I still couldn't believe Bella joined the cheer squad; and a sophomore at that; not that she wasn't coordinated or anything (okay maybe a little) but I just always saw her as more of a tomboy. It was quite cool actually that she had surprised us all and embraced this favorable high school experience. Rosalie joined the cheer squad many years ago but we very soon learned keeping a low profile was in our better interest, plus those girls could get really mean; not that Rosalie couldn't handle it; more so that she could handle them, a little too well, which caused issues. Bella spent all of middle school on a private soccer team and greatly excelled at it - thanks to her awesome coach who also happened to be her older brother-yours truly. Bella gave her all in soccer as she grew up playing around a bunch of vampires. It was endearing how hard she would try even when the times when we weren't trying the least bit to our maximum capability. Unfortunately Summit High, the private school Bella was attending this year, didn't have a soccer team. We were currently in Colorado and though the school was a good size it was just one of the sports they didn't offer. Bella didn't show that she was bothered but we all knew she was devastated as she hoped it would help her make new friends. When Rose gave her the idea to cheer the whole family burst into a fit of giggles. Little to our sense, Bella did not giggle. She instead took it as a challenge, an athletic challenge at that and started working all summer on tumbling and coordination. Welp, she made the team alright, and she was awesome. I was so proud to watch her every game. I didn't know it could be so athletically impressive but even I helped Bella with some of her tumbles and embraced the sport. She would even stay up with me some nights watching the biggest cheer competitions in the country. When I slipped in a dvd of Bring it on, Bella and I were in stitches we were laughing so hard. We have been quoting the movie ever since. Tonight was an important game against her rival high school. Edward came along too; always the supportive friend Bella needed. He always came to the games though unlike me didn't find any interest in the football or the cheer; he simply came for Bella.
"She's gonna do the thing again watch Edward"
"What thing?"
"She always points to you when she flies just before they catch her."
"They all do" he pointed out
"Yea. But she looks at you when she does it bro; she's funny, just wait"
They launched Bella up into the air and as they did their usual cheer, Bella did her point and wink at Edward. It was a nice gesture and I suspected it was to show him some gratitude for coming every night to support her. Bella was always like that. Making everyone around her feel loved. Especially Edward who she never wanted to be neglected, being the loner of the family. I suppose Bella took some sort of empathy towards that fact growing up with us. They were incredibly close. Whenever Bella was a child and had a bad dream it was Edward she ran to first. When Bella had a scrape or a fall it was always Edward to pick her up. Best friends. I wondered how Edward would take it when Bella had to actually grow up and have the whole high school experience. Would he be overprotective or would he be the shoulder to cry on when a boy broke her heart.
"Boo!" Bella shrieked behind me
"You are aware of the fact that you lack the ability of any surprise attack on us?"
" But! I can pretend!"
...hey- let's get out of here" she smirked

Edwards pov
As we walked up the bleachers and through the dimly lit parking lot to the car Bella jumped on my back and I carried her the rest of the way.
"Here's a snack -I figured you'd be hungry"
"Chips! Can I even eat this in the Aston?" Bella playfully frowned "Where is the Volvo anyway?"
"Rose is working on it, she's adding some new turbo that just came on the market"
"um sweet... I'll just wait till I get home"
"Hey do you want us to take you to eat something?"
"um yes please! We should go to that spot with the arcade! please! I can just grab a bite there"
"Ok Bells, but why didn't you go to Sarah's party? I heard you tell the squad you were busy" Emmet asked
"Umm- cause Sarah is mean, I wasn't planning on making friends with her anytime soon. I much rather hang with you guys. She told Iris her clothes were ugly - for no reason! Iris is my friend from band class and I just cannot be friends with someone like that... "
"Alright Bella but I will destroy you in bowling I'm not even holding back this time its gonna be all strikes " Emmet boasted
"Whatever " Bella smiled

School was insufferable on Mondays, especially around a bunch of hormone fueled humans. The Cullens really overrated how much fun I would have around my kind. There were however a few interesting kids in my band class who I found easy to be around and would consider friends. They liked a lot of specific oddball things many of which I would become more familiar with after spending most of lunchtime with them. They didn't try as hard as the other kids, they were who they were, and they weren't desperate about it, even if it made them less "popular", it made them infinitely cooler in my eyes.
Everyone thought I was gonna make friends with the squad but I rather go shopping with Alice for a whole month than do that. The girls on the team were just plain mean and felt they were superior- for what? Because they cheered? Honestly I was only on the team because I truly liked to cheer. It grew on me when I took an interest in it with Em. If it was only for the company I would prefer to be in marching band but I would be doing that during spring- sometimes it couldn't come soon enough.

"Hey how was practice?"
Edward always picked me up from Saturday morning practices. Sometimes he would catch the last 10 minutes to let me know he was here and I could make a quick escape once it ended.
"Well I'll be sore tomorrow... "
"Uh good? Any plans for today.."
"Nope. Just High Tower tonight with Jasper, Emmet and Alice- you are coming, right?"
"Yep- Ian's puzzle looked better though..."
"Oh the one about Germany? in the 1900's " I smiled
"Yeah the boring one" Edward replied
"I'll just come back by myself"
"Let's leave High Tower and watch it together" I urged
"Um, no? You love horror movies, I'll just wait for it Bella"
I rolled my eyes at him. Sometimes he was was so stubborn. I knew I would be successful at sneaking out with him so I just dropped it.
The family was getting ready to go out to the theater. Rosalie was braiding her hair for some reason that beats me. I threw on my SHS sweatshirt and some jeans. They were first taking me to one of my favorite spots to eat in town; a little hole in the wall called Sherrys. They had some amazing mushroom ravioli. We got a booth in the back and the family convincingly ordered meals for themselves to keep their cover. It was nice, having a whole family that was willing to go through the tedious motions of being a human- just so I could experience a sense of normalcy. I loved them more than anything; so much so that it hurt sometimes. I would do absolutely anything for any of them, which I knew would probably never physically be necessary, being the weak human and all, but I meant it nonetheless with every ounce of my beating human heart. They were absolutely everything to me and nights like these when we could all get a few laughs at each other and warm smiles was everything. I was the happiest girl in existence. As we finished up I grabbed a hold of Edwards arm in mine and squeezed as tight as I could. He gave me that side smile and a wink that caused my breath to suddenly hitch. I figured it was a normal reaction; being just overwhelmed with happiness being around the family- it was like too much to contain inside. His smile- his rare smile which hardly ever made an appearance- was the icing on a perfect night.. I smiled to myself as we entered the line for our tickets and when Emmet said High Tower I attempted to wink at Edward but he just rolled his eyes at me- okay rude- couldn't he show some appreciation!? As we entered the theater I knew we had 10 minutes after showtime to book it for Edward's movie. I kept checking my watch and Edward caught on.
"Bella you can't be serious"
I simply narrowed my eyes at him and held my ground, then gave him my biggest please smile bearing all my teeth- the one he had no defense over. It always worked. Always.
"don't." he said curtly
"Well I have to go the the bathroom and who knows how long before my return- see ya"
He rolled his eyes and I got up to stand by the theater door. A few people exited and not 5 minutes later a tall handsome dark haired guy wearing a grey hoodie strolled. Our mission was on!
I grabbed his cold hand like I always did and we walked up the aisle to find the right theater. The theater was completely empty, not a soul in sight. This was either going to be the most boring film in history or the film industry's best kept secret- I could hardly wait to find out. Edward led us to seats in the very back by the projector. When 5 minutes passed without a start I blew a piece of hair off my forehead in restlessness. I suddenly saw a terrifying pair of vicious vampire fangs appear on screen. I broke out into a burst of giggles when I saw the puppet master at work right next to me. I added a bunny hopping along minding its own business and Edward jumped on his chance to attack, gruesome. We settled back in our seats and the previews began. It started with a romantic preview; a drama about a young woman with purple hair who travels and finds love in another country. It had a sad vibe to it but I secretly wanted to watch it. Edward turned to give me a knowing look and I set my eyes back on the screen. The movie was actually really interesting, it was set in a different time so just paying attention to all the little details in the time when Edward was human at my age was fascinating and I wondered how much of it was accurate. I tried to soak up everything I could and about halfway though I mindlessly grabbed his hand; I held it in my lap while he rest of the film, drawing circles in it, I sensed this was calming to him.

Edward pov
Bella was entranced with the film. I was taken aback by her deep interest in such an insipid topic, it was about the worlds first technological advancements during the first world war. Bella was 15 so I had no idea what about the film she took such interest in. I was glad for her company- that I could enjoy a film with someone - and someone who seemed to be as interested as I was which made me feel less guilty. I was worried Bella was doing this as a good deed to me, something unnecessary. Bella was the light of all of our lives ever since Carlisle took her in; our sunshine. She breathed new life into our home with a vibrancy so great even I was smiling everyday since her arrival. She touched all of our hearts and gave us a reason to view our frozen lives differently. It was amazing what change one human girl could bring to a family of 7 vampires. I would always love her for that.
I felt Bella gently place my right hand in hers halfway through. Her warmth calmed me, it always was this way with me. I didn't mind when she would hold onto me as she always had during her time with us; although now that she was getting older I was constantly growing more aware of how someday this was likely to change. I stopped grabbing for her hand years ago and only let Bella decide that. She was at a hard age; full of change and hormonal challenges. I never pretended to understand as I hardly remembered being that age myself and instead gave her as much privacy as I could. Distance slowly developed between us naturally but night's like tonight gave me hope that we would always remain close.
