Overwhelmed by Memories
A/N: And so, it continues. I own no one except Leo, Spike and Wrench who will be making an appearance in this. Everyone else belongs to Scott Cawthon.
It was a stormy Saturday night in a quiet town on the eastern side of the country. A small town that was barely even on the map. The perfect place for a group of animatronics who posed as humans to settle down and make lives for themselves. The bots who chose this place to call home? Why none other than Chica, Bonn, Freddy Jr. and Freddy Fazbear himself. There was also the amnesia suffering Bonnie, who Freddy had taken into his care. One as a promise to Bon, and two to make sure nothing happened to his best friend. For months Freddy had been trying to help Bonnie recovery his memory. Despite his best efforts it seemed like Bonnie couldn't recall anything of his past. Or at least that's what Freddy believed. He may not have realized it, but Bonnie was picking up the pieces on his own.
Bonnie was running a few errands that night, he was feeling anxious lately. The other day something had struck him. He was helping Freddy do a bit of routine maintenance on Chica and it felt like something had come back. Like he had done this task over a million times before. Except, there was usually someone helping him.
The room was dark, silence consumed the place except for the gentle hum of the florescent light that hung over a workbench. Strewn about the bench were small gears and servos as well as a banged-up Crackers. That's right, there was that over rambunctious birthday party that had mistaken him for a pinata. The parrot was in rough shape, but he could be repaired. Picking up a screwdriver he started to work and reached for a part, "Augh…I could have sworn I left that out!"
"You mean this?" a voice asked.
Bonnie's gaze softened as a part was handed to him, "Thank you…are you off the stage for now?"
"Yeah" the voice replied, "You were supposed to be up there too you know!"
"I know I know" Bonnie sighed softly and continued to work on Crackers, "But Jeremy asked me to take care of this first. Hey since you're here can you lend me a hand?"
"Of course!" a bright blue rabbit replied with glee.
'Someone else used to help me when I made repairs' Bonnie thought to himself as he wondered through the store, "Ah what else did they need me to get…come on Bonnie think…"
Bonnie was lost in thought until he heard two siblings' quarrel. A young girl had her cheeks puffed out and she looked annoyed at her older brother, "You said you'd let me buy this time!"
"Maybe next time" the older brother mused and ruffled her hair, "Besides I don't get to spoil you that often!"
Bonnie felt a chill run down his spine as if he could recall a similar situation. He could have sworn he had that conversation with his little brother before. He could have sworn he had uttered those same words at some point to someone. Closing his eyes, he could almost recall what they looked like in their human form. That blue hair was a stark contrast to his purple hair. Bright green eyes that had seen more than enough happiness and suffering in equal measure. His friendly disposition hid their insecurities and anxieties, something he could relate to all too well. Looking back at the two siblings he had a faint smile, "We used to be that way, weren't we? You'd get upset when I spoiled you…it wasn't because I didn't think you couldn't afford it…no I just wanted to spoil you like an older brother should have…because I wanted to see you smile..."
"Are you starting to remember?" a voice asked causing Bonnie to turn around to face a certain red-haired man, "Foxy?"
Foxy grinned, "That's the first time you've actually remembered who I am! What else ye be remembering?"
"Not much other than that" Bonnie shook his head, "What are you doing here? Weren't you living out on a boat with your family? At least that's what Freddy has told me when I've asked."
Foxy crossed his arms, "We do take shore leave thank you. Besides, feels like there be a storm brewing. Not sure how much you remember but there's whispers of another Freddy's Pizzeria that opened out west."
"Freddy's?" Bonnie frowned and shook his head, "I need more than that it's not coming together."
Foxy placed a hand on Bonnie's shoulder, "It'll come back to ya. You were as stubborn and tenacious as they come! Nothing stopped you, not even the laws of physics! Ah I remember back in the old days when we'd be left on night roam. You'd teleport around the building as you pleased. "
Bonnie shook his head, "Me teleport? Yeah right! Just another one of your fantasy tales."
"Ye don't remember? Well, that's a shame. What have you remembered?" Foxy asked in a gentle tone.
Bonnie looked back at the two children he witnessed earlier, "I remember working on Crackers with someone. He seemed annoyed that I wasn't up on stage with him…and for some reason my hands were huge and purple? Then watching those two I remembered him. The boy with the blue hair, my little brother…"
Foxy's eyes widened, "You remembered him!? Bonnie that's great! A shame he isn't here to hear that but great none the less!"
"What do you mean he isn't here?" Bonnie asked raising an eyebrow.
Foxy jolted a little and rubbed the back of his head, "Ah look at the time I better get going! Later Bonnie!"
"Hey!" Bonnie huffed as Foxy ran towards the entrance of the store, "What did he mean by that…where is my little brother if he isn't here? Ugh I'm starting to get a headache.."
Shaking his head, he pulled out his phone as it started to ring. For some reason the ring screen looked different though. Instead of the usual picture of a guitar there was a large group of bots and humans. Three bears, two chickens, several foxes, children like animatronics, three humans, a puppet, a large purple rabbit, and a blue one who was obviously holding the phone. The look of joy and happiness looked so genuine. Bonnie was trying to figure out why everyone looked so familiar to him as he answered the phone, "Hello?"
"Bonnie are you alright? You're not home yet" Freddy sounded worried.
Bonnie sighed, "Sorry Freddy I guess time got away from me. Oh, I ran into Foxy at the store! I'm surprised I actually remembered him…"
"You did!? That's wonderful to hear! Have you been able to recall anything else?" Freddy asked sounding rather hopeful.
Bonnie frowned slightly as the news started to air on the tv's in the electronic department, "I wish that I could…I suppose I had a partial memory come back…Someone was helping me fix Crackers. They sounded really annoyed that I wasn't on the stage with them."
"Back in the old place there was hardly a bot you couldn't fix" Freddy mused, "Your brother would help you constantly."
Bonnie continued to watch the tv screens, "I still don't understand why I had four fingers and they were purple."
"Ah yes…that…" Freddy sounded worried, "When you come home, we can talk more about it. I am just relieved that you're remembering somethings!"
"I a-" Bonnie started until something came up on the TV screen. The news anchor tapped their papers against the counter as if to organize them better. Up on the left hand of the screen an icon appeared with the news title "Freddy and Friends are Back Again!"
The news anchor looked towards the camera with such confidence you could feel it through the screen, "I hope you are ready for Freddy Fazbear and his friends! That's right after a few years of being inactive Fazbear Entertainment through a cryptic online campaign has announced the opening of a new franchise location out west. This location is said to be top of the line and already opening its doors to new and old patrons alike. This is the first franchise location to be open since the last known Freddy Fazbear Pizzeria burned down three years ago. After a yearlong investigation the fire was determined to be arson. There was one death associated with the fire. For this new location though our very own Natalie Roan is there on scene. What can you tell us about the place Natalie?"
The camera feed switched to a young woman; Bonnie figured she was probably just out of college. Her dusty brown hair bounced as she talked, "Thank you Gladis! As you can see, I am currently standing in the new Freddy Fazbear Pizza Place. Though it is only the first day of operation the place is packed with people looking to enjoy a place where fantasy and fun come together. Though Freddy and his friends aren't up on stage, yet a new line of animatronics are being tested in this establishment." Natalie pointed to the bots behind her on stage performing, "We've asked Fazbear Entertainment for a statement regarding adding Freddy Fazbear, Bonnie, Chica, and Foxy the Pirate."
Bonnie's eyes trailed around the room that was on the TV and noticed that someone had joined the animatronics on stage. They had bright blue hair and appeared to be carrying an old guitar. It looked old and well used, perhaps even a bit big for the human to use comfortably. The human took a moment and took a microphone from a frog like animatronic, his green eyes showing happiness and joy, "Good afternoon, everyone! Thank you for coming to our grand opening celebration! Now I know a lot of you are wondering where Freddy and his friends are. Right now, they're still getting prepared to join us here. Once their stage is built, they'll be here to help my friends here entertain everyone!"
"Woo!" a person in the crowd cheered.
The human looked towards the bots on the stage, "Please allow me to introduce my friends here. Now he may not be able to pull Bonnie out of his hat, but he's no one trick magician please welcome, Orville the magical Elephant! He has dad jokes and stories for days, Mr. Hippo! He's Freddy's cousin from down south please welcome Nedd Bear! He's the top hog of the stage and his banjo has no equal, welcome Pigpatch! She's always hopping with joy and her voice is as sweet as nectar, please give a warm Fazbear welcome to Happy Frog!"
"Thank you for the warm introduction, Bon!" Nedd Bear spoke, "Now then is everyone ready?"
Pigpatch looked around, "Looks like we're in the frying pan now."
"That reminds me of a story about looking for a frying pan-" Mr. Hippo started.
Orvillle chuckled, "Another time my dear friend!"
"Alright everyone let's hop to it!" Happy chuckled, "What song are we singing first, Bon!?"
Bon had a faint smile as he strummed the strings of his guitar, "Well this was a personal favorite of mine and my brothers. We used to sing this one a lot together."
"Well let's hear it!" Nedd Bear encouraged.
Natalie looked towards the stage again, "Looks like they're about to perform! We'll see if we can get a quick clip!"
"My grandfather's clock was too large for the shelf, so it stood ninety years on the floor" Bon started as he strummed his guitar.
Bonnie's eyes widened, even though he was miles away he felt like he was right there on stage performing. The boy's voice stirred more memories he knew this song, "It was taller by half than the old man himself, though it weighed not a pennyweight more…"
Bonnie watched as the screen went back to the news studio, "Ngh…my head…no I can't…not here…"
"Bonnie!?" Freddy's voice rang with worry.
Everyone in the store watched as Bonnie appeared to collapse. Before anyone could react a man with red hair ran over and picked him up. Behind this man appeared to be his family. A strong looking woman with white hair in a side braid. Two children clung to her side worry showing in their features. Before security could stop him, he said he was family and that he was just coming back to check on him. Foxy kept Bonnie close wondering what had caused him to collapse so suddenly. Taking Bonnie's phone, he noticed that he was in a call with Freddy.
"Freddy ye be there!?" Foxy asked.
Freddy sounded surprised, "Foxy!? Thank heavens you're there where is Bonnie!?"
"Currently collapsed in me arms" Foxy spoke and looked down at the collapsed bot, "He just collapsed after a news segment. I just caught the tail end of it…Bon…Bon was on the tv singing."
"Bon!? On TV? Foxy, can you bring Bonnie home?" Freddy asked.
Foxy adjusted Bonnie in his arms, "Of course Freddy."
The former fox hung up the phone and looked down at the former rabbit in his arms. Bonnie's brows were furrowed, and he sounded like he was almost in pain? Feeling a slight shaking from the bot's body Foxy was worried that the body was failing.
"Take him home" Mangle spoke placing a hand on Foxy's arm, "I'll take care of his groceries with the kids"
Foxy nodded, "Aye I'll do that…what happened…what all did he see?"
"Hopefully he can tell you when he wakes up" Mangle spoke and turned to Faye and Morgan, "Alright you two let's go."
Faye nodded, "Be careful Papa!"
"We know you're not the greatest on land!" Morgan teased.
Foxy rolled his eyes, "Careful lad I may make you walk the plank. I'll see you at your uncles!"
Foxy rushed out of the store and hated the fact that the storm seemed to be getting worse. Looking down he could see that Bonnie still appeared to be in pain. He couldn't even imagine what was causing his friend so much distress. Barely avoiding a car, he bolted through the crosswalk and proceeded to ignore the blaring horn. As he rushed towards safety Bonnie found everything coming back. He wasn't who he thought he was. No, he wasn't a human, he was an animatronic in a human like body. At one point he was a 6-foot-tall animatronic rabbit who was haunted by a dead child. He had endured much, including losing his face and arm at another location. Yet, that location had introduced him to the toy models, to his little brother. That's right, his little brother, Toy Bonnie. The one who had shouldered so much, who had sacrificed themselves to save their friends. Who came back from the dead as not quite an animatronic but a shadow as well. Memories of their time together in different locations started to flood his mind. The last place they had called home, their human family as well. Leo, gone too soon, Mike as well. Jeremy, lost to the flames of someone who wanted to see them all burn. Then the three years where Bon took care of him, even though he forgot who he was. Despite not remembering him, Bon never let it bother him, or so he thought. Everything came back in an instant, but there was one memory that perhaps hurt the most.
"You don't have to leave if you don't wish to" Freddy spoke as Bon picked up his suitcase.
Bon shook his head, "Mari is missing and Goldy isn't functioning now. Something has to be behind this, and I want to find out what."
"Where will you even go?" Chica asked concerned.
Bon's voice was as gentle as ever, "I have a place waiting for me. It sounds cliché I'm sure, but it feels like something is calling me there."
"Please keep in touch" Freddy placed a hand on Bon's shoulder, "Don't worry about your brother he's in good hands here."
Bon nodded and approached Bonnie lightly hugging him, "I'll miss you, brother."
"I'm sorry who are you?" Bonnie asked looking confused.
Bon had that sad smile as he tried to mask his disappointment, "You forgot me again? I'm your little brother, silly! Ah well I better get going don't want to miss my flight!"
"Let us know when you land!" Chica called as Bon hurried towards the taxi parked outside of their house.
'Despite me not remembering anything…you stayed for as long as you could. Why did you leave though? Did it have to do with Mari? Was something really calling you…why can't I shake this feeling that something is wrong? That somehow, you're all alone facing something that you shouldn't be…though that never stopped you before now did it? You always tried to fix everyone's problems, put the spirits of the past to rest…' Bonnie thought to himself as he jolted from bed hearing the phone ring. He could hear Chica talking to someone as if not trying to wake anyone else. It was early Sunday morning from what he could gather. Bonnie got up and headed towards the kitchen just as Chica tried to reassure whoever called, "Nothing is going to happen. Just hold on one second someone wants to talk to you."
Chica handed the phone to Bonnie and gave a slight nod towards Bonnie. Bonnie nodded and placed the phone to his ear and felt a slight twinge of pain as he heard Bon's voice, "Your voice it sounds so familiar to me. Freddy has been trying to jog my memories. Sometimes I almost remember who-what I am."
"Do you remember me?" Bon asked his voice sounding pained yet laced with hope.
Before Bonnie could answer the call was cut, "Bon!?"
"Bonnie!? You…" Chica looked surprised as Bonnie looked at her tears threatening to fall, "You remember, don't you?"
Bonnie nodded and noticed that Freddy had come to check on him, "Freddy…where is…He?"
"Where is who Bonnie?" Freddy asked worried yet amazed that those magenta eyes seemed to be full of life again, "Bonnie?"
Bonnie looked to Freddy, "Where is my brother?"
"One thing at a time!" Freddy was shocked, "What do you remember?"
Bonnie closed his eyes, "I used to be a giant 6 foot rabbit. We were introduced during the time of Fredbear and Spring Bonnie. Later Chica and Foxy joined us. I was destroyed once during a fire and accidently killed someone at that time. We were then moved to the toys location where we met our toy counterparts. Bon found us and patched us up as he could. Then there was the missing children…he tried to stop them. Mari gave the children new lives by placing their souls in us. You made a promise to Bon to help the toys if they could escape being scrapped. Which they did-"
"Bonnie" Chica looked surprised and happy, "What else?"
Bonnie's voice was soft, "I remember everything, and I don't know how. My memory chip was damaged when we were on our way to get my body fixed. At times I would even struggle to remember my own brother who was there to keep me company…even though I was angry about it at first, but sure why wouldn't I be!? I was dying so to speak! Then there was the time I couldn't remember who anyone was. I just had to assume that what you said was true…I can't even imagine how much pain I put everyone through…Especially Bon…"
"Bonnie…your brother…he's out west. He's taken over a new Freddy Fazbear's. I think he's trying to figure out what's happened to Mari. Do you want me to go check on him?" Freddy asked placing a comforting had on Bonnie's shoulder.
"Please…" Bonnie noticed Chica was on the phone, "I need to know he's at least okay."
Freddy nodded, "Chica what are you doing?"
"He sounded scared when he called" Chica spoke, "I think it's time we got the family back together and get out there to help support him! You go check on him, I'll handle getting everyone here."
It was decided at that point that everyone needed to get back together. That they needed to get out west as fast as they could. Freddy was sure that Bon could handle himself, but if he had called and sounded scared. Perhaps he had bitten off more than he could chew. Or there was something going on that no one knew about yet. Until they could get there Bon would be on his own for the most part. Hearing Chica on the phone he turned to Bonnie and could see that look of determination in his eyes, "Say Bonnie, do you remember how to teleport?"
Bonnie looked up and nodded, "However I finally remembered how I managed to pull it off. I need to picture or know the place in order to get there."
"So can't help me there, can you?" Freddy frowned.
Bonnie shook his head, "Not this time Freddy. I may have caught a brief glimpse of the place on TV but that's still not enough. If you can get me pictures though-"
Freddy nodded and turned into a shadow, "May take me a few days to get there but I'll be back with pictures. I'll let Bon know you're doing okay. He should be relieved to know you're back to your old self."
"Safe travels" Bonnie spoke and watched as the shadow bear left, "Why can't I help but think he's in danger…"
If only he knew about the bots his brother would be meeting in due time. One tormented and twisted, a father longing for her father's attention, the girl who protected others and raised them up, and him…the nightmare that Bon had continued to chase, to try end.
