Wherever you are

"I'm supposed to change for you? Why because we're in love? I mean, because you fall in love all the time—men, women…"

"You have a huge heart and I Love that about you, but I don't trust you, why would I?"

The words of Arizona did not fall on deaf ears, but instead, it had fallen and engraved into Callie's mind…and heart. Trust. That was the first thing she gave Arizona, even before the I love yous and to hear her say she did not trust her broke all of Callie's resolve and she ran away, that is after the shooter was caught. Laying down on an empty on-call room, she thought about the past few years she's had in Seattle. Falling in Love, Marriage, Cheating, Divorce, Fuck Buddy then finding her sexuality and Falling in Love again only to be left behind, again. Not to mention the countless Deaths she's encountered.

'Damn it' She thought. Of course, there were happy times too. She got to meet amazing people, hell, she even got herself 2 best friends here, Mark and Addie, and she really have the best mentors and colleagues. A ring in from her phone is what brought her out of her thoughts.

"Hello? Callie is that you?" Callie was shocked to hear the person on the other line.

"Mama O'Malley? Hi…Hello, yes this is Callie, is everything okay?" Callie asks, concerned with the sudden phone call.

"Yes dear, everything's All right here… I heard what happened, how are you?"

"I'm great mama" Lie. "thanks for checking up on me. I really miss you" that one was not a Lie though.

"I miss you too dear… I called for another reason; I know you had a long day, but I just wanted to let you know that we're holding a service for George's anniversary this year. Just some prayer with close family. I wanted to ask if you would like to come?" Mama O'Malley asks. Callie was silenced at the request; she wasn't sure if she would like to come but she and George did share some good times together and with his family too.

"Sure mama, just send me the time and place and I'll be there…I gotta go now, but let's talk more soon" Callie didn't really have to go but she just wanted some space to herself.

"Okay take care always." She hangs up.

This was the first time she thought of George after a year and it just made her lonelier than earlier. She couldn't help but wonder what if George didn't die? He's probably kicking some ass in the Military Life. She laughs at the thought. George wasn't a good husband, but he surely is a good friend and doctor. She suddenly thought of the Military Life. What if she tries in too? Looking at the time on her phone, she decided that it was time to go home.

"Thanks for coming over Callie" Mama O'Malley says as Callie readies herself to get back home.

"No mama, it was my pleasure. Thank you for calling me over, I really needed the short break, but I'll have to go now…We still have some things to fix back at the Hospital." Callie smiles to the older woman.

"Of course, you do, Also, if you finally decided if you want to enlist too, don't forget to let me know huh? You're like my own child Callie, I'm worried too. Take Care Always." Mama says as she gives Callie a hug.

"Of course, Mama, I'll let you know. You take Care too." She answers as she gets on her car.

On the way back home, Callie thought of enlisting. Sure, it wouldn't be all peace and fun but at least she gets to have a breath of fresh air. No one will know her there, no judgements and certainly no bars where a woman or man to suddenly kiss her at the bathroom. She has decided, she will commit for a few months and decide where to go from there So instead of going straight home, she went to the office to sign papers to enlist as soon as possible.

In the Apartment, she readies the things she'll need. She was only given a big backpack for her things so she knew there weren't a lot that she can take. On the way home, she had ring up her parents, Mama O'Malley, Addison and even Derek to tell them about the enlistment. Carlos was against the idea of course and even Addie and Derek, worried of whatever might happen there, but she had assured them she's not going to be on the field and even made them promise not to tell anyone else about the news. After packing, she wasn't sure if she should call Mark, knowing they were still in a bad place after the event with Little Sloan, so she instead wrote a Letter, and a note for Bailey too, and slid it in his Apartment. As for Cristina, she just wrote some notes that simply said 'Enlisting Tomorrow. Idk how long I'll be gone but if you happen to have to move just Call my Dad for my things. He'll know what to do. Thank You Cristina, for a lot of things. Take Care of yourself while I'm gone. Try not to burn the kitchen. Ily.' and that's it. She's now gonna head to her dad's Hotel to relax a bit and Tomorrow, she'll fly out to Baghdad.

Stepping out of the plane, Callie took a deep breath.

This is it. Cheers for new Beginnings in Baghdad.
