Cadance lay on her back on the hard earth, staring up at the stars. Sarsqoe had left to water Nyralym and most likely would not be back for a while. Speculating the last few weeks, she wondered how her life could have turned upside down in just a matter of days. But, it was most likely a disaster waiting to happen. Whether or not she knew she was the Witch King's heir didn't change the fact that she was, and that Sauron would eventually pursue her.

A question that she had temporarily pushed to the back of her mind resurfaced. While in Tellera, the tray of food brought to her by Sarsqoe had appeared to move by itself without contact with it.

Could she possibly learn how to control her powers?

What else would she be able to do?

Well, whatever hidden power she may possess, it wouldn't be able to help her now. What was the use of having magic if she couldn't utilize it when she needed to? If only she wasn't bound by that stupid rope, she could escape into the night. Frustrated, Cadance rolled over and pulled at a cluster of grass, seeking to distract herself. Much to her surprise, the blades in her grasp began to wither and decompose. Cadance sat up and stared at her hands. This couldn't be a coincidence. Without hesitation, she grasped the rope that kept her from freedom. Closing her eyes, she focused on her frustration. Even without looking, she could feel the fibers of the rope coming apart and crumbling against her fingertips. It had worked!

Cadance opened her eyes and examined her work. The rope was severed with about two feet left hanging from her wrists. Her hands were still bound, but sat least she could leave. Now, time was of the essence and she could not waste a single moment. Getting to her feet, she tried to figure what the best course of action would be. If she continued traveling towards Rivendell, she risked running into the wraiths, but she would be safe once with the elves. If she went back to Tellera, she could be easily found and no one there would be powerful enough to protect her. Judging about the direction she needed to run, Cadance set out at a steady pace, determined that she would reach Rivendell.

This is a bit of a shorter chapter, but it was a good place to leave off for now. More will (hopefully) come soon.
