Chapter 11: The Plan
Malcolm fell asleep watching Willow as Gil rubbed his back, and when he woke up, he was lying face down in bed. He rolled over almost screaming at the pain he felt across his butt from his spanking. He stared at his alarm clock it was 6 a.m. and thankfully he didn't have any nightmares that he could remember last night. He was still in his dark navy briefs and stood up walking towards his drawers to find a comfy pair of sweats. As he did, he heard a familiar voice behind him, "Oh Sunshine, good you're awake! I came to drop off clothes for you, and the credit card so you can buy yourself some food." Jess put the credit card on Malcolm's bed and his suitcase in his closet.
"Mooom! I'm not even dressed!" Malcolm felt himself blush and turn away from his mom. She scoffed, "Oh Malcolm, stop being so dramatic. Who do you think bathed you and changed your diapers?" She threw her hands up, annoyed that he couldn't even thank her for bringing his stuff. Mal was annoyed and whispered out, "The nanny." Without even thinking it through and he regretted it when he turned seeing his moms face fall. "Oh, the Nanny, she changed your diapers? She gave you baths at night. Wonderful!" Jess yelled. Now fully annoyed with Malcolm because that wasn't the truth at all. Jess had changed all the diapers, she insisted there'd be no nanny until the children were older so she could continue her efforts with her charities.
Gil set the coffee pot down when he heard yelling from Malcolm's room. He rolled his eyes; it was too early for this. He walked in seeing Jess visibly upset and Malcolm still in his briefs. She ambushed him too early, "Everything okay?" Jess looked at him furious, "Its great! Malcolm thinks a Nanny raised him apparently and I just sat back and twiddled my thumbs." Jess was upset but she took a few deep breaths and walked past Gil to the kitchen. Gil glared at Malcolm, "What happened kid?" Mal looked at Gil annoyed, "Nothing! She just went off on one of her rants and I just wanted to get dressed." Malcolm was annoyed she barged into his room and didn't respect his privacy.
Gil sighed, it was too early for all this drama, "Hey, don't yell and your mom regardless of what you think, she didn't have any nannies until you were six. She told me, and we've talked multiple times about respect, haven't we?" Mals eyes got big, and he looked sorry. "We don't need to have another talk, do we?" Mal looked down, "No Papa, I'm sorry, I'm just tired." Gil understood, he was tired himself. "You're apologizing to the wrong person kid, now get dressed. Come out and have breakfast." Gil smiled and went to find Jess. She was sitting at the small table drinking coffee, "Ugh that boy is incorrigible sometimes! A nanny!" she huffed. Gil tried not to laugh, "Oh Jess, he's a teenager, what started the fight?"
"Well apparently, how could I see him in his briefs? God forbid!" She laughed. Gil laughed with her, "He's a teen boy Jess, he's embarrassed. Don't be too hard on him." Gil was happy to hear the disagreement was over something so simple and not Mals behavior. He sympathized with the kid and didn't want to spank him so soon after last night. Gil hoped that'd be the last spanking for a long while, he didn't think his heart could handle another one. As they continued talking Mal shut his door and looked at the spanking damage. The belt left two welts and a couple small bruises where butt met thigh. He should have let Gil finish his warmup, but he was too nervous about the belt. He hated it, when his "Father" would use the belt sometimes he'd leave a lot of welts.
When Mal was eight he had pushed his friend Lonnie because he wouldn't share his candy. Malcolm asked nicely at first but when he said No, Malcolm pushed him. Jess had seen the exchange from the park bench and went over and told Malcolm to apologize. The boy refused and when Jess helped Lonnie up, he punched Jess in the arm. She was surprised but marched him home as he threw a tantrum. She put him in time out and he screamed the whole time, so she sent him to his room with the age-old line, wait till your father gets home. Malcolm swallowed the lump that had formed in his throat, because his father told him that if he ever yelled at his mom again, he'd use his belt. That he wouldn't tolerate such behavior, and Mal choked on a sob because he also had punched her.
It felt like hours, but Martin had gotten home only an hour after the incident and Jess explained to him Malcolm's outburst. Martin felt anger well up inside him and he immediately started undoing his glossy brown belt, marching upstairs to Malcolm's room. The bedroom door busted open revealing Martin and Malcolm began crying when he saw the belt. Martin roughly grabbed his arm and bent him over his own arm swinging savagely in the air. He wasn't in control of his emotions which was so unlike him, and the stinging swats burned through any protection Mals clothes could have gave him. Malcolm begged for him to stop and that he was sorry. His sobs wracked deep in his chest until his mom ran in five minutes later.
Martin had gotten in at least twenty hard swings before Jess came in. She yelled at Martin and took Malcolm into her bedroom. She cuddled with him crying as he cried, and it was a sight that broke Martins heart. As he peeled off his boys batman underwear revealing purple bruises and welts, he felt like the worst Father. His own Father would deliver these spankings to him, but he wanted to be better than him. So, he worked hard to keep in control when disciplining his boy, but this wasn't the last time he'd lose control and be too rough with Malcolm. It was the reason Jess hated spankings so much, but she trusted Gil to not be like Martin. She trusted Gil with Malcolm's life more than she ever would Martin, and it really did change Malcolm's behavior for the better.
Malcolm pulled up his briefs right as Gil walked in, and he began yelling at Gil, "Doesn't anyone knock?! This is my room, and…" He stopped himself mid rant looking at Gils displeased expression. Gil crossed his arms over his chest, "Kid, last time I checked this is our home and I don't have to knock on my own doors. So, drop the attitude please." His voice was stern, but he was okay that Mal felt angry he came in without knocking. He understood, "How's the damage looking?" He was concerned. He never wanted to hurt Mal, but he knew even with the most care sometimes welts could happen. Malcolm blushed looking down, "Just, umm, some welts and a couple small bruises. It's my fault Papa, I should have let you finish my warmup first."
Gil felt like he'd been punched, the air escaped his lungs as he felt overwhelming guilt, "Ah kid, well, we will grab you some ice and just this once some Tylenol. It's not about hurting you but disciplining you, so you'll learn a lesson. You know," Gil's voice sounded raspy and Mal was scared Gil was going to cry, so he ran to Gil hugging him. "It's okay Papa, I'm ok, and I'm really sorry. About everything, I am, and you're right. We should get a bird first, then maybe a dog." Gil laughed. His kid was so random, and even though he'd only taken his new meds for a couple days, he seemed different. He kissed the top of Malcolm's head, "I love you kid, I hope you know that."
Malcolm smiled looking up, "I love you too and Mami. Mother too, even though she likes to embarrass me." They walked out and Jess smiled. "How are you feeling Sunshine?" Malcolm mustered up a smile, "Good…" He walked over to the coffee pot pouring some coffee and even though Jess wanted to say something she didn't. Her little boy was becoming a man, and a good one despite everything. Gil sat next to Jess and Malcolm joined them. He talked about wanting a bird and joining the police like Papa, but he'd want to be a profiler so he could catch bad men like his Father…
