Sanji stood in front of the mirror nervous. Zoro had agreed to the date so how could he not be nervous? He made sure he was clean shaved, his teeth brushed, his hair brushed, his clothes nice with no wrinkles. Everything had to be perfect, who knows what would happen if he fucked this up. That just couldn't happen. He will win Zoro's heart again.
As he got ready so did Luane. She made sure to pack some games and some pajamas and clothes for school. If their date went on long then they would be home late. If that's the case Sanji didn't want to wake Luane up and take her home so they had agreed that she could stay the night. It would be Luane's first sleepover, so she's excited. Zoro will be dropping her off at school in the morning so he could get some extra sleep, and it's been a long time since that's happened.
Sanji drove with Luane there. The whole ride Luane assured him it'll be all okay. Telling him to be himself and not worry to much, it'll all work out. Sanji thinks she's been watching to many romance movies with Nami.
With Luane by his side he went up the path to the door and knocked. He had nothing else in his mind but his plan for the date. The door opens to Zoro, which shocked Sanji, he thought Nami would be the one to open it. She's babysitting for them. Zoro stood there with his hair brushed back and a pea coat on but he saw the dress shoes and formal pants. Good, Zoro dressed formal like he asked.
Sanji smiled. "Are you ready?"
"Yeah. You can go in Luane, Arin set everything up and is just waiting for you." Zoro moves to the side as Luane runs in, fumbles with taking her shoes off and goes in with her overnight bag. Zoro closes the door behind him.
They walk to Sanji's car in silence. What do they talk about? Before they talked about cooking because of the small cooking class. They haven't had a class in a long time. Would Zoro want to start that again or not? He was teaching the marimo because he was getting ready to take care of Arin and Lili.
Sanji and Zoro buckle up. As Sanji starts the car Zoro turns to him, "Cook, I don't want to get your hopes up with this." He says.
"I understand but I told I'm not giving up."
"But why? I really thought you would just give up." Zoro says the last part quietly.
"I don't want to bury my feeling anymore." Sanji says.
"Okay." He says. He could understand that.
They drove a little more in silence. "So how's everything been with them?" Sanji asks.
Zoro smiles, "it went very smooth."
"Well if you need help with some cooking tips I'll help you out." Sanji says.
"I'm fine, but... I do want to make them sweets but I don't know how to bake." Zoro says pouting a little. Sanji laughs.
"Baking is a little more difficult than cooking but I think I could help. I know a thing or two about baking."
"Thanks." Zoro says.
Things were finally getting better. They made some more small talk. Talked about what Sanji experienced being abroad. The sights he's seen. Zoro couldn't relate he's been in the same place since he could remember.
Zoro asked about his experience with raising Luane by himself. It was hard by himself since he was just starting out so it was work then raising Luane when he got home. He found himself busy, until she got older. Her learning to walk was really a horrible time for him. He really had to watch her, afraid she might hurt herself somehow.
Sanji looked over to see Zoro seems to be enjoying the story. That was good, he didn't want to mess this up. The beginning was a little awkward but now it seems to be going well.
Sanji got a parking spot and escorted them to the front door of a very fancy and expensive looking restaurant. They walked in and immediately someone asked for their reservation. Zoro looked at Sanji as he was the one who set everything up.
"Vinsmoke." He said with a smile, Zoro knew that smile. It was his customer smile. The waiter gave him a smile similar to the one he got. They got seated near a window further away from the others. Zoro didn't mind, he didn't want to be around to many people.
The waiter asked for their coat. Sanji took his off first and then played with the cuff of his blazer as he turned to Zoro. He took off his coat very sensually. Sanji stared at Zoro for a while after the waiter went away to put their coats away.
"What?" Zoro asks as he sat down in his seat. Sanji scrambled to sit down too.
"It's nothing." Sanji picks up the menu and looks through it as he took quick peaks at Zoro. He wore a white dress shirt, black tie and a black vest. The sleeves to his shirt rolled up. His hair being brushed back adds to the look. Sanji knew Zoro could clean up well but forgot how well.
Sanji did notice a change in behavior on Zoro's part. In the car they were talking, very familiar with each other and now, it's rigid. He talk but it seemed like Zoro was only listening, he didn't really talk.
What went wrong? He thought they were getting along.
He didn't even want to tease him about how well his manners are. He did everything perfectly but then it wasn't how Zoro ate. He didn't stuff his cheeks or smile with pleasure as he ate something good. It seemed like he didn't like any of the food.
After that Sanji paid and they left with their jackets. They walked to the park, the same one Luane first met Zoro. They just stayed quiet walking around but Zoro seemed better.
So it was the restaurant. But what about it did Zoro not like? The food? The price?
"Zoro, do you hate me?" Sanji asks out of the blue.
"I don't hate you. Why would you think that?" Zoro looks at Sanji as they walk, his head down, blonde bangs covering his eyes.
"I just get the feeling you do, or was it the restaurant?"
"Sanji, I'm Zoro." Sanji looks at the marimo weirdly.
"Yes I know your name." Sanji says.
"I'm a simple person." Zoro says his eyes lock on something behind the blonde. He smiles. "Crepes." Zoro says. Sanji looks behind him and sees a small crepes shop. Sanji follows Zoro and pays for the banana and strawberry cream crepe.
Sanji watched as Zoro ate his with a lot of gusto, extremely different from how he was at the restaurant. Sanji ate his banana and chocolate contemplating what Zoro said.
So he doesn't hate him and he's a simple person.
Before he thought more about it the date had ended. Zoro left the park with a wave goodbye and a smile.
Well this date went to shit. He screwed up, something he planned so hard so it wasn't a mess ended a mess.
