The results flickered onto the screen, I could hear the faint buzz of the projector over our heads, as the class fell silent to read them.
I'd sidled up next to Midoriya- he had a tendency to mumble anyway and when he noticed me shuffle over just before the results came up, he must've realised my intention. When the projection settled on the wall, he mumbled all the results, a bit clearer than his usual mumbling voice, and he made sure to go through the whole list for me. It was greatly appreciated, and I memorised the list without properly thinking it over, replaying it in my head slowly when he'd finished.

First place, unsurprisingly, was Shoto Todoroki. The utility of his quirk and the training he'd undoubtedly received from his father- Pro Hero Endeavor- had certainly contributed to that. In second place was Katsuki Bakugo, who I could already tell was smirking at the results, and I felt his cold yet cocky glare on me. Revisiting the results Midoriya had just relayed to me, I remembered that he'd placed third, an incredible improvement considering he'd told me he'd placed last the first time they'd done these tests, six weeks ago. Thankfully, I'd placed fourth place, roughly where I'd aimed for. No one would underestimate me, but hopefully I'd avoid the hatred of my other classmates by not surpassing the established pros in the class. Although, I would probably have a hard time if I'd been properly trying to beat the top three.
It was definitely a relief to find I'd placed exactly where I'd wanted and expected to place. It took some of the pressure off me, although Bakugo's constant glaring worried me. His success over me hadn't seemed to satisfy him as much as I thought it would, I clearly underestimated his spite. The rest of the results were predictable, I noted that Iida had placed sixth, and Uraraka had placed ninth.
The class had exploded into noise a moment after the results were shown, but by the time I'd properly thought user the results, they'd quietened down under Aizawa's stares.
"Alright! If you don't shut up right now, you're all getting detentions," He growled. Clearly the lunchtime nap I'd not used him take wasn't enough for the sleep deprived man. The bags under his eyes were so pronounced even I could sense them. The remaining noise from the class died down in seconds, and Aizawa-Sensei spoke again, more satisfied. "We've only got fifteen minutes left until the end of the day, and I don't want to deal with you lot any longer," I hadn't realised so much time had passed, but passing my hand over the in built watch in my sleeve revealed he was correct. "So, you're all going to get changed and go home early. But first, Uraraka, Kaminari and Takada, go to the nurses office." I frowned as a couple students turned to look at me and Uraraka next to me, but after a moment of thought I realised she was a bit unsteady on her feet, still feeling nauseous from her quirk. Kaminari, on the other side of the class, also seemed a bit out of it, and I realised he probably overused his quirk at some point. Aizawa must have been paying closer attention to us than I thought, although I guessed the dried blood under my nose was a bit of a give away.
The class filed out of the sports hall, Aizawa waiting just outside the door for everyone to leave so he could lock up. I followed my new friends towards the changing rooms, but Aizawa shook his head and directed me and Uraraka, and Kaminari who was standing just behind us, towards what I assumed was the nurses office. We all simultaneously sighed, but turned that way anyway. I followed Uraraka, though she was still clutching her stomach, and Kaminaris face seemed abnormally blank and woozy, though I hadn't known him for very long.
I shoved my hands in my pockets and walked with my head down as we passed the gym where class 1-B was exiting. They were chattering excitedly, much like our class, but as we passed in front of their group, a few looked up and snickered, seeing three out of twenty of their opposing class ill and heading to the nurses office. I'd read over their files as well, but none of them stood out too much quirk-wise, and I didn't have any information about their personality.
Two minutes of slow and quiet walking later, Kaminari opened a door in the side of the building for us, and I re-orientated myself within the building. The nurses office should only be around the corner, the first or second door on the left. We walked as a group to the correct door, I recognised a metal plaque on it and noted to myself that it was the second door and not the first, for some reason I figured I'd need to know where it was in the future.
As Uraraka opened the door, a small figure leapt over to the doorway, holding the door further open and ushering us in with frantic movements. When she stopped moving to hold the door, I realised she was wearing some kind of helmet and visor, and a syringe tying her hair back in a bun. I recognised her as Recovery Girl, UA's nurse. She mumbled about Aizawa and the quirk evaluations under her breath as we were pushed towards separate beds, she had surprising strength for someone so small. Once we'd all sat down, she went over to Uraraka, who was still holding her stomach, and started asking her all sorts of questions.
Whilst Uraraka described her sickness, I turned my attention to the room. It was fairly large, it had at least eight beds with curtain rails running throughout the room, and high tech heart monitors and machinery beside most of the beds. A desk and computer sat in the corner, and a few cupboards full of medical supplies. I sensed posters in the walls too.
All of a sudden I felt the three foot woman appear in front of me, looking up at me with raised eyebrows. "Well? What are you in her for? Oh! You're the new student, right? Kei Takada?" She turned her head to the side, waiting for my confirmation. The way she spoke conveyed a further meaning, and I knew what she wanted to know. She'd recognised me, but she wanted to know if it was true that I was blind.
"Uh, yeah that's me." I replied with slight hesitation. I was trying to figure out if she knew that I hadn't told my classmates yet, but she noticed my hesitation and probably my body language, and nodded quickly. I took that to mean she knew about my blindness and also my reluctance to tell the other students. She quickly turned her attention back to why I was here, and noticing the dried blood on my face, grabbed a wipe.
"So, what happened to you?" I felt her eyes boring into me , as she studied my face and injuries.
"It's nothing big, I overused my quirk is all," she raised her eyebrows again. "When I overuse my quirk, my nose bleeds. If I keep going, my ears start to bleed," to emphasise my point I pulled my headphones off and put them on the bed next to me. She could see the dried blood on my ears as well and scowled further, annoyed I'd continued to use my quirk despite the effects.
"Considering you know the signs of quirk overuse, I'm guessing you've done it a few times before?" She asked, collecting a few more wiped from the drawers next to me and giving them to me to clean the blood away with. I nodded. "Alright then, you should know the procedure by now. I can't beak you because it's not a physical wound, blah blah blah, you just need to take it easy for a day or two, and get plenty of rest. You'll be fine if you don't keep using your quirk." She took the bloodied wipes back and grabbed my head to turn it, checking I'd managed to get the remaining blood off. She nodded again, satisfied, then instructed me to lay down for five minutes while she double checked in the other two.
After giving Uraraka anti-sickness tablets and telling Kaminari the same as me- get plenty of rest- she let us all go back to the changing rooms to leave. By that point, the rest of the school had just been dismissed, so the corridors were full. However, Recovery Girls office being at the back of the school meant we were stuck behind the crowds, not in the midst of them.
Yet another five minutes later, we'd navigated our way to the changing rooms, and Uraraka disappeared into the girls while me and Kaminari went to out lockers in the boys to get our clothes.
"Hey Takada, you pulled some pretty cool stunts out there today! What's your quirk?" Kaminari's question surprised me as I was comfortable in silence, but his genuine interest moved me to answer.
"Oh, Thanks, m-my quirk is changing air pressure," I replied nervously. People were usually dismissive about my quirk but my friends reactions had surprised me and I felt better about talking about it.
The obvious surprise on his face faded quickly into admiration. "Dude, that's so cool! Wow, if I had a quirk like that I'd be useless! You must be so smart!" I could feel my face heat up, compliments weren't something I could easily deal with.
"T-thanks, but I bet your quirk is pretty complex too, right? Changing voltage and stuff?" My attempt to change the topic seemed to work, and I removed my coat and boots, trying to change quickly so I could get home.
"Yeah, I guess so! Although I'm not that great at it obviously, I totally fried that grip strength device..." he trailed off.
"Don't worry, I'm sure you'll get better, when I first started, all I could do was create gusts of wind. You'll learn," His face seemed to brighten more at that, and he closed his locker.
"You're so right dude! Thanks bro, I gotta get home, but I'll see you tomorrow!" He smiled enthusiastically at me, throwing his uniform into his bag, probably because his hero costume was relatively normal and wouldn't stand out as he headed home. I smiled back, waving a bit as the door swung shut behind the electric boy.
I sighed. Talking this much was exhausting, especially to new people. All I wanted to do was go home and sleep, or maybe just listen to some music and catch up on my studying. I didn't have the same luxury as Kaminari, who could just leave in his costume, my hero costume was pretty unusual.
I'd designed it specifically well in advance, wanting to be fully prepared, so it was well equipped. I had tight black trousers and a black long sleeve top, with a dark utility belt around my waist. It had plenty of pockets, obtaining everything from medical supplies to a spare set of communication earbuds. Over the top of my clothes, I had a long black coat. It flowed down to my calves, and had sleeves and a large hood. It could also be done up in the front to hide my utility belt, and was made specially for me. The material used for it was lightweight and thin, but still opaque and thick enough to keep me warm. It made almost no noise when I moved, so that it wouldn't distract me, but would still move in any air flows that I hadn't detected, to slightly extend my range. It also hid me and what I was doing from enemies behind me, and was pretty distracting. I'd put all my thought into this costume, and it was perfect for me. It was, however, not entirely appropriate to wear out of school or on the train home, so I pulled my uniform on.
It only took me a minute to change, and I shoved my hero costume back into its case, though I thought for a moment and took out the shirt and trousers to wash at home. Once I'd left the building, I realised my conversation with Kaminari had slowed me down and most of the students had already kept the school grounds. A few remained, talking with each other, but the few groups were sparse.
I turned my headphones down again, enjoying the sounds of the birds hopping around in the trees. Overall it had been a good day, my classmates had accepted me into the class easily, and I'd even made friends. The only hitch was Bakugo, but I kept my elation about coming fourth in the evaluation overshadow that for now. I smiled slightly to myself, turning a corner so I was heading towards the school gates.
There was no one around, the school ground were empty towards the front of the buildings, the students remaining still hanging with their friends by the outdoor eating areas. However, one detail caught my attention. In the small alley next to me, besides the waste bins which were set back into the building to keep them from public view, was a person. They were leaning against the wall, arms crossed. I ignored them in favour of passing the alley and trying to catch the next train.
As soon as I stepped in line with the alley, the figure I'd been carefully and subconsciously keeping an eye on darted forwards, reaching for me. I couldn't dodge the unexpected attack in time, because of my exertion during the afternoon. As the persons hands closed around my neck, and began to throw me back into the alley and out of view, I finally managed to recognise their features.
My eyes widened in fear and apprehension, my muscles tensing, and my back slamming against the wall of the building as I realised just his much trouble I was in.

Hi! Sorry for forgetting to update this in so long, I'll set a reminder for myself. If you're really invested in this story check out my Wattpad (Em0Wolf) where I've uploaded a bunch more chapters. I've also made an announcement over there- after the arc I'm uploading on wattpad at the minute, I'm going to change the format of the story, into slightly more like one/two/three shots of separate plot arcs, with slightly bigger timeskips in between. The only reason is that I'm losing motivation for this story, because I struggle to write the bits in between. I have a few ideas, so after I finish that arc I'll pause updates for a while so I can edit this story as it's very long and there's quite a few unnecessary bits (the three entire chapters for quirk assessments, mainly). I don't know how well I explained that, so if you don't understand check out my wattpad for a better explanation, but if you can't be bothered then don't worry because you'll still be able to read the story the same as before.
Thanks for reading!
