Carmen woke up slowly, blinking against the sun drowsily. She yawned and stretched her arms above her head (or at least, as much as she could in a car) before looking around.

It looked like they could've been anywhere. It was one of those places that looked like every other place, full of drive-thrus and gas stations.

"You're finally awake."

Carmen sleepily stuck her tongue out at Gray before asking, "How long was I asleep?"

He shrugged casually, chuckling lightly, "Like, an hour and a half? I didn't really want to wake you."

"Where are we?"

"We're a little south of LA. I'm just stopping to get gas."

"Got it," Carmen said, around another yawn.

"You can go back to sleep if you want."

"No, I'm fine. I don't want to sleep."

"You sure?"

"Yeah." She stated, "But I could go for some coffee."

"Yeah, a cuppa sounds really good right now."

She looked out the window at all the drive-thru and fast food signs that lined the street, "Looks like there's a couple of blocks down."

Gray nodded, "Yeah, I see it. Gas, then coffee?"

"Sounds good to me."

When they pulled up to the gas station, Carmen put her jacket on and waited outside with Gray for the gas to finish pumping. They stood close to each other, partly for warmth, as the nearby sea brought in a cold breeze and the sun had yet to rise. With their arms grazing each other, Carmen leaned into Gray's touch, resting her head on his shoulder. But the moment was brief as they separated as soon as they finished topping off the car.

They shivered, pulling in through the drive-thru while they both ordered plain coffee. They took a moment in the parking lot to start drinking it before they went back onto the freeway. They were both a little too tired to speak, though the silence was comfortable.

A/N:

I know. It's been forever and a half. Thank you, Soup, for motivating me. The chapter title comes from Friday I'm in Love.
