Hey everyone! I'm back with another chapter! Thanks for reading and enjoy the story! Let me know what you think the comments! (BTW I'm just a little bit desperate for feedback right now because I haven't gotten any in forever, so if you could just let me know your thoughts it would mean a lot)
I started spacing out at practice. It was okay at first until the coach started to get frustrated when I would miss a play or two in practice matches, or a stray ball would nearly take my head off.
I decided to make myself stop thinking about Kozu during practice, I only let myself think about the team and my work. I even told Akaashi, Onaga, and Anahori that they had full permission to throw water in my face if I started to day dream again.
It was going well until my mind started to wander during class and I spaced out for an entire math class. Anahori and Onaga helped me figure out what I missed though. It wasn't too difficult, just more practice with calculating angles and side lengths of shapes. Geometry was turning out to be easier than I anticipated.
Today was an easy day. The coach ended up taking the notebook to do some notes for himself. I did the scoreboard, refilled waters, and handed out pennies. We weren't running drills or doing anything that the guys needed my help with, just competing in random groups of three.
I started to space out not long after the 3 vs. 3 tournaments began. I caught myself before the guys did thankfully and saved myself the trouble of getting a cup of water to the face. I was laughing at myself and started to zone out once again.
"Ria!" I heard one of the guys yell to warn me and immediately threw my hands up to protect my head.
I felt a ball make contact with the back of my knee and tripped as it practically knocked my leg right out from under me.
"Woah!" I put my arms out in front of me as I crashed toward the floor and my wrist made a horrible cracking noise as I landed.
Tears sprung into my eyes and I held my arm tight in my uninjured hand. I clenched my teeth, pleading with myself internally to stop myself from crying out. It was just a little fall, I needed to stop being such a wimp.
"Ria!" Akaashi was kneeling beside me on the floor, "Are you okay? Is your arm hurt? Let me see it!"
I winced as he just barely touched my arm and he seemed very concerned.
"I'm okay..." my voice broke as I whispered my reply.
"Let's go see the nurse, she can give you some pain killers and let us know if anything is seriously wrong."
"No!" I insisted, "I have painkillers in my bag, I'll be just fine! I don't need to see the nurse!"
"Ria-" Akaashi seemed worried.
"I'm fine! I promise, it's my fault anyway for not paying attention. Let's get back to practice." I forced a smile.
"We'll start practicing while you go see the nurse." he insisted.
I looked down at the floor with a nod. I knew I would be lying to him.
I excused myself from the gym and instead of going to the nurse's office, I headed to the club room. I pulled an ace wrap and medical tape out of the first aid kit in the team travel bag and took my ruler out of my back pack and stealing Onaga's from his bag. I put one on the underside and the other on the top of my arm, wrapping tape to hold them in place, and using an ace wrap to make a cushion around the injury.
I started to head back off to the gym and when I arrived, the guys were all on top of me with their questions
"Are you okay?"
"Is it broken?"
"Do you need to go to the hospital?"
And then Akaashi interrupted them all, "Give her some space."
Everyone backed off and I forced a laugh, "I'm fine. Just a little sprain. I might have to see a doctor if it doesn't get any better by the end of the week though."
I was lying through my teeth and praying that no one would see through me.
"Why don't you head home then?" Akaashi said, "I'll pack up and set up for the rest of the week, you just focus on getting better. Come back to practice next Monday."
"Okay..." I nodded and headed back to the Suzukis.
"Oh my goodness!" Mrs. Suzuki was shocked to see my arm, "Are you okay? What happened?!"
"I just tripped and sprained my wrist, nothing to worry too much about." I lied once again and she seemed concerned.
"Oh, okay, let's un wrap it and ice it. It will feel better afterwards. It'll help it heal faster too." she looked around for a bowl and some ice.
"Sure, I'm just going to change first and I'll be right back." I fled upstairs and changed into some comfortable sweat pants and a t-shirt, careful not to hit my arm on anything.
The problems started when I unwrapped the ace wrap and looked down at my arm. It was an angry purple color and I felt myself freeze at the sight.
I went back downstairs, into the kitchen, and looked to Mrs. Suzuki behind the kitchen counter.
"Mrs. Suzuki," I said quietly.
"Yes, dear" she turned around and at the sight of my arm her eyes went wide, "Oh dear God!"
"Mrs. Suzuki, I think something is wrong." I held my wrist tightly, it hurt, but it was better than when I let it hang.
"Hiro!" she called for Mr. Suzuki and I walked over to the table, collapsing into a chair.
"Aiya?" Mr. Suzuki came into the room and looked panicked when he was my arm too.
"Hiro, call an ambulance!" she told him and grabbed the bowl of iced water from the counter, sticking my arm into it.
"Mrs. Suzuki," I felt strange. My head was aching and my arm was starting to get numb. My stomach was churning and I felt more nauseous than I'd ever felt before.
"Ria, honey, are you okay? The ambulance will be here soon."
"Mrs. Suzuki, I need my phone." I looked around, trying to get up but she stopped me and leaned over to grab my backpack, pulling my phone out of the pocket where I usually left it.
"Here you go," she put my phone in my good hand and I pulled up my messaging app.
"Kozu," I started typing, "I'm going to the hospital in an ambulance. I think I broke my arm. I'll text you when I know what hospital I'm at. Don't worry, I'll be okay. I love you."
After I sent it, I thought better of what I had done to the team earlier and decided to send Akaashi a text.
"Akaashi," I wrote, "I'm sorry for lying earlier, but I really hurt my arm. I'm going to the hospital with my host mom. We think it's broken. I'll let you know how it goes later, don't worry about it thought, I should be fine. And don't tell the guys on the team either, I don't want to worry them."
