January 1st, 1980: The Sound of Silence

Severus walked up to the dark house with hurried steps. He knocked rapidly, but no one came to the door. He turned the knob slowly, a breath of relief exiting his mouth, as he found the door unlocked. He walked in tentatively. There was faint candle light in the room down the hall on the second floor, so he walked up the stairs slowly. He didn't know if there was anyone in the house, so he whispered "Homenum revelio."

With one other person revealed, he kept his wand out and at the ready, but was reassured when he walked into the bedroom. Laying on the floor next to the fireplace was a familiar woman. Dark hair, blazing yellow eyes, and a soft glow lighting her skin, she was beautiful— filled with fire, but her breath was shallow and slow. Blood pooled beneath her.

"Take her," she whispered looking at Severus.

He knelt next to the woman and took the small baby from her arms. The baby gurgled at him. Her skin was glowing like her mother's, and she slowly opened her eyes. They were nothing like her mother's, but rather dark and stormy like the depths of the ocean. She reached up and grabbed his long greasy hair. He smiled down at her.

"She needs…a name," Her mother said softly between breaths, bringing her hand to touch the baby's tiny fingers. Her baby's hand circled around her pointer finger. A small tear drifted softly down her cheek reaching the right side of her upper lip. "I don't think I have much time left. She needs a name."

"Athena, what do you mean?" Severus said concerned. He wasn't a stupid man; He knew what she was. The blood would have bothered him had she been human, but this was Athena— a goddess. Nothing could take her down or so he thought.

"They said this might happen. We are not supposed to have children. There are rules even for gods. She took too much of me…too much magic. I can feel it. Sev, you need to hide her. If he ever finds her, he'll never let her go. I know the prophecies. I heard the rumors, both of them. She's to be the light to lead you all from the darkness," she coughed. "Like the sun."

"Athena, please don't leave me," he said. A guttural sob came from the back of his throat. "I already lost Lilly to James, I can't lose you too."

"Thea…" She whispered as her final breath left her, and the glow that once laced her skin dimmed until there was no light left in the room except for the small infant in his arms and the embers in the fireplace.

Severus Snape sobbed rocking the baby in his arms. Little did he know that losing his best friend wouldn't be the only thing he lost in the coming war. He got up from the floor with the baby still cradled against him and left the house. Entering the thick darkness he ran, and then quickly disappeared in a flash.
