Chapter 17: Magical
Arc: Attack of the Villains
Constantine was getting a bit annoyed at this nonsense from Nightmare. The Brit whined "Ugh, where the hell are we goin' anyway mate? He just left us here"
Strange suggests "Well, he didn't specify, perhaps he wants us to meet with Mephisto. For what reason I do not know, just keep your guard up Constantine."
Constantine muttered a rant under his breath that Strange couldn't hear and didn't care enough to listen to. As they approached to nearby location, Mephisto popped out in front of as a bunch of smoke appeared like he was making a grand entrance.
He laughed and cheered gleefully "Finally, Nightmare has done the work I asked him and now I can get to collect the two powerful souls. Dr. Strange and John Constantine, welcome to Hell."
Constantine chuckled "Oh, well can't believe we never saw this coming..."
Strange shook his head and asked "I highly doubt Nightmare would ever work for you or let you do his bidding. So, there's something else going on isn't there, Mephisto?"
He stopped smiling and got down to business. "Yes, of course. I think you two have been knowing what's going on... but I don't you truly know how it happened or why...Of course, I don't expect that a member of Avengers and a member of the Justice League to know exactly what happened."
"And what exactly did happen? What is this "thing" you speak of?" Constantine asked as he lit a cigarette.
Mephisto paused and then talked "I don't have any evidence, but I will say this... the magical forces have been aware of this moment that occurred for quite awhile and we don't know what exactly happened, but we do know it happened... everyone knows that there were 2 universes that merged into one..."
Strange and John were weirded out for a second. "Two universes... what two universes we all know that's not possible even on a cosmic level, no one's that powerful..." Constantine stating this as a fact.
Mephisto sighed "It's a long story, but I think it should inform you two about what occurred. And you have only 24 hours."
Strange looked at Constantine and then at Mephisto. "Fine... talk, we are willing to listen."
(A/N: This entire story tells Mephisto is based on the Marvel vs Dc Story-line and the JLA/Avengers Story line) Mephisto explains "Long ago, there were two brothers that were never suppose to meet, but eventually they did and clashed. The Living Tribunal and The Spectre to prevent problems. Problems that were to occur between two earths. Those earths being Prime Earth and Earth-616. However, since the two brothers fought to manage this each universe's heroes were to challenge each other and see which would survive. Unfortunately, both survived and the one who prevented the brothers from fighting was a man from the Earth 616 and then he became a hero known as Access. The two brothers separated once and for good. However... another disturbance between those two earths occurred..."
"How so?" Constantine asked.
Mephisto continued "Your so-called Justice League and Avengers fought for their right for their universes to exist. Against a man known as Krona who used a Cosmic Egg to merge the two universes."
Strange surmised "And ever since then... the two universes have been merging and separating creating false realities for everyone..."
Constantine, being skeptical, said "Ok, this is just insane even for Doctor Strange. Who'd want to merge the universes again and again?"
"You are who is a magician and master of the Dark Arts is not believing in Cosmic Beings being forces of nature? How ironic..." Mephisto smirked at the thought.
Strange gestured them both to stop arguing and asked if there's any way to fix the problem. Mephisto pointed out that they needed certain objects in order to separate the universes.
"it might take a while for you both to get them which I bought him along." Mephisto pointed as the Spectre appeared before Constantine and Strange.
Spectre smirked "How amusing of you, Devil? You work with magicians on a sorcery level, yet you want them to help you. Why?"
Mephisto also smirked back at him "Right back at you, Spectre. It appears you wanted to see them as well. Let me guess, put them into your little quests for guidance and vengeance and justice."
Spectre retorted "Not necessarily, Devil. I came to warn them of imminent danger. Another crisis... if we were to call it that..."
Mephisto looks at Strange and Constantine "It is best if you two leave, I have a business to attend to with the Angel of Vengeance."
Constantine retorted "No way, we're gonna confront you on this even more."
Spectre however intervened "It is best you silence your tongue, Constantine. I shall return both of back to your world, in exchange I shall confront Mephisto on this."
Constantine shouted "Wait-!" in a flash, both him and Strange were back at the Sanctum.
"That damned bloody-!" Constantine growled.
Strange surmised "It was probably for the best. We have to warn the League and Avengers."
Constantine shook his head "Yeah, whatever you say mate."
