"I got you! I got you! Don't let go!"
William had grabbed his adoptive brother's hand at the last second. His yell had alarmed both of their parents, who rushed to help him pull the small boy's up.
From down the porch, Dim had semi experienced how an heart attack felt. Humans were big, but he was still a six year old child, a fall like that would have injured him badly.
"He put his life in danger to save ours, what a pure hearted child" Gypsy's love for kids already kicked in, no matter the size, a child was a child. Even from down there, they could hear the parents scolding Trevor for being reckless, resulting in being grounded for three days.
"He didn't told them about us, well, that makes the kid at least likeable" Slim commented.
Everyone was safe, they could return home, but there was a problem. Most of their job stuff was in the caravan, the cat had destroyed it and they couldn't work without that...
Plus, Dim wanted to check on Trevor, so he gestured all of them to fly to the window. Once the parents had left, William noticed the tiny figures behind the glass.
"Hey! Dim's back, I guess that's his family?"
As soon as the window was opened, the beetle flew to rub his horn on the child's forehead, making him giggle "I got grounded but it was worth it, I couldn't let Nina eat a friend"
He was drawn to the group of so many different insects, they were all naturally scared of him...
"I'm sorry if I took Dim and Roll away" He whispered "If I had known they had family, i would have never. I had to write a small presentation about a topic of my choice so I chose bugs"
Rosie listened to the apology, everything was clear now, the child never wanted to hurt her son and he actually took care of him.
"Gypsy, would you mind bring me up to his ear? I want to try something, and you make less noise"
The moth agreed, carefully picking the spider up by the torso and flying up to the side of the boy's head. Trevor stood still, slightly uncertain about what to do, until he heard a tiny, tiny voice echoing in his ear
"Hellooooo! Can you hear me??"
"She talks" Trevor looked at his step brother in the eyes "She's talking in my ear"
William needed to sit down a moment, soon to hear a masculine voice "We do!"
Francis was shouting into William's ear "Nice catch you did before, kid".
"And you, dear boy, took punishments for saving our lives, we're forever in debt!" The mantis added on the other ear
Boom. Mindblown.
Insects could talk.
"Miss Rosie? Can i call you like that? I'm sorry i took Dim away"
"You didn't hurt him, so it's ok!"
"I wish i was your size because you have the cutest face and you're such a good boy" Gypsy added happily.
"How did you communicate?"
"Oh, Dim knew the alphabet, so I wrote the letters and he composed words"
Rosie looked down at Dim with great pride, knowing she had taught him well and that he used that knowledge to talk with these colossal children.
Dim blinked in a corner, realizing he could have actually spoken to them before. Well, the shock and everything, he didn't know how humans worked, if they could understand him.
Rosie's smile, however, made him blush and smile at her, especially when she told him she was really proud of him.
He needed that.
So all of the bugs took turns to speak to them. Of course the two brothers were amazed by the deep masculine voice Dim had, and they didn't understand much about the gibberish Tuck and Roll spoke about.
"Yeah, yeah, that's pretty nice and all. But there's one problem."
PT jumped by himself up to William's ear, since he was the oldest and probably more reasonable
"YOUR MURDER FUZZBALL CRASHED ALL OF MY CARAVAN AND TOOLS. HOW CAN WE WORK WITHOUT OUR STUFF?!?"
William puffed up his cheeks, that was a problem. The caravan/box was torn apart outside.
He had an idea though.
"Trevor, didn't we have Casey Jr cookies in the cupboard?"
"Yeah, why?"
"Get the glue, tape and scissors"
Later on, the two kids were sitting down, tinkering with various items while all the bugs were looking down from the desk. Soon their puzzled expression turned to a marveled and happy one.
Before them was a new caravan, more circus-y themed thanks to the colourful boxes and bigger than before.
"Mr. Flea? You mind telling us what you need? We may get you stuff from around the house"
And so PT spent the next five minutes yelling in William's ear about what they needed to work, which was carefully noted and then picked up by the boys without their parents' noticing... Also they sneaked in some extra parts in case the caravan needed repairing, you never know what may happen... and a couple snacks for Heimlich which he requested with pleading eyes.
And so, about an hour later, the troupe had this amazing new caravan, and PT didn't even have to pay for anything... maybe a couple millipedes later on, but hey, compared to a double caravan with tools and everything? Pfff, he could afford them.
Well, everything was ready for real, it was indeed time to go now, the non fliers were already settled on top while everyone was waiting for the beetle to carry them outside of the window and back home.
"Come on Big Guy" called the Flea "We need your muscles to carry this thing"
"One moment" Dim buzzed up to Trevor's nose and rubbed his horn on his nose tip, then went to his ear "Thank you, you understood, Dim no forget you, ever"
Trevor giggled "You're welcome. Please come visit again if you can. Ok? I'll miss you"
Then it was William's turn to have a nose rub and then a word "Take care of each other. You two family"
William petted the beetle's head with his pinky, smiling "I will. He's my brother" and the little boy beamed with happiness in hearing that. At long last, what he needed to hear for so long.
The two brothers opened the window and witnesses Dim's amazing strength in picking up the full caravan by the handle with everyone on top and all the stuff inside, once he flied out they waved "Bye!!! Take care!" Trevor beamed "You're awesome!" William added, waving with him.
Of course they couldn't hear what the insects said, but they all saw them waving.
"You two are good kids!" Francis yelled at the top of his lungs.
"Thank you for saving us!!" Added Slim
"DANKE FOR ZHE COOKIES!" Heimlich said with his mouth full.
"Be good children! Don't have your parents worry anymore ok!" Gypsy cooed, going full Auntie mode, even for giant human children.
"Grow up into good men, my boys!" Manny added to his wife's words.
"THANK YOU!!" The twins hopped happily while waving.
"Thank you for helping my son!"
Once they were far enough, William closed the window, patting his little brother's shoulder
"I think we have some good material for your homework. Skipping the whole circus part and the fact we could understand them"
Trevor smiled brightly "Will you help me?"
"Of course, lil' brother. Come on, let's get your notebook and start writing down stuff"
"And now, ladies and gentlebugs! Our amazing acrobats will defy gravity and challenge death!"
Tuck and Roll launched themselves on the trapeze, grinning happily as they hovered in the air, doing great tricks that impressed the audience.
"But you may never know what could happen, something unexpected? Who knows!" PT announced, and then the rope snapped all of a sudden, the pill bugs fell down, no net to catch them.
"OH NO! IS IT THE END OF THE LINE?!"
Then a mighty roar could be heard as Dim buzzed out of nowhere and caught the twins on his back, before landing in the middle of the ring
"WHAT A SURPRISE! Give it up for Dim! The strongest and bravest beetle in the world, and don't forget about our beautiful Rosie, who we owe us to have him with us!"
The audience applauded while the four bugs bowed down to thank them. Rosie leaned on one side, whispering
"That was a great idea. I'm so proud of you, son, I love you"
Dim leaned into her touch, smiling as happy as he could be
"Love you too, Mom"
THE END
