Hello and welcome to chapter 3 of The Slayer's Weird Backup. In the last chapter, Naruto and his fellow Konoha shinobi entered Sunnydale and were introduced to Buffy, Giles, and several of Buffy's new friends. As you can see, I ended up cutting the episode "Welcome to the Hellmouth" in half with the last chapter being the first half of the episode while also intergrading the Naruto characters into the plot. Now, here's the other half of the episode and here, we'll see the Naruto characters intergrading into the plot even more. Be warned though that the plot of this chapter will focus mostly on Naruto and Buffy so don't expect too much of the other Naruto characters just yet. Now without further ado, here's chapter 3.
Chapter 3:
At the campus after school, Naruto was with Buffy as she walked out of the campus. The school day was over and Buffy just wanted to get home and cool off from today's events. However, she still needed to take care of something first.
"Hey, Naruto," said Buffy.
"Yeah," said Naruto.
"Thanks for standing up for me," Buffy thanked. "You did me a solid. But now you and your ninja friends need to leave and never come back here."
Naruto was a bit baffled. "You knew all along?"
Buffy sighed before answering, "The way you guys were talking and the way you were acting, you think I wouldn't notice any of that? I know about the prophecy and that you guys are from another world, a world where ninja are still prevalent when in Japan, it's not like that anymore. So why don't you all go back home and just leave me alone?"
"Look, Buffy, I don't like this any better than you do," Naruto replied. "You're not the first girl I've met who doesn't want anything to do with her duties."
"Yeah, well I hope I'm the last," said Buffy as she tried to walk away.
Naruto followed much to her annoyance.
"Why are you following me," Buffy asked.
"Because it's my job," Naruto answered. "You are the slayer and you slay vampires. From what I've heard, you've already accepted your duties and you've slain these guys before."
"Yeah, and I've been there and done that, and I'm moving on," Buffy replied.
"Okay then, but if your mother becomes their next victim, don't blame me," said Naruto.
"Hey, I know," said Buffy, trying to get the subject off her back. "Why don't you guys kill them? You have your ninja skills and whatnot."
"Believe me if we could, we'd be glad to take your place," Naruto answered. "But we don't belong in this world and we have problems going on back home that need our attention. But this world is your home, so you have to protect it."
"And what, get kicked out of school," Buffy argued. "Lose all my friends? Spend all of my time fighting for my life and never getting to tell anyone because I might endanger them?"
Naruto had no answer.
"You don't know what that's like," said Buffy. "You don't know what it's like to have some big secret that you can't tell anyone because it might put their lives in danger!"
"Yes I do," Naruto answered, knowing all too well what it was like from his experience as a Jinchuriki. "That used to be every day of my life."
Naruto's answer surprised Buffy.
"But like I said before, we all have our own paths to follow and we choose our own destiny," said Naruto. "The choice is yours and yours alone, Buffy. But whatever choice you make, you have to live with the consequences."
Naruto then walked away, leaving Buffy alone to think about what he said. Buffy then walked to the bus and made her way back home.
Back in the library, Giles explained something to the other shinobi, something that he wasn't able to tell Buffy before she left.
"So let me get this straight," said Shikamaru. "You're saying that Buffy has a unique kekkei genkai that allows her to copy any jutsu just by watching it only once?"
"More or less," Giles answered. "It's known as the Mohōgan, or Imitation Eye, and it allows her to copy even kekkei genkai abilities."
"That sounds a little too overly powerful, don't you think," Kiba questioned.
"And how is it that she had chakra in the first place," Ino questioned. "I heard that the Sage of Six Paths gave chakra to our world after he defeated the Ten-Tails."
"You're not wrong," Giles explained. "However there are things you do not know about the Sage of Six Paths. From what I read, the Sage of Six Paths saved your world from a genjutsu that put every living creature to sleep. However, your world wasn't the only one affected by this power, so was ours, and the Sage of Six Paths was able to share chakra with the people of this world as well."
"So, what does any of this have to do with Buffy," Choji questioned.
"I'll have to explain that later when she returns," Giles answered. "For now, it's best that you all get some rest. I've already set up apartment rooms for all of you to stay in."
Giles then gave the shinobi the coordinates to the apartment they would be staying at and all the shinobi made their way towards the building.
Later that night, Buffy was at her home, preparing to go out somewhere. However, she looked like she was having trouble trying to decide what to wear.
"Hi, I'm an enormous slut," she said as she held up a dress she believed only a slut would wear before picking up another dress. "Hello, would you like a copy of the watchtower?"
Buffy then brought down the dress before expressing, "I used to be so good at this."
Just then Buffy's mother came into the room. "Hi, Hon."
"Hey," Buffy greeted her mother.
"Are you going out tonight," Buffy's mother asked, noticing the clothing Buffy had been looking at.
"Yeah, I'm going to a club," Buffy told her.
"Oh, will there be boys there," Buffy's mother asked, becoming a bit nosey.
Buffy answered, "No, Mom, it's a nun club."
Buffy's mother wasn't buying it too much. "Well, just be careful."
"I will," said Buffy.
Buffy's mother then said, "You know, I think we can make it work here. I've got my positive energy flowing, I'm gonna get the gallery on its feet. Oh, uh, we may have found a space today."
"That's great," said Buffy as she continued to look through her closet.
"Oh, and that school is a very nurturing environment, which is just what you need," said Buffy's mother.
But Buffy knew that her mother didn't know about the new "transfer students" that had arrived or of Giles. "Well, actually…"
Before Buffy could explain, her mother continued, "Oh, not too nurturing. I know. You're 16. I've read all about the dangers of over-nurturing. It's hard, new town and everything. It is for me too."
From outside, a certain ninja was eaves dropping on their conversation.
"I'm trying to make it work," said Buffy's mother. "I'm going to make it work."
"I know," said Buffy.
"Oh, you're a good girl, Buffy," said her mother. "You just fell in with the wrong crowd. But that is all behind us now."
"It is," Buffy agreed. "From now on, I'm only going to hang out with the living—I mean, lively… people."
"Okay," said her mother as Buffy walked out of her room. "You have fun."
A short time later, Buffy was walking down the street to her destination. However, two individuals were following her. One of them was hiding in the trees above, hoping quietly from one tree to the next. The other was just walked about 10 meters behind her. It didn't take long for Buffy to realize either of their presences, but decided to play along. She walked from one tree to the next, stopping at every tree she came too, and walking a little faster each time.
Finally, after realizing who one of them was, she picked up a small stone and threw it at the one in the tree. The moment that rock hit the one in the tree, it fell down, revealing itself to be Naruto, who's stealth skills were a bit lacking.
Naruto then got back on his feet, dashed towards Buffy and berated, "What the heck did you do that for?!"
"That's what I want to ask you," said Buffy sternly. "Just why are you following me? Are you some kind of stalker or something?"
"What do you mean," Naruto questioned back. "I'm following you because I'm one of your body guards. It's my job."
"I thought I told you, I don't slay vampires anymore," Buffy complained. "I've been there and done that, and I'm moving on. Don't make me repeat myself again."
"I'm not the only one being forced to repeat myself here," Naruto huffed. "Fact is, even if you are retired, the vampires will still hunt you down and it's only a matter of time before they find you."
"Let me worry about that," Buffy complained as she started walking away.
But Naruto, determined to carry out his mission, followed her. Naturally, Buffy tried to lose him by walking faster, but the blonde ninja kept pace with her. The walking became faster and faster until it turned to running. But as hard as the slayer tried, she could not shake the Nine-Tails Jinchuriki.
Finally, Buffy stopped in an ally way and turned towards Naruto before yelling, "STOP FOLLOWING ME…!"
"SORRY, BUT I CAN'T," Naruto yelled back. "I'M YOUR BODYGUARD WHETHER EITHER OF US LIKES IT OR NOT…!"
Suddenly some random girl came walking by and teased, "You two sound just like an old married couple."
Naruto and Buffy didn't like that and both yelled, "WE'RE NOT A COUPLE…!"
Suddenly, Buffy noticed something and realized Naruto wasn't the only one following her.
"Huh, what is it," Naruto asked.
"Shush, quiet," Buffy whispered while covering Naruto's mouth.
The two then ducked away into the shadows.
Moments later, someone entered the ally and walked through. But as he walked through, he noticed that something was off and continued to walk through cautiously. Unbeknownst to him, Buffy was on a poll right about him, standing on her hands while Naruto was on top of her, standing on her feet (much to her annoyance).
Moments later, Naruto jumped off and Buffy swung down and knocked down the mysterious stranger. The stranger fell on his back and the Slayer put her foot on his chest to keep him from getting back up.
"Is there a problem, Ma'am," said the stranger.
"Yeah, there's a problem," Buffy confirmed. "Why are you following me?"
"I know what you're thinking, but don't worry," said the stranger. "I don't bite."
Naruto jumped into view and said, "But I'll bet, you bark."
Buffy just rolled her eyes at that comment as she got off the stranger.
The stranger then explained, "The truth is, I thought you'd be taller, or bigger muscles and all that. And I didn't expect you to have a boyfriend."
Naruto and Buffy both blushed upon hearing this and replied, "He's/I'm not my/her boyfriend!"
"Whatever," said the stranger. "You're pretty spry though."
"What do you want," Buffy questioned.
"The same thing you do," said the stranger.
"Okay," said Buffy, playing along. "What do I want?"
The stranger then got closer and answered, "To kill 'em, to kill 'em all."
But Buffy still wasn't interested and replied, "Sorry, that's incorrect. But you do get this lovely watch and a year's supply of turtle wax. What I want is to be left alone!"
"But do you really thing that's an option anymore," said the stranger. "You're standing at the mouth of hell, and it's about to open."
This caught Buffy and Naruto's attention.
"What is he talking about," Naruto thought.
"Don't turn your back on this," the stranger tossed something to Buffy and Naruto. "You've got to be ready, and so do your guardians."
"What for," said Buffy.
"For the harvest," said the stranger.
But Naruto had had enough and asked, "Okay buddy, who are you and how do you know so much?"
"Let's just say… I'm a friend," said the stranger as he began walking away.
"Yeah, well maybe I don't want a friend," said Buffy.
"I didn't say I was yours," said the stranger.
"And yet, you didn't say you weren't either," Naruto pointed out.
"Good point," the stranger then walked away, leaving Buffy and Naruto to look at what he gave them.
Buffy and Naruto then looked and saw that they were both given Christian Cross necklaces. Buffy recognized them, but Naruto was unfamiliar.
"What is this," Naruto asked, looking at his cross.
"It's called a Christian Cross," Buffy answered. "It's believed that they are used to ward off vampires and other unholy creatures like demons. If you want my advice, I'd suggest you wear that thing on you at all times when you're out at night while you're here."
Naruto wasn't too sure as this was completely new to him, but he decided to take Buffy's word for it. He placed the Christain Cross necklace around his neck just over the First Hokage's necklace and the two walked off.
Not far away, Team Kurenai was tracking the two from a distance, Kiba and Akamaru with their sense of smell, Shino with his insects, and Hinata with her Byakugan.
"Hinata, what did that guy give them," Kiba questioned. "All I could smell was some sort of piece of metal."
"It looked like some sort of necklace," Hinata answered. "I think it was the same kind Giles gave the rest of us earlier."
"Oh, you mean these Christian Crosses," Shino looked at his cross. "I guess it makes sense that Naruto wouldn't have one since he ran outside with the slayer when she left the library. Although, it boggles me that Giles didn't give his cross to us so we could give it him personally."
"Ah, who cares how he got it," said Kiba. "The important thing is that he has one and he'll need it to protect himself."
Hinata watched on, feeling a bit worried.
"Hinata, are you okay," Shino asked.
"Oh, don't worry about me," Hinata brushed it off. "Anyway, we better keep an eye on them."
The three then followed Naruto and Buffy as they made their way elsewhere.
Elsewhere, Team Guy was in their new apartment room, watching a relatively new anime show known as Dragon Ball Z. Rock Lee and Might Guy seemed to be more into it than Neji and Tenten, who preferred another popular anime called Sailor Moon.
"Kamehameha," Lee imitated.
"That's it Lee," said Guy. "Maybe one day, we'll be able to master a technique like that, because we have the power of youth…!"
"Yeah," said Lee.
"Oh give me a break," Neji shook his head.
"And this is why I prefer Sailor Moon," Tenten sighed. "And don't even think about calling me "Meatball Head"…!"
"Don't worry Tenten," said Lee defensively. "We wouldn't even think about calling you Meatball Head…!"
Tenten kicked Lee in the crotch before he had a chance to react. This action caused Guy to gasp and made Neji snicker.
"You just did," Tenten pointed out.
Suddenly, Kakashi came barging into their apartment and told them, "Alright, I think that's enough. You're all shinobi, so start acting like it."
"I always act like that, Kakashi," Guy made one of his characteristic poses. "Along with my training regiment in order to defeat you."
But Kakashi's only answer was, "I'm sorry, did you say something?"
"DAMN IT, KAKASHI," Guy screamed. "WHY DO YOU HAVE TO BE SOO COOL…!"
The cry echoed throughout the Neighborhood, causing a few car alarms to go off. This amused Neji and Tenten.
"Right," said Kakashi. "Anyway, I just got word from Kurenai's team. They're tracking Naruto and the slayer right now and if anything unusual happens, they'll notify us right away."
"I just hope Lady Hinata will be alright," said Neji with concern.
"I'm sure she'll be okay, Neji," Tenten reassured her teammate, understanding right away that he hadn't gotten over what he did in the past.
"In any case, where will we be training," said Guy.
"I seem to recall Giles mentioning some abandoned rock quarry on the outskirts of Sunnydale," said Kakashi. "We can use those for training."
Meanwhile, Naruto and Buffy had arrived at what appeared to be a dance party or a night club. Buffy was familiar with these types of places, but Naruto was completely stumped, so Buffy advised him to stay close ant not to wonder off, much to Naruto's annoyance. Upon entering, the place, Naruto was astonished by what he saw. There were people playing games like pool, people smoking and/or drinking, people listening to music he was unfamiliar with, and so much more. But what caught the blonde shinobi's attention more than anything else was a band of singers singing their hearts out to the people listening to them.
"What is this place," Naruto asked.
"I think my friends called it the Bronze," Buffy answered.
"Wow, so cool," Naruto admitted with enthusiasm.
While her blonde guardian was distracted, Buffy noticed Willow sitting at the stands and walked up to her, leaving her guardian behind.
"Hey," Buffy called to her friend.
"Oh, hi," said Willow.
"Hi," said Buffy. "Oh, are you here with someone?"
"No, I'm just here," said Willow. "I thought Xander was going to show up."
"Oh, are you guys going out," Buffy asked.
"No, we're just friends," said Willow. "We used to go out, but we broke up."
"How come," said Buffy.
"He stole my Barbie," was Willow's answered at first, confusing Buffy until she explained, "Oh, we were five."
"Oh," said Buffy as she got a drink.
"I don't actually date a whole lot… lately," said Willow, now feeling a bit uncertain.
Buffy was curious. "Why not?"
Willow answered, "Well, when I'm with a boy I like, it's hard for me to say anything cool or witty or at all. I—I can usually make a few vowel sounds, and then I have to go away."
Buffy scuffed at Willow's explanation. "It's not that bad."
"No, it is," Willow protested. "I think boys are more interested in a girl who can talk."
"Is that what you think," said Naruto, letting the two know that he was there.
"What are you doing here," said Buffy, not liking the fact that he interrupted their girl talk.
"It's called guarding," Naruto told Buffy before turning his attention to Willow. "Look, you're generalizing. Every guy I know has a different taste in what they want in girls. Maybe I don't know much about romance or anything like that, but different boys like different types of girls and vice versa. At least, that's how I see it."
"I'm sure it's easy for you to get a girl," Willow rolled her eyes. "After all… Naruto was it? You seems to be very handsome and I'm sure you're a heartbreaker."
"Not really," Naruto answered. "I used to be the class prankster and all the other girls at my school went after another guy."
"No way," said Willow in disbelief. "You… were a class prankster?"
Before Naruto could explain further, Buffy decided that she had taken enough as she pushed Naruto aside and spoke out, "Hey, do you want to hear my philosophy? Life is short. Not original, I'll grant you, but it's true. You know, why waste time being all shy and worried about some guy and if he's going to laugh at you? Seize the moment 'cause tomorrow you might be dead."
"Oh, that's nice," said Willow.
"Accept for the part where you pushed me out of the way, you know," Naruto grunted.
Suddenly Buffy noticed something.
"Um, I'll be back in a minute," Buffy then got up off her chair and walked away.
"Oh, that's ok," said Willow. "You don't have to come back."
But Buffy didn't think it was funny. "I'll be back in a minute."
Buffy then walked off.
"We'll both be back in a minute," Naruto followed her.
"Seize the moment," Willow repeated Buffy's words.
Outside, Team Kurenai had heard their conversation, especially Hinata, who realized what Buffy was talking about. If she wanted to have her moment with Naruto, she had to seize the moment and not waste her time being shy.
"Seize the moment," Hinata repeated Buffy's words.
Inside, Naruto and Buffy walked through the night club, up some stares and found, no one else by Giles, who was also hanging out at said night club.
"So, you like to party with students," said Buffy, getting his attention. "Isn't that kind of skanky?"
"Uh, right," said Giles. "This is me having fun. Watching clown hair prance about is hardly my idea of a party. I'd much rather be at home with a cup of Bovril and a good book."
"You need a personality, stat," Buffy pointed out.
"This is a perfect breeding ground for vampire activity," said Giles. "It's dark, it's crowded… Besides, I knew you were likely to show up, and I have to make you understand."
"That the harvest is coming, I know," said Buffy. "Your friend told me. That's why you had Blondie here tail me when I left my house, isn't it?"
"Excuse me," Naruto groaned.
"What did you say," said Giles, confused.
"The harvest," said Buffy, ignoring Naruto's groan for the moment. "Does that mean something to you? Because I'm drawing a blank…"
"I'm not sure," said Giles. "Who—Who told you this?"
"I can answer that," Naruto replied. "There was this guy who came at us out of nowhere and told us. He seemed to know a bit for a "normal-looking" individual."
"Did he say anything else," said Giles.
"Something about the Mouth of Hell," said Buffy. "I really didn't like him."
"I still don't get any of this," Naruto sighed.
"I doubt you ever will, you stalker," said Buffy, rather rudely.
"Stalker," Naruto gasped. "What do you mean by that?"
"Well, let's do a head count," said Buffy. "You followed me when I left my house, you interrupted my girls' talk with Willow down there, and you followed me up here!"
"I'm not stalking you," Naruto defended himself. "It's called guarding."
"Call it whatever you want," Buffy scuffed at the idea. "You're still stalking me, even now."
Naruto didn't like that comment and growled.
"Look at them, throwing themselves about, completely unaware of the danger that surrounds them," Giles gestured towards the people down below, changing the subject.
"Lucky them," said Buffy.
"Or perhaps you're right," said Giles. "Perhaps there is no trouble coming. The signs could be wrong. It's not as though you've been having the nightmares."
"Just because we don't see trouble coming doesn't mean it isn't there," Naruto pointed out. "A ninja must see through deception. That's what Kakashi Sensei taught me on my first day as a ninja."
Down below, Cordelia was talking to some of her friends. "My mom doesn't even get out of bed anymore, and the doctor says it's Epstein-Barr. I'm like "Please, it's chronic hepatitis, or at least chronic fatigue syndrome". I mean, nobody cool has Epstein-Barr anymore."
"Hey, Cordelia," said a guy's voice.
Cordelia wasn't too enthusiastic and said, "Oh, yay, it's my stalker."
"Hey you—you look great," said the guy who turned out to be Jesse.
"Well, I'm glad we had this little chat," said Cordelia.
"Listen, uh, you know, you want to dance, you know," said Jesse.
"With you," Cordelia questioned, clearly showing no interest.
"Well, uh, yeah," said Jesse.
"Well, uh, no," said Cordelia. "Come on, guys."
Cordelia and her friends then walked away.
"Fine," said Jesse. "Plenty other fish in the sea. Oh, yeah, I'm on the prowl. Witness me prowling."
Upstairs, Buffy was trying to explain herself to Giles.
"I didn't say I'd never slay another vampire," said Buffy. "It's not like I have all these fluffy buny feelings for them. I'm just not going to get way extracurricular with it. You know, it I see one sure-"
"Will you be ready," said Giles. "There's so much you don't know about them, about your own powers. A vampire appears to a completely normal person, until the feed is upon them. Only then do they reveal their true demonic visage."
But Buffy wasn't too enthusiastic about this. "You're like a textbook with arms. I know this. Or was all this information directed at blondie over here?"
"My name is Naruto," Naruto groaned.
"Whatever," said Buffy, not caring about Naruto's name.
"The point is, a slayer should be able to see them anyway, without looking, without thinking," Giles explained. "Well, can you tell me if there's a vampire in this building?"
"Maybe," said Buffy.
"I can see where this is going," Naruto walked away for a drink.
"You should know," said Giles. "Even through this mass and this din you should be able to sense them. Well try. Reach out with your mind. You have to hone your senses, focus until the energy washes over you, till you—you feel every particle of—"
"There's one," Buffy pointed towards one individual bellow.
"Where," Giles looks around.
"Right there, talking to that girl," Buffy points towards a guy talking to a girl.
Giles didn't believe her, thinking she was just trying to shut him up, "You don't know—"
"Oh, please," said Buffy. "Look at his jacket. He's got the sleeves rolled up, and the shirt? Deal with that outfit for a moment."
"It's dated," said Giles.
"It's carbon dated," Buffy corrected him. "Trust me, only someone living underground for 10 years would think that was still the look."
"But you didn't…hone," said Giles.
Naruto reappeared with some drinks. "Hey guys, I got some drinks."
But then Naruto noticed that they looked serious. "What's going on?"
"Where did you get the money for that," Buffy questioned.
"Giles gave all of us money so we could pay for things we needed while we were here," Naruto answered.
Suddenly, Buffy noticed something. "Oh, no…!"
"What is it," Naruto asked before noticing who was talking to the "vampire" Buffy pointed out.
"Willow," Buffy gasped.
"What's she doing," Giles asked.
Buffy sighed as she realized what was going on. "Seizing the moment."
"Well, we better get down there fast," said Naruto as he climbed up on the rail.
"What are you doing," Buffy questioned.
"I'm about to jump down," Naruto answered.
"What, you can't do that," Buffy told him.
But Naruto ignored her and jumped down anyway, landing on the ground without injuring himself, much to Buffy's disbelief. Naruto then radioed Team Kurenai about the situation, and they in turn, radioed the others.
Knowing that they couldn't wait for reinforcements to arrive, the two blondes mad their way into the area where Willow went into with the vampire. Walking passed a chair or a stool that was upside down, Buffy broke one of the legs to make a makeshift stake in case a vampire tried to attack her. Naruto did the same, though only because he saw Buffy doing it. The two then walked around looking for Willow, but because of how dark it was, it was hard to see.
"I've got an idea," Naruto told Buffy. "I'll use Shadow Clones to increase our…"
"Whatever you're going to do, just do it," Buffy interrupted Naruto, clearly not in the mood for explanations.
"SHADOW CLONE JUTSU…!"
Naruto activated his Shadow Clone Jutsu, creating multiple clones of himself all at once, much to Buffy's surprise.
"Since when can anyone create clones of themselves just like that," Buffy questioned before remembering Willow, "oh never mind, just send them to search for Willow."
Naruto did just that and his clones, all armed with their stakes, scouted the area in search of Willow and the vampire. As the clones looked around, the original Naruto explained to Buffy how the technique works and what its benefits were. While Buffy raised her eyebrow, she was willing to admit that the technique was cool and mentioned how she wish she could do it.
"I should warn you, Buffy," said Naruto. "The Shadow Clone Jutsu also comes with a side effect. All that cumulative knowledge also comes with cumulative fatigue, so you'll tire a lot faster."
"That doesn't sound like a benefit," Buffy acknowledged.
Suddenly the two heard a scream as Naruto felt one of his clones disappear. But before Naruto could tell Buffy the situation, the slayer had already ran towards the scene. Dispelling the clone jutsu, Naruto ran after her. Buffy soon arrived on the scene with her stake at the ready, only to be surprised to see who was screaming.
"Cordelia," Buffy gasped.
Cordelia, still in shock from seeing a Naruto clone disappear into smoke and from seeing Buffy looking like she was ready to stab her with the stake, questioned, "God! What is your childhood trauma?"
Naruto arrived and saw that Cordelia wasn't alone.
"Have you guys seen Willow," said Buffy. "Did she come by here?"
"Why, do you need to attack her with a stick," Cordelia questioned before turning her attention to Naruto. "And you…! You appeared right in front of us only to disappear in an instant in a cloud of smoke! What was that about?"
"Smoke and mirrors," Naruto told her. "That's all you need to know. Now if you'll excuse us, we need to find Willow."
Naruto and Buffy then left the scene.
"Excuse me, I have to all everyone I have ever met right now," said Cordelia, taking out her phone.
Outside, Teams Kakashi, Kurenai, Asuma, and Guy arrived on the scene and made their way into the building.
Inside, Giles noticed Naruto and Buffy walking through the party. "That was quick. Well done. I need to go to the library. This harvest thing is—"
"We didn't find them," Naruto explained.
"The Vampire is not dead," said Giles, looking concerned.
"No, but my social life is on the critical list," said Buffy, not looking too pleased with the situation.
"So what'll we do," said Giles.
Before Naruto could explain, Buffy told them, "I'll take care of it."
"I—I need to come with you, yes," said Giles.
"Don't worry," said Buffy. "On vampire I can handle."
"And what if it's not just the one," Naruto questioned.
"Like I said, don't worry," said Buffy. "I'll cross that bridge when I come to it."
Buffy started walking away.
"She's going to get herself killed," Naruto said the Giles.
As Buffy made her way out, she walked passed Jesse who was talking to a mysterious girl, "So, uh, what did you say your name was?"
"Darla," said the girl.
"Darla," Jesse repeated. "You know, I haven't seen you around before. Are you from around here?"
Darla answered, "No, but I have family here."
Jesse was intrigued, "Have I met them?"
Darla's only answer was, "You probably will."
Meanwhile, Naruto was reunited with the others and, along with Giles, was explaining the situation to them.
"That fool," said Kiba. "I can't believe she went off on her own."
"I think we're the fools here Kiba," said Shino. "Why, because we didn't lift a finger to stop her when we could have."
"Do you always have to kill the mood, Shino," Kiba sighed.
"But he does have point," said Tenten pointed out. "We're her bodyguards and we should have stopped her when we had the chance."
"I'm going after her," said Naruto. "I was the one directly guarding her, so I should be the one to find her."
"I'm going too," said Hinata.
"What about that girl, Willow," said Kiba.
In the underground cavern, the mysterious people were preparing for their "special" event. The individual from before watched as another, higher ranking individual slowly arose from what appeared to be a pool of blood. Once this individual emerged, he walked out and got a good look at his new surroundings as the first individual got down on his knees and kissed his hand.
"Master," said the first individual.
"I am weak," said the master.
"Come the harvest, you will be restored," said the individual.
"The harvest," said the sleeper.
"We're almost there," said the servant. "Soon you'll be free.
The sleeper then waved his hand and saw that he was trapped inside an invisible barrier. "I must be ready. I need my strength."
"I've sent your servants to bring you some food," said the servant.
"Good," said the sleeper. "Luke—"
"Yes," said Luke.
"Bring me something…young," said the sleeper.
Meanwhile, Willow was walking through the park with the guy she was with the guy Buffy identified as a vampire earlier. While she was seizing her moment, she was completely unaware of the danger she was currently in.
"Sure is dark," said Willow.
"It's night," said the guy.
"Well, that's a dark time, night," Willow acknowledged. "Traditionally… I still can't believe I've never seen you at school. Do you have Mr. Chomsky for history?"
But the guy gave no answer and began walking in a different direction from where they were "originally" going.
"Uh, the ice cream bar is this way," Willow pointed out. "It's past Hamilton Street."
"I know a shortcut," the guy took Willow's hand and began walking in his direction once again, taking Willow through Sunnydale Cemetery.
Unbeknownst to him, one of Shino's beetles was lying in wait and gave off a scent, signaling where Willow was.
Back at the night club, Buffy was looking for her friend when she ran into Xander.
"Hey, you're leaving already," said Xander.
"Oh Xander," said Buffy. "Have you seen Willow?"
"Not tonight, no," said Xander.
"She left with a guy," Buffy explained, leaving Xander baffled.
"We're talking about Willow, right," said Xander. "Scoring at the Bronze. Work it up, girl—"
"I need to find her," said Buffy. "Where would he take her?"
"Why," said Xander before saying, "Oh, hey, I hope he's not a vampire or one of those ninja guys you were hanging out with earlier today. If he's a vampire, then you might have to slay him and if he's a ninja…"
A voice sprang out.
"Then what, she's going to have to annoy us until we leave her alone?"
The two friends looked and saw Naruto and team Kurenai in tow.
"What are you guys doing here," Buffy sighed upon noticing her bodyguards. "And was there a school bulletin? Was it in the newspaper? Is there anyone in this town who doesn't know I'm the slayer?"
"We'll have time for that later," said Kiba. "We've located your friend."
"You have, how," Buffy questioned.
Shino then explained. "When each person left the night club, I placed a small beetle on them, a female each. She releases a smell that only the male of the species can detect and he has a highly developed sense of smell. With that, I'm able to track down anyone at any time."
Buffy and Xander were completely weirded out.
"You really have to kill the mood, Shino," Kiba complained.
"We'll talk about that later," Naruto pointed out. "Right now, we need to locate Willow."
"You're right," said Buffy. "Just tell me where did Willow go? If we don't find her, and there's going to be one more dead body in the morning."
Meanwhile, as they walked through the cemetery, Willow was starting to freak out. "O-Ok, this is nice… and scary. Are you sure this is faster?"
But the boy simply said, "Hey, you ever been in one of these?"
"No," said Willow.
The boy then walked up to door that led to an underground burial chamber and opened it up.
"Thank you," said Willow, though she was a bit nervous as to what kind of situation she had gotten herself into.
"Come on," said the guy as he tried to charm her. "What are you afraid of?"
Before Willow could answer, the guy threw her into the underground burial chamber.
"That wasn't funny," said Willow.
The guy then walked up to Willow, looking and moving more like a stalker or a predator or whatever and Willow suddenly realized something wasn't right.
"Uh, I think I'm going to go," said Willow.
"Is that what you think," said the guy.
Willow attempted to flee to the doorway only to be met by Darla.
"Is this the best you could do," said Darla.
"She's fresh," said the guy.
"Hardly enough to share," said Darla. "And I was so looking forward to the test of those new arrivals I've heard about."
"Why didn't you bring your own," said her partner.
"I did," Darla countered.
Suddenly, Willow noticed Jesse enter the room with his left hand covering the right side of his neck. Next thing she knew, Jesse fell to the ground, not feeling too well and having experienced something he could only describe as a hickey. Darla's partner looked at her, wondering what happened.
"What, I got hungry along the way," Darla explained.
"Jesse, let's get out of here," Willow tried to help Jesse up.
But Darla had other ideas. "Oh, you're not going anywhere."
The two walked up to them, looking hungry.
"Leave us alone," Willow demanded.
"You're not going anywhere until we've fed," Darla revealed herself as a vampire, terrifying Willow.
But just as they were about to feed, they found themselves unable to move.
"What's going on," Darla questioned.
"I can't move," said her partner.
Willow looked behind the two and saw Shikamaru at the doorway, having trapped the two with his Shadow Possession Jutsu and Shadow Strangle Jutsu.
"And here I thought I was going to get the night off," Shikamaru sighed.
"Who the hell are you," Darla questioned.
"That's for me to know and you to find out," Shikamaru answered.
"You can't hold us down forever," said Darla's partner.
Just then, Ino stepped in and replied, "He doesn't have to."
Ino then preformed one of her clan's signature jutsu.
"MIND DESTRUCTION JUTSU…!"
Using the Mind Destruction Jutsu, Ino made Darla suddenly attack her partner, providing Willow and Jesse just enough time to get out. Naruto and Buffy helped out.
Once outside, Ino got to work on healing Jesse while Shikamaru explained how that was possible without going too deeply to Willow.
"How long before that wears off," Naruto questioned.
"I've never used the Mind Destruction on a vampire before, so I don't know," Ino answered.
Suddenly, Hinata noticed something. "The girl is back to normal and the two are coming out!"
"Alright, get ready," Shikamaru ordered as he and the others got their new ninja tools ready, all of them either made of silver or stained with garlic.
The two vampires emerged from the tomb and gazed upon the shinobi and the slayer.
"Who are you," Darla questioned.
"Don't make me repeat myself," Shikamaru replied.
"We're not talking to you," said Darla's partner.
"You mean there's actually somebody in this town who doesn't know already," Buffy asked sarcastically. "Phew, that's a relief. I'm telling you—having a secret identity in this town is a job of work."
"I don't think this is the time for that right now," Naruto pointed out.
"Oh shut up," said Buffy. "First of all, what's with the outfit? Live in the now, ok? You look like Debarge."
"What or who is Debarge," Naruto asked, getting the attention of Buffy and her friends.
"I'll catch you up later," Buffy sighed before turning back to the vampires. "Now, we can do this the hard way or… Well, actually, there's just the hard way."
"That's fine with me," said Darla.
"Are you sure," said Buffy. "Now this is not going to be pretty, especially with these ninja weirdos around me. We're talking violence, strong language, adult content."
Darla's partner attempted to attack, but before he could do so, he suddenly felt a strange sensation inside of him.
"What's wrong," Darla questioned.
"I don't know," her partner answered. "I feel like there's something inside of me!"
Before he could explain further, Buffy took the opportunity to stab him with a wooden stake, turning him into dust.
"You see what happens when you roughhouse," Buffy questioned Darla.
"He was young and stupid," Darla tried to make herself seem superior.
"And you're not," Naruto questioned.
Darla then attacked, but Naruto counter attacked.
"RASENGAN…!"
Naruto struck Darla with his Rasengan, sending the vampire flying into a tombstone. Being undead, she recovered relatively quickly, but before she could attack again, Buffy's eyes suddenly changed. It was only for a brief moment, but she was able to "memorize" Naruto's attack. Moments later, Buffy charged at her with her own Rasengan. However, unlike Naruto's, hers was unstable and burst before it even touched Darla, something she took advantage of and attacked.
Buffy was pinned to the ground and her take was knocked out of her hand before she could stab Darla with it.
"My how the tables of turned," Darla smiled.
"In more ways than one," said Buffy from behind, catching the vampire off guard.
Next thing Darla knew, the Buffy who was under her disappeared in a puff of smoke and she saw at least three Buffys surrounding her.
"How is this possible," Darla gasped.
"You have no idea what's possible," all three Buffys told her as they all took out a wooden stake.
Before any of the Buffys could stab her, Darla fell into a hole and the Buffys disappeared as Shino appeared above the hole.
"Well, look what the beetle dragged in," said Shino. "Did you know that insects feed upon the flesh of corpses? I've prepared some specialized beetles that will devour vampire flesh."
"And what, bug boy," said Darla. "You're going to take them out of some box to attack me?"
"Is my presence that hard to notice," Shino questioned.
Darla then looked at the walls of the hole and realized it was surrounded by flesh-eating scarab beetles that Shino had prepared for her. Before she could react, these beetles swarmed around her and began eating her from the inside out. But just as they started to dig in, Luke showed up and knocked Shino away, causing the insects to disappear. Luke then picked up Darla by the throat, not looking too pleased with what has been going on.
"You were supposed to be bringing an offering for the master," said Luke. "We're almost at harvest, and you dally with these children?"
"We had someone, but then they came," said Darla defensively. "The school girl killed Thomas and has been displaying abilities I've never seen before. Luke, she's strong, and so are they."
Luke looked at his opponents, not looking all-that impressed. "You go. I'll see if I can handle these children."
"We'll see about that," Naruto armed himself and prepared for battle.
Luke then charged at the group and in response, Naruto and Buffy charged at Luke.
And that was chapter 3. Yeah, as you can see, I ended this chapter on yet another cliff hanger. Now some of you are wondering, "will this be a reoccuring thing throughout this fanfiction?" And my answer is just to wait and see as we go on. Like I said, Naruto and Buffy were the ones who got the most focus in this chapter while the others were just sort of there, but still got some development, especially Hinata. For those of you who are wondering, that moment where Buffy argues with Naruto for him guarding her was taken from the Naruto Shippuden episode "Successor of the Forbidden Jutsu" where Naruto interacts with Hotaru in the same way.
Now the next chapter will be an adaptation of the Buffy episode "The Harvest", so stay tuned, and Happy Halloween.
Chapter 4: The Harvest
