AN: Hi everyone! Fred here! Storytime! Well, actually, its a pre-story storytime. So I started this story SEVEN YEARS AGO WHAT?! ...And then life happened, I grew up, graduated, all that good stuff. And then I reread the Percy Jackson books last summer and fell head over heels in love with these characters again. And now I'm back! But because I wrote this seven years ago, my writing style has completely changed from what it was when I was in middle school (ew). So I decided to update each of the chapters that I wrote forever ago, and now I may be continuing Olympian High...? And by "may be", I mean that I have a whole playlist of song ideas on my Spotify that I plan to use. YAY! So bear with me here (or is it bare? i think its bear), because updates have been a LONG time coming. But for those of you who got a notification for a story you followed seven years ago and decided to check it out, welcome back! Please read the new and improved and longer version of Olympian High! And for those of you who just clicked on this story and saw that it was created in 2013 and only has four chapters... PLEASE DON'T LEAVE! I promise, it will be worth it.
On that note, let the updated version of Olympian High begin!
It's cliche, I know, to start your story with an alarm clock.
But as mine rang, disturbing the silence of the brisk autumn morning, I couldn't help but think that this was the beginning of a brand new chapter of my story.
My name is Annabeth Chase. I'm 16 years old. I just moved to Manhattan from San Francisco because my dad got a job working as a history professor at Columbia. Apparently they needed a new head of their World War II department.
Today I was going to be starting my first day of my junior year at Olympian High School for Gifted Students.
Am I a gifted student? Something like that.
After throwing on a flannel and jeans, I grabbed my backpack and ran downstairs, where my dad and stepmom were sitting at the island in the center of the kitchen. My brothers, Matthew and Bobby, weren't awake yet since they didn't have to catch their bus for another hour. I sat down at the island beside my dad.
"Are you ready for your first day, Annabeth?" My stepmom asked, handing me a plate with a toasted waffle on it. My dad was fully absorbed in some history textbook, and barely noticed my arrival.
After thanking her for the waffle, I shrugged. "I'm as ready as I'll ever be. I did all of the summer work that was assigned, I have all of my books, pencils, and other stuff. It feels weird to be starting in October though. And on a Friday.""
"We've never had to worry about you when it comes to school," She said with a smile. "I know it feels weird, but at least you have the weekend to catch up on any work that they'll give you to make up, seeing as it is October."
"You're right," I said, with a roll of my eyes. "I'm just hoping it's not too much work. Though I doubt it will be hard."
Remember when I said I was a gifted student? I guess that's a bit of an understatement. I'm smart, like my dad and my biological mom. I'm especially gifted when it comes to architecture, I've already landed internships at well-known firms and I plan to study architecture at Olympian High.
"Thanks," I said with a smile, though I'm afraid it ended up looking more like a grimace.
She glanced at the clock, then ushered me outside, saying that I would miss my bus if I didn't hurry.
My bus stop was on my street. As I walked down the road, I nearly ran over another girl who was a few inches shorter than I. She cursed under her breath, but the scowl that she shot me softened when she didn't recognize me.
"You must be the new girl," she said, raising an eyebrow. She had spiky black hair, bright electric blue eyes, and a splash of freckles across her nose. She wore a leather jacket with jeans and a silver necklace with a lightning bolt on it.
"Yeah," I said nervously, reaching out a hand for her to shake. "I'm Annabeth. I'm a junior."
"Thalia Grace, I'm a senior." She said, then gestured to the two other teenagers at the bus stop as we approached it."This is Leo and Piper. They're sophomores."
The two other people turned around.
"This is Annabeth, guys," Thalia said.
The boy held out his hand for me to shake.
"Hey, I'm Leo Valdez," The Latino boy smirked impishly, and I felt the strange urge to take a step back. He had a gleam in his eye that made me nervous. Like he was the kind of kid who took things apart to see how they worked on the inside.
He fiddled with a few gears that he'd pulled out of his jacket pocket, and I knew that my assumption wasn't far from the truth.
The girl was frowning at Thalia instead of watching Leo and I. "Hey Thals, where's Jason?"
Leo shook his head. "Wow, Beauty Queen, rude. Ignoring the new girl and only thinking about your boyfriend."
"Shut up, Leo," The Native American girl rolled her multicolored eyes. "Sorry about that, Annabeth. I'm Piper McLean."
"Nice to meet you, Piper."
Thalia shrugged in response to Piper's question. "I haven't seen him. He probably had football."
Before Piper could respond, or I could ask who this 'Jason' guy was, another girl arrived at the bus stop, arms crossed.
"Piper!"
The sophomore turned around and made a face. "She's gonna kill me, Leo."
"What did you do?" Thalia smirked, and Leo's grin could only be described as 'shit eating'.
"Threw out half of her makeup drawer," Piper said as she watched the very pretty older girl stomp towards us.
I gaped at Piper as her sister, I'm guessing, finally arrived and began to chew her out.
"Si, some of those brands test their products on animals!" Piper protested as her sister shook her head.
Thalia elbowed me, then began to speak in a low voice when I turned toward her. "So here's the deal. Piper and Silena are half-sisters. Their mom used to be married to Leo's dad. Leo's lived with them and Piper's dad since his mom died. Leo's half brother is dating Silena. Don't worry, there's no possible way that Silena and Beckendorf are related."
I stared at Thalia, trying to comprehend everything that she just told me.
"Okay. And who's-"
Silena interrupted me, finally having noticed the extra body at the bus stop. "Oh my gosh! You must be Annabeth Chase! I'm Silena Beauregard, Piper's half sister." She stuck out her hand, and I shook it.
Silena was effortlessly gorgeous, which made me think that Piper was doing her a favor by tossing out her makeup. She obviously didn't need it.
"How did you know my name?" I asked her.
"Malcolm." She said simply.
My older brother Malcolm Chase had lived here all of his life, he lived with my mom when she and my dad split. I was hoping to have a class with him at school, but i doubted that he'd be around much. He mostly took college classes now, having tested out of all of the high school classes. Even the ones at the Gifted High School.
Before I could ask them how well they knew my brother, the bus came.
On the bus, I sat with Thalia.
I turned on my iPod, put the ear buds in, and hit shuffle.
The song that came up first was "Fifteen" by Taylor Swift.
Take a deep breath and walk through the doors it's the morning of your very first day.
