I've been working on the sequel to Trials for a while now. To be honest, I'm stuck. So I figured I would post this first chapter to help keep my motivation up. Let me know what y'all think.
This story is a sequel to Trials. If you have not read that story yet, please do before reading this one. Thank you for the support!
Feliks had wandered the streets of Transylvania for 10 years on his own. He rarely ran into much trouble anymore as most vampires he encountered were half-fangs turned away by their masters.
He was one of the best field operatives in the Slayers Guild. He wasn't just crazy enough to believe in vampires and insane enough to fight them, but he had military experience before he joined. A sniper from Russia. He used that same training on vampires.
Feliks settled himself inside an apartment building looking down at a street. If he ever saw vampires anymore he normally found them there as most humans ignorant enough to go out at night would typically use it. It was the roadway from many of the area bars to a few hotels.
He waited for a few hours and then he saw one. It tried to stay hidden in an ally but he could see it just barely. It was following a woman who was walking alone.
He didn't have a clear shot because the creature stayed close to the walls. It was smart, so he moved to the roof. By time he prepared his weapon he was too late to save the woman, but he could at least dust her killer who was still feasting on her.
Feliks lined his shot and pulled the trigger releasing an argentalium bolt. It never reached the monster. And the bolt disappeared.
He reloaded, but heard a footstep behind him. He pulled out his UV pistol without thinking.
He was hit from the side and almost knocked off the roof. Ignoring the burning pain on his left side, he got back on his feet and looked around. No one was there.
Feliks smiled. It had been a while since he faced a vampire head on. "Where are you?" he said.
He waited and listened. Vampires gave off a distinguishable sound when they used their speed abilities. He just had to be patient.
Once he finally heard it he turned and shot.
Feliks's expression changed to shock. A vampire was in the path of his UV bullet, but nothing happened. He just stood there smiling at him.
The vampire, who looked much like a teenager, held up the bullet in his hand for Feliks to see. "You're better at this than others I've come across," the vampire said.
Feliks recognized him. "Chosen One," he sneered.
Feliks raised his gun again and the vampire responded with blue lightning, shocking it out of his hands. "Gah!" He yelled out and fell to his knees. His hands were numb. The slayer looked up and saw a second vampire standing with his opponent. A female with the same raven black hair.
"Thanks for drawing him out, Ingrid," Vlad said.
"You're welcome," she smiled. "Have fun."
Vlad kneeled in front of Feliks. Anticipating what he would do, Feliks shut his eyes.
"Look at me," Vlad said softly trying to hypnotize him.
Feliks resisted. He was awarded with a punch in the gut, but he still refused to cooperate.
"Stubborn," Vlad said. "I would play along, but I don't have time for this." He turned back to Ingrid. "A little help?"
Ingrid stood behind Feliks, holding his head up with one hand and clawed at his eyes with the other forcing them open. The last thing Feliks saw was a yellow glow.
"Where are the other slayers in this area?" Vlad asked
Feliks told him where to find at least five slayers all staying in the surrounding area.
"Got all that, Piers?" Vlad spoke into his wristband. It was the same one he wore before that tracked his location. Piers had upgraded it so he could freely communicate with them while Piers stayed in his lab. It was also decorated with their Coat of Arms, the Count's idea. Each of the Dracula's wore one.
"Got it," Piers said from the earpiece.
Vlad kept staring at the slayer, "Where is Jonathan VanHelsing?"
"I don't know," Feliks said involuntarily.
Vlad growled in frustration and snapped his fingers breaking the slayer from his trance.
Feliks found it hard to refocus. Ingrid held his arms behind his back.
Vlad leaned in staring at the slayer's pulse in his neck. He showed the slayer his fangs, "If you hadn't been so difficult before then I would have been sure to make this painless." He bit down.
Feliks refused to scream. He wouldn't give the monster the satisfaction. In his final moments he thought about his life. He had no family so he didn't have to worry about anyone missing him. He had done a lot in his career as a soldier and slayer. He hoped he made enough of a difference that in the end it would have mattered.
He felt tired from the loss of blood and drifted off.
To be clear, more chapters won't likely be posted until the story is finished, or at least close to being finished. I'll try to not take too long, but I want to give y'all my best. Thank you for y'all's patience.
