5. The Oleson's Surprise

In the bedroom at the Oleson's. Nels and Harriet Oleson are sleeping peacefully. Harriet suddenly gets up and hurries to their Water Closet across the hall. She reaches the room and begins to throw up in the sink.

Nels wakes up when he hears his wife's distress and walks to the Water Closet, "Are you all right dear?" Nels asks as he reaches his wife.

After drinking some water from the water pump to rinse out the vomit in her mouth, "Yes dear... I'm ok. I've been feeling sick lately. I haven't been like this since I was pregnant with Nellie and Willie. Nels you think I'm...?" Harriet asks a little stunned.

Nels just as stunned replies, "I don't know but tomorrow morning we going to see either Doctor's Baker, Dr. Ludew or go over to Wilders' place to see Doctor Ingalls."

"But Nels we have to open up the store our customers will be needing their supplies."

Harriet protested.

"The store can wait Harriet we have to see what's wrong with you and I mean it dear," Nels says.

"Yes dear," Harriet replies.

After helping his wife back to bed Nels gets back into bed too and they manage to go through the night in a nice peaceful sleep.

The next day they stop at Doctor Baker's office. Surprisingly they find Albert Ingalls there, "Dr. Baker and Dr. Ledoux had to make a couple of errands helping patients on a few Farms. I can take a look at you Mrs. Oleson," Albert says.

"Thank you Albert," Harriet says.

"How's the family Albert?" Nels asks as he helps Harriet to the examination room and sitting her on the exam table.

"Oh they are fine. My wife Sylvia just had my son Albert Jr. Our Sarah Olivia along with Laura Amelia and Adam Kendall Jr the 3rd, Royal Charles Wilder and Harriet Brown Oleson are all having their first birthdays soon. In 2 weeks to be exact."

Mrs Oleson on the examing table smiles as she remembers her daughter in law, Rachel Brown Oleson naming her daughter after her and says, "My youngest granddaughter is having her first birthday."

"Yes," Albert continues, "We are planning a birthday party for all of them. My Ma and Pa and also Mary and Adam are coming down to celebrate with us.

Nels replies, "Yes Willie told us about it. He and Rachel called Nellie and Percival in New York and Percival said Nellie also had her baby. Another baby girl. They named her Millie. Willie told us that Nellie and Percival and their children will also be here to celebrate."

"Congratulations on being grandparents again. Mrs. Oleson, let's take a look at you," Albert says.

Nels goes to the waiting room and sits down and waits as Albert examines his wife. After abit Albert opens the curtains to the examination room then closes them. He goes up to Nels and Nels asks, "How is she Doctor Albert?"

"She's going to be fine Nels and in about 6 months you're going to be a father again."

Nels stands up stutters a little bit, "Doctor you don't mean... you don't mean?" Nels asks.

"Yes Nels, your wife is going to have a baby," Albert answers.

Nels is shocked and his shock turns to glee as he gives Dr. Albert a hug out of excitement, "I... I don't know what to say but it... it's... Whoooohoo!" Nels excitingly yells.

"Congratulations Nels! to you and your wife." Albert says.

"Thank you," Nels says.

Harriet after getting dressed comes out of the examination room and she says "Albert, but we used a condom how can I be pregnant... and my age?" She aaks.

"It can happen. Condoms are not always effective in preventing pregnancy. Remember it happened to me and Sylvia. Harriet also don't worry about your age I have seen older women than you get pregnant and be fine," Albert replies.

Nels goes over and holds his wife. it's okay Harriet I don't regret it and besides wait till Nellie, Willie, and Nancy find out it. I'm sure they'll be happy. I love you."

Harriet looks up and smiles at her husband, "I love you too Nels."

Albert smiling at them says, "Harriet, Nels you both are invited to our kids birthday celebration in 2 weeks to also celebrate your coming addition to your family."

Both Nels and Harriet nod their heads, "Yes we will be there."

"Great!" Albert says, "Also we all plan on having some "fun" once the children are asleep."

Nels and Harriet look at each other and they smile although she is pregnant they still have their vitality when it comes to having sex. They have been having sex ever since they had their rebound that time at the Wilder's boarding house.

After leaving Dr. Baker's office Nels and Harriet decide to close the store for a day so they can just spend some time with themselves and think about their upcoming new addition to their family.

Harriet says to her husband, "Nels we can make Nancy's old bedroom that also used to be Nellie's room into a Nursery for our new baby."

Nels agrees, "Honey that sounds like a good idea."

Just then Nancy and her husband Jeb Carter walks in to say, "Goodnight," after a long day of helping Willie and Rachel at the Restaurant. Nancy says, "Jeb and I are going to turn in to our Room at the Hotel."

Harriet says, "Nancy, before you go I want to ask if it would be okay if we use your old bedroom for a Nursery for our new addition to the family in about six months?"

Nancy answers, "Sure Ma and congratulations on the new baby coming. I'm excited to have a new brother or sister."

They all say their "Goodnights."

The next 2 weeks preparations are being made five baby's first birthday.

At the Wilder's Boarding House in the kitchen the day before the kids birthday Laura, Sylvia and Rachel are making cakes for their children as Sylvia says, "We sure do have alot of cakes here!"

Rachel answers, "Yes we have five cakes. We have 5 birthdays to celebrate for and we want each of our babies to have a cake to blow out candles on. We are also having alot of guests."

Laura than says, "Yes, my Ma and Pa, Nellie and Percival and their children, Adam and Mary and their children will all be here in about an hour or so and the party will be tomorrow night."

There is a brief moment of silence then Sylvia says, "I just wish that Carrie and Carl Sanders, Matthew and Jenny Rodgers could be here."

Rachel answers, "Yes me as well. When I called to invite them. Carl Sanders said they were busy helping Farmers to put in pipelines to nearby creeks to water their farm and Matthew Rodgers said he was busy at the Ford company. They both wished our kids a very happy first birthday and that presents will be here in a few days."

Laura mentions, "When I called Nellie I told her Harriet had a surprise to tell her. I didn't tell Nellie that her Ma was expecting because Harriet wants it to be a surprise when she tells her."

Almanzo than sticks his head through the kitchen door and says, "Ladies the stagecoach will be here shortly with our guests, the Ingalls, the Daltons and Kendalls."

Laura answers, "We need to keep an eye on the cakes and other food."

Almanzo responds, "Us men, Albert, Willie and I can go pick them up at the Restaurant. We will need to take two wagons for they said they will have alot of presents for all the babies birthdays.

Almanzo, Albert and Willie all get to the Restaurant and the Stagecoach with Nellie and Percival, Mary and Adam have already arrived. Nels and Harriet, Nancy and Jeb are all greeting and hugging the Daltons. Harriet says to her daughter Nellie who is holding little Millie, "Nellie my newest granddaughter is the prettiest baby. She looks just like you did at that age."

"Oh Mother, "Nellie says.

"She does," Harriet continues and then Harriet asks Nellie, "So how old is my little granddaughter?"

Nellie answers, "Mother, she is a month and half."

Harriet plays with little Millie for abit and Millie coos at her grandmother. Harriet than smiles at Nellie and Percival and says, "Tomorrow night at the party I have a big announcement to tell you both."

"Ok Mother can't wait to hear the news."

Meanwhile Albert, Almanzo and Willie are helping Mary and Adam unload the stagecoach with all the presents that the Kendalls and Daltons brought not just for their kids but also for the Wilder's and Ingalls babies. Willie says, "Look at all those presents. I hope there is enough room in our wagons for everything."

Adam smiles, "Willie we will make room!" And than Adam asks, "Where is Laura, Rachel and Sylvia?"

Willie answers, "They are back at the House keeping an eye on all the food for our party tomorrow and also our little birthday kiddos. It's going to be some birthday party for them tomorrow."

A few minutes later another stagecoach arrives at the Restaurant with Charles and Caroline Ingalls and Albert helps his Ma and Pa with all their presents their brought for the children. The 2 wagons are so full of presents and little children that there isn't enough room for everyone so Charles says, "Caroline and I can walk to the Boarding House."

Albert says, "Ma, Pa you don't have to walk we can make room."

Caroline says, "Son its ok. I would like to get a little exercise. I have been sitting in the stagecoach for awhile."

Albert than says, "Ok Ma but I am going to walk with you both"

The group all leaves the Restaurant as Harriet says, "Nels and I will be over tomorrow around 1pm for the birthday party."

Nancy also says, "Jeb and I will also be there."

Almanzo and Willie are driving. The Kendalls are in one wagon with their children and presents while the Daltons in another wagon with their children and presents. Charles and Caroline Ingalls are walking behind them with their son Albert, "So son, how's Sylvia and our grandchildren?" Caroline asks.

"Oh they are fine Ma. Our Sarah Olivia and new son Albert Jr are keeping us busy but we manage."

"Oh that's wonderful! Can't wait to hold my new grandson," Caroline says.

Seems like my son and daughter in law have been really 'busy'. Congratulations son," Charles says.

"Thanks Pa," Albert says.

Soon they arrive at the Boarding house. Mary, Nellie, Caroline enter the house with the babies. While the men unload the luggage from the wagons and the many presents for the kids for their upcoming birthday party.

Once inside the guests are greeted by Laura, Sylvia, and Rachel. Hugs and Kisses are exchanged, "Wow! This is going to be a great birthday party for our children," Sylvia says.

"Yes it is Sylvia," Laura responds. Then she sees little Millie in Nellie's arms, "Oh Nellie, she's beautiful! Congratulations on your new baby girl."

Rachel Oleson is right beside Laura and she also agrees, "Nellie my newest niece is beautiful, congratulations Nellie," than Rachel takes Millie's little fingers and holds them for abit as Millie coos at her Aunt Rachel.

Nellie thanks them all for the compliments and than says to Sylvia, "Congratulations also on your new baby boy. I want to see him later.''

Caroline Ingalls also says to Sylvia, "Yes I want to see my newest grandson as well."

"Certainly," Sylvia says to Caroline and Nellie, "He is taking a little nap right now over there in his baby bassinet. Nellie you can lay your baby girl next to Albert Jr. if you wish there should be plenty of room."

Nellie says, "Thanks Sylvia but I don't want Millie to disturb Albert Jr. and wake him if he is sleeping. I'll just put him in the play pen with the rest of the children."

Before Nellie is able to put Millie in the play pen with the other children Rose Wilder comes up and asks, "Nellie may I hold her for a little bit"

Nellie answers, "Sure Rose you are old enough to hold her. You can sit with her on the couch just make sure to hold her head up."

"Ok thank you Nellie," Rose says as she sits down on the couch and Nellie hands Millie to Rose.

The men, Charles, Almanzo, Albert and Willie are all standing at the door with the presents around them and in hand as Albert says jokingly, "Hey ladies did you forget about us. We have all these presents where should we put them?"

The ladies chuckle a little bit than Sylvia says, "Oh Albert we are sorry!"

Caroline says, "Yes Charles we are sorry we get busy with a little women talk with Nellie and her new baby girl."

Rachel says, "Yes sorry Willie let me help you with that load of presents in your hands."

Laura also says, "Hi Pa, you all can place the presents on the table we have set up for them in the far corner of the room."

The presents are set on the table and even some underneath the table because they all didn't fit on the table.

The happy family and friends are now sitted around the Living Room snacking on some sandwiches and coffee. Caroline is holding and playing with her newest grandson, Albert Jr. with Charles sitting next to his wife little Albert is cooing at his grandma and grandpa. Charles and Caroline both say to Albert and Sylvia, "Our grandson is the cutest little boy!"

Mary and Adam who are holding their children, Laura Amelia and Adam Jr. smiles.

Both Albert and Sylvia replies, "Thanks Ma, thanks Pa." Than Sylvia says, "We should probably put her to bed as well as the rest of the children they have a long day ahead of them tomorrow."

The children are all put to bed in the Nursery.

All the babies have their separate cribs while Rose, Jenny and Ben all have comfy children's beds.

Then Laura says, "We should all probably get to bed ourselves we do have a full day ahead tomorrow."

They all say their 'goodnights'

Meanwhile over at the Oleson's Harriet and Nels are also in bed. Harriet says to Nels as both Harriet and Nels are rubbing Harriet's belly, "Oh Nels darling I can't wait till tomorrow to tell Nellie about our coming baby."

Nels replies, "Yes darling I know Nellie will be surprised just as Nancy was when we told her."

Harriet and Nels than falls asleep.

The next morning at the Wilder's Boarding House Sylvia is breastfeeding little Albert Jr. and Nellie is breastfeeding little Millie. Caroline is giving her granddaughter, Sarah Olivia a bottle of milk. Rachel, Laura and Mary also gave Harriet Brown, Royal Charles, Laura Amelia and Adam Kendall Jr. the 3rd a bottle of milk for breakfast. After all the children are fed and put into their playpens the rest of the family has a light breakfast. When they are finished eating Laura says, "Ok let's get ready for our children's 1st birthday party"

Nellie responds, "Yes we have alot to do Mother and Father will be here at 1pm along with Jeb and Nancy."

All the ladies of the family even Rose Wilder who is about 12years old helps in the kitchen all morning.

All the men of the family decorate the Living Room with balloons as Ben and Jenny Dalton who are about 8 years old help blow up the balloons. The men hang up streamers and 5 different signs that say Happy 1st Birthday, Sarah Olivia, Harriet Brown, Charles Royal, Laura Amelia, Adam Jr the 3rd.

The birthday babies that are in the playpen are looking around at all the excitement of their birthday celebration preparations.

A few hours later it's 1pm and a knock on the door. Laura answers it and it's Harriet and Nels Oleson with Jeb and Nancy Carter. Also Edna Cohen, Percival's mom is with them. Percival who is standing right beside Laura asks, "Mother I didn't know you where coming?"

Edna answers her son, "Yes, I decided to come. I come in on the morning stage."

"Oh, great!" Percival says giving his mom a hug, "I'm glad you are here."

Laura says, "Come in...come in have a sit anywhere you wish. The birthday party will start shortly."

The Olesons and Carters and Mrs Cohen go into the Boarding House and they look around and Nancy says, "The place looks great with all the decorations."

Rachel says, "Our husbands decorated all day while we were in the kitchen."

Everyone sits down in the Living Room to chat and visits a little before they start the birthday party. Nellie asks, "Mother what is the news that you wanted to tell me?"

"Nellie...," Harriet says, "I...I'm pregnant you are going to have a baby sister or brother in 6 months."

At first Nellie is a little stunned and is speechless and than she stands up goes over to her mother gives her a big hug and says, "Oh Mother that is wonderful news! Congratulations!" And than Nellie asks, "Mother did you get pregnant a couple months ago when we all had "fun" at my birthday party?''

Harriet answers, "Yes Nellie I sure did even though Nels used a condom."

Everyone than congratulates Harriet and Nels.

While they continue sitting and chatting they are also having sandwiches with a vegetable tray of tomatoes, carrots, celery, broccoli with ranch dipping sauce.

Little Harriet Brown Oleson is sitting on her grandma's lap and Mrs Oleson breaks off a very small piece of her sandwich and feeds it slowly to her granddaughter as she coos at her grandmother.

Also on Mrs.Cohen's lap is her granddaughter, Millie Dalton as Mrs. Cohen plays with her granddaughter little Millie coos at her grandmother.

An hour passes and Laura says, "Ok let's start the party. Caroline, Rachel, Mary, Nancy, Sylvia and I will get all the cakes."

Harriet Oleson says, "I can help also."

Laura says, "No Mrs. Oleson you, Nellie, Mrs. Cohen (your mother in law), and your grandchildren continue to visit with each other."

As Laura, Caroline, Mary, Sylvia, Rachel and Nancy go to the kitchen to get the 5 cakes the men gets the baby's height chairs.

A few minutes later the six ladies came back to the Living Room Laura has a cake with words on it that reads, 'Happy 1st birthday, Royal Charles' the cake Caroline has reads, 'Happy 1st birthday, 'Laura Amelia,' Mary has a cake that reads, 'Happy 1st birthday, Adam Kendall Jr. the 3rd,' Sylvia has a cake that reads, 'Happy 1st birthday, Sarah Olivia,' Rachel has a cake that reads, 'Happy 1st birthday, Harriet Brown.'

Nancy brings in the punch, glasses and folks.

The 5 birthday babies are placed in their height chairs and everyone begins to sing "Happy Birthday" to the children. Then each mother holds the cakes in front of their children and even though the babies are just a year old they manage to blow out the one candle in each cake with a little help from their Pa's standing behind them.

Then the cakes are set on each height chair table for just a few seconds to allow the babies to put their little hands through the cake as little babies do. Pictures are also being taken of this scene.

Even though the five cakes are now messy they are cut and everyone has a slice with some punch. The birthday kids sit in their height chairs and play with their piece and also shoves it into their mouths.

Rose, Jennifer and Benjamin are sitting by their own play table eating they own slices of cake.

Another hour passes the five 1years olds are cleaned up, sitting on the floor with their wrapped birthday presents in front of them. Each child is handed a present at a time and the mother helps her son or daughter to open it.

The three birthday girls Sarah Olivia, Harriet Brown and Laura Amelia gets cute little dresses, a baby bonnet and shoes to match, a new doll and doll clothes to go with it.

Sarah Olivia's dress is yellow and white with flowers, Harriet Brown's dress is red and white with flowers and Laura Amelia's dress is blue and white with flowers.

The two birthday boys, Royal Charles and Adam Kendall Jr. the 3rd receive a new suit of clothes, little toy trucks, horses and wagons.

As the children play with their new toys Charles begins to play his fiddle and Almanzo his guitar. Albert and Sylvia, Mary and Adam. Willie and Rachel begin to dance with each other to the music.

Laura and Caroline clap with the beat of the music.

Nels and Percival enjoy a little game of checkers.

Nancy and Jeb just relax on one of the couches watching the lovely site of all the children playing with their new toys.

Nellie, Caroline, and Percival's mother Edna helps with the refreshments. While Harriet plays with the birthday children on the floor.

After about an hour of the kids playing and different couples taking turns dancing to the music of the fiddle and guitar Rachel says, "It's getting late we should probably get the kids to bed."

Mrs Cohen says, "I will sleep in the Nursery with the children to keep an eye on them throughout the night. For I now you couples might not what to be disturbed.

"Thank you Mother," Percival says.

"Your welcome son," Mrs. Cohen replies, "have a goodnight."

All the children are put to bed in the Nursery and 15 minutes later all the children are fast asleep and then Albert says, "Let's put on some soft music and just dance slowly with our spouses.

About 10 to15 minutes later of dancing to slow romantic music the couples began to get horny for each other.

Charles and Almanzo slowly end their musical playing and puts their instruments away.

Jeb, Percival and Albert and Adam begin to clean and clear the floor of wrapping and such. Moving the height chairs that the babies where in to the side. Clearing the floor of the Living Room since it was the biggest in the house.

Meanwhile the women are clearing and cleaning up the dishes.

With their combined teamwork all the couples where able to finish up in no time at all. The rest of the night would be nothing but fun together!

Each couple looks at their spouses.

"Charles! I really want you tonight!" Caroline says.

"I want you too Caroline!" Charles replies back.

Meanwhile Albert is getting from his doctor's bag a handful of condoms. Sylvia begins to giggle as he passes them out to the men, "Don't forget your rubbers folks."

"Oh Albert! you so funny," Sylvia laughs.

"Hey! You never know... you know," Albert replies smiling.

All the couples now have a little package with a condom in it.

After an hour or more of having "fun all eight couples are exhausted. Their lovemaking is now over. The eight couples just relax for a bit to ease up their heavy breathing then all of them settle down into a deep and wonderful sleep.

Never has lovemaking been so much fun to eight couples.

Naked and sleeping peacefully eight couples enjoyed themselves.

Early the next morning eight couples fully naked are sleeping peacefully. Then the sound of babies crying stir the couples awake. All of them stretch out.

"Looks like we are being called Beth,"

Manly says as he stretches out.

"Yep Manly," Laura replies stretching out too.

Albert, Sylvia, Adam, Mary, Nellie, Percival, Willie, Rachel, Jeb, Nancy, Nels ,Harriet, Charles and Caroline all stretch out.

All the Couples get up from the floor and couches and they start to get dressed. As they do the crying of the children grows more.

After dressing Mary, Laura, Sylvia, Nellie and Rachel go upstairs to attend to the children.

Caroline, Harriet and her second daughter Nancy go to the kitchen to start breakfast for the kids and the families. Jeb also goes to the kitchen to give his wife and mother in law a helping hand.

Meanwhile the other men began to clean up the Living Room. Albert and Adam picks up all the condoms and throws them away in the water closet. Almanzo folds up the bed couch. Charles goes to the closet to get towels for the babies. Willie gets the table ready for the morning breakfast by wiping it down. Percival and Nels puts the baby's fold up height chairs and the grown up chairs around the table.

Upstairs as the women enter the Nursery to attend to the children Mrs Cohen is holding her granddaughter Millie Dalton who is crying because she is hungry. Mrs. Cohen gives Millie to her mother as Nellie asks Mrs Cohen, "How was my little bundle of joy last night?"

Mrs. Cohen answers, "I didn't hear a 'peep' out of her at all last as well as the other children until about 10mins ago when Millie and Albert Jr. started crying because of being hungry. They all such beautiful children!"

Nellie than says, "Thank you for staying with them last night"

Than Mary, Laura and Rachel also turn to Mrs. Cohen and says in unison, "Yes, thank you."

Mrs.Cohen says, "You all are welcome glad to help." Mrs Cohen than has a little grin on her face as she says, "I know you all had some "fun" last for I did hear you all some."

The group of ladies all just look at each other for a brief second. Then Nellie and Sylvia sat on chairs and breastfeed their newborns, Millie Dalton and Albert Jr.

Laura, Rachel and Mary attend to the other older children, "Don't worry you little tykes we are getting breakfast ready," Laura says to the children.

An hour later breakfast is ready. Mrs. Cohen, The eight couples, their children and grandchildren are seated. Laura says Grace then the families begins to eat their hot breakfast of biscuits and gravy and sausage.

Outside the Wilder Boarding House the sun is now fully up.

The big happy family spends the whole morning together before heading back to their individual homes on the afternoon stagecoach.

Epilogue.

Somewhere in two separate reddish areas and as before a new cycle of life has begun.

Sperm has found ovum (an egg). The object goes to a reddish side in the uterus beginning to slowly grow.

In the kitchen for a brief moment Caroline and Nancy feels like they are fertile but not saying anything they both just smile and thinks to themselves...
