This one is based on 2006-2007-era Hadestown, where Hermes was Hades' minion and "Hey, Little Songbird" was sung over the phone to Eurydice.
End of the Line
The dingy, smoke-filled bar made Eurydice's hair stand on end, but it was the only place with affordable drinks. She recognized the proprietor as Hades' messenger Hermes, pilot goggles and trench coat and all—another red flag, but she was too hungry to care.
As Eurydice drank she could almost pretend it was food she was eating. Orpheus was out in the unknown, singing his song, and who knew when he'd return.
From the darkness, a phone rang. Eurydice paid no attention until Hermes handed it over. "It's for you," he said, with a glint in his eyes that told her not to keep the caller waiting.
The man on the end of the line sang to Eurydice, and she was enraptured from the first note. He sang of an end to her life of poverty; all she had to do was accept his offer. His smooth voice sucked her in, and she barely registered the phone cord wrapping itself around her like a snake.
The man waited for a response.
"Yes," she said, and the Fates snipped the thread, and Eurydice reached the end of the line.
