AN: Here's chapter 6. Enjoy :D

CHAPTER 6

To say Kate was terrified was an understatement. She wasn't ready to be a mother. She couldn't take care of herself, but a child?! 'No, dad can't be right.'

'But what if he is?' Now Kate understood the idea of a good angel/ bad angel. It was like a fight in her head between… she didn't know between who. It was her. She asked the questions, and she got the answers? 'I must be crazy or something. Rick would have laughed now.'

"Oh my god, Rick!"

"Katie, is everything alright?" Jim asked his daughter concerned. "What about Rick?"

"Everything is fine. I was thinking out loud."

"Honey, you know you can tell us if something is bothering you."

Kate was conflicted. 'Well, they already know you might be pregnant. It doesn't hurt to ask them about it.'

'But what if they don't want to talk about this?'

Johanna and Jim looked at their daughter then at each other like they knew about the fight inside Kate's head.

"Sweetheart, whatever you decide we'll be here for you. If you're pregnant and you decide to keep the baby, we will help you in any way we can. If you don't want to keep it, we will still be by your side and we will love you the same."

"Exactly. And I know you almost banned me from saying it, but we will support you no matter what."

"I know dad. But it's not that."

"Then what? Come on, Katie, talk to us."

"I was thinking what I feel about the whole situation and how Rick would laugh and then I realized that-…Mom, what if I'm pregnant and Rick doesn't want the baby?"

So that's what this was about.

"Honey, please look at me. Now that's better. Sweetie, it doesn't matter what Rick thinks. I mean, yeah, he has something to say about this but it's you who should decide. What do you want?"

"Right now, I just want to find out what's wrong with me."

"Then if everything's okay, let's go to the doctor's cabinet."

Before Kate got in her parents' car, she got a text from Rick.

"I'm here no matter what. Please let me know what's going on when you get back from the doctor."

'Let's see if you think the same if what's wrong with me is something I fear the most.' Kate thought.

The Beckett family spent the entire ride to the doctor in silence, neither wanting to say something that would make the other feel bad.

When they arrived, they had to sign up to the reception and were told by the receptionist to wait in the waiting room for a nurse to come to them.

"Katherine Beckett?"

"That's us."

"Please come to room 6. Your parents can come with you."

"I think I'll wait here for you."

"No, dad. I want you there, please."

"Of course! Lead the way, ladies."

"Wait here. Doctor Robins will be with you in a few minutes."

"Thank you!" all three of them said at the same time.

"I'm nervous."

"Do you want to know the truth?" Jim asked his daughter. Both Kate and Johanna nodded.

"I'm nervous too because I know this is a lot for you right now."

"To be honest dad, I'm more terrified than nervous, but I'm trying to keep my shit together."

"Language!" her parents chastised her.

"You know I'm an adult, right?" Kate said laughing.

"Yeah, well, that doesn't give the right to talk like that, young lady!" her mother retorted.

Before Kate could think of a reply doctor Robins came into the office.

"Hello, I'm doctor Hannah Robins. You should be Kate." She said while looking at Jim.

"No, I- I'm…I'm Kate-" Jim cleared his throat. That made the women in his life laugh again. "I'm Kate's father." He recovered quickly. Is this doctor blind!? How can she not see that he's a man?!

"I can tell." Said doctor Robins chuckling. "I tried to ease the tension in the room. Sometimes it can be too much being in this room so I'm trying to make the patients feel more like they are with a friend, not with a doctor."

"Thank you. It means a lot. Now, I'm Kate and these two are my parents, Jim and Johanna." Said Kate more confidently than she felt.

"You don't have to put on a brave face. Not for me and not for your parents. You're allowed to feel everything you're feeling right now. You're allowed to be scared, to be nervous, to cry."

Kate was shocked. She never felt so exposed in her entire life.

'Now, now. That's not true. You were even more exposed. That's how you got in this situation, isn't it?' her 'bad' angel teased her.

'It's so not the time for you. Look at her face. She's terrified. Leave her alone.' And just like that, her 'bad/good' angels disappeared.

"You're probably wondering how I know what you're feeling. Well, first of all, been there done that. And secondly, I'm living with a psychologist and I learned a trick or two."

'Doctor Robins really knows how to make someone feel better.' Kate thought amused by the older woman's behavior. She felt like all her insecurities were gone, even for a few minutes.

"I already know why you are here, obviously, but what's wrong?"

"I felt sick for the last few days and my dad thought that I might be pregnant, so my mom suggested to come here today."

"I'm glad you did. Now we are going to draw some blood tests to see if your dad was right. Are you okay with it?"

"Yes. How long will it take? I want to find out sooner rather than later."

"Only a few minutes. Now if you'll excuse us, Kate and I need to go to the other room to get the tests done."

"Of course." "We'll be right here." The Becketts seniors answered in unison.

"I see that you came in here today with your parents. So, no partner to support you?"

"He doesn't know yet and he's currently studying in Los Angeles. I wanted to be sure when I'm going to tell him. I don't know if he wants kids or not, because we didn't talk about this. And to be honest, I don't know either. We haven't been together for long, so I don't know."

"You have to do what you want to do, not what others want you to, so take some time and think about it."

'Weird. It's like she knows what mom told me earlier.'

"You'll feel a small pinch and then we will be done."

"Aand, we're done. You can go to the waiting area, and I will be back with the results in a few minutes."

"Thank you, doctor Robins."

When she got in the same room with her parents, she went straight in her fathers' arms like she did when she was little.

"Is everything okay?"

"It is now," Kate said when she felt her mom joining the hug.

"Doctor Robins said we have to wait a few more minutes and she will be back with the results."

"I like this doctor." Said Jim and Johanna gave him 'the look'. Something he saw Kate inherited from her mother.

"Noo, not like that. She made Katie feel better in an instant. That means she's good at her job."

"Thank you, Mr. Beckett. Or should I say "grandpa"?"

"Grandpa?"

"Yes. I think congratulations are in order."

AN: I kinda maybe forgot to post this chapter. Work has been a lot lately, and to be honest, some days I even forget to eat. But enough about me. I hope you all are safe.

Let me know what you think about it.
