To quote Katherine: "I have no clue what i'm doing"
Gonna speed through an introduction of characters so we can get into the actual stories, this isn't well written I'm sorry the rest will be better than this
Enjoy
Captain Jack Kelly is the (surprise surprise) captain of the "Lower Manhattan", a ship home to one of the most interesting crews to sail the seas.
(that is a terrible attempt at making place names work I'm sorry it's 1am)
Anthony Higgins, known amongst the crew as Racetrack, is Jack's questionable choice of a first mate, he's only 17 and could easily pass as a cabin boy, but the captain loves him like a brother, so no one thinks to argue against his choice.
The real cabin boy, a 16-year-old crippled boy called Charlie Morris, though everyone calls him Crutchie, is also a favourite of Jack's ever since they picked him up from the remains of a recently sunken ship after a storm. One could argue he loves Crutchie even more than Race.
Next on the list of Captain Jack's favourites is Annie Jenkins, known as Smalls for her lack of height, she doesn't really have a job onboard. She snook onto the ship in search of a life of freedom, usually this would be turned down and she would be forced into a job, but she mysteriously had a conversation in the captain's quarters and came out free to do whatever she wants, no one but the two of them know what went down and no one questions it.
Now we've got through the "Jack loves me, so I get special treatment" gang, time to get through the others in a really rushed way so I can get into the fun part (the stories of course) very sorry if your favourite character is one of these rushed ones but trust me, they'll all get their moment.
Sniper: Gunner (in charge of aiming and firing canons)
Henry: Cook (the pringles know, if you have no clue what I'm on about don't worry)
Romeo: Kitchen hand (helps Henry because we can't trust Ro with his own job)
JoJo: Navigator (There's no good reason for this other than "vibes")
Finch: Master-At-Arms (in charge of all the weapons on board)
Elmer: Helmsman (that's the dude who does the steering, pretty simple)
Buttons: Deckhand (BROOM SOLO BROOM SOLO BROOM SOLO)
Albert: Ah- (Meant to be a deckhand but he's a total slacker so he just messes around with Race)
Mush: Lookout (pretty self explanatory, no clue why specifically Mush, just vibes innit)
Specs: Medic (in charge of all things medical)
Blink: Medic-in-Second (works as medic's assistant or if medic is injured)
Tommy boy: Brawler-in-First (one of the tougher crew members, they'll do a lot of the fighting)
Mike and Ike: Brawlers (same as TB only difference being that he has more authority)
Right, we got through that, tried to explain any lesser-known sailing terms for anyone who isn't a 1700s obsessed nerd, feel free to leave a review with any questions! Now onto the other "main characters", though in this everyone's a main character.
David Jacobs is a new crew member on the Lower Manhattan, Jack seems to have taken a liking to him. He's not very charismatic but he's studied sailing for years and now that a time has come where he needs a job, that knowledge is becoming quite useful. He's a popular potential candidate for Quartermaster (an elected high rank in charge of keeping order and peace within a crew) which shows the crew must like him.
Lesley Jacobs had to come with his older brother, Davey, due to financial issues at home. It was hard to find a job for such a young age, but Captain Jack was willing to invite the brothers aboard. Les became good friends with Crutchie. Les tends to help him with his job, so he basically acts as a cabin boy, doing anything that Crutchie's leg prevent him from doing himself.
Much like Smalls, Katherine Pulitzer was sick of a boring life. In her case, everything was handed to her and she was tired of not working for anything, it made her feel guilty to live off her father's money now she was an adult. Her father owns "The world" docks so she spent a lot of time there, one day she comes across a ship preparing to leave and makes a split-second decision to sneak aboard, I would say more but that would ruin a perfectly good story (hint hint I'm totally writing that) so you'll just have to wait to find out what happens to our new stowaway.
(Also, its 3am I'm too tired for that right now)
Last but not least, time for our non-Manhattan characters
Spot Conlon is the feared Captain of the 'Brooklyn Beauty' (I'm so creative I know), the strongest and most famous ship on the modern seas. Spot rules with an iron fist leaving no room for slackers, that's why his ship runs so well. Could that change when he meets one of Jack's boys? (of freaking course there's Sprace)
Hotshot is Spot's choice of first mate, a much better choice than Jack's if I do say so. There's not much else to say about him though sorry mate.
Joseph Pulitzer is the owner of 'the world' docks, one of the only two docks for miles. Father to Katherine Pulitzer (obviously). Gosh this man is boring to write about, point is we hate him.
No one else is that relevant so if I need anyone else, I'll introduce them later. For now, that's everyone. Like I said before, feel free to ask any questions and I'm praying this all makes sense.
I'm gonna go pass out now as it's reached 3am.
