Lou clicked the back of her wooden shoes together as she grinned at the five campers in attendance. It was Saturday morning, which meant it was time for Lou's Sunrise Clogging Club. The five campers in front of her clumsily clacked their own wooden shoes in response.

"Very good!" She cheered and happily clapped her hands.

Even though the name of the club was Sunrise Clogging Club, it actually took place around 11 a.m. That was because Hazel had threatened to burn the camp down again and Zuri volunteered to help the weasel if Lou and her little clogging cherubs continued to have their practice at the founding time of 5 a.m.

"Lou, I must speak with you immediately!"

Lou looked over her shoulder to see Ravi frantically making his way to her. He was nearly hit by a can of beans that two Badger cabin C.I.T.s were tossing back and forth out of boredom.

"Hey, sw-," Lou began, but was cut off by Ravi grabbing her hand and pulling her away from the group of clogging campers.

He gave a panicky glance over her shoulder to make sure the children were not listening before he leaned forward and whispered to his girlfriend, "Gladys has been bitten."

Lou rolled her eyes and shrugged his hand away from hers. She said, "The raccoons are loose again, Ravi. And Gladys is the one who refuses to get a pest removal service out here. Plus, she keeps hiding all the good pudding in her cabin, so it kinda serves her right."

Lou turned to walk away, but Ravi grabbed her hand and tugged her back. He nervously looked around the Great Lawn before whispering again, "Not by raccoons. By a vampire."

"A what," Lou said flatly. She snatched her hand away from his and poked him in the shoulder repeatedly. "You. Interrupted. Clogging."

"Ow!" Ravi whined as he leaned his shoulder away from her. "This is serious, cuddle bug! I believe that guy, the oddly dressed gentleman who picked her up for a date last evening, was the vampire from an old Mooserump legend I read about in the Camp Kikiwaka library. He has bitten our poor, unfortunate, and often-times-rude camp director."

Lou sighed and put her hands on her hips. She shook her head as she looked up at the sky. She complained jokingly, "Why do I always go for the ones that need the most work?"

"Eek!" Ravi whisper-shouted as he jumped slightly behind Lou. He pointed toward Gladys as the camp director lazily trudged out of the mess hall. "There she is!"

"She looks the same as always," Lou said as she watched Gladys scratch under her armpits.

"No, Lou. Really look at her. The pale skin. The dead look in her eyes. And…" Ravi squinted and then immediately his eyes widened. He wrapped his arms around his girlfriend and held her tight as he squeaked, "Blood on her teeth."

Lou was conflicted. On one hand, Ravi had obviously stayed in the library way too long while it was being painted and those fumes had messed with his brain. Gladys was pale because instead of being in the sun with everyone else during the day, she hid in her cabin watching George Clooney movies and eating ice cream and screaming out of a megaphone for counselors to get to work. And Gladys' eyes had held that dead look for as long as Lou had been coming to camp since she was nine years old.

"Well…" She thought about telling Ravi that Murphy was serving hashbrowns for breakfast, so it was obviously ketchup messily dripping from Gladys' chin.

But on the other hand, her boyfriend was holding her tighter than Zuri held a bat on scary movie nights on the Great Lawn. His arms were warm around her and made her feel like grinning and giggling. And Ravi smelled like jasmine, which was Lou's favorite scent. She inhaled deeply and couldn't stop her eyes from fluttering shut.

"Lou!" Ravi shouted as he shook his girlfriend. "Did you hear anything I just said?"

Lou opened her eyes and glanced around the Great Lawn. Her clogging club members had scattered and there was a different group of C.I.T.s hanging out on the benches now. Gladys had smeared the ketchup off her chin and was sipping on a smoothie.

"Wait a moment…" Ravi said as he slowly released Lou from his embrace. His eyes were on Gladys. "Hmm, why would Gladys steal a smoothie from that Bobcat cabin camper? It's full of fruit and dairy."

"Because she's Gladys," Lou murmured as she frowned at the lack of Ravi's arms around her arms.

Ravi slammed his palm against his forehead and chuckled. "Me and my overactive imagination. Of course, Gladys is not a vampire. If she were, then she would not be able to eat a stolen strawberry and banana smoothie. Like duh."

Lou narrowed her eyes slightly at her boyfriend. "That's what you're going with, huh?" She patted his shoulder. "No more paint fumes, honey bunch."

"Huh?" Ravi asked with a confused expression. But his girlfriend didn't respond. He watched her walk away. He called out, "See you later, dear!"

Lou waved at him over her shoulder and chuckled at her adorably paranoid boyfriend.
