"Nox!" I yelled, instantly extinguishing all the lights upstairs. I grab my baby boy from his crib, holding him tight to my chest, my sweet Harry, and prepare to run. Run for our lives, because that is what it has come down to. Run or fight. Run or die. And right now, there isn't anything I wouldn't do just to keep Harry safe.
But at the last minute, I place him down in his crib again, kissing his sweet head, knowing that this is going to be the last time I see the sweet face of my beloved son.
I already lost my husband, I saw the green flash of death just as I ran up the stairs. I didn't have a chance to tell him that I loved him one last time. Hopefully, we will find each other on the other side of the veil.
"Harry, I love you. Daddy loves you. You are the best thing that ever happened to us. Know that you are loved, Harry."
Just then the doors blast open. He is standing in front of me. The one we have feared for so long. The one that we have hidden our sweet Harry from. He is evil in the flesh. He is here for Harry, but there is no way that I will ever let him lay a hand on my son.
As the curse goes flying Harry's direction, I jump in front of it. I can only protect Harry this way, and I will watch him grow from the other side of the veil, with James at my side.
Charms was the first class of the day and Harry and Ron were dragged in by Hermione, both the boys dragging their feet needing a few more hours of sleep after the previous night's excursions.
"Today, class, we will be learning two useful spells - Nox and Lumos," Flitwick says from his precariously piled mountain of books.
Just then a flash of green light is all that Harry sees, the word 'Nox' whispered from his mother's lips. It was the last spell she cast. The spell she hoped would hide him from Voldemort. It is nothing more than a haunting memory he hopes.
At that moment, on the other side of the veil, Lily Potter covers her mouth as her husband holds her close. "How does he remember, James?" she asks trepidatiously. "He shouldn't remember, he was too young. He shouldn't remember, it was too horrific."
"Lily, we have watched him for years and will continue to watch over him. He's strong and brave. He will do what he needs to when the time is right. Have faith. This is only the beginning of a great life he will lead, full of adventure and love."
Harry doesn't know of the conversation taking place so close, but still so far away from him. With a quick swish of his wand, he calls out, "Nox" and not only does his candle extinguish, but all the candles in the class at once.
