The Viciousness of Love
Chapter 1
-3:24 in the morning-
"Eren, what are you doing?!" Levi yelled at the top of his lungs, voice breaking midway. His eyes were locked onto Eren's pale figure, whose eyes glinted in the moonlight. Eren chuckled at the Captain's words.
"Can you not see it, Heichou," He said, halfway turning his head to face his superior. "I'm doing this for my squad, and…"
Levi blinked several times before responding to the bloodstained person in front of him.
"Eren…why…" He asked, voice filled with frustration and confusion. "…why would you…ever do…this?"
"Levi…" Eren tenderly said before he collapsed. Hanji dropped down in her ODM gear and quickly intervened, turning Eren on his back. She checked his pulse and his breathing, but her efforts were futile. The redhead sighed, and glanced up at her captain.
"Levi…Eren is…"
"NO! NO, HE'S NOT! Hanji…he isn't, please tell me this is a sick joke." He yells after falling to his knees in distress.
"I'm so sorry, Levi, but Eren is gone…"
"How?"
"What?"
"How...How did this happen? I received his distress signal, but when I got here, he was already beaten bloody. He was holding a knife…but..." The captain explained, confusion laced within his voice.
"There's a knife wound in his left side, and a bullet pierced his right shoulder. It looks as if it shattered his collarbone. That alone was enough to be fatal, I mean, it severed his aorta." Hanji told him as she examined Eren's injuries.
A few minutes later, Sasha, Mikasa, and Jean arrived using their ODM gear.
"Sir, the titans made it past the reinforcement troops that were stationed at the back of the formation!" Sasha informed Levi. Once she saw the situation, she gasped and quickly turned to gaze at Jean, who was too shocked to even move. Shortly after, Mikasa rushed over to Eren's side, crying as she held him in her arms.
"How the hell did this happen?! Why didn't someone help him? Surely he sent out a smoke signal asking for help." The raven-haired girl screamed, forcing everyone to step away from Eren's body. Her eyes scanned the people in front of her, and stopped when she saw Levi. Their eyes locked, and Mikasa noticed a glimmer of guilt rising in his emotions. Levi's head dropped in humiliation. Her teeth clenched, and she slowly stood up.
"So, it was you? Humanity's Strongest Midget managed to kill Eren Yeager. I thought it was your top "priority" to watch over him. Or did that promise fall through a long time ago... ANSWER ME DAMN IT!"
"Mikasa, it wasn't his doing. Eren died from a gunshot wound." Hanji interrupted, trying to dissolve the chaos before it turned deadly.
"Yeah right, he probably shot Eren as soon as he had an opening. I'm sorry for all of you people who actually believe Levi wanted to protect Eren. I mean, seriously, who tries to protect someone they previously beat up in a courtroom? It was inevitable since the beginning. He never cared about Eren's safety, he just saw him as an object that he could use to fix society's faulty wall. Well, you know what I think? To hell with your damn wall, who cares if Humanity falls at the hands of Titans?" Mikasa responded in a hatred-filled tone.
To say she was pissed would be an understatement. She wanted to tie the Captain to a tree in the middle of titan territory, listen to his screams as he's slowly ripped apart, and laugh at his dismembered corpse. But no matter how you looked at it, Humanity's Last Hope was dead, and the world was still turning. Nothing would bring him back, and as far as the citizens were concerned, Eren was just another one of the Survey Corp's failed attempts to reclaim Wall Maria.
Levi was unnerved by Mikasa's words, to the point where he even retired his position of 'Captain'. He felt it truly was his fault that Eren died that day. Granted, it had been 2 years since Eren's death, but nothing subsided the distant echoes of his voice or the sound of him humming during cleaning day. It sounds silly to most people who knew Levi. They keep telling him to get over it, to "move on", but everyone knows that it's impossible to genuinely get on with your life after an event such as that.
I know I'm terrible at writing, but I just figured I'd give it a try. This is an Ereri fic that I've been writing for a while. There's a few chapters to it, so I'll be updating more quickly. I can't promise that in the future though. Lol. Bye! I love all of my Ereri shippers out there. ;)
