Houston, Texas – 1847

The Whitlock family was welcoming a new baby boy into the family but it was anything but a happy moment. During his birth, his mother died. She couldn't handle the birth of her newest son and the father was anything but happy with his newest son. He was blaming the death of his wife on his baby boy. The only one who was happy with the newest addition was his older brother, Jasper. He was only 3 years old when his little brother, Caleb, was born but he already felt a strong connection to him. His father on the other hand was looking at his new son as a burden he is stuck with now and it made him unhappy having to deal with two boys now on his own.

1857:

Caleb was 10 years old and Jasper was 12 years old. Since he was born there father wanted nothing to do with them. He doesn't acknowledge he has two sons and spends his days drinking. There father was a very abusive man. He mostly beat and torture Caleb every day and night. It's been like this since he was only 3 years old. The one person that takes care of Caleb is Jasper. He tries to protect him from there father but there father also beat on Jasper and if he did try to stop there father from hurting Caleb or torturing him he would hurt Jasper even more.

It was another night that Caleb's father came home drunk and angry. When he got home he grabbed Caleb out of bed and dragged him by his hair into the barn out back. Caleb was scared like he was all the time when it came to there father. He never knew what he would have in mind for him and he knew Jasper couldn't stop him.

Caleb's father slams him against the wall and forces him to take his shirt off. Caleb tries to not cry but he couldn't help it but he knew crying makes it worst. Caleb's father takes the belt he leaves in the barn off of the ground and he grips it into his hand and starts hitting Caleb really hard with it and keeps hitting him over and over again. Caleb lets out a horrible scream. The pain was unbearable for him to take. When his father was finally done he leaves Caleb on the ground crying and bleeding.

Jasper heard what was going on outside but he knew not to get into the middle of it or his father would make it worst for him and Caleb. When he knows his father isn't in the barn anymore he goes outside and runs to Caleb's side. He picks Caleb in his arms and holds him to his chest, trying to comfort his little brother.

"Sh, brother, its okay. I' am here now. Calm down brother."

Jasper rocks Caleb back and forth to calm him down but Caleb was having a hard time calming himself down after this beating. Jasper saw how bad the marks were on his back and how some of the old ones that were done to him were opened again.

"Let me get you cleaned up brother."

"No, no, no! No, Jazz, please, no!"

Caleb holds tighter onto Jasper's shirt and was shaking uncontrollably. Jasper decides not to move him and keeps holding him in his arms and tries to soothe him the best he could. Jasper wishes this was not the life for them both and wishes he can take them far away from this place but knew it was impossible to do. All Jasper can do is make things a little better for his younger brother and keep protecting him until they both can leave together.

1862:

Caleb is 16 years old and Jasper is 18 years old. A year ago Jasper left to fight in the confederate army. Jasper leaving was a shock to him and caused him to be a little angry because he was promised throughout his life he would never leave him and never alone with his father but Caleb understood Jasper felt he had to do this. Nothing has changed with his father. Caleb is still abused horribly by him and he tries to be strong during this all but he was starting to give up all together. The only hope he was holding onto was his brother coming back to him like he promised.

1863:

It's been 2 years now since Jasper left and the promise he made to his younger brother about coming back home was broken. He was turned into a vampire by a young woman named Maria and he knew due to the risks he couldn't go back home to his brother and risk killing him. Waking up in this life he hated, he hated being what he was and that there was nothing he could do about this.

Maria changed him to help her create an army of newborns to help fight the other armies that were a threat to her and the coven. Jasper wanted to be back with his brother, not be part of something he was forced into.

Caleb recently found out that his older brother was declared dead when he didn't come back to the base and blood was found that was believed to be Jasper's blood so they declared him dead. Caleb didn't want to believe his brother was gone. He didn't want to believe he was dead but Caleb knew it was true especially if he broke a promise to him. Caleb's life was hell but its even worst now with his brother dead and he had no way out or anyone to turn to.

1864:

Caleb was 17 years old now and it's been a year now since his brother passed away. Caleb has given up on life all together. He was severely depressed but he didn't care that he was. His thoughts were never good and when his father tortures or beats him he just sits there and take it all. He use to try to fight back but just didn't care anymore. If his dad killed him then he did and it's what he wanted at this point in his horrible life.

Caleb was in the forest far away from his house after his dad beat him again. He ran away from him after he was done and didn't care if he got it worst for running away.

Tears fall from Caleb's face as the thoughts of killing himself was stronger then before. He knew it was easy to do but he didn't have the courage to do it. The only thing that helped him stay alive was harming himself. It wasn't known to do something like that to yourself around here but it was by accident that it happened. He accidentally cut himself putting something together and seeing the blood and feeling the pain made him feel better so he continue to hurt himself every chance he got.

Caleb was laying down in the forest with the razor in his hand and he cuts into his arm while he fights the tears from falling anymore. He knew crying wasn't going to help him but harming himself was one thing that did help him. When he hears noises he stops what he is doing and pulls his sleeve down. He stands up and tries to see who was coming to where he was. When he sees a young beautiful girl with long curly hair come out from behind one of the trees he was struck by her beauty. He never seen her around here before so Caleb assumed she was new to town.

"Now why is a handsome young man like yourself harming himself in that way?"

Caleb was confused at first but knew she must have saw what he was doing to himself from afar. She moves closer to him but Caleb backs away a little bit.

"It's complicated ma'am."

As she gets closer to him Caleb couldn't seem to move away from her. She grabs his arm and looks up at Caleb and pulls his sleeve up but Caleb tries to stop her from doing it but for some reason he couldn't stop her. She was stronger then him. She looks at his arm and looks up at Caleb and she bites into her arm which made Caleb confused even more then he already was. She takes her arm and forces Caleb to swallow her blood. Caleb's eyes were wide with fear but he takes the blood and swallows it. After he is done, she snaps his neck.

5 days later:

When Caleb woke up from his neck being snapped he knew that woman did something to him and bought him to a place he didn't know or recognize. Caleb looks around as he was waking up but all he can focus on was how bad of pain his throat was in.

"Ah look who is awake."

The young woman he saw walk in he remembered but not the other woman that was with him. They bought in another person that was bleeding from his neck and they throw him at Caleb. The blood was calling to him and he didn't know why he was feeling this way but he couldn't control it. Without much hesitation he drinks the blood from the guy on the floor and Caleb felt himself changing. He felt fangs coming into his teeth and his face change with veins under his eyes and his eyes turned blood red.

"W-What you do to me?"

The woman he knew knees down to Caleb and picks his hand up and puts a ring on his finger.

"You are a vampire now Caleb. You will need this to walk in the sun and blood of course if you want to stay alive."

She then turns to the other woman that was in the room with them and stands up to walk over to her.

"He is all yours now. I paid my debt to you Maria."

"Yes you did Katherine. You can go now."

At vampire speed she runs out of the barn and disappears. Caleb looks at the woman named Maria and gets up to attack her. He was angry more angry then he ever felt before and wanted to murder the woman that made him become this monster. When Caleb tries to attack her Maria blocks him and slams him onto the ground and gets on top of him and pins his arms on the ground and holds him down.

"If you are expected to survive here you will have to learn the rules and how you are expected to obey by them. Do you understand me Whitlock?"

Caleb is struggling to get free out of her hold but she was much stronger then him.

"How do you know my name?"

"You will find out soon enough little Caleb."

She gets up off of Caleb and Caleb stays on the ground trying his hardest to hold in his tears since he knew his life was never going to be the same again. He was being forced into a life he didn't want or asked for and there is nothing he or anyone else can do.

When Maria leaves Caleb brings his knees to his chest and holds them to his chest and starts crying into them. After an hour Maria returns and this time she returns with someone else with her. Caleb looks up and sees someone he thought he will never see again. It was his brother, Jasper.

"C-Caleb?"

Jasper knew Maria was up to something when she wouldn't tell him why she was bringing him back here. Now Jasper knew why she was keeping it a secret but what he didn't understand is how Maria found out about his younger brother. Caleb was one person he did not want Maria to know about. Jasper still needed to protect him but he failed Caleb once again.

Through gutted teeth and angry he turns to Maria.

"What did you do to him Maria?"

"He is like us Major. His vampire type is different from us but he was changed. Do you really think you could keep this little secret from me?"

Jasper takes one look at his brother and saw how different he really was. He saw in his eyes how broken he is. Maria must have been watching him for a while and found the right time to change him, to make his life even more terrible for him.

"He did not deserve this Maria. Why would you change him? Why deem him to this life?"

"Now Major, he wanted his life to end. He wanted his pathetic human life to end and I made that wish come true for him. Now it's time for you to teach him everything you know so I don't have to end his vampire life also."

Maria threatens Jasper as she leaves Jasper with Caleb. Jasper walks over to him and knees down to him which makes Caleb look at him with relief. Jasper can feel Caleb's emotions and they were too many of them but fear was a big one he was sensing from his younger brother.

"Jasper, h-how are you a-alive?"

"I was turned into a vampire Caleb. I'm so sorry I couldn't come back for you. I'm so sorry Maria did this to you. I did not know anything about this brother."

Caleb nods his head in understanding. He wasn't angry with his brother for not coming back since now he understands why he couldn't. Jasper puts his hand on Caleb's shoulder and squeezes it in comfort but Caleb does something Jasper didn't think he would. Caleb goes into his brothers arms and wraps his arms around Jasper and hugs him. Jasper hugs him back and holds Caleb tight in his arms. It's really been too long for the brothers and now they are together again.
