Cody couldn't have been happier.
Another week passed by at Camp; Cody spent as much time he could with Noah. Their time was spent playing video games, stealing kisses that left them with rosy cheeks and butterflies in their stomach, taking romantic walks in the woods (as romantic as it can be at Camp Wawanakwa…), sitting against a tree with Noah reading his book aloud to Cody, arm wrapped around his waist… it felt like a dream, but every time Cody tried to pinch himself, he would be reminded that it wasn't.
Like he promised, he didn't tell anyone of their relationship. But in all honesty, Cody was surprised that no one had figured it out; it wasn't like he was a good liar or anything… but at the same time, they've been spending time together since they got back. The only camper who'd be able to figure it out, rather easily actually, was DJ, but he trusted him not to say anything. Besides, ever since him and Katie got together, they've spent all their time in the kitchen.
On Noah's side, he felt bad for asking Cody to keep it a secret, but he wasn't ready to come out and he was sure that if Chris found out, his parents would be next.
But Cody understood, and Noah was relieved. Hopefully, they wouldn't have to stay hidden for too long.
Morning crawled by as Noah sat comfortably in the boys' cabin reading his book, while Cody was walking along the beach. Finding a nice view, he took a seat. He made a mental note to take his boyfriend to see it. But of course, after that, his thoughts trailed off to Noah. He still couldn't believe he liked him back!
But his thoughts were interrupted by shouts and cheers. Cody was confused so he decided to investigate. Following the sounds, he eventually found himself at the dodgeball court that looked a bit different with the clear, glass walls taken down. He watched the campers play and instinctually dodged when a stray ball flew towards him, saving his precious nose from pain.
Tyler ran towards him, "Sorry, dude!'' He apologized as he ran up to Cody.
''Why can't you throw like everyone else?!'' Courtney asked, hands on her hips, ''Someone's going to get hurt!''
''There's no need to be so mean, Courtney!'' Lindsay voiced, ''Tyler didn't mean it!''
''I'm just saying the truth, Lindsay!''
Lindsay was about to reply, but Cody intervened before things get worse, ''Girls, I'm alright! There's no need to fight!''
Both girls glanced at him, waiting for the other to make a move, but nothing happened. Courtney sighed and sat in the bleachers.
''Dodgeball… Just like in the good old days, huh?'' Cody asked, hoping to break the tension. Looking at the bleachers and the court, he noticed the campers formed their old teams.
''Killer Bass against the Screaming Gophers,'' Harold confirmed his thoughts.
Cody smirked, ''Can I join the Screaming Gophers?''
''Of course, buddy!'' Owen yelled. Cody smiled, running to the other side and high-fiving the larger teen.
''We're still missing one team member,'' Heather said, her arms crossed, ''And if you ask me, Mr. Know-It-All won't join, just like last time.''
Cody's smile faded away and his fists clenched. How did they become friends on World Tour again? He really doesn't remember… and he honestly didn't want to.
''That's not a nice thing to say, Heather,'' Owen told her.
''Oh, come on, Owen. You know it's true.''
Cody ignored the boiling of his blood, ''I can ask him if he'd like to play.''
Heather laughed, ''Do you hear yourself? I told you there's no way he'd play even if you beg him to. All he cares about is himself, his books and his philosophy," she mocked, "Besides, he certainly isn't a team player.''
If he hadn't promised to keep their relationship a secret, Cody would've immediately defended Noah. He did care about others and was a great boyfriend that was always willing to help him. He would've told her he loved video games as well as his philosophy, but Cody kept his composure.
''I'll ask,'' Cody repeated through his teeth, trying his hardest not to show his anger.
''Go ahead, but don't come back crying if he said no.''
Cody didn't even bother dignifying that with a response and left the court.
When he got to the cabin, he took a minute to regain his breath before opening the door. Just like before, Noah was sitting on his bed, book in his hand, almost done.
''Still reading, handsome?''
Noah looked up and smiled when he saw Cody, ''Missed me that much?" He joked.
''My heart couldn't handle the pain of us being apart for more than 5 minutes,'' Cody played along, kissing his cheek.
Noah laughed, putting his book aside and wrapped his arm around his waist, pulling him down to sit beside him, ''It sure can't.''
With a laugh, Cody leaned in and kissed him, wrapping his arms around his neck. Noah blushed, but tightened his hold on Cody, closing his eyes. A few seconds later, Cody pulled away, but his lips still lingered close by Noah's.
''You know I love you, right?'' Cody whispered. Noah smirked, eyebrow raised. Cody blushed, ''What?''
''What's on your mind?''
''Nothing,'' Cody told him, but Noah knew he wanted to ask him something.
''Cody…''
Cody sighed, ''The others are playing dodgeball,'' He told Noah, ''You know, with the same teams as on the first season, and… Well…''
He knew Noah would say no, but Cody said he'd ask, and he's a man of his word. "It'd be nice if you joined.''
Noah didn't even blink, and started laughing, but as he continued laughing, he saw that Cody was serious, "You're joking, right?''
''Please?'' Cody asked him, drawing out the please, but Noah shook his head. Cody pouted, ''Why not?''
''Me and sports do not go together. You know that,'' Noah said, ''And even if you make that cute pout, I won't play.''
Cody sighed, ''Alright…''
Noah kissed his cheek and grabbed his book.
Cody got up, but he was hit with a brilliant idea!
"Hey, Noah?" He asked. Noah looked up, and Cody leaned down as if to kiss him again. Noah put his book aside again and closed his eyes, prepared for the kiss, but Cody changed his trajectory at the last second, grabbing the book.
"Hey!" Noah yelled.
Cody started backing up, "If you ever want to see your book alive again, then you'll come with me!" He said and as soon as Noah moved to climb out of bed, he ran out of the cabin.
Cody heard Noah curse and follow him. He ran back towards the beach, Noah's footsteps growing closer. He took a sharp turn, but then Noah was right in front of him! In his stupor, he missed the tree root and tripped. Going down, he took Noah with him. He groaned and moved off of him, massaging his ankle.
Noah helped Cody get up and gave him a chaste kiss, ''Nice try, handsome.'' He smirked and grabbed his book.
''Could you at least play one game? For me?'' Cody grabbed Noah's hand.
''You already know my answer.''
Cody sighed, ''Okay…'' He turned to leave, shoulders slumped. The guilt of making his boyfriend sad was hitting Noah. He looked down at his book then back at the boy and sighed. Cody didn't know how whipped he had him. He ran up to Cody and bumped his shoulder, ''I'll play,'' He said and Cody perked up. ''But only one game.''
Cody grinned and grabbed his hand, pulling him towards the court. Noah couldn't help but smile back and he intertwined their fingers, but at the edge of the trail, he let go.
When the two of them arrived, the game froze… Literally. Trent ended up with a ball to the face and he didn't even flinch from it. But the most surprised was Heather. She sat in the bleachers, fuming that she was proven wrong.
Noah chuckled, "Yes, I came. Is it that much of a surprise? Heather?'' He asked.
Heather regained her smug composure rather quickly, ''Oh, no. I bet you came here to sit on the bleachers and mock your old teammates, right?''
Noah rolled his eyes, ''Ha. Ha. Ha.'' He made sure to lay the sarcasm on thick.
''Only saying the truth here, Noah.''
''Whatever,'' Noah said and looked at Cody, ''When's the game?''
''Now!'' Owen exclaimed, ''Alright, we need five players for the Screaming Gophers and five for the Killer Bass! Who wants to join me for the first match?''
''I'll join, and Noah too!'' Cody said and Noah nodded, taking their place on the other side.
''I'll join,'' Leshawna said and high-fived the boys. Heather stood up and walked past Noah, ignoring the glare the bookworm gave her. But the glare quickly died down when Cody grabbed his shoulder.
Tyler, Harold, DJ, Katie and Bridgette made up the Killer Bass team. Both teams got ready and when a whistle sounded from who knows where, DJ grabbed a ball, aiming it at Noah.
Heather was sure he was going to get hit, but to her surprise, and everyone else's for that matter, Noah dodged it in time, quite elegantly actually.
Noah took their surprise as an opportunity to grab the ball. He was about to throw it back at DJ, but he knew he'd catch it. He wasn't the best tosser, so he gave it to Cody. The geek smiled and launched the ball at DJ. It was just quick enough for DJ not to be able to catch it.
The ex-Screaming Gophers couldn't believe it. While the team was shouting in joy, Noah took the time to sneak a wink at Cody, making him blush. DJ kissed Katie on his way to the bleachers and Cody took her distraction as another opportunity. He eliminated her rather quickly. Tyler too. Harold managed to take Cody out and Bridgette, Leshawna.
''How are you still on the court?!'' Heather yelled at Noah, ''You're the weakest player out here!''
Noah glared at her and threw a ball. However, Heather managed to dodge it, making the ball hit Bridgette.
''Missed me,'' Heather laughed.
It only made Noah angrier, but Heather didn't notice Harold tossing a ball at her. It hit her right in the shoulder. She screamed, but whether it was from pain or from anger, no one knew for sure.
''That's what you get for mocking me, Heather,'' Noah told her and she huffed, walking back to the bleachers.
Harold tossed another ball, towards Owen this time. One would've thought that Owen would catch the ball, but he didn't… so he was eliminated.
So, now, Noah was alone against Harold. His heart started racing as he felt every campers' eyes on him. He looked at Cody who smiled and gave him a thumbs up. Noah smiled back and focused himself by taking a deep breath. He clenched his fists and bent his knees. Harold smirked, obviously loving the challenge. He quickly grabbed a ball and threw it at Noah.
The ball hit Noah in the chest. Heather was sure that Noah was going to drop it, but with surprising reflexes, he lunged forward and grabbed the ball, holding it to his chest as he fell on his stomach.
The ex-Screaming Gophers cheered happily as they all gathered around Noah, cheering and congratulating him, followed by the ex-Killer Bass members. Even though they lost, it was still a miracle that Noah played and won! The only one who didn't congratulate him was Heather, but no one paid any mind to her… She was always grouchy anyway.
Cody was the last one to join the group. He started running towards Noah, wanting to jump into his arms and kiss him, but he knew it wasn't a good idea. Trying to stop himself, he ended up stepping on a ball. Cody quickly lost his balance and within seconds, his face had met the ground. Noah's eyes widened and he rushed over to help him.
''Are you alright?''
''Y-yeah!'' Cody spat out some dirt, ''I knew you had it in you, Noah!''
''I guess I had a good reason to play this time,'' He said and looked at Heather who rolled her eyes. He then looked back at him, ''I know I said I'd play one game, but I suppose another one wouldn't hurt.'' He would never admit it, but the grin he received from Cody was enough to turn him to mish, but he had to keep his composure!
But seriously, Cody really couldn't have been happier.
