AN: Hey there! I'm here to annoy you with another story. I'm not sure how many chapters this story would have, and I hope you will like it. This is a work in progress, and I want to apologize in advance if I won't post regularly.
I want to thank Anna, Jenny, and Tharsi for helping me to choose the title for this story!
Enjoy chapter 1! :D
CHAPTER 1
It's their last day of college. They still can't believe how fast went the last years. It's like they all met yesterday and now the group of 6 (called 'The fantastic 6' by their teachers and most of their colleagues) is inseparable.
He still can't believe he's gonna be a graduate tomorrow and a future UCLA student. If only he could tell his friends about it. It's not that he doesn't want them to know, but they would think he's leaving them and he's not. One of his professors told him about this opportunity and he took it. He was sure he won't be accepted, that was the main reason he didn't tell his friends, but last week he received the letter of acceptance. Now he needs to find the perfect moment to tell them. But he would break Kate's heart and Rick doesn't want that. Not after the last 3 months spent with Kate and not with Kate and Josh.
Josh was a little older than Rick, Kate, Lanie, Javi, Kevin, and Jenny and he is a future surgeon, or that's what he said he wants to do. Rick is still not sure what drew Kate to Josh. They didn't have too many things in common, hated Kate's friends and he didn't want to be involved in Kate's plans. He wasn't interested in her future at all, but somehow, they were together for one year and a half. But thankfully, Kate realized he's not what she needs in her life and broke up with Josh. Being the good friend he always was, Rick was there for Kate when she needed it the most, and now, after 3 months things started to look better for them.
'I can't go to LA and leave Kate here. I love her!'
That's when Rick realized something. He loved Kate more than just a friend. More than he loved Kyra and that said something since he considered Kyra the love of his life. Yeah, they were in high school, but he thought she was his soulmate. And he thought about that until he found Kate.
Rick was about to call his parents and tell them about his decision on helping them with the family business when Javi called him.
"Hey bro! I talked with the group and we decided to do a little celebration before our graduation. Not too much alcohol, I swear. I don't want to see Kevin crying again because Jenny is already in a relationship with him. So, what do you say?"
Rick chuckled when he remembered what Kevin did at their last party. They had to take him home because the Irishman was ready to fight with everyone that looked at Jenny.
"Yeah, we don't want that to happen again." He was laughing now.
"I'm game. We can throw the party at my apartment. I can order pizza and you can bring some beer if that's okay with you."
"It's perfect!" He heard Lanie and Kate yelling.
"You heard the girls, bro. We will be there in an hour!"
"Okay! See you in a few!" And he hung up.
'Better clean this mess. And fast!'
It was the first time Kate came to his apartment as his girlfriend and he hoped they would spend some time alone, away from the prying eyes of their friends. He needs to make a good impression, even if Kate knows how his apartment looks.
One hour later Rick got a call from the doorman announcing that his friends arrived along with the pizza order.
They played games, watched a few movies, and enjoyed each other's company. They didn't need alcohol to have fun.
After a while, Lanie, Javi, Kevin, and Jenny decided to go home. 'Big day tomorrow' Kevin said. But Kate didn't want to leave, hoping to spend more time with Rick, if he was up to that. Lanie knew what Kate wanted to do and when she left, she told her best friend to have an amazing night before winking in Rick's direction.
'Thank god he was busy with boys.'
She looked at Lanie with that 'I'm gonna kill you' look but knew her friend wants only the best for her.
She was ready to take her relationship to the next level, only if that's what Rick wanted. Kate always considered his opinion, not only in their relationship but even before that. He was her best friend before he was her boyfriend, and she tries to keep it that way now too.
They were both nervous and excited at the same time, but both of them decided to take the next step and were heading to Rick's bedroom where they spent the night together.
When she woke up Kate was the happiest person in the entire world. She spent the night with her best friend, and it was amazing. Even tried some tricks that involved ice cubes.
"Babe!" she tried to wake Rick. She didn't want him to be late for his graduation. When he didn't respond she started to kiss him.
"Mmm, good morning to me! You could wake me up like this for the rest of our lives."
What normally would have scared her, this statement made Kate looking forward to her future. Their future.
"Babe, I have to go home and get ready. And you should wake up and do that too."
"Just five more minutes, please."
"Nope. We both know those 5 minutes would turn into more, and we don't want to be late for our graduation."
"Oh, you're right. Your dad might kill me if he goes to his daughter's graduation and she's not there because I just wanted to cuddle."
"Cute trick, but it's not working. Now, get out of bed and make me your famous coffee."
"I see how it is. You're using me for my coffee skills."
"You got me. Up, now!"
They both drank their coffee and Kate left promising him they would meet before the ceremony would start.
Rick was waiting for Kate with their friends.
"She said she'll be here before-"
"Ah, I see her. She's with her parents and with-" Lanie didn't want to finish that phrase because she knew Rick would be angry. But it was too late. He spotted them.
He couldn't believe his eyes. Kate was with her parents and with Josh, laughing. He felt like he was stabbed in the heart with a million knives.
'And I thought that maybe we have something. Man, how wrong I was. She was just using me. I'm an idiot.'
That's when Rick's world turned upside down and he decided to tell his friends about his changed decision.
"I'm going to leave in a few days. I've got an opportunity at UCLA and I'm going to accept their offer!"
