A/N: So I'm not going to be finishing this and this story is being discontinued/Abandoned. I'm so sorry for anyone who was hoping that this fic would one day be continued but I'm completely out of one of the fandoms now and while I still like the other I'm not going to be writing any longer fics for it anytime soon. If anyone wants to adopt it that's welcome but I thought I would give the meatier parts of what I already had written plus what I had planned for this story. The bold italicized parts are the notes about how the story was going to end, in case you just want to read that.
He walked into the room all decorated up
"Wow, you guys look great."
"Hey, you came."
"How's it going?"
"It's been pretty quiet so far, however, I do believe-"
"You went out with Liam Nesson, are you kidding me?"
"Right on time."
"Why would you even tell me you went with Liam Nesson? Why would you do that?"
"Because I was trying to be honest."
"I don't believe that A you actually went out with Liam Neeson. B that you would choose to tell me now at this moment that you went out with Liam Nesson!"
"Andrew!."
"No!"
"Andrew!"
'I can't stand Liam Nesson."
"See fun."
"And no ones' even thrown up yet."
"Ok, then I'm just going to sit down and watch for a while." He sat down on the bleachers just in time to see Kirk flipping a girl around. Fancy.
It was an interesting tradition. Dancing for 24 hours straight, as many small towns as he had grown up in, he was pretty sure that he had never come across anything as crazy or as interesting as that one. It was nice that Rory agreed to dance for that long for her mother. He wished his relationship with his father was like that. Not that Sam wouldn't do anything for his father, just that Rory and her mother talked to each other and not at each other.
He was barely on the bleachers for a few minutes before Shane and Jess came rolling in through the door. He could tell that Rory was watching Jess and Shane as they went through the door. She was obviously attracted to him, he had noticed it before. He also noticed that Jess was always following her around with Shane, obviously trying to make her jealous which always seemed to work. What he didn't know was why Rory hadn't broken up with him when she obviously liked Jess and Jess obviously liked her? He still wasn't sure what to do; he wasn't sure what Dean would want him to do. So he did what he decided to do a while ago: he was going to let it play out longer.
So he kept on watching them dance as their pace got slower and slower and soon Rory was barely able to stay upright. He also noticed how she kept on staring at Jess while not looking his way at all. This was getting bad. Sam wasn't sure how long he could keep this up anymore or how much longer he should. He didn't want to break up with Rory but he also didn't really want to make Dean anymore into a walking doormat which right now he was. A bull horn blared startling him out of his thoughts. All the dancers formed into a line and Taylor's voice said.
"Ladies and Gentleman on your mark, get set and go." The people on the floor all started running around in a circle. He would be enjoying it more if he wasn't thinking about what to do about Rory and Jess.
"Round and round and round they go but when the song stops nobody knows but the last five couples who finish behind the red line are automatically out so hold onto your partner and move, move, move!" The air horn blew again and Taylor's voice rang out.
"Ten-minute break everyone, ten-minute break, well done, ten-minute break, ten-minute break." All the couples promptly fell to the floor. Where they laid for several moments before getting up. Sam got up and made his way to Rory. They made their way to get a snack when they ran into Jess who was eating an egg sandwich. Great another session of Rory so obviously being jealous and she'll probably do it right in front of him
"The sandwiches are for the dancers."
"I'm dancing on the inside," Jess said in his Jess way. Jess actually faintly reminded him of Dean, only he liked Dean…
"What are you doing here?"
"I live here."
"You have nothing better to do than sit around inside a gymnasium all day staring at a dance marathon?"
"I don't know. Do you have nothing better to do than sit around a gymnasium all day staring at a dance marathon?" The question was directed at him and Sam really wanted to kick his ass for being such a dick and clearly only being here to make Rory jealous and break them up. He reminded himself, first of all, that he wasn't really Dean, that Rory really wasn't his, and that he was going to wait it out a little longer.
"I wouldn't direct any sort of comment towards me if I were you," he said, trying to remain calm.
"I'm just trying to support my town."
"Good then go back to New York." She so obviously wanted him. Why not just break up with Dean, Sam thought again. Did he really want to do this? Be in the middle of them any longer. He didn't want to be fake dating Rory in the first place, no matter how pretty, nice and funny she was because he wasn't who she expected him to be, which apparently was a walking doormat.
"Oh, zing I've been snapped."
"You think you're bugging me sitting in front of me staring like that." That would be a yes, she was bugged and so obviously jealous. Would Dean really deal with all this crap from Rory or would he have ended it already?
"You think you were bugging me? Dancing in front of me staring at me like that?"Also another yes, she was bugged and she did want him, and the more they were talking the angrier he got. How could they do this? Dean seemed like a nice enough guy. A lot of people seemed to think he was nice and he was well-liked and they were having this argument in front of what they thought was Dean.
"I'm not staring at you." Yes, Rory was, she was staring at him more than anyone else in the room.
"How do you know I'm staring at you?"
"I'm dancing. I can't control where my glance goes and in the few moments where I can control it my glance goes to Dean, not to you." Liar she was lying, just to make Jess jealous right in front of him.
"You can't control if you look at me but you have to force yourself to look at him? Sorry man but that's cold." His anger was growing. They were still having this argument right in front of him like he was an idiot that had no idea what was going on. Sam really did want to punch Jess and if Rory wasn't a girl he would want to punch her too. She was really a terrible girlfriend. If she really wanted Jess so much she should do the right thing and break up with him.
"Go home," Rory said. Ha! Fat chance of that happening.
"No thanks."
"Then get out of my way."
"Didn't realize I was in your way." Jess moved out of the way of the table of sandwiches. "Here you go it's all yours, god help you." That's when Shane came in.
"Where did you go?" Sam nearly snorted, Shane had no idea, did she? That Jess was pretty much only dating her to get Rory.
"I've been sitting out there for 20 minutes."
"The break's only for 10."
"It's just a saying."
"Came to get food."
"Good, I'm starved."
"The food is for the dancers." Like Rory really cared about the food.
"Who are you Bobby Brady, get a life."
"Rory's feeling a little territorial today."
"Whatever god, what is this thing?" Jess pulled Shane to him and Rory pulled him to her. This was obviously a contest of some sort between the two of them of who could get the other one more jealous. This was not a game he was going to play.
"Rory, I'm going back in." He detached himself from her and walked away. He really really wanted to break up with her right now. Sam really wished he knew what Dean would do in this situation. He stalked back into the Gym. He went back up the bleachers, though he really just wanted to leave though. He wanted to leave the dance, this town this whole life that he was pretending was his. He made his way back to where he had been sitting and watched Lorelei and Jackson have an argument but he didn't really care at the moment what it was about. Rory...she was a nice girl, pretty and smart but so maddening at the moment. He looked up again when he heard Jackson yell.
"Excuse me, strange man in the corner. Is it okay if I quit this contest?!"Jackson shouted. The bull-horn blared again,
"All dancers back on the dance floor, all dancers back on the dance floor." He saw Rory give her mom a sandwich.
Not long after the dancers were dancing even more slowly than before and a blond guy suddenly fainted and his girlfriend dragged him off the floor which admittedly was a bit extreme for a dance contest. His thoughts started wandering away when he heard a loud voice yell,
"Dean, come here Dean." He was a little bit tired at this point as well and for a second he thought Dean was really here but then he realized she was talking to him. He got up off the bleachers and made his way over to Lorelei and Rory.
"What's going on?" he asked, concerned when he noticed that Rory looked even more tired close up.
"Stand here." She handed Rory to him who practically fainted on him. "Look, I'll be back in 10 minutes. Do not let her stop or lay down. Do you understand me?"
"Lorelei this really isn't," Lorelei interrupted.
"I need you, Dean! The team needs you."
"What team?"
"Pick a team, it needs you. I'll be right back."
"Lorelei," Sam tried again but she walked away anyway and left him there with her. "Just great," he muttered under his breath.
"I'm really sorry about this."
"Yeah it's okay," he lied. The last thing in the world he wanted to be doing is dancing with her at the moment; it was probably only going to make things worse. He slowly slipped his arms around her and started dancing slowly.
"You sure?" He may or may not have made a sound that sounded like 'uhum'. It wouldn't be so bad dancing with her if he wasn't already angry with her. It might even be nice, even though he didn't really know how to dance well but since he was mad he silently begged her just to be completely quiet until her mom came back. Of course, it didn't work when 3 minutes later she said tiredly but obviously very bothered.
"He's still there. Jess, he's still there. I can't believe he's still there."
She was tired and maybe she wouldn't be saying what she was saying if she wasn't so tired but that didn't mean she didn't feel it. He was going to break up with her, he decided. Just had to find the right time to do it. He didn't say anything though. There was nothing to say, it was over between the two of them.
"You know, this is a dance marathon you're not supposed to come and sit and watch. You're supposed to dance. He's just trying to bug me sitting there right in front of me, staring, jerk. There they go again." Sam looked and found Jess and Shane making out. "God I swear, Why can't they just get a room? Get a park bench? Or a doorway or even a strategically placed telephone booth would probably suffice? " Because if they got a room then it wouldn't bug her and Jess is trying to make Rory jealous. His resolve to wait was slipping; he was tired of hearing her rant about how jealous she was. "I mean girls like Shane, was is it with them? Don't they see what they look like? I know they have mirrors."
"Hey, you talking about me!" Jess yelled.
"No."
"I heard you mention Shane."
"Shane doesn't count as you."
"Shane concerns me." Like you care about Shane at all, she was just a tool to get Rory, she was the one who was going to hurt the most when the two of them got together.
"Shane concerns me too and all women for that matter." Sam had no logical thought anymore, just anger and trying to get through this conversation.
"You got a problem here?"
"Nope. Just a little sick of the two of you sitting there. If you're not going to participate then why don't you just leave?"
"That works for me, let's go," Shane said, getting ready to leave.
"No."
"Why not?"
"Because I'm not ready to go."
"Oh really."
"Yes really, I'm going to sit here as long as I like and I'm going to do whatever I like and if you don't like it then just ignore me and pay attention to your boyfriend." It took considerable effort to not do anything or say anything after that. But he did know as soon as Rory was done dancing he'd take her away from everyone and break up with her.
"I will."
"Then do it."
"I am," she turned away from him for a second, then she continued looking back at him. Sam didn't even look but he knew Jess was leering at her trying to provoke her into saying something again. They dance for a few more minutes that way until-
"Oww!" Rory fell and Sam leaned over her.
"Rory, what's wrong?"
"I think I hurt my ankle,"she said, hand hovering over it wincing. He put his hand over her ankle and found it wasn't broken. Maybe it was a sprain? Or she just rolled it? Who knew?
"Help me up," she said..
"Rory, you're hurt."
"My mom really wants to win this and I'm not going to disappoint her."
"Rory's, that's not a good idea." But he helped her to her feet anyway, only to have her gasp sharply.
"Rory, you shouldn't be on that leg and you definitely shouldn't be dancing on it." She fell down again and Sam lowered himself to the ground again so that they were at the same eye level.
"Rory, I'm sorry. I know how much this means to your mother and how much you don't want to let her down but if you keep dancing on that leg you're just going to make it worse."
"Okay," she said resigned.
"I'm out," she said a bit louder. Kirk did a small victory dance then continued dancing since there was still another couple in it.
"I really wanted to win for my mother." Part of him wanted to comfort her but the other part of him wanted to do what he had wanted to do early but had put off to save Rory embarrassment. Instead, he helped Rory to the bleachers and helped her sit down.
"Rory, how's the ankle doing?" She moved it around a little wincing.
"A little bit better but not a whole lot."
"Let me get you some ice." He got up to stand and Rory put a hand on him.
"Really Dean it's not that bad." He breathed in and out trying to control his anger. He sat down next to her but tried not to look at her. They were in a public place and no matter how angry he was at her he wanted to do this in private. He would just have to wait. Lorelei came in then, spotted them and came over.
"What happened?"
"Rory hurt her ankle," he said, focusing on Lorelei and not Rory. Lorelei sat down on Rory's other side.
"We should probably get her to the nurse."
"She doesn't like you," Rory muttered, eyes starting to close.
"Yeah well, your ankle's hurt sweetie and you gotta get that checked out. Help me." He should have thought of that but they always fixed their own injuries in their family, unless it was life-threatening. That was the only time they went to the hospital. Lorelei got up and he got up as well. They helped Rory into a standing position and helped her to the medical tent. The women didn't seem to like Lorelei but once she saw that they were carrying Rory, she helped Rory sit down.
"Her ankles hurt," he said.
"Which ankle?" The nurse asked.
"Her left ankle," he replied and the nurse squatted a bit and started feeling Rory's ankle.
"It doesn't seem broken, probably just a mild sprain." She said as she got up into a standing position. "I'll go get you some ice." Rory looked dead tired and was starting to slump down.
"I'll get her some coffee." Anything to get away, even temporarily, he made his way to Luke's coffee cart.
"1 coffee."
"Dean, where's Rory and Lorelei? I was gone for a minute and they both disappeared?"
"Rory rolled her ankle. She's in the med-tent. The coffee I'm getting is for her, she's about to fall asleep," Luke handed him a cup.
"But she's okay right?"
"She's in the med tent if you want to see her." Luke looked indecisively around for a second then nodded and Dean followed him back to the med tent. He handed Rory the coffee, who took a long deep drink of it.
"Are you okay?" Luke asked. Rory nodded.
"You sure?" She nodded again.
"Good this whole town is crazy. People put their health on the line and for a tarp!"
"Luke, I'm okay," Rory assured him and started to get some awareness back in her face; the coffee apparently was doing it's job.
"Good, well I'm going to get back out there." Luke left the way he came. Luke had been in his view before, now he saw Rory's leg up her shoe off and wrapped with ice. Lorelei was sitting next to her.
"I'm sorry Mom, I tried," Rory said.
"I already told you it's okay. Rory, it's not your fault your ankle got hurt."
"Then why do I feel so bad?"
"Because you're Rory, that's why you do," she said with a smile. Apparently, she didn't feel bad enough. He heard cheers from inside the gym, apparently, someone had won. He really wanted to break up with Rory, bad. He just wasn't sure how he could with Rory's ankle hurt and people being in the same room.
"Mom, when can we go home? We have ice there too and I'd rather be there in my room than here."
"Is that okay?" Lorelei asked the nurse a bit nervously, the nurse nodded not really looking at Lorelei.
"Alright kiddo." The nurse took the ice off and Lorelei put Rory's shoe back on. He helped Rory into a standing position.
"Can I walk Rory's to your guy's car?" He asked Lorelei, finally seeing his opportunity, Lorelei looked at him suspiciously. "It's just, I need to talk to Rory alone."
"Okay," she said. Sam had a feeling that Lorelei knew what was coming and he smiled a sad smile at her. This would be the last time he would probably see her and have her not glaring at him. She was a good mother and a very interesting person to be around. He put his arm around Rory and started helping her down the stairs.
"So where are you guys parked," he asked, trying to remain calm. He had to get Rory safely to her car before the fireworks started. He looked around and no one was out here at the moment which was good.
"Around the corner." He started helping her get there when Rory stopped.
"Dean, why do we have to talk alone?"
"Rory, we should wait until we get to your guy's car." He started helping her again and they made it over to their car.
"Okay we're here now, what's this about?" Rory asked, confused. He was only fake dating her and had been only doing so for the last several weeks. But he was still very angry about it, Sam felt bad that Rory was hurt and feeling sorry that her injury had prevented her mother from winning. She so obviously wanted to win but he couldn't do this, not for a moment more. It had been hard enough to wait until now.
"What's this about?! You are obviously so into Jess, you can't even hide it well! I mean you are so not good at hiding it I mean..." he took a few deep breaths and reminded himself that he wasn't Dean.
"Why couldn't you just admit it?"
"Admit what?"
"Why couldn't you just break up with me?" Rory's eyes widened and she looked like she had just been slapped.
"Dean why-" But Sam was done with this, done with this fake relationship because even if Dean hadn't broken them up by this point he didn't care.
"You're jealous, jealous of Shane, and I'm pretty sure you're the only one who can't see it, or maybe just doesn't want to. But I can see it and I'm done. The only reason I didn't leave while dancing is because I didn't want to break up with you in front of everyone and I know how much this dancing thing means to you. Then you hurt your ankle and it was time."
"Is that what we're doing? Are we breaking up?" She looked small and her eyes looked glassy like she was about to cry.
"Yes, I can't help but think that it's what you wanted all along, or else maybe you would have been more subtle about how much you like him." He started walking away.
"Dean!" He turned around slowly.
"You should probably tell Shane before the two of you start dating." He ground out. She had a stray teardrop streaming down her face but Sam forced himself to ignore it. He turned away after a moment where she didn't say anything and walked away from her. She didn't call him back again. He started walking towards home...Dean's home, Sam corrected himself. He had only been here a month but that this was starting to feel like his life and not him impersonating Dean. Probably because a month was about how long he usually stayed in a place. He started thinking about Rory, even though he didn't really want to. Like everything in his life just as he was starting to get used to it or maybe even like it it was taken away.
Notes: Sam and Rory break up at the dance more or less like they do in canon. So at that point, I was going to have Sam join the football team because it's a sport he already knows. Sam was also going to drive up to Hartford to use their library to try to find any information. That's where he would meet a girl who was going to Yale named Nicole who he could be more honest with since she doesn't know anything about his life Stars Hollow and he could be more himself though pretending that he was also a student going to Yale. He and Nicole were going to date. He and Lane were going to become friends due to Lane being a cheerleader and Sam being a football player. Sam and Rory were also going to be friends causing some drama like canon with Jess but Sam was going to slip more with Lane at times hinting at the truth.
It was Christmas Eve so Sam was just going to have to face the facts, he was not probably not going to get home in time for Christmas. Not that Christmas had ever been a big deal in his house, at least not nearly as big as it was in the Forester's house. Not that Dean didn't usually do his best to make Christmas as good as he could but Dean had only been four years older than him and most of the time Dad wasn't there for Christmas. Not to mention he had first found out for sure about monsters on Christmas, which had always put a nostalgic damper on the holiday. But everyone else seemed in the spirit. Clara had been singing carols all day, sometimes at the top of her lungs. There was a big real Christmas, honestly good smelling, tree in the living room with tinsel and all kinds of ornaments on it. The house smelled of cinnamon and cookies. A few hours later they would open gifts. Sam had pretty much just asked every member of the family what they thought everyone else wanted and gotten the most common response for the person.
Never had he felt as homesick as he did right now. He wanted Dean and his Dad too, so desperately but particularly Dean. He didn't want to go there and open presents that Dean(Forester) would like, he wanted to stay up here and what? He didn't even have a picture of his family. All he had were his memories.
He grabbed his cd rack and rifled through the box for anything to block, the happy home that wasn't his, out of his mind. After a lot of rifling through, he found one that he wanted to listen to. The greatest hit of AC/DC. AC/DC wasn't usually his favorite group. In fact, most of the time Dean played his tunes so loud that Sam would beg for him to turn it down so he could study. He put it in his portable cd player and put it on Back in Black as high as it would go and let it drown out the happiness of the family he wasn't really a part of.
Christmas morning is usually every child's favorite part of the year, waking up and rushing down the stairs. He had just wanted to stay in bed when Clara had banged on his door even before the sun came up. Last night had been bad enough, Dean's mother had gotten a large frown on her face when he declined going downstairs the first time to join in the festivities, so he had given in. He had eaten cookies and drank eggnog, one without any alcohol in it. He had sung carols, mostly under his breath as he didn't know most of the words, and tried to act like Dean Forrester would. He had a fake smile plastered on his face all night long before finally he was able to slip away to go to bed.
Could he do it again? Honestly, he wasn't sure.
"Dean get up!" Clara shouted louder. Sam sighed and shouted.
"Yeah, I'll be down in a minute."
"You better." Was Clara's irritated response then he heard her footsteps fade away.
Reluctantly, Sam made his way out of bed. He opened the door of his bedroom and his eyes settled on the hallway. The hallway was brimming with decorations, the Forresters were definitely in the holiday spirit. He could hear Dean's mom humming Silent night.
Sam sighed again. What he wouldn't give to be in a hotel room with a few ornaments strung up on a holiday wreath like he had on Christmas when he was 10. He had no idea at the time that Dean had stolen the wreath off a door and the ornaments from the hotel's Christmas tree. Dean had given them back or at least Sam thought he had. It was not decorated at all like this but Dean had been there. He had woken him up and given him presents, which hopefully hadn't been stolen as well but he would much rather have that and Dean here than be here without him.
He missed Dean and even his Dad a lot. Sam wanted them here with him, even if all that happened all day was them yelling at him, it was preferable to being without either of them. Sam found his way down the stairs and came into the view of the living room area. The tree was tall and filled with ornaments, some of them were clearly handmade by Clara and Dean and there also was tinsel, and lights, and a large star on the top of the tree.
"Finally!" Came Clara's impatient cry and she started digging into the present she had in her hands. Sam sat down on one of the couches and did his best not to look as disappointed as he felt.
Why in the world had he even wanted to be normal? Well, he hadn't wanted to be someone else and normal, he wanted to be himself and normal.
He couldn't stand it anymore. Sam had to see Dean and his Dad, even if they weren't related to him in this world. He had to get their picture and the only time he could do it and maybe get away with it was winter break, which ended in 6 days.
Sam would need an excuse and a damn good one, plus someone to cover for him but he would do whatever he had to in order to see them. He would leave tomorrow morning nice and early, leaving a note for Dean's parents that he went to visit his girlfriend in Hartford. Then all he would have to do is get his girlfriend to cover for him, to tell them whenever they called he was in the shower or not in at the moment. With the comforting thought that he would see his family in about a day and a half he smiled more genuinely as he opened a gift for Dean that he cared almost nothing about.
They hadn't gotten him home yet and now he had to spend Christmas with them. This time they were at least renting a house. They had a shabby tree which he had a feeling that he was probably supposed to be grateful for seeing Dean Winchester's face when he brought in through the door.
It was Christmas Eve and instead of singing carols and making treats, Dean (W) was blasting the greatest hits of mullet rock. There was eggnog but it was spiked. Dean had never really been much of a drinker before coming here; he had gone to a few parties in Chicago but he rarely got drunk.
Of course, Stars Hallows didn't have nearly as many parties as Chicago had, so while he was usually invited to the parties, he had gotten drunk even less. The worst thing though was the people. Dean and Mr. Winchester were nice people, no doubt about that. They saved people from things no one knew existed and for nothing but they weren't his family. They were Clara or his Mom, or Dad, he had never thought he would miss them so much. He had been away from them before for camps and stuff like that but never for so long and never without being able to even write them a letter.
Mr. Winchester wasn't here; he was on a hunt one that Dean had tried to go on too but Mr. Winchester had said no. So now here they were, swigging spiked eggnog and avoiding looking at each other while AC/DC blared in the background. Eggnog was making it bearable; it also seemed to be making his tongue loose, he thought as he blurted out childishly.
"I want to go home." Dean Winchester looked over at him.
"Yeah, I know the feeling."
Notes: So at this point, he lies to Dean's family about where he's going and doesn't tell Nicole where he's going either. He manages to hunt down his family and at least gets to take a picture but also gets in a lot of trouble for it. A few weeks later, Nicole breaks up with him for not telling her the truth about why she had to cover for him. Sam spends more time hanging out with Lane and Rory trying to get his grades up but is disheartened when he realizes no matter how hard he studies, he can't make up for how much Dean didn't do. Sam all but gives up on ever going home and is set to go to a community college when Dean and John track down the trickster.
Dean quickly swung his stake at the demigod's heart but before it made contact the image of the demigod dissolved and the demigod was standing several feet away now.
"Dean, Dean, Dean did you really think that that would work?"
"I don't know, I was kind of hoping."
"What was the point of this? You know what I am?"
"Yeah, I know. I also know that if you don't switch them back we'll follow you everywhere you go, till the day we die and maybe once we'll actually kill you."
"You know that he wished he was normal. All I gave him was what he wanted."
"Even if that's true, it's not what Dean Forrester wants, and it's definitely not what I want."
"So your wishes and wants are over his? Is that it?'
"I need my brother back, and I'm willing to do whatever I have to to get him back, is that clear?"
"Okay fine. You want your brother back and send Dean here home. Fine... No sense of humor." He clapped his hands and a big flash went through the room.
A Run Down Warehouse In Michigan
Sam felt the strangest sensation like he was floating then it suddenly stopped. Sam opened his eyes to the most welcome sight he could imagine. Dean and his Dad were standing right in front of him. Where they were he had no idea, it looked like some dilapidated house.
"Sam?" asked Dean and John simultaneously.
"Dean? Dad?!" Sam asked back excitedly. He rushed over to them, he wanted to give them both hugs but wasn't sure if they were okay with each other. What with Sam and his Dad arguing the last time they saw each other. . He went for Dean first because he just needed to, he wrapped his hands around Dean and when Dean wrapped his own hand around Sam's shoulders he felt like he usually did around Dean safe and secure. He broke the hug after a long while and gazed at his father, unsure what to do. They stood like that for several moments until he realized even if his father didn't want it, he needed to give him a hug as well. He hugged his father and after a second or two, his father hugged him back. They broke apart.
"You did it, you figured it out, you figured it out how to get me home."
"Wasn't easy Sasquatch, took us forever to find out what did it. Which was a demigod by the way. Took us even longer to track down said Demigod and make him give you back, " Dean said smirking.
"But you did it."
"I'm sorry it took so long."
"I'm just glad I'm here. I really am." Sam blinked back tears and decided something right then. "I'm not leaving ever again." They didn't know what that meant since he had never told them he had been accepted to Stanford but he wasn't going he couldn't live without his family. This experience showed him that.
Stars Hollow, Connecticut
Dean felt something strange go through him. It was like he was floating then the feeling stopped. He stared in shock. He was in his room, his real room with all his trophies and his name on them. They had done it like they said they would, they got him home. Dean made to leave the room when his eyes caught a bright sticky note on his desk. Dean: Read Journal. He picked it up and wondered what it would say. He flipped through the first couple pages recognizing them as his entries. That he got to something that was dated during the period he was gone.
A few weeks ago I left Stars Hollow and when I came back I was in a lot of trouble. I told Rory it was because I was worried about school and she believed me.
It was obviously Sam letting him know what went in in his absence so that he wasn't completely in the dark. Dean started reading again, though the lines were sparse and often weeks between entries.
Today I broke up with Rory when it became clear she liked Jess a lot.
Dean stopped reading and looked up from the book, he still loved her. He had missed her so much and now he didn't have her anymore. It hurt a lot, he almost didn't want to read any further but he had to, he had to know what was going on in his life.
I'm sorry that I had to break up with her.
This was obviously a veiled apology to him, he wasn't sure if he could forgive him though, not with the pain so fresh and his hopes so crushed. His eyes stung a little and Dean blinked back tears, he had to find out what else Sam had screwed up. He turned the page which was dated a few weeks later.
Rory is going out with Jess and I'm going out with Nicole, a girl who is going to Yale. Me and Rory are friends and she was jealous when I told her I was going out with an Ivy league girl.
Nicole broke up with me, tired of the lies. I don't really blame her. So he wouldn't even have a hot ivy league girlfriend, he would have no one.
Rory, Lane, and I are getting to be really good friends. Jess and Rory broke up, Rory sometimes seems like she wants to date me but I'm not sure I want to deal with that again. She's going on vacation and won't be back until school starts though I guess we'll figure out then.
So there was a chance? There was a chance that he and Rory could still be together? That gave him strength that maybe things could go back to normal, back to the way things used to be. But he would have to see what else had changed first and to find his family.
Dean stepped out of his room and down the hall. Everything looked the same as he remembered, he had been gone for so long it seemed wrong that nothing else had changed. He peeked into his parent's room. They weren't in there and nothing looked different. He moved a little further down the hall to Clara's room, nothing much looked different either other than a few new toys she probably got for Christmas. A pang went through his heart as he thought about that, he missed Christmas. He made his way down the stairs slowly creeping quietly like he had learned to do with the Winchesters. When he got off the stairs Dean looked around and he didn't see anyone.
"Mom? Dad? Clara?" he called, starting to get a little worried when he hadn't heard a response.
"Mom?Dad? Clara?" He called a little louder, then he heard the sound of a car pulling into the driveway. He rushed to the window and saw and heard Clara talking. He was barely able to stop himself from running out to meet them, instead, he waited impatiently for them to actually come into the house. Which they did moments later with bags of stuff. He only realized he was right in front of the door when they stopped in front of him. He moved out of the way hesitantly and moved to the side. They didn't come running to him. They had no idea that he was gone for months. He wasn't sure what to think about that at the moment, so he put it aside to deal with later. He focused on being home with his real family. No demons, no serious injuries, and no blood. His life.
"Dean, are you okay?" his mother asked worriedly. Dean realized he'd been standing in the same spot for a while now just thinking. How was he? Dean smiled. They were here and he was home.
"Everything's great."
Notes: Dean and John are able to convince the trickster to switch them back. Sam hugs both of them and Dean is also thrilled to be home.
A/N: Again, if anyone wants to adopt this story and give it an actual ending I'm all for that, just let me know. Otherwise, I'm sorry I wasn't able to finish it like I was originally planning to.
