Ruth's POV:

Erik and I sat at the kitchen table, each of us silent as we read our books. Yet, my thoughts kept leaning towards Torsten and and wondering how his little outing with Kate was going.

"Are you reading that slowly or do you have something on your mind as you haven't turned the page for the last twenty minutes" Erik teased, clearly amused.

I sighed and placed my book on the table. Erik did the same and then took my hand, running his thumb up and down it.

"So out with it" he said, a grin in his voice.

I sighed again and replied "I'm just worried about Torsten."

"Torsten is strong."

"No I mean I'm worried about him and Kate. I really want this to go well for him. He's been having such a hard time, even before Magnus got here he was struggling greatly. Brita told me herself. I want it to work out. I want him to know the happiness that we know as a couple. Goodness knows he deserves to feel the love of a partner after all he's been put through in life."

"If God wants it to happen it will. You can't force love, because if it is forced it's not love to begin with."

I sighed.

"I know. You're right. I just feel like I should be able to do something, help in some way."

Erik took both my hands in his.

"We can do something. We can pray."

I grinned softly at him, once again grateful for his wisdom.

"You're right."

Just then a knock came on the door.

"Ruth! Erik! It's Torsten!" a muffled voice came from the other side of the door.

I rushed to let him in.

Once he was inside I shut the door against the cold.

"So?" I asked Torsten, eager to hear how his excursion with Kate had gone.

Torsten was silent for a moment before blurting out "I have a date tonight."

"Ahhh!" I squealed, throwing my arms around him joyfully. "Oh Torsten that's wonderful! I knew you could do it!"

"Ruth, you're squeezing me too tight" he gasped.

"Oh sorry!" I immediately released him, "I'm just so excited for you!"

"We both are" Erik added, patting Torsten on the shoulder.

"Where are you guys going to go?" I inquired.

"She said just to call her and let her know where I'd like to meet."

"Well where do you want to go?"

"I was thinking Ander's just to be safe. You can never go wrong with his food."

"I think that's a wonderful idea. After all that's where Erik and I first went to dinner together."

"How am I gonna get there though? I don't have a driver's license."

"I can take you" Erik volunteered.

"Oh wonderful she's gonna see me being driven in my brother's car like I'm a ten year old" he muttered to himself.

"You have any better ideas?" Erik inquired.

Torsten sighed.

"No I guess not."

"Trust me Torsten if she's the right one she'll understand."

"Yeah yeah I know" he murmured, before picking up the phone and telling Kate where he'd like to meet her.

"Well, it's set" he said as he hung up the phone.

"I'm sure you'll have a great time" I reassured him.

"What am I gonna wear? As I said before I'm completely clueless about this sort of thing works."

"Don't worry. Erik and I will help you pick out something."

We all headed to Torsten's room and Torsten simply sat in his chair and gazed at us while we rifled through his clothes.

"How about these?" Erik asked, holding up a ripped pair of jeans.

"No Erik, that'll just show her that he doesn't care about a good first impression."

"Oh come on Ruth, it's only a first date and besides I wore jeans when I first went out to dinner with you."

"Not ripped ones. Here I think something like this for his shirt will do nicely" I held up a rather sophisticated button down white shirt.

"No Ruth that's too fancy, it'll make him look like he's about to propose or something. We don't want her to get the wrong idea and scare her off."

After gazing at the shirt a second time, I begrudgingly had to admit he was right.

###

After a while we finally managed to find a suitable outfit for Torsten. A dark cotton shirt with jeans that were thankfully not ripped this time.

Soon it was nearing 6:00, the time for Torsten to meet Kate.

"Now remember to keep you're phone on silent and most importantly be yourself" I said, taking the liberty to give him some last minute tips due to my anxiety for this date to go well.

"Yes mom" Torsten rolled his eyes and grinned at me.

I gave him one last hug before he and Erik headed out the door towards the car.
