John (showing a tiny Christmas stocking to Sarah): Mommy, I made a stocking for Kitty
Sarah (rubbing her big swollen stomach): Kitty will love it when she arrives
Pops (observing Sarah): The time is getting close for you to give birth
Sarah (sitting down in a chair): Not now, but soon
Kyle (massaging Sarah's shoulders): I am looking forward to meeting and holding our miracle Christmas baby
(Sarah goes into labor with Kitty exactly at 12:00 am (December 20th). Kyle and Sarah prepare themselves for a home birth)
Time Period: The Next Day (December 20th)
Situation: Kitty's home birth (taking place in a room in the house)
Sarah (sitting in the birthing pool with Kyle): OOH...HE
Kyle (providing extra body support for Sarah): You are super close to giving birth
Sarah (begging Kyle): Please make my pain go away
Pops (playing a Christmas cd): I am going to play a Christmas CD since Sarah is having a Christmas baby. The music should calm her down.
Kyle (sitting in the birthing pool with Sarah): Thanks, Pops
John (to Sarah): Mommy, I love you
Sarah (contracting nonstop): I love you too
Pops (escorting John out of the room): Please come with me, John.
Sarah (overcome an urgent need to push): The baby is coming! I must push!
The midwife (checking Sarah): You are fully dilated. You can start pushing right now.
Sarah (pressuring, straining, and stretching herself to push out the baby): AHA...AHA...AHA..AHA
The midwife (adding pressure to Sarah's stomach): Thats a good push, Sarah
Sarah (leaning against Kyle for head and back support): AHA...AHA...AHA ...AHA
Kyle (holding one of Sarah's legs): You are very strong, my love
Sarah (bearing down and pushing much harder): AHA...AHA..AHA..AHA
The midwife (witnessing the baby crown): The baby is emerging
Sarah (feeling uncomfortable): OH GOD! It Hurts and Burns!
Kyle: You will feel better after you deliver
(Through blood, sweat, and tears, Sarah delivers her and Kyle's miracle Christmas baby named Kitty. Pops and John love Kitty. Who knew Sarah would become pregnant again seven months later (around June) ? The pregnancy came as a great shock to everyone. This third pregnancy tested Kyle's love for Sarah and vice versa because the baby (Chance) had Down Syndrome.
Time Period: The Present Reality- Nine Months Later
Date: February 14th (Valentines Day)
Place: A Hospital Delivery Room
Situation: Chance's birth
A doctor and a nurse (counting): 1..2...3...4...5
Sarah (Emilia) pushing with all of her strength): AHA...AHA...AHA
Pops (squeezing Sarah's hand): You can do this
Sarah (overwhelmed): Everything is happening all at once. I am not ready to bring Chance into this world. Kyle has denied and rejected any claim to him. Although Kyle is Chance's father, he has preferred John and Kitty over Chance. What kind of life will Chance have?
Pops: Chance was a surprise, but he deserves to live
Sarah (choked up): Even if he has Down Syndrome
Pops (rubbing Sarah's stomach): Yes
Sarah (giving into her pain again): AHA...AHA...AHA
Pops: Breathe, Sarah, Breathe
Sarah (hyperventilating): I can't
A nurse (putting a breathing mask on Sarah): This breathing mask should help you breathe better
Sarah: Thanks
The doctor (making a small cut into Sarah's opening): Lets get this baby out. His survival depends on it.
Sarah (experiencing a burning ring of fire): Baby Chance is coming. I can feel him.
A nurse (adjusting the fetal heartbeat monitor on Sarah's stomach): Chance has a strong steady heartbeat
Pops (rubbing Sarah's stomach): He has does have a fighting Chance after all
Sarah (holding her legs wide open for the baby is super close): GRR...AHA..AHA...AHA
(The doctor places Chance on Sarah's stomach and Sarah breaks down crying, a mixture of happy and sad tears. Pops ponders everything in his heart. Kyle who had been taking care of John and Kitty at the house, does come to the hospital to sign Chance's birth certificate. He learns to love and tolerate Chance with time).
