Cold
Eurydice was well acquainted with the cold, but it didn't make it any easier to pack up and leave once the wind changed. Though she couldn't see the Fates singing in her mind, she could hear them loud and clear, and with them came the cold and dark that had defined her life.
When the cold came on, no matter where or when, it was time to head to another town. Staying a step ahead of winter was nearly impossible, but she managed well enough as long as she kept moving, keeping the cold out of her bones and searching for fire and warmth.
Sometimes as she slept under the stars, shivering, Eurydice dreamed of a world where she could find a place and stay there even in winter, living long enough to form bonds. The piercing cold numbed her to such dreams eventually, and by the time she met Orpheus, she'd nearly forgotten them.
But it only took a song and a promise of spring to remind her that the cold wasn't all there was to life.
