Cinder
If there was one thing Cinder had learned during her school year, it was that the entire place was a death trap. Werewolves running around at unusual times, angry centaurs, evil teachers, it was a wonder this place ever passed a standard inspection. The inspectors had probably been bribed into giving the school a pass.
However, there was one feature of the school that Cinder absolutely loved, and that was the entrance requirements for the dorms. Thank Merlin for the fact that only a Titanium student could actually get in! And thank Merlin again for the fact that the reporters hadn't figured out how to bypass it yet. After Kai had stolen her away for a few moments, an entirely new crowd of news-hungry vultures had interrupted them and shoved them apart, and Cinder once again found herself bombarded with questions. Only now it was even worse, because instead of being asked about Levana and them being related, it was about her and Kai. What would you say is your relationship with Kai Royal? Have you been seeing each-other long? You're a Lunar, aren't you? How do we know you didn't just use your "gift" on him?
Eventually, it all just grew too much and she stammered out some excuse to leave (maybe it was something to do with going to the bathroom?) and just hightailed it back to her room.
For the first time all day, she'd finally gotten some peace and quiet.
Someone knocked on her door and she groaned. Spoke too soon.
Reluctantly, Cinder made her way over to the door of her bedroom and pulled it open, scowling at the person standing on the other side.
"What do you want?" she asked snappishly.
Kinney raised an eyebrow at her. "Well aren't you cheerful."
"I've almost died several times this morning and have been swamped with reporters and aurors all afternoon. I think I'm entitled to my bad mood."
Kinney shrugged. "Can't argue with that logic. Iko sent me."
Cinder smirked. "She actually found the strength to ask a favour of you?"
Kinney scoffed. "She found the strength to nag, guilt-trip and blackmail me into doing something for her, all in the span of about a minute."
"Oh good, I was worried the apocalypse was near."
"Har, har. Anyway, she wanted me to tell you that Winter's awake and lucid. Well, lucid for her." Kinney added, "The whole gang's down at the infirmary to say hello and celebrate their accomplishments and stuff."
"Our." Cinder corrected.
Kinney stared at her. "What?"
"Our accomplishments. You were there too, Kinney."
Kinney snorted. "Yeah, for about five minutes."
"And in those five minutes you saved us from Levana and warned Iko that people were looking for her, saving her from a lot of pain. That's a pretty solid five minutes' worth of work in my opinion."
Kinney shrugged, though Cinder couldn't help but notice the tiny smile pulling at the corners of his mouth.
"There you are!" Iko cried, hands on her hips. "I was starting to think that Kinney had gotten lost."
"Right, 'cus I can totally get lost on the way to the tower I live in." Kinney grumbled.
"In your case, it's a very real possibility."
Thorne (who for some reason had his arm around Cress's shoulders) chuckled, "Merlin's Beard Iko, hasn't the guy earned any points with you?"
"Oh he has." The metamorphagus replied, "I don't spend each and every day wishing he'd drop dead anymore."
"What a ringing endorsement." Kinney drawled.
Jacin groaned and rolled his eyes. "Great Circe you two, get a room already."
Scarlet grinned. "Speak for yourself! I'm starting to wish I'd brought popcorn."
"Wolf would probably like that, judging by the way his stomach's been growling for the past several minutes." Iko said teasingly.
Wolf shuffled his feet, ears turning red with embarrassment (though Cinder honestly couldn't tell if it was from the ribbing of from the way Scarlet was grinning at him). "I…may be a little bit hungry."
Scarlet sniggered and patted his arm reassuringly. "I'll ask Grand-mère for some tomatoes later."
The way he looked at her in that moment? She might as well have said she'd personally make him a five-star ten course meal.
"Glad to see you survived, "Attack of the Reporters Part II"" Kai said cheerfully as Cinder came to stand beside him.
"Barely," she groaned, "I ended up just telling them that I needed to go to the bathroom and making a break for it."
"Understandable. I just told them that every single one of their questions would be answered with a "no comment" so they should just stop bothering."
"You have got to give me tips on how to handle the paparazzi." Cinder pleaded, "Something tells me I'm going to have to deal with them a lot more now."
Kai winked at her. "Well how can I say no to that face?"
"You say "no" by moving your mouth and tongue in the right shape and vibrating your vocal chords." Came a soft voice from the bed next to them.
Cinder chuckled. "How're you feeling, Winter?"
Winter smiled. "I am feeling very well, Dear Cousin. The birds are singing, the sun is smiling, and the walls' wounds have finally healed. Today is a good day."
Cinder blinked, staring at the scarred girl. ""Cousin"?"
Winter nodded. "You are Selene Channary Jannali Blackburn, are you not? Then you are my cousin. It is wonderful to see you again. Even if you may not remember, we can forge new memories, even better than the originals."
Cinder smiled, looking around at the people – at her friends gathered around her.
"That sounds like a great idea Winter."
