Prompt: A Celebration

….
As we finished decorating, we were allowed to stay for the hospital Christmas Party, which the good doctor had been promised in exchange for his help, and the invitation was extended to Mr. Holmes and myself.
How grand it was! We enjoyed ourselves immensely. I distributed some baked goods I had brought in along with the decoration; Doctor Watson signed books and told stories of his previous adventures with Mr. Holmes, and the detective himself was playing his violin most beautifully, playing between lively polkas and stirring, heartfelt melodies.
He even prompted me into a traditional Highland dance, though I insisted on just the one as my ankles aren't what they used to be! Still, my cheeks were hot, and my smile stretched from ear to ear as I concluded my performance to rapturous applause.
We danced and laughed into the night, telling stories, and singing carols under the watchful, benevolent gaze of the Christmas tree. The candles flickered gently, undisturbed by the partygoers.
The party lasted for a long time, and we had a delicious dinner of chicken and beef (it was nice not having to cook for once!). We sang more songs, told some festive ghost stories after the children were taken to their beds, and the evening wrapped up with a toast for the festive season, and the new year, followed by a beautiful rendition of 'Auld Lang Syne'.
And so, tired, stiff, but happy, we grabbed our coats and scarves, before trudging out to find a cab to take us back to Baker Street, for a hot cup of tea and our cosy beds.
