Pain. The first thing Riley noticed was the pain. Her entire body felt like it got run over by a truck. What the hell happened? Then it hit her; she was on a plane.
Before she could even try to comprehend what happened, she heard screaming in the distance. Riley's instincts kicked in and she pulled herself up from the ground using a nearby tree. Thankfully, her legs and arms appeared to be fine except for a few cuts. She quickly checked the rest of her body and determined that she was okay despite the cuts she had littered all over her body.
Once Riley was satisfied that she was okay, she started running in the direction of the screaming. Pushing her way through what appeared to be a jungle, she quickly emerged to find what could only be described as devastation mixed with chaos.
A large portion of the plane was broken up on the beach while passengers continued to run around not knowing what to do. Some people were just staring in shock, others were running away from the wreckage, some were desperately searching for loved ones, and a few appeared to be dead.
During her quick assessment, Riley noticed a lot of injured people laying around. She took off running towards the area with most people when she saw two guys arguing over a body.
She made her way over to them and realized that they were arguing about proper CPR.
"Hey! What's going on? Do you guys need help?" Riley inquired.
"Do you actually know CPR?" The man in the suit asked her with a slight attitude before giving the younger male a dirty look.
"Yes, I'm in law enforcement." she responded quickly.
The man in the suit told Riley to take over for him so he could get a quick break.
She got down on her knees and began to give chest compressions and rescue breaths. About a minute into giving CPR, the woman woke up coughing. She sighed in relief.
The man in the suit told the woman to take deep breaths before running off towards more screaming.
Riley looked back at the woman to make sure that she was okay and followed the man in the suit's lead and tried to find more people to help.
She ran over towards the fuselage to see if anyone was stuck inside. There were numerous bodies still stuck in their seats, but none of them appeared to be moving. One by one Riley made her way to each body to check for a pulse. After checking the tenth body, she sighed. Not one survivor.
After everything had calmed down as much as it was going to, Riley decided to try and find the Marshal. She vaguely remembered him being unconscious and the man in the suit looking at his wounds while she was trying to help other survivors. If he was that injured, she needed to find his gun before anyone else could.
Riley scanned the beach looking for either Mars or the guy in the suit. The guy in the suit appeared to be concerned about everyone's well being earlier when she saw him, so he was probably with the Marshal.
Sure enough, down the beach Riley saw the man in the suit kneeling over a guy in a white shirt and black pants. Calmly she made her way down the beach towards them. On her way, she passed numerous other survivors. Most of whom were just sitting and standing around while a few were starting to put together what looked like a signal fire. The closer Riley got to the pair, the more sure she was that the body was the Marshal, and that he was probably going to die.
The man in the suit didn't even notice her right away because he was too focused on the piece of mental stuck in Mars. The wound did not look good by any means.
Riley decided to make herself known, "Hey, I don't think we properly got acquainted earlier" she said.
The man in the suit looked up and smirked once he realized who she was. "No, I guess not. I'm Jack, Doctor" he said as he reached out his clean hand to shake hers.
Riley smiled and returned the gesture. "I'm Riley."
"You said you were law enforcement right?" Jack questioned.
"Yes, FBI actually" Riley responded, the lie coming out of her naturally. She was used to lying and bending the truth after all these years. It was like second nature to her.
Jack raised his eyebrows as he responded, "Oh wow, government huh?"
Riley chuckled at his response, "Yeah. I get that a lot." Perfect, he was none the wiser that she wasn't being completely honest. Although, she didn't know these people and they didn't know her, why would they be expecting her to lie?
She needed to get back on track and look for Mars' gun. "How's he doing?" Riley asked, pointing to the Marshal.
Jack returned his gaze to the Marshall's wounds. He sighed before responding. "Well, he's been unconscious the whole time." Jack paused before continuing, "I can't tell how bad the injury is inside, but my best guess is he should be okay as long as rescue gets here soon."
Riley felt a little bit of relief, she needed Mars alive. "That's good," she responded.
"Do you need a break or any help?" She questioned motioning to the Marshall.
Jack went to respond, but glanced back at Mars and sighed. "You know what… could you keep an eye on him for a second?"
"Of course doc." Perfect, now she had the chance to check Mars for his weapon.
As soon as Jack turned away, Riley began searching Mars. First his sides, looking for his holster, but she came up empty. The only other place was his ankle. She quickly patted down both ankles, glancing up to make sure no one was looking. On his right ankle, Riley felt a bulge. She lifted up his pant leg slightly only to find an empty holster. Shit. Either the gun fell out of his holster, which was very unlikely, or someone else found his gun first.
