A/N: Oh hello.

New little story for y'all with a pairing we don't get to see enough of.

After discussing with TrashyArts the idea of this oh so toxic pairing (and then her producing such a wonderful piece of art) Roy and myself thought this just had to turn into a fic.

Three months later here we are.

I play Kai, she plays Brooklyn.

Any other characters we chuck around.

Warnings: Domestic abuse and sexual content.

Enjoy!

Chapter 1 Jekyll and Hyde

With his vision blurred over starring at nothing Kai sat on the edge of the bed in the darkened room. He didn't know how long he'd been alone in here for now. Could've been minutes, hours, maybe even days. His eyes were puffy, reddened and sore, it hurt to even blink right now.

With a sniffle he carelessly wiped his nose with his jacket sleeve, having not had the chance to even take it off when he'd first got home. Countless mixed emotions coursing through him as he continued to stare blankly into darkness.

As a crack of light began to pour in, he squinted, adjusting his eyes as he looked over towards the slow opening bedroom door before turning his head away and noticeably shifted, retreating into himself.

The door squeaked open a little more. Soft teal eyes peeping through the gap.

With a gentle sigh, the eyes disappeared for a split second, his foot nudging the door open fully to let himself in while his hands were both full carrying two steaming mugs.

"I come in peace..." his calm voice said with a small smile, holding the mugs up despite not being looked at.

Kai sniffled again, refusing to look across to him as he wiped his face more roughly this time, wincing a little at his tender skin as he tried to quickly rid it of any evidence of what he couldn't control pouring out of him earlier.

He hated looking like this in front of Brooklyn. So weak, pitiful.

The redhead took long and slow steps around the edge of the bed, easing himself down as he held out a cup.

"Here. Camomile. Help calm everything down..."

Kai shifted as the mattress moved with the extra weight and took a quick glance down to the white cup.

Looking away again he begrudgingly accepted it from him and rested it down on his lap before mumbling out a simple,

".. Thanks."

Brooklyn let out a small smile, reaching his hand out to brush the dark hair on the back of Kai's head with his fingers.

"Welcome..."

At the contact Kai instantly tensed and whether he wanted to or not flinched from him, spilling some of the tea onto his jeans. Ignoring the burn on his skin, violet shot up and locked with concerned teal.

Brooklyn startled.

"Hey, hey...shhhh. What's this?" He cooed, "I know we had a spat, but come on Kai, this is ridiculous." He pleaded in a soft voice as his hand rubbed Kai's thigh, where the tea had burned.

"Are you all right?"

Kai's heart still pounded in his chest waiting for the reaction he'd initially expected from him that never came.

Placing the tea down to his right on his bedside table he fixed on it before muttering out.

"I'm fine..."

Almost cautiously he turned to face him again and couldn't help hold a somewhat confused expression on his face.

"A-Are you?"

Brooklyn gave him a sympathetic face.

"Yes...well, I will be when we both agree to put this behind us."

His sympathetic look grew bigger at the look of uncertainty.

"Come here..." he said softly as he wrapped his hand on the back of Kai's neck and gently pulled him to him, shifting to get them both in the right position for a much needed hug.

Whilst he remained still, Kai's eyes darted to the hand that was coming closer to him and wrapped around his neck. He wasn't sure he wanted this right now but sat frozen and allowed the taller male to pull him in close anyway.

Brooklyn's arms snaked around him, resting his chin on Kai's shoulder.

"What am I going to do with you?" He asked in a joking tone.

The redhead's scent was both healing and breaking him as Kai dared to wrap his own arm around him, simply shrugging in response to his question.

He honestly didn't have an answer for him. He thought he had done the right thing this time. Though, as he sat there with his head rested on his shoulder he couldn't help but think.

What had changed? Brooklyn wasn't this understanding when he'd first got home...

Pushing his wet bangs off his face Kai heaved himself up the four flights of stairs, the damn elevator broken again.

Perfect end to a shitty day!

Catching his breath back he stood at their front door with his hand rested on the doorknob to give himself a moment.

What a day. Had he even eaten at all? It had only felt like seconds since he had left early this morning before the sun had even risen, and now he was returning home in the same darkness.

Not wanting to waste a minute more to even check on the time, he pulled down the handle and crept into the apartment. He knew he was late but it wasn't like he had any control over the day's events.

"Hey Brook I'm home!" He called out.

In a flash, the sound of footsteps stampeded towards him, a fiery, stony face quickly coming through the doorway.

"And where the hell have you been!?" His raspy voice boomed, echoing off the walls.

Kai tensed as his voice rang in his ears.

"School.." He plainly stated, shifting his backpack on his shoulder. "I had to stay behind to help with the project we're working on. I did tell you this morning I might be late home tonight.."

Brooklyn let out an angry laugh of disbelief.

"There it is again...the 'I told you before'. Would I be this worried if you'd told me this morning!?"

Kai opened his mouth to speak but then faltered as he scanned back to his recollections of this morning.

He had told him, he was in the kitchen, was packing up his lunch and Brooklyn had been stood right there. He had said it out loud to him.. hadn't he?

"Brook, you were standing there in the doorway when I'd mentioned it," he said gesturing over to the kitchen. "You'd nodded and said to not worry about it?" His tone held a hint of uncertainty as Brooklyn's face was suggesting he was enjoying this hilarious made up story of his.

"Oh sure, Kai. I was right there but didn't hear a thing. Funny how I keep being left here to worry where you are, thinking something might have happened to you, even though you supposedly told me about it! Why can't you just grow up and admit you did wrong, huh!?"

Kai blinked as he looked from the livid eyes currently boring into him, over to the kitchen and then back at Brooklyn.

"I'm... I'm sorry then... I really thought I told you this time.." He softly spoke back, still not entirely convinced on whether he did or didn't.

Brooklyn growled.

"Sorry...you're always sorry! Always the apologies come so easily, but do you ever change!? Do you ever rectify the wrongs!? Is it really so fucking hard to just tell me if and when you're going to be late home!?"

As he continued to grill him, Kai's slate brows knitted together. His mind elsewhere frantically piecing together once more this mornings events, Brooklyn's voice just noise in the background now.

Whilst the times before he hadn't been 100% sure on what was said aloud and what wasn't, in this instance he knew for a fact what had occurred, because it was this very scenario he was wanting to avoid.

"No Brooklyn it isn't hard, hence why I fucking told you! Just 'cos you can't remember doesn't mean it didn't happen! Are you sure you don't smoke any of that stuff you grow at work?" He spat.

Brooklyn stood stunned a moment. His mouth slowly falling wider with each passing second.

His eyes grew darker.

"The fuck did you say to me?"

Seeing the change in Brooklyn's eyes Kai swallowed before shifting his rucksack back onto his shoulder and heading towards their room.

"Nothing... forget it."

Brooklyn stepped in front of him before he reached the stairs.

"No! You want to repeat that to my face!?" he dared.

Kai slowly shook his head.

"It...was just a joke..." He muttered as he avoided the piercing gaze fixated on him and stared off to the side.

Brooklyn squared up to him, forcing him to look him in the eyes.

"Very funny." He hissed out in a low rumbling growl.

Staring at him for a moment Kai pulled his jaw from Brooklyn's grip and shoved past him making his way up the stairs to their bedroom.

He wasn't dealing with this any more. After the day he'd had the last thing he needed was Brooklyn adding to it.

But Brooklyn clearly didn't appreciate being brushed aside like that.

Picking up the glass trophy Kai had won in a tournament, he reeled his arm back, hurling it with everything he had.

It skimmed by the side of Kai's head, crashing in to the wall and shattering in to pieces.

Kai gasped out and flinched, his eyes screwing themselves shut and his body curled in on itself as the glass shattered around him and landed by his feet.

Whether he had intended to hit him or not, the intent to do something was there all the same.

Once the glass had settled and the sound had finished ringing in his ears, Kai slowly looked over his shoulder. His eyes holding a glisten as he spoke out, just as broken as his trophy.

"You promised..."

He then turned and made his way into the bedroom with a slam of the door.

Which lead them right to this moment.

Brooklyn's chin on his shoulder while he held him tenderly. The contrast to the person at the bottom of the stairs minutes ago parallel.

He pulled away slightly, enough to look him in the eyes, their noses touching.

"What am I going to do with you?" He repeated, his tone even softer and more sympathetic.

Kai just stared back at him, back at those blue eyes just for a brief moment before breaking off his gaze and turning his head from him. It was those teal pools he'd originally fallen for, once being able to stare into them for hours, though now..

Things had changed.

"... You promised me Brooklyn.." He breathed out, not wanting to bring up what had just transpired on the stairs but he couldn't just forget about it after a sip of chamomile.

"You promised."

Brooklyn let out a sigh from his nose.

"I know. And you promised to tell me if you were going to be late. Do you have any idea how worried I was? You've seen the kind of people and the kind of stuff that goes on around your school..." his smooth and calm voice seeped out as his hands slipped back and fell in to his lap.

Kai pressed his lips together. Torn on how he was feeling right now as Brooklyn's words were coming across to him as completely genuine.

Maybe he really had just thought it and hadn't actually told him this morning? Like he'd said, why would he be this worked up if he knew?

God he was losing his mind...

"I'm sorry I worried you.." His words came as barely a whisper as he continued to avoid eye contact.

Another sigh came out of Brooklyn's nose.

"It's okay. I just wanted you back safe with me..." he said softly as his fingers pushed to tilt his chin towards him, "I couldn't bare it if something were to happen to you."

It was then Kai's turn to sigh before locking with turquoise again.

He wasn't a child.

Why Brooklyn felt he was in constant danger every time he left the front door he'd never know. He was meant to be his boyfriend not his mother..

"You really don't need to panic so much though.. I'm fine.."

Brooklyn huffed.

"People like you and I aren't ever fine." He said with a bit more force.

Slate brows instantly knitted together.

"What do you mean 'people like us?' "

Brooklyn tutted.

"You know what I mean. The cards we were dealt...things went wrong for us. We aren't like everyone else."

Kai couldn't suppress the eye roll.

"That was all a long time ago Brooklyn. You need to let it go.. we are fine."

Whilst his words came out somewhat scolding Kai's expression had softened and it was his turn to now send the redhead a sympathetic look.

Brooklyn's face, however, became harder.

He took Kai's hand up in his, squeezing tight.

"A house built on bad foundations may last a while...but sooner or later, it cracks. We need to look out for each other."

Kai took a glance down at their cupped hands before giving him a slow nod, a slight hum sitting in his throat.

Whilst he appreciated finally having someone who had his best interests at heart and Brooklyn's words and intentions seemed good enough.. almost smacking him with a glass trophy was hardly looking out for each other.

"How do we get past this then? What are we going to do?" He mumbled out.

Brooklyn's lip curled in to a small smile, shifting closer.

"I know exactly what we're going to do..." his drawling voice seeped out coyly.

Kai sent him a look though didn't move back from him.

He knew that smile, and he knew that tone of voice, though chose to play dumb anyway.

"...What?"

Brooklyn's sly smile grew.

He leaned in, pressing their lips together gently to get and give the taste before quickly desiring more.

His hands snaked back up Kai's toned chest and up to his hair, pulling him in harder.

Brooklyn always did this. Always tried to seduce him thinking that getting physical will just solve everything.. make it all better.

Give him those ocean eyes then brush whatever problem they have under the carpet for now and it'll get forgotten about come morning.

The internal struggle though within Kai's mind didn't put up much of a fight as his mouth moved to work against his the second the redhead's lips touched against his own.

Brooklyn loved him. Of course he did, he had to.

Such concern and passion to the point he couldn't control himself in a fit of worry showed that.

He was naive to think otherwise.

What they had was raw, true love. Like Brooklyn had told him, he'd never find this again. And he was probably right. He would be nothing without him.

Who else could love someone who was so messed up?

Naturally, someone who was just as, if not more messed up.

Like he'd said, they were different from everyone else. Always had been. And Brooklyn was the only one who would ever understand him. Know him.

Kai's arm wrapped around the slender waist as the kisses moved to trail along his jawline and to his neck.

He tilted his head to the side to give him all the room he desired before softly breathing out, his eyes remaining closed.

"Brooklyn.."

The redhead smirked in to his neck.

He knew him so well...
