Four minutes after the battle on the bridge, Blackjack encounters a broken-down grocery store that must have been already looted by Reunion soldiers. The dead civilians, the broken glass windows, broken lights, and all the missing food creates a depressing scene to look at. But Blackjack doesn't react much. He doesn't shed a tear or clench his fists. He just stared at it for a minute and then heard the sounds of wood being scrapped across concrete. A Reunion junkman approaches the Ursus soldier in a drunken state from behind. As Blackjack turns around, the junkman notices the Ursus and he leaps forward to bonk him. Blackjack nearly misses, but the enemy quickly recovers and swings his heavy club. It punched Blackjack. As the Ursus soldier was slightly injured, another swung to the left leg and he was down to the ground. Blackjack is hurt, but he rolled away just before the club slammed onto the ground. The Reunion member shouted in fury, "Quit doing that!" But then distant sounds of arts, bullets, blades, and arrows can be heard as the Reunion soldier turned around. Blackjack took this opportunity and grabbed his pistol. BAM! The junkman was dead and fell to the ground. Blackjack seemed fine at first, but then he realized his left leg couldn't move for some reason. He can't get up.
Blackjack had to use his arms to drag himself inside of an abandoned shop he considered safe. He hid behind a counter just as his broken leg was bleeding. But just as he took a breath a voice from outside said, "Hey, did we check out this area?" Another voice responded back with, "No, I don't think so. There could be more of those damn non-infected Ursus. We need to get every one of those people and kill them. Teach them a lesson about the power of the Originium and our revenge." Blackjack quickly ejects his pistol's magazine to check on the ammo inside. 8 rounds left. He reinserts the pistol magazine and waits for the Reunion soldiers to come. "Hey, is this blood?" One of the voices from outside asked. "Yeah," answered the other one. "There must be a survivor in here." Then, the door was kicked open as two guys in brown rags equipped with crossbows and quivers came in. "We need to search this place," one of the Reunion crossbowmen said. "Didn't another group already come to this place though? I see the place is a big dump," the other crossbowman said. They both moved about and checked every nook and cranny just as Blackjack stays quiet. Once one of the crossbowmen walked over to the counter, he took a peak around the corner and Blackjack shot him in the face. The blood splatters onto some jars. The dead crossbowman falls to his left. "HEY! WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE?!" The other crossbowman shouts while pointing his weapon at the counter. Blackjack turns around, gets himself up, and fires another round. It misses and instead shoots a lightbulb. The Ursus lunges himself just as the crossbowman fires a bolt. But the bolt lands on Blackjack's left calf. In retaliation Blackjack fires another shot at the last crossbowman, and more blood splatters as the latter falls backwards. With no more Reunion soldiers possibly coming, Blackjack pulls the bolt out of his calf just as some blood squirts out. He pulled himself up using the nearby counter and he moves very slowly to the back door.
Blackjack inhaled and exhaled three times after moving into an alleyway behind the shop. He faced downwards until someone new walked up to him. "Hey, did you drop this?" A female voice said. Blackjack didn't pay any attention until a familiar looking gun was dropped in front of him. This was the assault rifle that Blackjack once had at the beginning of the riots. "H-how did you find this?" He said as he looked up to see a female vampire Sarkaz. Most Sarkaz are recognized by their horns and light tails. But the vampire subspecies don't have any of them and instead have pointy ears and a lust for blood. Well, most of them have the desire to feast on blood. Does this one want blood? She has white long hair and white skin, is wearing a black dress, pantyhose, a medical armband, and she is carrying a staff with a blood bag on it. "I found this assault rifle on some soldier's dead body. I saw your name engraved on the right side of the rear grip. Are you really Blackjack?" After nodding, Blackjack then asks, "You're going to kill me now, aren't you?" You can see that I am bleeding to death, my leg here has been rendered useless. You can just take my blood and leave this falling city I suppose." The girl doesn't look like she intends to feed on him, so instead she crouches and takes a look at the soldier's wounds. "Silly you. I may look like one of those Sarkaz, but I can assure you I don't think you deserve to rot to death here. Besides, didn't you just kill roughly entire groups of those Reunion rioters? And you just want to give up now? And judging by your horns, are you actually a Sarkaz?" The vampire says as she rolls up Blackjack's pants' left side to see the blood wound. "Sarkaz? Yes, I am a Sarkaz. You think I would be able to fake such an appearance if otherwise?" After a few seconds, the Sarkaz smirks as she then says, "Well this is no problem for someone like me. I've treated countless individuals no matter the type of wound. I luckily brought some basic medical equipment along." Once she begins patching it up, Blackjack wonders why the hell is she helping him. Is it because of pity or selflessness? Or because she's some sort of secret fan or admirer. His thoughts came to an end when the Sarkaz said, "Consider this a free favor from Rhodes Island." Rhodes Island, the pharmaceutical company? What in the world are they doing here out of all places, thought Blackjack. "Aren't you people supposed to be finding a cure for Oripathy? Is this a part of that research or what?" Blackjack asks as he is demanding what really is Rhodes Island. He has heard of them, he has seen various pictures of their company logo and brand with the donkey girl. "Oh, the research for the cure?" The vampire asks a bit mildly. "Yeah, we're here to extract a VIP. They are the one that can help boost it substantially." Finally, the wound has been tended to. "Uh, thanks for the healing. Now I should go then," Blackjack says as he gets up. He grabs his assault rifle, inspects the magazine and chamber, and starts to get back on track. However, he turned to the vampire and asked, "So, are you going now?" That's when the girl starts to realize she got lost since she didn't pay any attention on her way to Blackjack. "Ugh, fine. You can come with me if you want. You can heal and I know how to fire a gun. It'll work out fine. We find Rhodes Island's transport, and then at that point we seperate. Okay?" After some thinking, the vampire decides to trust Blackjack and go along with him. "Sure. Oh right, I didn't give you my name. I am Dr. Warfarin, the founder of Rhodes Island's Blood Bank." She quickly mentions. "Alright Warfarin, let's go," The Sarkaz soldier says back.
The two are running alongside a canal as Warfarin spots three Reunion mercenaries throwing corpses to a bonfire. "Enemies Blackjack!" She warned the soldier. "Yeah, I can see them," Blackjack answers as he grabs his assault rifle and pulls the trigger. One of the mercenaries got shredded by bullets as the other two looked while dropping one corpse. Blackjack gets close to the left one and he kicks the enemy's shin just as he was about to take his knife out. Then, Blackjack is about to kill the third one. However, one miscalculated dodge and he ended up getting stabbed in the chest. Luckily, Warfarin quickly ran up and bonked the mercenary so hard he fell into a concussion. Then, Warfarin used her staff to heal Blackjack almost instantly. The latter finished off the crawling Reunion guy with the rifle. However, every one of these corpses are civilians and they're already dead. Nobody seems to need any rescuing. "We're still too late for these people. But in the future we'll still be able to rescue billions more." Blackjack says to Warfarin before he notices smoke in the air up ahead. "Are they burning down more buildings and civilians? Warfarin, eyes up! We got more enemies nearby," He says while pointing to redirect the vampire doctor's attention. They both rush forward to investigate the situation.
When they got there, Blackjack sees a hospital being burned down by members of Reunion. Casters used pyromancy Arts on doctors, patients, and civilians. A soldier chops off the arm of a Ursus guard. And in front of the two non-infected Sarkaz is a crossbowman watching the events unfolding below him. As Blackjack prepares to pull out his knife, Warfarin stops his right arm as she points towards another crossbowman approaching the first one. This one is wearing red colors instead of yellow and he has a scope attached to his weapon. "We tried to find evidence that these people were about to sell out to the government," the red crossbowman said to the yellow one. "And did we do it?" The other crossbowman asked. "Not yet, but we checked out the whole place. It's worthless, unlike that military garrison we just ransacked a few moments ago. At least in there, we actually got some things like ammunition and weapons for the good cause," replied the red one. As the conversation between those two ends, Blackjack pulls out his assault rifle instead. The weapon has a suppressor on it so the sounds of the gun shooting will be mostly silent. "Okay Warfarin, so they said they've attacked a recent military garrison. We can assume everyone there is either dead or has run off. And with the stolen gear, they may be a bit more difficult than the ones I've killed in the last two hours," Blackjack quietly whispers from Warfarin's left side. "So I want you to take these blood bags," Warfarin says as she hands Blackjack some of her blood bags. "Not only will it heal you in case you lose blood again, but it should enhance your power and capabilities at a certain price," the vampire then explains briefly. "You tested this?" Blackjack asks as he doubts the reliability of these bags of blood. "Uh, no?" Warfarin asks slyly. But then she clarifies, "Yet after all the research and time I did to make all of this special I hope these will contribute further not just for my blood bank but also for Rhodes Island's patients who experience blood loss and such." "Yeah, but if I die you'll only have yourself to blame as you get captured alone by these savages," Blackjack says before he moves slowly to the back of the crossbowmen. He then stabs the yellow one in the back and knocks out the red one before finishing the Reunion crossbowmen out. Blackjack uses a nearby zipline to get behind some crates close to the action. Warfarin decides to move towards the military outpost quietly and observe Blackjack from there.
Just as three Reunion soldiers pass by the crates, Blackjack peeked around the corner to identify each enemy. Four junkmen, five shielded soldiers, and three red hounds. Trying to move his left leg, Blackjack accidentally steps onto a yellow Originium Slug. He quickly stomps on it twice to avoid the thing alerting the other enemies. He takes a look again, this time seeing a fourth hound. Blood is coming out of the mouth of the hound. Blackjack quietly moves right to right behind more crates. However, he accidentally tips over a can unknowingly. One of the red hounds is alerted by the sound and goes over to investigate. Blackjack knows that if he goes loud, the Reunion rioters will try to burn everything quickly and destroy the whole city right when there's catastrophes set to occur. So he needs to be quicker than before and also think quicker. He reaches for his knife while the hound sniffs a couple times. The animal identifies the smell as unknown, thus increasing more suspicion. Tensions are rising slowly until finally one Reunion leader came over and said, "We're done. There's nothing valuable here other than correcting a mole. Let's move it" The other soldiers, slugs, and hounds all proceeded to move as Blackjack finally calmed down. But then something very ridiculous happens right after. Another Ursus soldier leaps out of hiding from an alleyway and stabs a Reunion soldier in the head twice. What the fuck, thought Blackjack as he just watches that man die to a bunch of bolts and crude weapons. But Blackjack then moves into the burning hospital just as an entire group of Reunion soldiers were packing up. "He's part of the oppressors!" One infected soldier shouted before he was shot by Blackjack. The others scrambled for their weapons and tried to kill Blackjack. Between the flickering flames and the burning wood, Blackjack dodges and fights the enemies. But the longer he keeps fighting, the hotter the hospital gets. So he shoots a soldier with a grenade, takes the grenade, and pulls the pin. The Sarkaz throws it back at the Reunion members before he turns around and races to get out. One of the Reunion soldiers tries to catch up and stop Blackjack. That meant leaving behind his two teammates with the grenade. An explosion occurs and Blackjack plunges right out to the ground. He was about to crawl away quickly, but the Reunion soldier then comes and tackles Blackjack. "Let go of me," said Blackjack as he turns around and fends off the enemy. "No way," ferociously said the Reunion soldier. This diversion of words allowed Blackjack to push the soldier off of him and then grab the sword of a dead Reunion soldier and kill him. The fires flicker, ash can be smelled from a mile away, and shadows get bigger as the other Reunion members go back to investigate the situation. Blackjack realizes this and starts running into alleyways and through tight spaces. He can't just run straight into the military outpost. He finally goes into an open sewer after jumping and then landing right on top of a crossbowman. Blackjack stomps him once and instead of attacking any of the other enemies near him, he just keeps running.
Meanwhile, Warfarin had her own share of destruction. Two Reunion guards with shields blocked her path as they watch her with suspicion. "What's with the rudeness?" Warfarin asks to fend off these people. "You're not supposed to be here, lady. We're keeping the place away from non-infected people like you!" The one guard on the left says. Warfarin closed her eyes and pouted, "Well then, that's too bad." She then opens her eyes again and uses her staff to ferociously stab the left guard's neck. As the blood runs along with the pointy ends of the staff, some of it goes into the blood bag attached to one of them. Warfarin then uses free right hand to scratch the other guard. It hurts, but only a little bit. He grabs her by the collar of her cloak until Blackjack charges from a dark area behind and pierces through the guard's chest with a pitchfork the Sarkaz found from some dead guy in the alleyway. The guard screamed louder as Blackjack continued to press the pitchfork further in. The latter lifts his left foot and uses it to push the guard off the pitchfork. "Did you really have to do that? You know you've seen something better than that. Just, why?" Warfarin asks as she's unable to believe that this is the strength of one simple Ursus soldier. "I didn't, actually," Blackjack said as he throws his pitchfork to the side. "This is the only thing I grabbed while running from reinforcements." More footsteps are approaching quickly. "Let's get inside now. And take the bodies too," the Sarkaz soldier then said as he grabs the dead body near him while Warfarin picks up the other one.
They moved quickly, and none of the other Reunion soldiers actually came to investigate luckily. Blackjack lets out a sign as he turns away from the entrance and plumps down with the vampire. "How are we gonna get out of this place already? It feels worse than Kazdal," Warfarin complains to the only person sitting next to her. "We just need to get moving. It can't be too far from here," Blackjack says in order to boost morale. Then, radio interference scrambles from the dead soldier's walkie talkie radio opposite of the two. Finally a voice cried out from it announcing, "This is Koshka of the Beryl Infantry Regiment. To all military, police, and civilian survivors of the current events, we're doing a last evacuation at the North Iron Plaza. Please come there if you hear this. We've lost control of this city. We must get out in order to gain revenge in the future against these rebels." Blackjack crawls forward to the radio and responds, "Hello, I'm Blackjack. I'm a soldier as well and I will go to the plaza." But as it turns out, the radio's busted since Koshka just keeps talking over Blackjack. Blackjack turns to Warfarin and tells her, "Damn it, he can't hear us. But I know where the North Iron Plaza is. It's not far from here. From there you should be able to find the other Rhodes Island members that are with you." Warfarin's red eyes looked up to Blackjack and she said, "Finally. We've made some progress. We should be going by now." "Yeah," responds Blackjack. They both head over to a closed metal door and Blackjack kicks it open. The two Sarkaz go down more alleyways towards a destroyed apartment building. On the other side of it is the evacuation site for both Rhodes and the people of Ursus.
