. They had searched long and hard to find the souls of their departed family. Of course, it was just like the children from before, they had given them gifts, and now they hoped to give them life. Before Bon returned to the living room as quickly as the plushies appeared they were gone. When Bon walked back into the living room, he noticed they were gone, "Okay maybe I'm more sleep deprived than I thought…ugh what time is i- ah crap I'm late!"
Without much of a second though Bon was right out the door again rushing towards the pizza place with a newfound sense of hope. If H could lure in every lose end perhaps there was still a chance to set things right. All he would have to do for the time being was survive being in the vents with Molten Freddy. It gave Bon the idea to try using his shadow form and see if that would help him. It wasn't like he could die anyways. Injured? Sure. Maimed? Probably. Killed? Not so much as far as the shadow was concerned. Rushing into the building he was ready for the start of the day until he noticed Helpy was holding up more catalogues, "Seriously?"
"You gotta invest in order to succeed!" Helpy grinned, "I marked some possibilities for you to look over! Also, we're being sued!"
"What do you mean we're being sued!?" Bon felt a strong headache already forming.
Nedd bear watched from the stage, "Poor guy…"
"And it's only Monday" Pigpatch shook his head.
-End.
