Author's Note: Hey! This is an AU story where Remus and Tonks live. The characters are introduced in my previous story, The Potter's Time Traveling Escapades, but this story will give a further explanation of the lives Remus and Tonks should have lived. This story follows AJ, their third child, through out Hogwarts. There may be some chapters from different POVs, but it should mostly be him. Hope you enjoy!
Teddy- 17
Hope-15
AJ-11
Sirius-6
Alastor John Lupin awoke one morning to the smell of the breakfast his dad was cooking. He stared up to the Caerphilly Catapults poster on his ceiling for a few moments before pushing himself out of bed and walking towards the mirror above his dresser. He flattened his light brown hair, so it did not look too disheveled before heading downstairs. He walked past his older siblings', Hope and Teddy, rooms, both of them still appearing to be sleeping. However his six year-old brother's, Sirius, door was open, as well as his parents. It was a Saturday in July, therefore his mum did not have work at the ministry, and his dad was home from Hogwarts.
AJ enjoyed having his dad and siblings back home in Wales, it got incredibly boring and quiet without them. AJ normally dreaded September because of the quiet the school year would bring, but this year he could not wait for September 1st. He had turned eleven last November and would be attending Hogwarts this year. He hoped at least, he hadn't received his letter yet.
He was incredibly excited to attend Hogwarts, everything about it amazed him. The sorting, the classes, the teachers, the students, and of course, quidditch. He hoped he would eventually play quidditch for his house team, whichever house it was. He was hoping for Gryffindor, but he was going to miss people teasing his dad for being Head of Gryffindor with no children in Gryffindor. He would be fine with any house, but he least wanted Slytherin. There was nothing wrong with Slytherin itself, he admired his grandma Andy who was a Slytherin. However, his dad was Head of Gryffindor, Teddy was Hufflepuff, and Hope was Ravenclaw. AJ felt he would be alone if he were sorted into Slytherin. He would probably be separated from James as well, he had Gryffindor written all over home since they were kids. And Fred II had the boldness of his father and late uncle, he would probably make Gryffindor as well.
In the kitchen, AJ's mum, Dora, was sitting at the kitchen table reading papers for work, while his dad, Remus, made breakfast for everyone. Sirius sat at the table across from his mum, eating scrambled eggs.
"Mornin'," said Sirius through a mouth filled with scrambled eggs.
"Don't talk with food in your mouth, Sirius," said Remus before turning to AJ. "Good morning, want eggs or anything?"
"Scrambled please."
AJ sat down next to Sirius and waited for his breakfast. Remus set down a plate in front of AJ, when Hope walked in the kitchen. Her long light pink hair was tied back in a loose braid, and sleep was still visible in her light brown eyes. "Good morning all"
"Morning, Hope. Want me to make you some eggs, asked Remus.
"Nah thanks I think I'll just have some toast," she replied, reaching for the loaf of bread on the counter.
Just then, from outside the window, they heard the owl coming towards the window. The owl flew through the window and dropped four letters, one each addressed to Remus, Teddy, Hope, and AJ. The green ink scrawled across the envelope signified that it was from Hogwarts, AJ felt relief and excitement wash over him. Tonks gave the owl a treat and it left through the window.
"Sirius, go wake your brother up," said Tonks.
Sirius got up from his chair and ran to wake up Teddy. AJ reached out and grab his letter, carefully tearing open the envelope. He pulled out that paper that read:
Dear Mr. Lupin,
We are pleased to inform you that you have been accepted at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Please find enclosed a list of all necessary books and equipment. Term begins on September1. We await you owl no later than July 31.
Yours sincerely,
Filius Flitwick
Deputy Head Master
AJ read the letter over several more times, still not believing that it was finally happening. He felt a hand on his shoulder and looked up into the eyes of his father, "congratulations," he said with a smile. Sirius came barreling through the kitchen door with Teddy chasing close behind him. "Will you please tell your son that waking me up does not mean screaming in my ear," said Teddy, exasperated.
"Did he really scream in your ear, or are you just being dramatic as always," said Hope, sitting down at the table and grabbing her letter from the pile.
"I'm not dramatic," argued Teddy.
"No she's right you are incredibly dramatic," said Remus. "Last week when I made chicken for dinner you said 'If I have to eat this again I will pass away. Do you really want to be responsible for your son's death?'"
"Fine. But I'm serious this time," said Teddy.
Tonks sighed, "Sirius, don't scream in your brother's ear when you wake him up."
Teddy walked over to the counter and poured himself some coffee before grabbing his letter from the pile. He opened it and pulled out the letter, but something fell from the envelope before clashing loudly on the floor. He bent down and picked up the gold and black Head Boy badge, a look of pure shock on his face. AJ with his mouth agape, turned to look at Hope only to see she was staring at a blue Prefect badge of her own.
"Congrats all of you," said Tonks as she stood up to hug her three eldest children, "I'm so proud of all of you."
"Thanks mum," said Ted, "I'm going to call Amaryllis."
Amaryllis Knox was Teddy's girlfriend. She was in his year and was also a Hufflepuff. She had long auburn hair and freckles, and she was very pretty. However, she could be what one would call, a bitch, at times. AJ called her that in front of Hope once and was told, that while it was true, to not call a girl that. So he never said it again, but that doesn't mean he never thought about it.
Teddy walked out of the kitchen and up the stairs, closing the door to his room behind him. AJ turned to his mum, "when can we go to diagon alley? Can we go today?"
"You opened your letter five minutes ago," laughed Tonks. "We'll go next weekend."
"I have a staff meeting on Monday," said Remus, reading over his letter.
"Alright, maybe we could order takeout that night," suggested Tonks.
"Sounds good to me," replied Remus.
"I'm going to shower," announced Hope. She got up from her chair and walked out of the kitchen. AJ followed her, intending to go to his own room, but she pulled him into Teddy's room.
"Okay I have a problem," she said.
"What's the problem," asked Ted, who had just hung up his phone.
"I have a date tonight, and if I tell dad he's going to kill the kid before he has the chance to take me to dinner."
"Just say you're going to meet friends or something," suggested Ted.
"I can't. It's a boy from school and he lives in London, so he's using the floo network to get here."
"Maybe it won't be so bad. Mum probably won't let him grill him too hard," said Ted.
"I hope you're right because he's already terrified that he's taking his professor's daughter on a date."
"So, who's he lucky guy," inquired Ted, eyebrows raised.
"Not you too," groaned Hope.
"Hey, I'm only wondering who I'm dealing with if the night doesn't end well," said Teddy. He smirked, "or if ends too well."
"Don't be a perv," said Hope.
"Alright, alright, but who is he," asked Ted.
"Anthony Carmichael."
"Gryffindor quidditch captain? Is he your year," asked Ted.
"Year above. He does well enough in dad's class, so hopefully he won't be too rough on him."
"Hope, you've never even brought a guy home. It may not be as bad as you think it will be," said Ted.
"Ted, he grills the girls you bring home. I'm the daughter he's going to be a lot tougher on me. You've seen the way he acted when he figured out a boy had a crush on me in muggle primary school. This is an actual date with my actual boyfriend."
"Wait," said Ted, "he's your boyfriend. Since when?"
"Who has a boyfriend," they all turned to the doorway to see Sirius. Great. The six year-old had the loosest lips in the UK. Their parents loved it, they had tags on them at all times. However, the other Lupin children learned rather quickly to not let anything slip to him.
"Erm...no one," said Hope.
"That's a lie," complained Sirius, "do you have a boyfriend, Hope?"
Hope sighed, "Sirius, listen to me. You can't tell mum and dad, but yes. Yes I have a boyfriend."
"YOU HAVE A BOYFRIEND! GROSS!"
"Sirius-"
"Boyfriend?"
Everyone looked up and into the hazel eyes of Remus Lupin, one eyebrow raised looking to all four of his children. He leaned against the door frame and crossed his arms, waiting for someone to start explaining everything.
"Yes dad, a boyfriend," sighed Hope.
"Yours," he's asked. Hope hesitantly nodded. "Who is it?"
"Anthony Carmichael."
"Carmichael, huh."
"Yes and we have a date tonight."
"A date? Where to? Will I get to speak with him before hand?"
"Dad-"
"Hope, you're my daughter, he's my student, and you two are dating. I would like to speak to him."
"Fine, but don't scare him off."
"I'll try not to."
"Actually," began Ted, "I would like to speak to him too."
"Ted-"
"Hope, you're my baby sister, I want to make sure he isn't going to treat you like a dick."
Hope rolled her eyes. AJ looked at her, "actually I want to meet this Anthony kid also."
"Oh my fu-"
"Language," cut in Remus.
"Fine, I'll tell him to come over early so you all can strike fear into his heart and make sure no one else touches me for the rest of my existence, happy?"
"That's the plan," said Remus. "I am going to go and talk with your mother, have fun up here and don't start arguing."
"I'm going to go pick out an outfit for dinner," said Hope, standing up to leave the room.
"Remember, modest is hottest," said Ted with a smirk.
Hope stuck her middle finger up at him before leaving the room in a huff. Teddy looked at AJ, "this is going to be hilarious. As much as I'm going to act angry and tough with him, Anthony is a nice guy. Hope is probably right in saying he's terrified of dad right now, but he'll lighten up eventually."
"Dad or Anthony?"
"Yes."
It was six o'clock in the evening, and Remus, Teddy, AJ, and Sirius were all sitting on the couch waiting for their guest to arrive. Remus looked as if he was plotting this boy's murder at this very moment. Tonks walked in the room, "For Merlin's sake guys, can you not make it seem as if the kid's facing the Wizengamot when he walks through the fire place."
"He's taking our daughter on a date, Dora."
"I'm well aware what he's doing, Remus, but she's fifteen, this stuff happens. You need to learn to step back and let her go. You also know the kid, and you didn't say anything bad about him when we talked about this earlier."
"I don't care if I know him, and I'm not letting this go."
"Whatever," she said with and eye roll, "as for the rest of you, calm down."
"He could be doing unspeakable things to our sister, mum," said Ted.
"No. Don't say that, please," groaned Remus.
The conversation ceased when Hope began to walk down the stairs. She was wearing a white sundress with small, yellow flowers on it, as well as a pair of light brown sandals. She wore her hair blonde with a slight curl at the bottom.
"You look pretty," said Sirius.
"Thanks, Siri," Hope replied.
"When will he be here," asked Teddy.
"Any minute now," replied Hope, "and please, don't scare him off."
"Well we'll see-," but Teddy was cut off by the green flames erupting from the fireplace. Out stepped Anthony Carmichael, a tall, tan boy with dark brown hair and eyes. He had freckles decorating his face and was fairly muscular. He was holding a bouquet of an assortment of flowers, which he gave to Hope and hugged her.
"Hey, I've missed you," he said.
Hope responded with, "I missed you too, and thanks for the flowers."
"Of course."
Remus cleared his throat, and Tonks narrowed her eyes at him. Anthony let go of Hope before he turned to Remus, "hello Professor Lupin. How has your summer been."
"Just fine, yours?"
"Great," he turned to Tonks, "it's great to meet you Mrs. Lupin."
"You as well, Anthony," she replied, giving him a smile.
He then turned to Teddy, AJ, and Sirius, "how have you been, Ted?"
"Alright."
"Good to hear, and you two must be AJ and Sirius."
"Yep," said Sirius, popping his p, "I'm Sirius and I'm six!"
"Well it's very nice to meet you," he said shaking his hand which he then extended to AJ, who shook his hand with a smile.
"Well," said Hope, "should we get to dinner then?"
"Actually i would like to speak to Anthony in private," said Remus, who then led Anthony to the kitchen. Hope look to Ted and rolled her eyes. They returned a few moments later, but Anthony looked a bit paler. He turned to Hope, "ready?"
"Yep," she took his arm, "bye guys I'll be back later."
"Have fun," said Tonks, "don't stay out too late."
"Okay." And then they were gone.
It was around nine o'clock when Hope and Anthony reached the front porch. Remus and Teddy gathered up against the window, so AJ followed them. Hope and Anthony were talking on the front porch, AJ felt his father tense as Anthony bent down and kissed her. They all backed away from the window and sat on the couch when the front door opened.
"Did you guys have fun," asked Tonks when they walked into the living room.
"It was great," said Hope with a smile. She turned back to Anthony, " I'll see you at diagon alley next weekend."
"Of course," he replied. He turned to the rest of the room, "it was great meeting you all. If I don't see you before then, have a great summer professor."
Remus nodded, "you as well Anthony."
Anthony walked over and flooed out of their house. Hope then turned to Remus, "what did you tell him before we left, he was looking a bit sick for a good twenty minutes."
"I was making sure of his intentions."
"And?"
"And i told him if he tries anything, he has to answer to me, his professor whom he has to see in school everyday."
Hope rolled her eyes, "I'm going to get into my pajamas." She climbed the stairs and shut the door to her room.
"Remus, you have to calm down," said Tonks.
"I just don't want her to get hurt."
"She's fifteen, Remus, Anthony probably won't last and the next bloke probably won't either. Eventually she will get hurt, everyone does, but you can't hold her hand through everything."
Remus nodded and Tonks patted his knee, "good I'm going to go talk to her." She stood up from the couch and made her way to Hope's room.
Remus turned to his sons, "forget lycanthrope, this might be the thing that kills me."
I hope you enjoyed this first chapter! They probably won't always be this long, but I'm going to try and make them longer than my last series. Anyways, stay tuned for the next chapter!
Also, I'm and only child, so I don't know how sibling relationships work, but I hope I did alright.
