It was just a normal day for the Cooper Gang. It had been 3 months since the defeat of Clock-La. Sly was reading Dracula by Bram Stoker in his room. Bentley was researching the ILoveYou computer virus in his room. And Murray was watching Hulk Hogan on his TV. Murray was laying on his bed. He couldn't stop thinking about his van. The Cooper Van had been the Cooper Gang's mode of transportation for 2 years. The gang first found the Cooper Van in a old junkyard. The dealer loaned the car out to the Cooper Gang. Murray immediately loved the van.
So, the Cooper Gang kept the Cooper Van. It had been that way for 2 years. Until 3 months ago, when The Cooper Gang had to stow away in an old Northern Light battery in Canada. The Cooper Van was somehow frozen in a block of ice without any explanation. Murray cried when he saw his pride and joy, the Cooper Van, drifting away of a sheet of ice.
Ever since then, the pink hippopotamus had been thinking non stop about his van. He'd been also been depressed about Bentley's crippling depression. Murray's turtle friend had been crippled during Clock-La's defeat. He was permanently confined to a wheelchair for the rest of his life. Murray was sad at the fact that he hadn't been able to help Bentley sooner, despite the fact that both he and Sly were at Bentley's aid when they tried to remove the hate chip form Clock-La's beak.
Sly and Bentley tried to comfort and console their hippo friend. It didn't really work. Now, the pink hippopotamus just layed there, watching wrestling on his television in his room. After a while, there was a knock oh his door. It was his raccoon friend, Sly Cooper. Murray opened the door for Sly. Sly walked in through the door. Murray's bedroom in the Cooper Gang hideout was full of magazines and VHS tapes along with other things. The bed was full of potato chips and soft drinks. Sly sat down next to Murray on the bed.
"So, What's up, Murray?" Sly asked his hippo friend.
"I miss my van very much." Murray said to Sly. "The van meant a lot to me and the gang."
"It meant a lot to us, too." Sly said. "We can get ourselves a new van."
"I don't want a new van, Sly." Murray said. "I want my van back."
"I know that you really want the van back, Murray. But, we can't do anything about it, right now." Sly assured Murray. "We'll just have to get ourselves a new vehicle until we can find the old Cooper Van."
"Okay." Murray said. "I guess I'll have to get myself a new car temporarily until we can find the Cooper Van."
"That's the spirit!" the raccoon said cheerfully to his friend.
There was a sudden knock on the front door of the Cooper Gang hideout. Sly and Murray walked down the hall to the front door. Sly opened the door. Standing in the door was an elderly male rabbit. The rabbit had white fur. He had blue eyes. He wore a plaid long sleeved shirt, with jeans. The rabbit looked to be around his mid-sixties.
"Hi, my name is Jerome." the elderly rabbit said to the raccoon and hippo standing in the doorway. "Are you in the market for a brand new car?"
"Uh, yeah. Kind of." the hippo said to the elderly rabbit.
"Follow me." Jerome said to both the raccoon and the hippo.
Sly and Murray followed the rabbit to the garage area of the Cooper Gang hideout. He turned on the button that opened up the garage door. It was dusk outside in the city of Paris, France. The lights in the garage automatically turned on. A red 1958 Plymouth Fury sat there in the garage, facing directly at Sly and Murray. The car looked sleek and polished. It looked as if somebody bought it off the dealership in mint condition. The raccoon and hippo were in shock. The car looked brand new.
"What do you guys think of the car?" Jerome asked the raccoon and hippo.
"I think that the car is amazing!" Murray excitedly to the rabbit.
"Would you guys like to buy this car from me?" Jerome asked Sly and Murray.
"YES!" Murray and Sly said enthusiastically.
"Ok." Jerome said. "How much do you want to pay for the car?"
"I don't know, Jerome." Murray said. "How about I pay $2,000 for the car?"
"$2,000." Jerome said. "Ok, we have a deal."
Murray conjured up $2,000 out of nowhere and give the money to the rabbit. The rabbit accepted the payment and started to walk away from the raccoon and the hippo. Before he walked away from them, the rabbit turned around and said to Sly and Murray, "I would be very careful about the car if I were you guys. I heard rumors that the car is supposedly possessed by a demonic spirit."
The rabbit walked away from Sly and Murray. Sly and Murray found the keys to the old 1958 Plymouth Fury car near the headlights. They opened up the car door. Sly and Murray both went inside car. The interior of the old car was clean and shiny. It looked brand new. Murray sat in the driver's seat, while Sly sat in the passenger seat. The car was not a stick shift. It was a regular shifting car. Murray was used to driving vehicles with a stick shift. Murray started up the car with the ignition key. The car started up pretty nicely. The radio turned on. The song: Little Bitty Pretty One by Thurston Harris started to play.
The song was featured in a scene of the movie Matilda, specifically the scene in which Matilda first discovers her telekinetic powers. Murray put the car in drive and drove out of the open garage. Through the windshield, Murray and Sly could see Bentley sitting there in shock of the new car. The two animals drove past Bentley. They decided to take the 1958 Plymouth Fury car out for a joyride. They drove around the streets of Paris. After a while, Murray drove back to the hideout. Once they parked near the front door of the hideout, both Sly and Murray get out of the car. The 2 animals walked toward the front door of their hideout. They opened up the door to find Bentley watching TV.
Once the handicapped turtle heard his two friends entering the hideout, he wheeled himself toward Sly and Murray.
"Where the hell were you guys?" Bentley asked Sly and Murray. "And why do we have a brand new car?"
"Me and Murray were joyriding around Paris in our new car that we got off an old rabbit." Sly explained to Bentley. "Are you excited that we got a brand new car?"
"Yes." Bentley said. "I'm pretty excited at the fact that we now have a new vehicle for us to drive around in."
"Good." Sly said. "Glad you like the new car."
Sly and Murray both went down the hall to their rooms. Bentley went out to check out the new vehicle that Sly and Murray obtained. Little did the COoper Gang knew that the 1958 Plymouth Fury automobile would soon become their worst nightmare in the following days.
