Chapter 1

Elethia Cromwell could not contain herself as her smile beamed throughout King's Cross Station. Her eyes wandered about, watching parents wishing their children to stay safe. Her palms were caked in sweat when she tightened her grip on her suitcase's handle. She walked with purpose beside her parents, Thomas and Claire Cromwell.

They married young a few years after they finished their last year in Hogwarts. They loved each other dearly since their sixth year, but the price of their love led to Thomas's disownment as they shunned him for marrying a Muggleborn. His parents wanted him to marry a Pureblood like them. Now their eleven year old daughter, Elethia, will take her first step to begin her journey as she readies for transport to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

"Nervous, Elethia?"

The young witch smiled warmly at her father as she replied, "A bit."

"Don't be. You're bound to make loads of friends."

Elethia never had real friends before. Growing up, she had a few, but they soon forgot about her as new people moved into her neighborhood. Making friends was incredibly easy to Elethia, but keeping them was another thing.

The young witch's smile faltered when she came to an abrupt stop, alerting her parents. Her hazel-green eyes stared blankly at the red train. Claire stood there, unsure what to do, while her husband knelt down to Elethia's level, rubbing her small shoulders, and whispering that everything was going to be alright, but it was no use. Elethia was no longer at King's Cross Station. She found herself blinded by a bright light and appeared in front of a person wearing black from head to toe. She immediately took her wand out when he did and swished her wand upwards. Her movements were swift and precise, blocking every attack.

When she disarmed him as his wand flew back, she thrusted her wand, pushing the man back and knocking him down. All of a sudden, Elethia rushed to a girl, who's back was facing her. She had beautiful, chestnut hair and pale skin like her. As soon as Elethia reached her arms to hug her, she couldn't help but notice how tiny the girl's body was in comparison to hers. Her heart immediately stung when she felt a chill hit her back. With an agonizing sigh, Elethia slowly let her go, and her feet floated off the floor as she saw herself drift backwards, going farther away until a white light blinded her view.

With a shook and a gasp, Elethia found herself back at King's Cross Station in front of her father and her mother, who were concerned for her. Her heart sped a mile per minute, and her head had never been more painful, so she closed her eyes and thought of her family by the ocean. Feeling the hot sand seeping through her toes and the fresh breeze combing her hair brought peace.

"Another vision?" Thomas asked.

Elethia finally opened her eyes, looked at her father, and nodded. Her entire family said that being a true Cromwell was a gift, because they possess a different kind of magic that no other wizards possess since the sixteenth century. Having pale skin, chestnut hair, and hazel-green eyes does not just signify a true Cromwell. No. It is their precognition. Elethia always hated her gift, because her visions were rarely good. She mainly foresees a terrible future, and the worst part is that there is nothing she can do to change them. Before she forgot, Elethia made a mental note to herself to write what she saw in her journal. She only used it to write down her visions so that she would prepare herself for it.

"Thomas?"

The Cromwell family turned to see a family of three heading their way. Thomas and Claire had plastered smiles on their faces as they made their way over to them. Elethia looked at the young boy next to his parents and noticed something unusual about him. He was pale just like her, except he looked more sick, and he had small, visible scratches all over his face as if he had been mauled by a wild animal.

"Is this Remus?"

The boy looked at Mrs. Cromwell with an awkward smile on his face. The woman next to him placed a comforting hand on his shoulder and smiled sweetly. "Yes." Her next words made Elethia furrow her eyebrows. "Hopefully, he'll be alright. I don't want...Well, you know."

Elethia couldn't help but notice how the woman's son hung his head down as she spoke. She wondered what the boy's mother meant, however, if there was something Elethia learned, it was not to pry in other people's affairs. After all, it was not her business.

A loud whistle echoed the area, and smoke shot out of the train. Elethia embraced her family one last time, but before she could get on the train, her father took her arm and whispered in her ear, "Take care of yourself there. Alright?"

Elethia nodded her head and went inside the train with Remus behind her. She climbed up the steps and traveled downward to find an empty stall. Every now and then, she would turn her head to see if Remus was keeping up with her, and he always was. She also couldn't help but notice how his eyes were so gentle and sweet, yet almost scared as if something horrible was going to happen.

Thud!

The young wizards looked to see a group of older boys shoving another boy, who was much smaller than them. Elethia didn't even hesitate. The witch made her way over to them when the boy fell to the ground and grunted.

"Excuse me." She had their attention as they turned to look at her. "Can't you leave him alone?"

One of the older wizards scowled as he spat his words at her. "Who are you?"

"Elethia."

The tallest wizard took four daunting steps towards her. His height intimidated her, but she refused to show any signs of fear. "Piss off with yer friend there."

Elethia looked at Remus, who pleaded with his eyes for her to turn and walk away, so she did. The boys laughed behind her back. It made her eyebrows twitch. Having enough of their tirade, she drew her wand out, spun around, and casted, "Flipendo!"

One of the wizards fell backwards, hitting the wall, while Remus and the boy on the floor stared at her in awe. The tallest wizard took out his wand and shot daggers at her. Elethia couldn't help but shudder when she saw the look he was giving her. She prepared herself for the worst until they heard, "Is everything alright, dears?"

They all saw an elderly witch, pushing a trolley full of sweets, so one of the elder wizards cut in. "Yeah. Fine."

"I suggest then you find your seats." With one last fearful look at Elethia, the older boys walked to the opposite direction. "Is he alright?"

Elethia and Remus looked at the boy who had mousy brown hair. They helped him up, while the boy brushed off the dust from his robes.

"Yes. Thank you." Elethia said.

The woman eyed them inquisitively but soon brushed it off as she pushed her trolley and told them to find their seats before the train departed. They thanked her and proceeded down to look for empty seats.

"Thanks for that by the way." The mousy boy said. "I'm Peter. Peter Pettigrew." Elethia and Remus gave their names to Peter, and Peter had a smile on his face. "Where'd you learn to do that? That was really wicked!"

"Oh, I learned about it from a spellbook that my great-grandmother kept in her study."

"Well, it was brilliant!"

"Thanks."

"We best get a move on and find seats." Remus interjected.

Elethia and Peter agreed as they continued on to look for seats. When Elethia made it past one stall, she saw two boys in it and were across from each other. One of them wore round glasses and had messy dark hair. The other boy's hair hung over his eyes with a sort of casual elegance, and when he turned his head, their eyes met. She had never seen such grey eyes before. They reminded her of a sea after a storm. It was in a word, hypnotic.

"I found seats!" Peter boasted.

Elethia was the first to look away from the boy as she made her way over to Remus and Peter. She next to Remus, while Peter sat across from them. The young witch couldn't help but notice how Remus's fingers tapped against his knee.

"What's wrong, Remus?"

He turned his head to her and smiled slightly, yet it did not match his eyes. "It's nothing."

Elethia was going to question him further until she heard Peter ask, "So, what house do you want to be in?"

"I think I'll be sorted into Gryffindor. Almost everyone in my family was placed there, except for my great-grandmother. She was in Hufflepuff."

"It doesn't matter to me." Remus replied.

The trio nearly stumbled out of their seats when the train moved. They all looked out the window to look for their family. Elethia beamed a smile at them and waved. Mrs. Cromwell blew her daughter a kiss, while her husband wrapped his arm around her and waved back at Elethia.

It had been a few hours since they left King's Cross Station. When the train stopped, the trio were already in their robes. During the train ride, Peter was asking Elethia what she was writing in her journal, but Elethia told him that it was private. She wished she could tell them about her visions, but it was too risky. She didn't want them to hate her for it or call her a freak.

As soon as they stepped outside, they saw a man who was twice as tall as a normal man and least five times as wide. He also had long tangles of bushy black hair and a beard that covered most of his face.

"First years, follow me." His voice boomed the station.

They all followed him to a bunch of boats as they rode across a black, crystal lake. Elethia gasped seeing where they were heading. A huge, rambling, quite-scary looking castle with a jumble of towers and battlements. It was wicked like everything she hoped it would be.

When they went inside the castle, they were instructed to leave their belongings in the hall, so they did. They then proceeded up the steps where a tall, stern-looking woman with a pointed hate stood from.

"Welcome to Hogwarts!" The witch exclaimed. "The start-of-term banquet will begin shortly, but before you take your seats in The Great Hall, you will be sorted into your houses. The Sorting is a very important ceremony, because while you are here, your house will be something like your family within Hogwarts. The four houses are Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, and Slytherin. While you are at Hogwarts, your triumphs will earn you points, while any rule breaking will lose house points. At the end of the year, the house with the most points is awarded the house cup. The Sorting Ceremony will take place in a few minutes in front of the rest of the school. I suggest you all smarten yourselves up as much as you can while you are waiting. I shall return when we are ready for you."

As soon as she left the room, whispers echoed the room, while Elethia heard Peter ask her and Remus, "How do you think they'd sort us?"

"I don't know." Remus replied.

Before Elethia could say anything, Elethia foot stepped on something, so she looked down to see it was someone's robe and heard, "Watch it!"

She looked to see the same boy with grey eyes on the train. "I'm sorry. I didnt-"

"Why don't you watch where you're going?"

Elethia narrowed her eyes at him, because she could not stand his vile tone. "I said I was sorry."

When she felt a tap on her shoulder, she turned to see the same woman behind her. Her eyes pierced through Elethia, signaling her to stop. Remus whispered to Elethia, telling her to not worry.

"We are ready for you. Follow me." The woman addressed the young wizards and witches.

They followed her into a hall and went passed through a pair of double doors. Elethia had never imagined such an interesting and strange place. Thousands of candles were lit and were floating in midair over four long tables. At the end of the hall, there was another long table that stretched across which was where the teachers were sitting. The woman led the first years down the hall, while the rest of the students, who were sitting at their tables, watched them.

When the witch placed a stool in front of the students, she put a pointed wizard's hat on top of it. The hat was patched, frayed, and extremely dirty. She then stepped forward, holding a roll of parchment, announcing, "When I call your name, you will put on the hat and sit on the stool and be sorted." She then read the parchment and said, "Lily Evans!"

A young girl with dark, red hair and bright, green eyes gasped as she made her way over to the stool. She sat on it, and then the witch placed the hat on the girl's head. The hat twitched for a moment before it said, "GRYFFINDOR!"

One of the tables cheered as Lily got off of the stool and made her way over to the table. One by one, the students were called and sorted into their houses. The two boys from the train, who were Sirius Black and James Potter, were sorted into Gryffindor as was Remus. When it was Peter's turn, Elethia gave him an encouraging smile as he made his way up to the stool until he sat down, and then her smile quickly faded as she saw a pair of grey eyes staring at her. It was Sirius Black with James, Peter, and Remus beside him. They were in the hall, laughing at her, except Remus. He gave her a sad smile. Next thing she knew, she found herself in another room where it looked like she was brewing a potion in a cauldron. Only she could not see her face. The next thing she knew, the cauldron shook, and green haze leaked out of the cauldron. It then exploded in her face.

"Elethia Cromwell!"

The young witch gasped as she looked up at the woman. All eyes were on her, and some people whispered to each other. She tried not to let it bother her as she climbed up the steps and sat on the stool. When the hat was placed on her head, she felt it twitch.

"Hmm. A Cromwell?" The hat said. "Very peculiar. There's plenty of talent I see. Yes. But where to put you..." It paused when Elethia thought of her parents and hoped to be in the same house as them. She then opened her eyes when she heard it say, "I see...Alright. Better be...GRYFFINDOR!"

Elethia heaved a sigh of relief as she made her way over to the cheering table. She sat next to Remus and shook some of the student's hands. Sirius whispered something in James's ear, and James nodded his head, but Elethia didn't care.

When her head turned to the teacher's table, she saw an elderly man in a large, golden chair. His silver hair shone brightly as the ghosts in The Great Hall, and for a split second, she saw him stare at her with a warm smile on his face.

Please let me know what you guys think. This is my second fanfic. I've had this story idea for a while now, so I thought I would just write the first chapter just for fun. I also wrote a Game of Thrones fanfic called "The Temptress", so feel free to check it.
