It was very dark inside the Forest Temple and Sonic could hardly see a thing. He walked carefully forwards in the temple until he heard a voice. "Psst. Excuse me?" it whispered. "Could you please get me out of this cage?" As Sonic walked towards the source of the voice, he found a little monkey in the cage. "Hold still," he whispered. He cut through the bars to get the monkey out. "Thank you," said the monkey. "You're welcome," replied Sonic. "How did you get stuck in the cage?"
"The big boss monkey," sighed the little monkey. "I don't know what's gotten into him, but he sure is in a bad mood. He trapped all my friends in cages too. If you can help me save my friends, we can help you navigate this temple and find the boss."
"I'm confused," said Sonic. "Well," said the monkey. "The big boss monkey is not responsible for the poison water, but there's a plant monster deep within the forest temple. Once you rescue all three of my friends, we can show you where it is."
"Oh," said Sonic. "Now, I understand. I think. Lead the way!" The monkey led Sonic up a ladder and towards a room where the path split three ways. "Which way should we go?" asked Sonic. "This way," replied the monkey, as she led Sonic down the path to the left.
Once they got to the room, Sonic found another monkey in a cage. He spin-dashed over to it and knocked it down. "Oh, thank you," said the second monkey. "You're welcome," said Sonic. Both monkeys led Sonic to the main room of the forest temple, then they went down the path to the right.
Sonic found yet another monkey and saw that the key to open the cage was just in front of him. He was just about to grab it when snatch! A plant took it! "Hey!" shouted Sonic. Dodging the plant's bite attacks, he noticed some bomb plants nearby. Picking one up, he threw one at the biting plant, making it explode. Sonic shielded his eyes as the plant disappeared. When Sonic opened his eyes, he saw the key on the ground once more. This time, Sonic ran over and picked it up, then he zipped up to the cage and unlocked the door to free the monkey. "Thank you, my brave blue friend," said the monkey. He joined the other monkeys and as they led Sonic back to the main room, Sonic could hear them arguing.
"That hedgehog is fast. Couldn't he just cut through the bars like he did for me?" asked monkey number one. "I don't think it's that simple," said the third monkey. "That wood might've been too tough to cut."
"Would not," said the first monkey.
"Would too," said the third monkey."
"Would not!"
"Would too!"
"Quiet!" shouted the second monkey. "We're supposed to be helping Sonic get around. He's helping us, so we've got to focus on helping him get to the boss he has to fight."
"Okay," said the other two with a sigh.
Back in the main room, Sonic could see the last monkey in a cage that was to the left of the door right in front of him. He spin-dashed the bars to cut through them and free the monkey. "Oh, thank you, brave sir," he said. "You're welcome," said Sonic as the other three monkeys joined him at his feet. "Well, it looks like that's all of you," said Sonic. "Which way to the boss?"
"This way!" shouted all four monkeys cheerfully as they led him through the door. Sonic found himself in an outdoor area. There was a huge chasm in front of him and there was a bridge. On the other side, he saw another monkey that was bigger than the others. "The boss," whispered the little monkeys behind him. The big monkey was holding a boomerang and then threw it. The boomerang cut the ropes of the bridge, destroying it. The monkey slapped his huge butt and ran into the temple room. "Now, how am I going to get across?" he asked in despair. "We can help," said the first monkey. They climbed onto the surviving rope and helped Sonic swing across. Then, he ran into the room after the boss monkey.
