Hey guys! I'm back with a new fic, It's gonna be the first in a series! The next few lines will have Mando spoilers, so skip to the italicized part if you don't want any! I hate spoilers /3
I saw pictures of how Ahsoka looks in this new episode, what the fuck. I liked her outfit, but I didn't like the face markings or the montrals and lekku. The face markings are something I can make an exception for, they weren't that bad. But the fucking montrals and lekku. They literally looked like a diy cosplay. I respect diy cosplays, that's hard to do, but when you have the budget they had and the expectations they needed to meet the whole thing fell short. They literally went down in size from how they looked in season seven when she was 17. Shaak Ti's look was right there, it was literally from, like, 2002 and still looks better than live action Ahsoka. I get that since she's gonna be fighting in the ep (I think, I haven't seen it but I saw way too many spoilers) they can't be too long or whatever. But I still think they looked horrible. I like the lightsabers though, very tcw esque!
Disclaimer: I do not know how to fight. I am not a professional. Do not take what I write to be good advice lest it can be dangerous, I seriously have no idea what I am talking about. Thank you.
Chapter One: Everybody was Kung-Fu fighting
Ahsoka stood on the mat, feet a shoulder width apart like she'd been instructed. Her fists were raised in the way that had been demonstrated to her, ready to move at a moment's notice. She was out of her usual tube top and miniskirt with leggings and boots, instead wearing drawstring pants and a loose t-shirt meant for training such as this. Her feet were bare, the soles sticking to the mat a bit.
Rex walked around her, correcting her form. He moved her feet a bit wider with his foot, also bare, and adjusted her wrists. Finally satisfied, he said, "Good. You want a strong core and low center of gravity. Keeping your base wide will help you with balance."
She listened intently, watching as he came around to face her. Suddenly and without warning, he karate chopped her abdomen. She wheezed and bent over, clutching her stomach. "Kriffing hell, what was that for?"
The Captain crossed his arms. "I said you needed a strong core. Clearly you weren't ready."
"We weren't fighting yet!"
He smirked at the indignant protest. "You need to be vigilant at all times." His grin faded. "Clankers or any other foes could sneak up on you at any time. If you aren't ready, you die."
She flinched, that wasn't too appealing. The clone softened, saying, "I don't want you hurt out there, you need to be careful." He put his drill sergeant voice back on. "Always be ready to fight. If someone attacks you you have to be able to defend yourself."
He got into a ready position, matching her stance with his own. They began to circle each other, practicing the footwork. Rex suddenly jabbed with his left fist, Ahsoka barely deflecting it on time. He followed up with his right, that blow stopped as well. At this point her forearms were held at right angles on either side of her torso, completely exposing the vulnerable body part. A hard kick sent her to the ground, where a callused foot was placed over her throat. The Captain stood over her and removed the limb, helping her back to her feet.
"Never leave your chest and face unprotected. My foot could have been a blade or anything deadly. Retract your arm after blocking a blow."
She nodded and took up her stance again. The sparring began anew, a few blows traded before she was inevitably beaten. A sweep to her legs sent her tumbling down, where she laid for a moment before standing huffily. "This is ridiculous. I can do flips and insane acrobatics but I can't even land a punch!"
Rex folded his arms. "You can incorporate your acrobatics into the fight after you learn the basics. Everybody has to start somewhere, Commander. You're learning fast, don't let the mistakes get you down."
She nodded, dismissing her frustration. It would do her no good to have those negative emotions floating around, clouding her mind. A breath released them, allowing her to continue the lesson with an open mind for learning.
The two practiced for hours until the padawan became too tired to effectively train, heading to the cafeteria for some food and then bed. Rex went to do some paperwork, grumbling about technicalities and schedules. They parted, and the sweaty, exhausted and ravished togruta headed for grub.
There were clones inside, creating a boisterous and happy environment, but the energy level was one she could not match. Shuffling through the line until she was served, a muttered thank-you was all she said to the droid. Not checking who was at what table, or even if it was occupied, she sat down next to Fives, the loudest man in the whole 501st.
"Hey Commander, why so tired?"
She looked at him and replied, "Rex is teaching me to fight."
He raised a dark eyebrow. "I thought Jedi were already taught that."
"Not with your fists, not really. We worked on boring forms and drills for hours, he really kicked my shebs when we sparred."
A hard pat on the shoulder came from the trooper next to her. "You'll get it eventually, and I know the feeling. Rex is such a di'kut with drills."
The boys across the table from them and beside Fives nodded sympathetically. They had all been subject to his demanding workouts, her first one was just the tip of the iceberg. At least being a Jedi meant that he wasn't allowed to walk into her quarters at 0400 with buckets of water and a training routine ready, although there was a suspicion that that wouldn't stop him.
The Commander dug into her food, shoving it down her throat so fast everyone at the table watched in awe.
"Whoa," Hardcase commented when she was done. "That has to be a new record. I don't think any of our brothers can eat that fast."
Energized by the food she had just consumed at a godlike speed, the teenager replied, "Really? What was the record before?"
Echo immediately answered, "One minute and thirty seconds." He didn't even look up from the datapad he was reading off of, it was probably another manual. She raised her eyebrows.
"I ate quicker than one minute and thirty seconds?"
A shiny nodded, eyes wide. "You unhinged your jaw like some kind of snake, is that a togruta thing? You just swallowed without even chewing!"
She considered that for a moment. It could be some sort of ability that came with being a predator, maybe it was for quickly eating the prey? "I have no idea. Maybe we should time it later, but I need some shut-eye. Night, boys."
The Commander got up and yawned, taking her tray to be cleaned. She padded down the hallways to her quarters, feet still bare, and got in the refresher. It took a lot of willpower not to fall asleep under the warm stream of water, but it shouldn't be wasted and she could sleep in her bed. Finishing up, she turned it off and dried herself, dressing in loose sleeping clothes before getting in bed.
"Again!"
Ahsoka grit her teeth as she went through the stances and lunges, her leg muscles burning with the effort. This session had been going on for hours, and though her form was improving, it was tiring. She surged forwards and struck the punching bag in a combination of moves, retreating and ducking. She repeated that a few more times, finally stopping to breathe.
Rex walked over and handed her some water. She drank greedily while he said, "Good work. Your form is improving and you grasp the moves quickly."
The togruta gulped down her final mouthful and smiled. "All thanks to your training."
"Now you need to put what you learned to the test. Let's spar."
She put down the water, getting into the stance she'd practiced over and over. They circled each other, watching out for an attack. Rex struck first, attempting an uppercut. She dodged, punching at his stomach like instructed. He brought his hand down on her wrist, blocking the blow. She halted his other hand with her wrist, retreating so as not to leave herself open to kicks.
He grinned, almost feral, at the display of what she'd learned from many, many errors. The fight began again. The teen wasn't supposed to kick, she hadn't been taught the forms and techniques yet, but she still had to keep on guard for assaults from her opponent's feet. One came immediately after she thought that to herself, but it was quickly repelled. They traded blows, the fight lasting longer than before. Eventually tiredness and sloppiness as well as a lack of skill compared to her trainer saw her facedown on the mat, his foot pressed into her back.
The Commander got to her feet, legs shaking a bit from exertion. They had been going for hours, and she had not been conditioned to have the stamina her energetic counterpart boasted. Rex noticed her fatigue and called it a day, so she finally went back to her room to sleep and brace for the next day. They practiced for weeks, interrupted by the occasional mission, and she was starting to get good.
They finally moved on to kicks, The togruta finding out that her legs could pack quite the punch. Rex taught her to always make contact with her heel, that was the part that would hurt. Her pre-trained flexibility was a useful asset, allowing her to kick very high, meaning she could strike his chin. Her balance improved over the weeks, allowing for a lower center of gravity. Then came the combo moves, the Captain demonstrating how to unleash a fury of blows in a quick and efficient way. The duo sparred at every lesson, Ahsoka lasting longer and longer each time.
The clone and Jedi circled each other once again, looking for an opening to attack. The togruta made the first move, feinting left and attacking right. It was blocked, but she kicked him in the stomach. He staggered back, ducking another punch. Getting under her arm, he kneed her in the groin. She buckled but managed to elbow his chin.
The two circled again, not noticing when a few boys from the 501st came in. Echo and Fives were quietly arguing over something as Hardcase and Jesse placed bets on the fight. Kix was watching everyone with a tired look on his face that would probably never fade, carrying a medkit in case it was required. Rex looked up a bit at the movement and looked quite startled to see his brothers. The Commander took advantage of that, vowing to look up later, and aimed a kick at his face. Her foot connected with the side of his head and he stumbled, tripping to land on the ground. Before he could get up and fight, she stepped on his chest, securing victory.
Everyone was silent for a moment, and then the spectators started laughing. She looked up to see them and smiled, getting off the sputtering Captain to talk to her men. "Hey boys, what brings you here?"
Fives stepped forward, electing himself the group leader. "We wanted to see how the training was going, Commander. Clearly you don't need much more if you can beat Rex into the dirt."
The flustered Captain's voice came from behind, "I was distracted!"
She grinned and threw over her shoulder, "You should be ready for anything! Be vigilant!"
They all howled with laughter, Rex crossing his arms. He had to admit that they had a point. This was exactly what he had been teaching the little one, he should be proud. She had shown skill and intelligence in her taking advantage of his distraction, it was a good thing. She was learning from the best, after all.
Ahsoka grunted as a cable wrapped around her wrist, lightsaber going flying. The shoto was still in her left hand, but a blaster bolt to the hilt sent it flying. She yanked the arm attached to the cord, pulling Cad Bane closer so she could kick the blaster out of his hand. He yelled in pain and retaliated with a harsh pull on the cord, making her stumble. Now they were both weaponless on the landing pad she had confronted him on, his ship mere meters away.
The bounty hunter growled, "Get out of here before I fry your brains out, kid."
She smirked. "Hard to do without your blaster, Bane."
"Can you really beat me without your fancy Jedi sword?"
"Let's see." The two attacked at the same time, and her training those two years ago with Rex kicked in. She dodged and attacked, blocked and parried, being weary of the cord yet using it to her advantage. Eventually he pressed a button on his gauntlet and it released, and the Jedi started utilizing her newfound weapon. She slashed it through the air, barely missing the slippery Duros. She used it like a whip, managing to slap the hat off of his stupid blue head.
He glared at her. "You know how hard it is to find a nice hat when you're a wanted man? You're gonna pay for that."
The Commander barely stopped herself from rolling her eyes, keeping in mind that this was, in fact, an active fight and her opponent was angry. She and her master were here on a mission, Bane had just happened to be attempting to accomplish the opposite of their goal. He was stealing data files they'd been sent to retrieve, hoping to escape onto his ship. Anakin had run for one of the landing pads, her the other, and she had happened to search the landing pad that slimy bounty hunter was on.
Reminding the togruta that she was in the midst of a fight, he kicked at her face. She stepped back and slashed the whip at him, but he was ready and snatched it out of the air. The padawan's eyes widened in surprise and she wasn't prepared when he pulled back on the cord, making her trip. A kick to her shins found her on the ground, his knee on her back and hands around her wrists. Ah kriff, her master would never let her hear the end of this.
The teenager struggled as she felt one of his hands move off of her wrists, keeping both pinned behind her in one spot. She inwardly groaned when the feeling of binders clamping around her wrists came through, making her thrash more. Bane yanked her head back by the back lek, threatening, "Keep thrashing and I shock you, little lady."
She stilled, knowing that it wasn't worth it and she just had to hold out a little longer. "Why don't you just kill me, Bane?" Definitely not the best ploy to keep him talking, but he wouldn't actually kill her. Hopefully.
"Because you're worth more alive." His answer to her question was both reassuring and unsettling, but it was nice to be not dead.
He grabbed the binders and dragged his new captive to her feet, shoving her forwards as he walked around the landing pad to pick up their lost weapons. Her mouth thinned in distaste when he snatched up her lightsabers, she didn't want his grubby little hands all over them.
Once Bane got his blaster back he pressed it into the small of her back, a threat and a warning. Ahsoka just had to stall for another minute, her Master was sure to arrive soon. After seeing the landing pad he checked empty it would be easy to realize that she had faced Cad Bane herself, and it didn't exactly work out last time. Just slow him down until help arrives.
The Commander pretended to trip, dragging herself to the ground. Her leg "accidentally" struck her captor's knee, making him grunt in pain. He yanked up on her binders, hurting her arms, and spat, "Get up, you togruta schutta!"
She glared daggers into the landing pad at his comment, but dragged herself to a standing position. Getting shot was not high on her list of things she wanted to do. Dragging her feet, the teen finally angered Bane enough to shove her forwards, making the unready girl stumble for real this time.
"Let her go!"
The togruta looked over her shoulder and smiled at her Master. His lightsaber was raised and pointed at Bane, whose expression soured at seeing another Jedi. He pivoted, pulling his prisoner around with him, and pressed his blaster to the side of her head. His free hand was on her shoulder, pressing down as if he could actually restrain her properly.
The teen grinned. "Hey, Skyguy, I thought you weren't gonna show up. It would have been a real shame if I had to crash this sleemo's ship to get those files."
The Duros pressed his blaster into her head harder, snarling, "If you don't let me get on my ship I'll fry your little pet's brains, Skywalker. I'll send her out an escape pod if you want, I don't want you Jedi messing with my business again!"
Anakin was angry, his hand tight around his lightsaber. "Release her now and maybe I'll let you live, bounty hunter." His words were laced with venom, spat out with an aggression the Council would've frowned upon.
Before Bane could respond, Ahsoka threw her head back, slamming her lek into his face. As he stumbled, she kicked backwards, hitting him square in the stomach. His blaster shot went wide, and she sprinted to the other side of the platform where her Master was waiting. The General cut off her restraints, and Bane aimed a shot at the unarmed togruta. Anakin deflected it and the Duros had to dive out of the way of the returned bolt. As he pressed a button on his gauntlet the padawan reached out her arms and called her lightsabers from his belt with the aid of the Force, reuniting with the familiar blades.
The bounty hunter saw that he was outnumbered and sprinted for his ship, the ramp coming down. Anakin charged but was repelled as a spray of fire came from Bane's gauntlet, forcing him to dive out of the way. The door closed behind its owner, the ship firing up. As it rose, the cannons activated and started firing, making both Jedi dodge instead of attacking.
The duo cursed as Bane escaped with the files, the two of them heading to the Twilight to return home.
Ahsoka glared at Rex as he lectured her about losing to Bane. "You're better than him Commander, you should have won that fight."
Fives smirked. "I would have thought all those sparring sessions with the Captain would have helped you enough to win! He may be one of the best, but you're better. Or maybe-" he dropped his voice to a conspiratorial stage-whisper- "Rex isn't as good as he thinks and Cad Bane would have beaten him, too!"
The Captain bristled mid-rant, turning on his brother. "Or maybe a sparring session would prove you wrong." He turned back to the togruta he had been lecturing. "You need more practice. Our sessions are being restarted. Meet me in the training room at 0500 tomorrow morning."
She groaned as he left the room.
End of one-shot!
Notes:
-I thought to myself, 'what would make for a cute one-shot of Ahsoka for the first chapter? I know! Rex teaching her how to fight!"
-Again, I don't know anything about fighting so don't take my advice seriously. Please
-I feel like Rex would have only one teaching mode: intense drill sergeant. That being said, he knows when to rest.
-Bane: *pulls on the cord* Ahsoka: *shocked pikachu face*
-I like at least some light whump/Ahsoka capture, sue me.
-I feel like the Jedi wouldn't have taught their children how to actually fight without a lightsaber, so Rex went thats my job now
Tune in next week for chapter 2!
