Heart

From the time he was old enough to understand the world as it was and sing for something better, Orpheus knew the heart of Hades was as heavy as his crown. He'd heard the mortal tales of Hadestown, taking in the stories of endless labor, and wondered if it had always been that way.

When his song came to him as if from deep below, Orpheus learned more of Hades' heart: that it had once been warm and soft, just like any man in love. His and Persephone's love may have gone wrong, there was no denying that anymore, but it had started from genuine affection and appreciation.

He didn't know whom his song of the gods was for yet, but he hoped it would make the world beautiful. And when he saw Eurydice, feeling his own heart beating in his chest with wild, reckless love, Orpheus wondered if Hades and Persephone could ever return to the way they were.

Before they were king and queen, they were two hearts entwined together.
