What is that?

Ace thought as he stared out over the sea.

There's no way there's someone out here right?

He stood from where he had been sitting on the engine of the Striker and started to turn in a slow circle. As he turned he saw exactly what he had expected. Nothing. The Striker continued to bob on the surface of the sea with not even the hint of a ship or island on the horizon. But even though there was nothing to be seen Ace could still hear the voice of a woman singing carrying across the waves.

"Ok cool. I'm just going crazy. Great." Ace said to himself before huffing a sigh and turning around to face the front of his tiny boat.

But as he did so he was met with a pair of bright green eyes staring back at him. Resting on the bow of the Striker was a woman with her arms folded on the edge of the boat and her head resting on her arms. Their eyes met and Ace blinked dumbly at her as she stared back in silence.

"Um. Hi?" He said.

She tilted her head slightly to the side as a hint of a smile began to form on her face.

Ace looked around again and when he didn't see, or sense, any other beings in the area he turned back to his visitor. "I- uh, I'm Ace."

Her smile grew into an almost wicked thing as she said, "Hello Ace."

"Was that you singing earlier?"

"Oh did you hear me?" She asked. "How embarrassing. I thought I was all alone out here."

"Well you sounded great. And don't worry it's just me, no one else around." He said with an awkward laugh as he rubbed the back of his neck.

"I noticed that. Why are you all alone out here? Surely you've heard the… stories." She said as she began to twirl a lock of her long, golden hair around a sharp claw tipped finger.

"My crew said some things but I've never been one for superstitions."

"Maybe you should be." She said.

Behind her a long, black tail slowly rose from the water just enough to show the row of sharp looking spines running down the center of it.

Ace's eyes traveled from the finned end of the tail up to the row of spines that continued up the length of the tail and onto the woman's back. "Are you a mermaid? I don't think I've ever seen a tail like that." He tried to joke.

The wom-creature laughed darkly and smiled again as she said, "Oh no. I'm no mermaid, I'm something else entirely. But I understand your confusion, it's so easy to mix up our species."

"Right. Then if you're not a mermaid then you have to be a siren." He said.

A broad smile full of sharp teeth spread across the siren's face before she let out a light, tinkling laugh. "I'll see you around sailor boy."

She dropped off the edge of the boat, and dove deep underwater so fast that Ace was left questioning if she had even been there in the first place.

"Ok then." He slapped his cheeks lightly before shaking his head and setting his feet on fire. "Definitely going crazy. I should get back to the ship."

As the Striker shot across the sea the siren poked her head out of the water just enough for her eyes to be above the water line. She watched as his ship soon disappeared into the distance.

This one could be fun…

So yeah, what is Ariadne was an actual siren? Anyone interested? Might want to continue this? Maybe?
