The Faron Woods were covered in twilight. "Whoa," said Sonic. "I know," said Midna. There was a pause. "Well, get to it, cheetah!" she shouted, kicking Sonic's sides. "Okay, okay, I'm going," said an annoyed Sonic. He raced around collecting tears of light. He had to stomp on a bug, then use the vessel of light's power to pick up the light tears. "This'll be a piece of cake," he said. And it was. When all twelve tears of light were in the vessel of light, Sonic was engulfed in a bright light. "Well done, chosen one," said a voice. "I am the spirit Faron. You have freed me from the twilight. Now I will restore you to your original form." More light was shot on Sonic. "Now, awaken, chosen hero and look at your true form." Sonic stood up and found that he was back in his blue hedgehog body. Plus he had a wooden shield and a real sword. "Wow. Thanks, spirit," he said. "No. Thank you," said Faron. And he disappeared. "Well," said Midna. "I guess you won't be needing me anymore."
"No," said Sonic. "We still have to save my friends. Come on." Midna groaned, but she still followed Sonic towards the forest where they saw purple water. "Yuck," said Sonic. "We can't swim through that," said Midna. "Otherwise, the gas in the water will knock you out."
"You're right," said Sonic. "But, how do we stop it? And where is it coming from?" Just then, they saw the lantern oil seller again. He ran breathlessly up to Sonic. "Hey, guy, did you see the poisonous water?" He asked. "Yeah," said Sonic. "I have to find out where it's coming from so I can stop it."
"Well," said the lantern oil seller. "I think that monkey has the answer to your question. Just follow her. And here's some lantern oil. I can sell it to you for 30 rupees."
"You got yourself a deal," said Sonic as he paid for the lantern oil. He set off for the forest temple where they saw the monkey. She motioned for Sonic to follow her and he did so all the way to the forest temple. Suddenly, he was pulled away by someone. "Whoa!" he exclaimed.
Sonic found himself in a light space and he saw the same vet who had helped heal Epona. "Doctor?" Sonic asked. "Yes," said the vet. "It is I, your local vet from Ordon Village. I could sense you were in trouble, so I came to help."
"How's Epona?" asked Sonic. "Ever since the attack, Epona ran away. Her leg seems to be getting better, but the next time I see her, I'll take another look at her," the doctor replied. "My name is Dr. Faron. I am named after one of the spirits of the light. Before I became a vet, I was a swordsman for sixteen years. During that time, I learned seven hidden skills. I would be honoured to teach these hidden skills to you. The light spirit sensed that I was named after them and gave me the ability to travel to this secret realm with this magic necklace you see around my neck. That, Sonic, is how I'm able to be a hero's spirit. The hidden skills I'd like to teach you will help you feel the courage you need to save the world. Would you like me to teach you these hidden skills?"
"I would like that," said Sonic. "Excellent," said Dr. Faron. "The first hidden skill I'd like to teach you is called the Ending Blow. When a foe falls, jump up and strike their chest with your sword to finish their breath before you get up. Try it on me." Sonic practiced the skill twice until he mastered it. "Well done, Sonic," said Dr. Faron. "Thanks," said Sonic. "But how come I didn't kill you?"
"I'm wearing magic armour that can withstand anything. That's another thing that was given to me by the light spirits. I'll be your secret sparring partner, but don't tell anyone there's a light spirit named after me," said Dr. Faron. "Yes, doctor," said Sonic. "When you're ready to learn a new hidden skill, just call me," said Dr. Faron. "You can summon me anytime and I will come."
"Thanks, doctor," said Sonic as he was warped away from the light space. He continued to follow the monkey to the forest temple.
