Chapter 21 – Mr. Potato Head

As the black graduated in to dawn, teal eyes burst open with a brightness that rivalled the sun.

For once, in a rare phenomenon, Brooklyn was up and out of bed with a good level of liveliness as he threw himself in front of the window to witness the slowly rising sun.

Today was a special day.

One that he had so many conflicting and racing feelings about, despite not having much to do with himself personally.

But it did involve Kai. And therefore, was the centre of his universe.

He looked back at the bed and smiled at the still deeply sleeping figure.

Kai was starting university today...

He could officially say his boyfriend was a smart, handsome college student.

Fannncyyyy!

And Kai had worked so hard. Worries and niggles aside, he wanted him to go out there and kick ass. Make himself the success he deserved to be while he did what he could from the sidelines to help him along.

As far as right now was concerned, that was probably coffee.

And a good, nutritious breakfast to feed those brain cells!

As the minutes passed by, the sun rose higher and the rays began to shyly pour in through the bedroom window. The once sound asleep form stirred, fair face scrunching some as Kai came round and stretched himself out; his back arching and arms reaching upwards with a sigh of content after relaxing back on the sheets.

He laid still for a moment, eyes remaining closed as he basked in the blissful silence when the sound of a sudden clatter downstairs had them shooting open and his head snap to his right.

He was alone?

Sluggishly easing himself up and out of bed, he shuffled out onto the landing and head for where the noise was coming from. Wearing nothing but his sweats, he scratched at his fluffy slate head and rubbed at one of his eyes almost childlike as he stood in the kitchen doorway. Something smelling good assaulting his nostrils but it was way too early for him to eat anything just yet.

"What are you doing up?" he croaked, letting his hand flop back down to his side.

"Goooooooooooooooood morning, college boy!" Brooklyn beamed and chuckled as he abandoned the stove for a moment to leap at him and pull him in to a sleepy cuddle.

"Can't let you face your first day on an empty stomach, can I?"

Kai let himself be dragged forward. His face sinking into Brooklyn's warm chest like a pillow where his eyes closed again and enjoyed the embrace.

"I wouldn't have minded..." he sleepily mumbled as Brooklyn swayed him some. "You didn't have to."

Brooklyn finally let him go at the smell of the bacon crisping a little too much.

"I know I don't have to! I want to!"

At being released Kai unfortunately had to open up his eyes again and leant back in the doorway for balance. The smell of food now waking up his belly and making it growl.

"Well, thanks..." he sent as he rubbed over his stomach that was looking more toned with it being empty. "I can't see the first day being all that though. Probably just meeting teachers and getting us all set up."

A beeping sound made Brooklyn let out an excited noise.

The bread maker!

He turned off the stove and went to throw himself at his new baby, opening the top and leaning in to inhale the heavenly scent with his eyes closed.

"Oooooohhhh yessssssssss!"

Even Kai's nostrils flared when the appliance opened up and the delightful smell of warm, freshly baked bread filled the kitchen.

"New toy?" he asked peering over.

"Yep! Been eyeing one and figured this was the perfect occasion!" Brooklyn grinned as he brought his new creation out. "And it looks perfect! Right! You sit down, I'll just need a few more minutes!"

Kai cocked a brow at being shooed but silently did as he was told anyway, taking himself over to the small table and chairs in the corner of the kitchen and easing into a seat. All of this was so unnecessary but he wasn't going to argue or throw it back in Brooklyn's face. He'd be lying if he said he didn't like this treatment anyway, especially so early on a morning when all he could be bothered to do was make himself a coffee.

He didn't even have to do that. Minutes later as promised, freshly brewed coffee was placed in front of him as well as a plate of carefully arranged bacon, eggs, mushrooms...whatever that thing was and some toasted fresh bread.

Kai's eyes widened as he took it all in, a little taken back at the full breakfast first thing on a Monday morning and turned to his left where Brooklyn had sat down beside him with a mere plate of toast.

"Wait, you didn't make yourself some?"

"Hn? No? Why would I?"

"Just... seems a bit excessive, no?"

Brooklyn set his toast back down as his face plummeted.

"...What?"

Noticing it, even with how sleepy Kai was, the system in his mind screamed for him to back track.

Retreat! RETREAT!

"I mean, uh, it just, would've been nice for us to have had the same y'know? You deserve it after making it all. Doesn't seem fair is all."

Luckily for him, Brooklyn brightened right back up.

"No, no! Sometimes it's good to feel like king of the castle! It's a big day for you! And besides, I don't eat that much in the mornings." He shrugged.

Hn. Neither did he, yet 'king of the castle' here was now sat with a full plate he wasn't sure he could stomach.

"Well, feel free to take some mushrooms at least," Kai offered, stabbing a load onto his fork and holding it up to him.

Brooklyn gave him a smile and held up his plate to take it.

He was so thoughtful!

"Okay..."

The table went quiet for a minute as they went about their breakfast, until Brooklyn remembered to tell him.

"I laid out some clothes in the living room. Ease the hassle. I know what you're like."

Brows frowned some as Kai looked to him mid bite of toast.

"What's that supposed to mean?"

"Well, knowing you, you'll either take an hour of deliberation if you're in the mood to impress, or you'll walk out looking like a vagrant not giving a shit. So I took the liberty of covering either scenarios." he giggled cheekily.

The furrow deepened further into a scowl as Kai huffed his head away from him, mouth full now as he took another exaggerated bite of toast and chewed to keep him from retorting.

Brooklyn smirked at the unimpressed look on his face.

"Don't worry, I only picked the best. Have some faith in me." He winked.

Kai let a small smile slip on the rim of his coffee cup he'd just lifted to his lips.

"I know you picked 'the best', but just because you know how to pick a man doesn't mean you can pick a decent outfit..."

Brooklyn snorted.

"I was referring to the best of your clothes, you arrogant person."

Noting Brooklyn had finished with his plate, Kai nod his head to him as he set his mug back down.

"Go on then, show me what you consider my finest," he prompted, genuinely intrigued as to which of his clothes the redhead deemed he looked best in.

Brooklyn lit up, the kitchen chair scraping roughly against the floor as he bolted out only to come back with some carefully arranged hangers.

"M'kay, so...this one if you wanted to maintain the whole man of mystery vibe...this one if you wanted to look a little more college-y and respectable." He explained as he held them both up, "I have a few backups in mind as well if these do not please his Lordship."

A smile crept on the others face. Both shirts were great choices he had to admit. Though Kai wasn't entirely sure on how the short sleeved black button up one gave off 'man of mystery vibes'...

"Either of those two are fine," he shrugged off. "I'll let you decide."

His offer clearly pleased the other immensely.

"Man of Mystery!"

And so it was settled.

With breakfast done, Kai freshly showered and dressed in the black open shirt with a white tee underneath he was good to go. Hair fussed with and styled to perfection and smelling like a man ready to take on the world.

He was just putting in the final textbook into his backpack when Brooklyn joined him from the kitchen holding what looked like a lunch box of some sort.

"I made you this! Put that bread maker to good use! It's your favorite, don't forget to eat it cause I know you, you'll get too preoccupied to remember to eat!"

Kai huffed a laugh and took the box from him once he'd held it out, looked it over for a second before too sticking it in his backpack with a smile as Brooklyn's words weren't all that wrong. With everything bound to go on today there was a high chance he would just be too busy to grab something to eat.

"Hn, thanks, mom," he teased zipping up his bag and throwing it over one shoulder when his eyes clocked the time. "Right I'm gonna have to get going."

As he turned, Brooklyn flapped as he caught sight of a small piece of fluff on the black shirt.

Unacceptable.

"Wait! " He fussed, turning him back round to defluff him like a loving monkey and taking it upon himself to fiddle with the shirt fabric that had crinkled under the bag strap to brush it down.

Kai rolled his eyes and tut as the fair hands continued to pick at non existent fluff on him.

"Is this necessary?" he dully asked as the teal eyes opposite continued to scrutinise.

"Of course! First impressions are everything! Start as you mean to go on! Dress for success! You're on your way to becoming a successful, sickeningly handsome business man in perfectly tailored suits an- oooooooh, c'mere..." he purred as the hands gripped the pristine shirt and pulled him in for a kiss.

Kai's eyes widened as his body was suddenly pulled forward and his own hands grabbed the others arms to steady himself.

"Mmf-! Brook! I really need to go or I'm gonna be late," he pressed, pulling himself away.

Brooklyn wiggled his eyebrows.

"Something to keep you going til you get home. And one more for luck." He said as he placed another peck on his lips.

He couldn't help but brush the fabric down again for one last check.

Urgh, he was so proud of him...

"Good luck...I love you."

"Yeah, love you too, now stop," Kai replied as he swatted the hands away, over the fussing now and stepped for the door. "I'll see you later, okay?" He almost seemed to reassure as Brooklyn stood there looking like a housewife seeing her husband go off to war.

"Okay! ...Message me, yeh?" He waved off as Kai turned his back to leave.

Heading out Kai started on his trek to the university which was around a half hour walk. It was a pleasant morning. Couldn't have asked for a nicer start to the school year to be honest. Though, he imagined these walks during the cold wind and rain come winter would be awful. He wasn't looking forward to that at all.

After twenty minutes or so he checked the text that had just come through from Lucas saying he'd just got there and was stood outside the school gates. He didn't need to hang around and wait for him. He was sure he'd be able to figure out where he needed to go. Never needed anyone to hold his hand before and he wasn't intending on starting now. Kai had to admit though, he seemed a nice kid.

When he'd accepted his friend request Kai naturally had a slight nosey at his profile. He appeared to be the sporty type. Liked soccer and seemed a pretty popular guy. Usually would've deemed his sort an asshole at a first glance, (The All starz admittedly came to mind) but overall, Lucas was pretty chill. Seemed a promising friendship he figured. After previous events though he was still somewhat weary. Would hate to make the same mistake twice...

Turning round the corner lo and behold Lucas was stood there as he said he was, and as he neared his expression brightened some when he clocked onto him and sent him a wave.

"Heyy dude!"

Kai sent him a brief nod when he got to him, shifting his backpack on his shoulder.

"Ready to go in?"

Lucas bit his nervous/excited grin.

"No. But tough shit really huh?"

"Mhmm," Kai hummed before huffing a small laugh, the two of them heading through the gates and joining the sea of people walking up to the main building ahead.

"Why are you nervous?" he then asked turning his head to face him..

Lucas shrugged, holding the straps of his backpack in a death grip.

"Eh. You know. Venturing in to the unknown. My dad gave me a pep talk about being an adult now and I'm just like 'when the hell did this happen!? I wasn't informed!'"

A light smile appeared on Kai's face as they walked side by side. Not that he could really relate to what Lucas had said just now since he felt like he'd been an adult for as long as he could remember, but he could empathise.

"Guess it's sometimes easier to get thrown in at the deep end. Have to just deal and get on with it."

"I guess...really wish I'd learned how to use the washing machine before I got thrown in though."

A light chuckle escaped Kai at that though couldn't help but eye roll. Seemed like he was just destined to be a babysitter.

"I can show you, don't worry."

x-x-x

Contrary to the chilled day he was originally expecting, the time had passed by like a whirlwind and before Kai knew it he was back home, brain stuffed and packed with info and just generally mentally beat.

With the sound of his bag dropping on the floor, he alerted the Beast.

Footsteps pattering rapidly until a red blur burst in to his vision.

"Welcome home! How was it!? Tell me everything! Oh my god, haven't stopped thinking about you all day! Come! Sit! I ordered us sushi to celebrate!"

Kai almost jumped at the sudden burst of energy that contrasted with his lack of entirely.

"There's nothing to tell?" he plainly answered, arm getting dragged along now to the couch where he was plonked down with Brooklyn opposite, sparkling teal eyes staring intently at him for the vital update of his day.

"Ooohhh poppycock! What's the building like!? What did you do today!? Was it just registering or did you have classes!? Did you eat my sandwich!? Did you meet anyone?"

Kai's lips had parted though before he could answer a question another had been hurled at him. He understood Brooklyn's excitement... sorta... not really... but did they have to do this now? He'd literally just walked through the damn door...

"Yes, I ate your sandwich. It was very nice, thank you." He decided on answering first presuming that question was the most important to him.

"And it was mainly just one big induction," he continued. "We went through the curriculum, got given a shed load of information on stuff I won't bore you with, met the teachers and, oh, remember the kid from the library? Me and him pretty much just stuck together all day. Got lost a few times. The building is huge."

Brooklyn's glowing at the sandwich praise dimmed towards the end.

"Oh you diiiiiid? That's nice. Got a friend thereeee!"

...An asshole one.

"Wouldn't go that far," Kai scoffed. "He's just a guy in my class."

-That had him full on belly laughing at lunch over some tale of what he did on New Years and who slyly shared his skittles with him during the first assembly. It was too early to consider him a friend though... Even though they did get along really well and had organised to meet at the gates again tomorrow morning as they were heading out for home.

They weren't friends though. Just, associates, at best.

"Anyways, what have you been doing today?" Kai then diverted.

"Oh, just work. Was an easy four hour shift...sooooooooo why didn't you message?" He asked with his sweet tone still intact.

"Uh, just, didn't get chance. Was a pretty hectic day."

It wasn't a complete lie. Today was a busy one. Though if Kai was honest he had actually just completely forgot to text him with everything going on. Come to think of it he hadn't actually looked at his phone all day...

Well. Apart from showing Lucas some photos he'd taken from when he and the Bladebreakers went to America after it came up in conversation. A road trip across the states was on his bucket list apparently.

"Ordered sushi you said?"

Brooklyn pouted at his answer, but nodded in acceptance.

"Yep! Hang on, I'll go get it..."

He took himself to the kitchen and to the fridge where the glorious feast lay on a pretty platter and scowled.

Since when did Kai make friends so quickly?

And why would he even talk to him after the way he'd mocked him in the bookstore.

...Fuckin' called him a stoner. The audacity!

Urgh, he didn't like him!

If it were the other way around, if he'd chatted to someone and that person then belittled Kai, that person would have a swollen lip.

So why were they now campus cronies!?

First day jitters? Yeh. He'd ditch that loser soon enough...

"TADAAAA!" he announced with his grin in place as he set down the gorgeous platter of pink and orange raw fish in front of him.

Digging straight in and then feasting on each other for dessert, it was soon morning where the routine started all over again. Brooklyn had rose at the crack of dawn once again to ensure his love had the best start to the day with coffee and a decent breakfast all the while Kai accepted though again deemed it all unnecessary.

Having being waved off, Kai took the usual walk to the university where he met Lucas at the gates again. The two briefly chatting about their evenings as they head in and went to their first lecture.

Annnndddd as expected, it was long, tedious and neither really had a clue what was going on.

The second wasn't much better.

And a mandatory class about basic computer skills? What year was this!?

Tired and frazzled, they both stood a little aimlessly outside the lecture hall as other students trickled out.

"...Hungry?" Lucas asked, looking done with life.

"Starving." Kai admitted mirroring his expression.

The downside with having breakfast nowadays meant his metabolism kick-started earlier so by lunch he was ready to eat a scabby horse...

Heading to the canteen the two sat opposite each other at a table and dug out their lunches from their backpacks. Opening his box up Kai frowned some at the yellow note stuck to his lid before shaking his head and smirking some.

Hey, college boy... Just in case no one has told you today, you're amazing. Have a great day.

"...Are you smirking at a sandwich?"

The smile instantly dropped from Kai's face and his eyes snapped up and across to Lucas who was looking at him with a brewing smirk of his own.

"N-no! Just.. nothing, don't worry about it," he brushed off turning the lid over and setting it on the table.

Lucas grinned even more.

"N'awwwww, a message from your mom?" He asked playfully, having caught a slight glimpse of the yellow note.

Kai let out a scoff as he lifted up his sandwich.

"No," he dully replied, "Was nothing."

Lucas' brow lifted, older brother instincts kicking in.

"Oh really?" He asked before jutting his hand out like a strike from a viper, yanking the paper.

"Let me see that for myself..."

"HEY-" Kai yelped, eyes going wide though it was too late, the note was already in front of the others face and eyes were scanning across the short message.

"N'AAWWWW! It is from your mom!" Lucas grinned at him. "Hey don't feel bad, buddy. My mom still buys my clothes."

Violet eyes rolled.

"It isn't from my mom..." Kai repeated, tone showing his annoyance as he reached over and snatched the small square back just as fast and stuffed it in his backpack.

Lucas didn't put up a fight, but his grin remained intact.

"Self affirmation?" He pried.

Kai sent him a look, unimpressed entirely.

"Sure," he huffed before taking a bite of his sandwich. "Idiot..."

Lucas looked disappointed at the reaction before wiggling his brows, grin back on track.

"Giiiirllllfriiiiiend?"

Kai internally cringed but the smile before him was almost contagious. He remembered a time when he'd have taken his sandwich, which was delicious as per, and go sit at another table to get away from the interrogation game but there was something about this kid he just liked.

He was clearly mellowing in his old age...

"Almost..."

Lucas blinked at him.

"...Wife?"

Kai face palmed, the game he'd briefly entertained now going straight out the window.

"Remember the redhead I was with at the library?" He drip fed, hoping the other had something between his ears and could figure this one out on his own now.

The cogs turned before the eyes widened.

"Herb guy!?"

Kai sent him another look. "He's called Brooklyn, and yes."

The huge eyes stayed with a slow nod.

"Ooooooooooooohhhhhh...so you're...a couple?"

"Mhmm." Kai hummed as he chewed another bite of his sandwich, feeling a little awkward sensing Lucas's eyes all on him, judging...

Lucas squirmed.

"Sooooooo I managed to upset your boyfriend on first meeting him then?" He asked guiltily.

"Mm, sorta..." Kai smirked, noting the shift of the others demeanour. "I'm sure he's over it by now though so, don't worry." He brushed off though wasn't entirely sure if he believed his own words or not.

Lucas rubbed the back of his head.

"Well...I'm sorry for dissin' your guy."

Kai shrugged. He knew he'd only been teasing, ain't like he was deeply offended by it.. Brooklyn on the other hand...

"I'll let him know. How about you anyway?" He diverted. "You with anyone?"

Lucas turned to stone.

A blue, gloomy stone...

"No..."

It was Kai's turn to blink and look confused.

Surely being single wasn't that big of a deal was it?

"Well, I'm sure you'll meet someone," he awkwardly offered. "Plenty of people at school."

Lucas continued to look like a wet Thursday.

"Yeh...maybe...doubt my type is here."

A brow rose opposite him, Kai not really following the idea of having a 'type.' Did he have a type? Probably hard to say having only ever been with one person.

"And what would that be?" He decided to question.

He got a pitiful, sad little smile back.

"My ex girlfriend."

Ohhhhh... the face made sense now. Must've been a recent break up.

"Sorry..." Kai uttered, not really sure if that's what you were meant to say but said it anyway.

Lucas shrugged.

"S'fine. Wasn't you she fucked..." he replied with a hurt bite in his tone.

Watching him take a huffed tear of his own sandwich like it had done the dirty on him too, Kai took another small awkward bite of his again, really having nothing to offer him there except:

"... What a bitch."

Lucas snapped his head back at him, looking furious for a moment before shaking his head and sighing.

"Anyway...Intro to Marketing next, right?"

"Uh, yeah," Kai answered grabbing at the topic change with both hands, the two then sticking with the school talk until the bell sounded and ended lunch.

Intro to marketing was as thrilling as anyone would've expected it to be, and after that came a lecture about, something.

With another hour passing by, finally the last bell of the day rang and they were all free to go.

With the meeting spot in the morning arranged once again Kai trudged home, and was met with the face that always brightened when he locked on him.

"Heeeeyyyy gorgeous! How was your day?" A blinding smile greeted, but then didn't give him a chance to answer. "God, you look tired. Come sit. You want somethin to drink? Should have dinner ready in an hour or so."

Kai just nodded to him, not that he could ever match Brooklyn's energy but especially not at this moment in time. That last hour of Mr Turner's voice droning on, and on had royally wiped him.

Brooklyn took his shoulders and steered him to the couch.

"Here. Give me your bag, I need to wash your lunch box!"

Lazily handing him the backpack Kai flopped down on the sofa. He'd been sat down all day anyway but his mind couldn't bring himself to do anything else right now.

"What is for dinner?" He managed to ask.

"Steak and homemade fries!" Brooklyn informed him gleefully as he skipped back to the kitchen along with the heavy bag.

He hummed as he unzipped it, searching through boring looking books in search of the plastic box to wash.

He pulled it out, scrunched up yellow paper flopping out on to the table with it that caused a frown.

He set the box down and picked it up.

Suddenly he stopped humming.

...

Why would he scrunch his note up...?

Back in the living room Kai let his head fall back on the sofa, head in a dull and empty daze as pans clattered and the smell of steak grilling started to float through.

Mmm... a perfect dinner to make him feel better. Brooklyn always was good with his meat...

The door at long last opened, the happy dumpling smiling his way over.

"Dinner!" He announced as he dropped the plates down with a bit more force than usual.

The small smile that had been sat on Kai's face slowly dissolved when he took in the practically cremated steak on the plate. His nose curling some in slight disgust and disappointment.

That was a funny looking medium rare...

"... Did you, forget about it or something?"

"No? Why?" He asked back with a bemused tone to his voice.

"Just seems a little... well done is all..."

"Oh does it...? If you'd rather something else..." Brooklyn 'offered' with his smile in place.

"No no, it's fine..." Kai backtracked not wanting to make a fuss, though, it wasn't really fine, he feared he'd snap his knife trying to cut into this thing.

Attempting it anyway and succeeding to a degree, he pulled off the chunk of meat from his fork and chewed... and chewed... and chewed...

God it was like boot leather.

"So... how was your day?" He then forced out between his jaw workout.

"Oh goooood! I had a tidy up before work. Went and got everything for dinner. What about yooou?"

With an almost painful swallow, resisting the need to shudder at the not so pleasant taste, Kai reached for his drink and shrugged a little.

"Was alright I guess. Won't bore you with the details."

Washing some of the burnt down he set the glass back on the table when his face lit up some as he remembered something from earlier.

"Oh! There was something actually. Lucas apologised about the comments he made at the library. Was sat with him at lunch and he hadn't realised you weren't just a friend. So yeah. He's sorry."

Brooklyn lifted a brow and made a face as he cut more roughly in to his food.

"Oh did he now? I didn't realise dickish comments were fine unless you were dating someone. How enlightening."

Kai sent him a look, roughly cutting into his own food but for genuine need rather than due to inner rage.

"Will you just drop it? He's an alright guy. Just the joker type, that's all."

"I'm not the one who brought it up." He shrugged.

"Right. Forget I said anything then," Kai huffed before shoving another piece of steak in his mouth.

They just wouldn't talk at all if he wanted to be like that. Suited him fine. Wasn't like his jaw wasn't aching as it was anyway with this sorry excuse of a dinner.

Brooklyn's face turned sulky.

"Don't know why you give me such a hard time about it. You would have been annoyed too. Only apologises when he finds out we're together? How am I meant to take that?"

"However you want," Kai snapped back, unsure if it was the food or the male beside him he was losing his patience with. "He said he was sorry, and that's that. If you don't wanna accept it then fine, don't. That's your choice."

Brooklyn frowned at him.

"Nice to know you have my back there, honey..."

Kai set his knife and fork down giving up.

"I do, but sometimes there's just no winning with you Brooklyn. I know I can be hard to please, but damn. You wanted an apology, he gave a genuine one, and you're still talking shit, so, we'll just drop it, I'm not arguing with you over it."

"Sure. A genuine apology is passed on through someone else and only after finding out their relationship status...but fine, yes. Let's drop it. I'd rather not let some nobody ruin our evening." He turned his head a little to see how he took that.

A sound of annoyance escaped Kai before flinging over a question that seemed to have been sitting on his tongue for a while now.

"Why do you get like this over everyone I talk to? It's like you go out of your way to intentionally find something to dislike about my friends and it makes zero sense."

Brooklyn's mouth dropped open.

"Me!? I find something to dislike!? Was it not Tyson that went nuts because you had coffee with me? And was it not whats-his-name that insulted me on our first meeting? This is what I'm talking about, Kai! You never have my back! You always side with them and quite frankly, its hurtful!"

Kai let out an exasperated sigh.

"How many months ago was that? You know why Tyson acted how he did back then but we're past that now! But okay, what's your issue with Ray then? Or Max? The hell have those two ever done to you? Because you made it pretty clear you have a chip on your shoulder about them too!"

He should have known the peaceful, almost pleasant vibes of his birthday party were too good to be true. Though he could have been forgiven for the clear foolishness as there were plenty of other times after that where the civility remained. Everyone seeming to be mature adults that had made a truce, but then other times... somebody decided they were mortal enemies again because, oh he didn't know - the wind changed direction perhaps?! It was old. Pointless. And Kai was so sick of it...

"Why does it matter how many months ago it was?!" Brooklyn argued back, "And don't make out that this is somehow solely my doing! It's clear as day they still hate me!" he raised his voice. "I've tried being nice! Can see it all over their faces though! I'm not blind!"

Kai was ready to just get up and walk out of there before he did or said something he might regret but he remained put. Never did he think he'd see the day though when he defended the brat pack.

"They really don't though! Seriously, where are you getting that from? They always invite you along to stuff, include you, try to get to know you! Even though how you are with them seems to depend on the fuckin' lunar cycle!"

He took in a breath, feeling himself getting too riled and deciding to take a leaf out of Brooklyn's book before he really kicked off. Maybe it only worked when combined with holding a purple rock or...while doing some batshit yoga pose or something. It hadn't quite done the trick.

"Have you ever thought maybe the issue here is you?" he continued. "You being too insecure and hung up about something that doesn't even matter anymore to take them at face value? Trust me, I can vouch for them on how forgiving they are! They are totally genuine. Them hating you is all in your head Brooklyn so just, stop acting crazy!"

Brooklyn looked as though he'd drop kicked him in the gut, hurt before furious.

The color in his face slowly grew to match his hair.

"You never call me that again..." he growled and snarled.

The sudden dark tone caused Kai to falter some, instantly realising a line must've been crossed though once again didn't understand what was so bad that had snapped something within the other.

"Then quit acting like you are..." he sighed out though retained some of his bite. "You're so touchy lately and there's no need it."

Brooklyn's eye twitched with suppressed anger, snatching his plate to take to the kitchen.

"Sure. No need at all."

The rest of the evening was as quiet as anyone would expect after that. The two of them keeping themselves to themselves and doing their own thing with a dark cloud looming over them.

The bed that usually held warmth, if not a steamy heat, was wintery that night. Brooklyn having rolled over clutching his little piece of amethyst for dear life. Great soother for rage...

Though the crystal's vibes didn't radiate to the form next to him that held it's own simmering anger that wouldn't subside. It hadn't even been that big of an argument yet Kai seemed to struggle to nod off that night. Determined to stay in the same position with his back facing the redhead, he chose stubbornness over comfort and laid awake for what felt hours.

The other, however, managed to drift off easily and instead woke at the crack of dawn. Hours before his alarm.

He rolled over and smiled at the glorious person beside him before remembering he was a prick and was mad at him.

He threw back the covers.

Revenge...

Revenge was needed...

Sluggishly waking to a racket downstairs some time later, Kai eased himself up in bed and rubbed at his stinging eyes.

Coffee... he needed coffee...

Turning to his right he was alone as he usually was, deducing the noise was Brooklyn making the two of them breakfast.

Thanks purple rock... All must be well now...

He waited. His coffee often brought up to him in bed.

...

Maybe not this morning. That was fine. He'd go down.

Dragging himself, he appeared in the kitchen where Brooklyn sat smiling at his phone with a cup of steaming hot, freshly brewed coffee.

The only cup in sight.

Kai bit his tongue, not wanting to give the other the satisfaction of knowing such selfishness first thing on a morning had bothered him. Was fine. He'd just make his own! He was a big boy. If anything his coffees were better anyway...

And then the crunch of the toast holding scrambled eggs and smoked salmon made his ears twitch.

Only one portion.

"Mmmmmmmmm!" The taunting drawl streamed out his ass-ish throat, "This is crazy good..."

Kai's jaw tensed, the steaming aroma of his own morning brew not enough to soothe him after that. Was fine. So what if that was his favourite breakfast, he usually skipped it anyway!

"Good. I'm glad," he spat, throwing a sarcy smile that instantly dropped off his face as he went to step out the kitchen with mug in hand.

"No wonder it suits me, huh!" Brooklyn fired back in a melodic tone with a good dash of bite.

"Perfectly, babe." Kai sneered sickly sweet, taking his drink upstairs to get ready for school.

Brooklyn snarled and threw the toast back down on his plate, no longer hungry.

SWINE!

He'd get him another way...

Having had his coffee, got himself showered and dressed for school, all Kai needed was his backpack which was downstairs. He wasn't even going to say bye to him. Guy could go fuck himself.

Stomping back downstairs he clocked Brooklyn sat on the couch with said bag, oh so conveniently, beside him. Ooooh... what a prick...

Brooklyn bothered to open an eye as he came round to get it.

"Your lunch is in there. Have a good day." He said in a begrudging tone.

"Hn... You too." Kai replied in the same manner, throwing the bag over his shoulder and wasting no time in leaving the house and starting on his walk to school.

x-x-x

"Hey are you okay? You've seemed a little, off today?" Lucas commented as the two head into the canteen. He knew Kai wasn't an overly chatty guy, but he seemed quieter than what he'd seen of him to date.

"Yeah just tired." It wasn't a complete lie. "Kinda hungry too."

"Shall we then? I know I could eat the ass off a dead rhino!" He chuckled, sitting himself down at a small two seater table and rummaging for his long awaited feast.

Joining him opposite Kai too dug into his backpack and pulled out the lunch box before setting the bag down by his feet. He was actually surprised considering how Brooklyn was this morning over breakfast that he'd even bothered to make him lunch at all.

Pft. Probably poisoned it or something... Nah. Maybe this was his way of apologising for being so petty.

Opening up the box though, he realised in an instant that it had all been too good to be true, and this stupid argument was in fact continuing.

Lucas was busy for a moment, savoring the pasta salad he'd so bravely made all by himself and pat himself on the back.

He glanced up, wanting to say something to Kai, when he noticed it.

"...Dude. What's up with your lunch?"

Kai dared to pick up the sandwich. (If it could even be called that.)

Taking in the mangled bread that looked like it had already been chewed up, the most pathetic minuscule amount of ham, a single slice of plastic cheese and browning lettuce.

Yep. Brooklyn was still pissed. The purple rock was obviously broken.

He let it drop back in the box. It was a no from him.

"Don't even ask."

Lucas looked in confusion and sympathy at that sad, sad lunch.

He grabbed his bag, rummaging through and finding the little box that held his fork and held up unused chopsticks victoriously.

"I thought I had them in here! Want to share mine? I made too much but didn't want to waste it." He offered.

Taken slightly back by the kind gesture, Kai blinked at him for a moment, looking to the chopsticks being held out to him before almost hesitantly taking them from him.

"Um sure, thank you... You eat what you want first though."

"Nahhhh just dig in! I hate eating alone!" Lucas waved off, pushing his box of salad to the middle so Kai could reach.

Sending him a small smile Kai uttered another word of thanks before helping himself though held back some anyway and let Lucas eat as much as he wanted; Was his lunch after all. That pathetic excuse that was his own would be going straight in the trash...

Lucas pat himself on the back as a second opinion confirmed it tasted decent and looked over at said sad lunch.

No yellow note telling him he was amazing?

Piss poor content?

Yesterday's sandwich had looked marvellous.

"So um. Trouble in paradise?"

Kai glanced up to him, noticing Lucas gesturing to his lunch box with his eyes and sent him a shrug.

"Nah, we're fine... It's just..."

You. And all of his other friends. And anyone he's ever spoken to ever, because god forbid he'd finally break his bullshit antisocial trait and became a pleasant human being.

"... Nothing. Don't worry about it."

Lucas opened his mouth to pry more, but the look on Kai's face told him to shut the hell up.

"Oh...well if you need to vent...bitches be crazy, right?" He chuckled awkwardly.

Beside himself Kai snorted at that and sent him a nod.

"Mhmm. Bitches definitely be crazy..."

Lucas smiled.

At least he made him laugh!

He continued to eat, the two of them going quiet as they did and glanced around the emptying hall.

"Heeeeyyyy! Look! There's a party! Freshman Friday! Wanna go!?" He beamed.

Kai sent him a dull look, both at the ridiculous name and at the suggestion before grabbing another piece of pasta.

"Do I really look like a party guy to you?"

Lucas titled his head.

"Yeh? Why not?"

Shaking his head at him, Kai set the chopsticks down on the table, feeling a lot better now that he'd finally had something to eat.

"Really not my thing," he admitted. "By all means though knock yourself out."

"Oh...okay." Lucas replied, deflated and clearly disappointed.

Sure...he could go without a wingman.

Kai noticed and instantly thought of his little blue eyed blonde puppy at the display opposite.

"You'll have a lot more fun without me. Trust me." He assured, brushing off the minuscule guilt and closed up his own lunch box before shoving it in his bag and pulling out his planner.

"Anyways, we got Ackerman next." He diverted. "Probably worth grabbing a coffee on our way over."

Lucas sighed and cleared away his well made pasta salad.

"Yeh...definitely. A few shots of espresso needed."

After what was a predictably tedious lecture on 'the language used throughout business' the school day came to an end, except for Kai unfortunately the worst wasn't over with yet. After that monstrosity in his lunch box he knew the worst was yet to come with Brooklyn clearly still pissed off with him and he could not with the petty games.

He pushed open the front door, not expecting any form of greeting and intended on heading straight for the kitchen to see what he could have for dinner as he wasn't expecting that to be made for him tonight either.

Only pissed off red was already at the counter peeling potatoes.

"Evening..."

Kai took it though went to the fridge regardless, Brooklyn was definitely tending to more than one portion there but he wasn't gonna risk it.

"Hn..."

There was a buzzing silence for a few moments before the redhead turned ever so slightly to half glance over his shoulder.

"Good day?"

"Mhm." Kai hummed, settling with just a bottle of water for now and pushed the fridge door to a close. "You?"

"Mhm." He hummed right back, running the peeler a little slower.

"...Enjoy your lunch?"

Kai's jaw clenched as did his grip on his water bottle.

Ohhh, he was really going to taunt him?

He paused for a moment, using everything within him to bite back the strong words he originally had but decided to go down a route that would for sure, piss the redhead off more.

"Yeah was delicious actually!" He seemed to instantly perk up. "Lucas shared his pasta salad with me. The dressing was, mm!" He chef kissed for emphasis. "Perfection."

Unscrewing the bottle cap Kai then took a drink before nonchalantly strolling out and heading for the living room.

Brooklyn's eye twitched and his hands shook a little as he tried to peel the potato that was being held in a death grip.

He gave up as rage took over, slamming the peeler down and going after him.

"Oh did he!? How nice that you're having picnics with your new fuckin squeeze!" He rose his voice, throwing the damp potato at the back of his head and enjoying the soft thud as it bounced off his thick, stupid skull in amongst his annoyance.

Slate brows instantly knit together at the nudge and became aware of what had just been launched at his head when he turned to see the small spud rolling on the floor.

D-did he just really throw a potato at his damn head?!

His expression contorted into a scowl as he looked up from the floor and locked onto Brooklyn no longer able to hold his frustration.

"Seriously?! Is that what you actually think? Three days Brook I've been there and you think I'm screwing someone else cos he gave me some lunch?! He isn't even gay you moron!"

"Oh please, no one has such well kept shoes unless they're a little gay!" Brooklyn scoffed back. "And what am I meant to think!? You sure took an instant shine to him! Shit on me right away in favor of him!"

It was true, Kai had taken an immediate liking to the guy and the longer he was spending with his new classmate it was slowly becoming clearer as to why. He could see each of the bladebreakers within him. Lucas was a perfect blend of all four. He was active, liked to laugh, joke and fool around. Pretty much covered the main three right there, though grabbing the sticky note before to investigate for himself was something Tyson wouldn't have hesitated to have done either.

The expression he'd pulled earlier after he'd rejected the party idea; That had Max written all over it. He hadn't tried to force him though even in his disappointment, just quietly accepted and didn't push any further. He respected his boundaries and within minutes was back to his smiley self as they head for their next lecture.

Like he was too, Lucas was also a pretty smart cookie. Sure he didn't particularly want to be there studying what they were but he was giving it all regardless and there was Kenny.

Besides the playful nature though he was also pretty calm and laid back. Kai felt at ease around him whether in the height of conversation or whether they were sat in a comfortable silence and he'd always felt like that with Ray. Decent enough cook too to have whipped up that pasta today.

It was no real surprise he liked him, all those traits he'd grown used to over years of knowing the others. Sorta felt like he knew him even after such a short time. Not to mention Lucas had zero clue or interest in who he was (in regards to his blading career.) There was no pestering to be shown techniques. No poking to be introduced to his team and using him as some kind of gateway to minor celebrities. Dude just wanted to hang out. With him. Because for once they had some small things in common that weren't spinning tops. And that was incredibly refreshing.

"How about just taking what I say as the truth and when I say he's just a friend that's exactly what he is!" Kai hurled back.

"Fine! Then what's your excuse for taking his side when you barely know him!?"

An exasperated sigh left him as it was clear Brooklyn wasn't ever going to drop this. He got it, he was upset over some childish comment, but he was done going round in circles here when every line of defence he sent him got shot down.

"I don't fucking need this," he then muttered more to himself as he rest a palm on his forehead. "Y'know what you can do Brooklyn if you really don't like what's going on here?"

Brooklyn's face got redder.

"Oh. I see. I'm upset at you being an asshole, so I can just pack up and leave. Is that where you're going with this?"

"How am I being an asshole right now?!" Kai yelled. "The only one that's being an asshole is you! Last night at dinner, this morning. I mean why even bother making me lunch if that's what you planned on doing with it?! The hell was the point?! I'm over the childish games Brooklyn so if I make you that unhappy, then sure, feel free to leave!"

Brooklyn's lip wobbled.

"You know, all I do is try and lift you up! I try my best to make you happy, support you with whatever you do! And you stand and say nothing when someone insults me and don't even see why that might hurt! So fine! If you can't see the point in standing up for me and tossing me out for being upset about it then I guess you give way less fucks about me than you claimed..." he ranted off, sniffling as he picked up the head bashed potato and storming his way back to the kitchen.

He couldn't tell which one was stupider. Kai or the dumb potato!

Brooklyn's words echoed in Kai's ears and with the slam of the door being the exclamation mark he was left in silence. He did care, more so than he'd ever done for another before. But the pettiness and lose/lose arguments were a game he could not be bothered with. He'd apologised to him. Lucas had apologised to him. Yeah, through him, but was still an apology all the same. The fuck else did Brooklyn want from him? To cut him off? Not speak to him anymore? Shit, once upon a time that wouldn't have really bothered him but Lucas was making this whole university thing a lot easier for him.

Brooklyn, not so much...

Taking his bag upstairs he went to go and be alone in his room. He had homework to do anyways...

Meanwhile, Brooklyn hacked away at the stupid Kai potato and sniffed.

He was such a dick sometimes!

Oh sure, side with Lucas!

Lucas, Lucas, Lucas!

What the fuck was Lucas to him anyway!? Just some douche!

...

At least he shared with him. Kai was probably starving.

That had been an abysmal sandwich...

But he deserved it! He was being a butt hole!

He sighed, going back to the potatoes a little less aggressively.

Sure, he was upset with him, but he shouldn't have starved him like that.

He just wanted him to know he'd hurt him...

Half an hour later, he tiptoed outside Kai's room, setting down a tray of creamy mashed potatoes and homemade fried chicken seasoned to perfection with some greens.

He held his breath before knocking on his door and scuttling off down the stairs like a rat.

Kai's mind had been completely preoccupied with the work on his desk to the point the sound almost made him jump and snapped his head towards the door.

Great, another argument?

Pushing himself away from his desk he stood up and took in his own breath before opening the door, expecting to lock with teal though no one was there. Instead the plate on the floor caught his attention and after another dubious glance around he knelt down and picked it up along with the cutlery.

Smelt delicious, though with Brooklyn's track record as of late he wasn't sure if he could trust the dish...

Sitting back down at his desk he almost hesitantly cut into the chicken, pulling it apart and checking it had been cooked through.

Seemed fine...

He cut a bite size piece and popped it into his mouth and chewed, a low moan sitting in his throat as his taste buds rejoiced.

Mmm the seasoning, and the potatoes! Even though one got launched at his head, it clearly helped as there wasn't a single lump within them.

Within minutes the plate was cleared, and Kai sat back in his chair satisfied. As nice as his lunch was he hadn't exactly had a great deal and was admittedly starving.

Best go thank the chef...

Brooklyn sat in the kitchen pushing his around his plate finding his appetite wanting.

There was no satisfaction in knowing he'd outdone himself for Kai. Knowing he just wiped away some stress from his day by feeding his body and therefore his soul.

Instead the air just held the tension.

Why was he pulling away from him? Asking him to leave if he wanted.

Of course he didn't want to leave.

Why would he say that? Surely it was a defensive move...right?

And whhhhyyyyy? Why was he siding with Lucas? Just like he sided with Tyson and the others?

Why wasn't he first?

"That was delicious, thanks..." Kai sheepishly sent him as he stepped into the kitchen and set his empty plate down on the counter along with the knife and fork.

Brooklyn jumped, not having been in the room mentally and set down his cutlery quickly.

He cleared his throat.

"Welcome..."

Kai seemed to linger, resting with his back against the counter now trying to act casual with his hands resting in his pockets.

"No I mean it, that chicken was something else... and the potatoes were amazing..."

Brooklyn lifted a brow, tapping his fingers on the table.

Part of him wanted to lap up the flattery, use it as an olive branch.

But that last word triggered him.

"Aw thanks...means a lot...even though last time I called you that, you crumpled it up."

Though the slate brows opposite lowered and knit together not following.

"The hell are you talking about now?"

Brooklyn folded his arms and kept his eyes forward away from him.

"Doesn't matter...clearly..."

Was fine...was just a little note.

Not like he put his heart in it...

At that Kai threw his hands up. He was done. So fucking done. What was clear, is that he wasn't going to win this regardless of what he did or said, and Brooklyn didn't wanna fix it either so why even bother?

He huffed out the kitchen and took himself back upstairs. Can't do nothing wrong if he just keeps himself to himself.

With his homework done and completed over an hour ago all Kai could do was lounge on his bed and aimlessly scroll on his phone. Going over their stupid argument and still not getting that last comment Brooklyn had jabbed him with.

Crumpled it up? Crumpled what up? When was the last time he'd called him amaz-

...

THE NOTE!

Ohhhh the damn sticky note...

He dropped his head into his hands at the realisation. He hadn't meant to! Lucas grabbed it and he just grabbed it back and shoved it in his bag.

Aw man he hadn't seriously taken that personally had he? Knowing Brooklyn of course he did...

Like clockwork, Brooklyn strolled in with his nose turned up. Picking up his nightwear and leaving to call unverbalized dibs on the shower.

He left Kai with his sigh and returned a short time later, dressed for bed and hair a little fluffier from the wash and slid in with his icy aura.

And. Of course. Rolling straight over.

Kai was laid on his back when he did. Arm up behind his head, his bare chest just there, inviting, perfect for a fluffy head of red though the fish didn't bite.

He reached and turned off the light and the two lay in silence like they had done the night previous.

The whole thing was stupid... And he was only going to try one more time to fix it...

Swallowing his pride for what felt like the fifteenth time, Kai shuffled over and threw his arm over Brooklyn's waist.

One teal eye opened, rolling to half look over his shoulder in the dark and scowled anyway.

"What are you doing?" He bit.

"Cuddling you," Kai firmly answered like it was obvious... which it was.

"Oh. Wanna snuggle up to me now?" Brooklyn muttered huffily, though didn't move either.

Kai just ignored him, letting the comment go and got himself comfortable behind him, sinking into the pillow they were now sharing.

Brooklyn rolled his eyes and did the same, sinking his head in before a small smirk cracked.

Aww...

His big stupid jerk...

But he didn't forgive that easily. Would take more than a little cuddle.

He let out a sleepy sigh, pushing his hips back juuuuust far enough to reach his goal and wriggled a little.

Kai didn't think much of the shift at first with Brooklyn settling a moment later. Except he did it again shortly after. And again shortly after that. Ass wiggling and periodically pressing up against his crotch and he was starting to get thoughts...

"You okay?" He asked, hand caressing and trailing to Brooklyn's hip.

"Yeh? Just getting comfortable?" He said as if it were obvious, though arched his back a little more over the steadily growing area behind him smugly.

Kai pressed his lips together, his hand lightly gripping Brooklyn's hip when his own pushed forward into his ass when he moved back again.

"Can help you with that if you want..."

Brooklyn let out a 'surprised' and 'offended' gasp.

"Excuse you?!"

Oh, be a lamb and do it...

His wish came true when the hand that had been sat on his hip snaked up to his shoulder and pulled him onto his back. His jaw being cupped after and Kai's lips pressed against his own.

He feigned minimal protest while simultaneously melting.

Yes! This was what he wanted!

Love! Intimacy! To be the center!

Reaching down to Brooklyn's inner thigh Kai parted his legs and climbed over positioning himself in between them. His tongue gently easing into his mouth and circling, deepening the kiss as his hands wandered lower.

Whilst a hole had been filled with the amazing dinner, turned out that Kai was still a little hungry, and he was craving some much needed make up dessert...

Brooklyn's hands latched in to the dark hair on the back of his head while his legs spread a little more.

Ooooooo he loved it when Kai took charge like this.

Hands continued to roam, gripping and groping.

Clothes were removed shortly after, carelessly discarded and forgotten on the bedroom floor.

Mouths and fingers were busy and preoccupied for some time and when the current actions weren't enough for either of them, Kai took it up a notch and got them well on their way to cloud nine. His face was buried in the crook of Brooklyn's neck, lips latched onto the clammy skin as his hips thrust in a deep and steady rhythm. A hand gripped on one of the legs at his side as the other was cupped lovingly yet possessive behind the head below him.

Brooklyn's voice vibrated through his ear as he moaned in to it, his own hands going from round his neck to down his back to meld their bodies together more.

This was exactly what he wanted from him...the proof and reassurance.

"Kai..." he groaned, head rolling back on the pillow while his hips writhed.

A hum sat in Kai's throat as he released the soft flesh leaving a reddened mark behind. He loved hearing Brooklyn say his name like that. Needy almost. It was clear he'd missed him like this.

His own sounds started to rumble out of him, grunts mixed with pants as his back continuously worked. Kai could tell by the way the fair hands were gripping at what they could that the male below was in bliss but a little extra confirmation never hurt anyone.

He switched up his rhythm, going slower but thrusting deep, and hard.

"You like, that?" He breathed between thrusts, "Tell me, how bad you want it..."

Brooklyn's mouth gaped open, head going limp on his pillow.

Yessss...he wanted to please him. Wanted to make him feel good.

"Oooooohhhh just like that...fuck you're deep..." his voice shuddered.

Being told what he wanted to hear caused the animal inside him to truly awaken and Kai's pace picked up again. Hips driving relentlessly into the body clinging onto him like he'd leave if he let go.

"You're mine... don't ever forget that..."

A sweaty smile came to his face as Brooklyn moaned out.

Oh could this get any better!?

His emotions and self esteem were being just as heavily tantalized as his body was.

"Ohhhh god yeeesss! Fuck me!"

And fuck him he did.

Pounded into him until they were both drenched in sweat and the bed was rocking like no tomorrow. Only stopping until an earth shattering orgasm soared through them both and they lay limp on the bed exhausted.

"How's... that... for amazing..."

Brooklyn lay panting, staring at the ceiling dishevelled to hell.

"Now the note makes more sense, huh?"

A breathy chuckle escaped Kai as he rolled off him in a heap, chest heaving and hair stuck to his face.

"You know I didn't scrunch it up on purpose, right?" He asked turning his head to him.

Brooklyn rolled his puppy eyes to him.

"You didn't?"

"Course I didn't..." He assured, beckoning for Brooklyn to come cuddle into him which he obliged to instantly.

"So why'd it go like that?" He asked softly as he nuzzled right in.

Thankfully with Brooklyn's line of vision facing downwards the expression above that had just paled some was missed. It was more than obvious to Kai now that Lucas wasn't exactly in his boyfriend's good books... would it really be wise bringing him up again? Even in their post coital state?

"Some random tried to read it." He brushed off. "Was for my eyes only so had to quickly stuff it away is all..."

Brooklyn looked up at him, Kai looking down before he could stop it and locking eyes.

For what felt like a realllllllly long time.

What was going on in that head...

He held his breath. Until finally Brook smiled.

Aw! He valued their privacy as a couple! Like the exclusivity!

He was the best.

"Oh. Okay!"

The knot of nerves instantly washed away as Brooklyn seemed to accept the answer. Wasn't even a lie it was exactly what happened. Just, missed a minor detail is all...

Brooklyn rolled in to him, red fluffy mop resting on his chest as his eyes fell closed.

"Good night. Love you..."

Kai smiled. This was much nicer.

"Love you too..."

x-x-x

Both slept like a log that night and woke as fresh as a daisy.

Contrary to the scene the previous morning Kai had been brought breakfast in bed, and was sent on his way to school attacked with hugs and kisses.

That kept him going until lunch, where as usual he was sat opposite the smiley brunette who seemed to be holding a look of uncertainty as Kai pulled out his lunch box.

Lucas pulled out his epic victory.

A mighty BLT that was mostly B!

Feeling himself salivate, he held off a moment to see what Kai had.

If it was a Ritz cracker with dust on it, he'd share again.

He waited anxiously as he opened it up, sitting up and going wide eyed at the gorgeous platter.

Not sandwich.

PLATTER!

He eyed it enviously.

"...Take it you made up?"

Kai glanced over to him, trying to fight the smug smirk but failed as he took in his lunch himself.

"Could say that..."

Lucas eyed him next, reading that smirk the only natural way a male would read it.

His own sly grin curled.

"My MAN!" He praised, offering his part of a high five.

Whatever possessed him he wasn't sure, perhaps the ego boost having him feel like the dog's bollocks, but Kai raised his hand without hesitation and connected it with the one opposite to complete the high five.

"Was whatever..." he then sheepishly brushed off. "No big deal..."

Lucas made a face and eyed the assortment of wonderful looking homemade food.

"I don't think so..." he giggled back, "looks like you killed it!"

Kai gave him a shrug, smirk still prominent as he lifted up one of the many sandwiches.

"Well... nyeahhh..."

Snorting he took a bite and pushed his lunch box between them, gesturing down to it with a nod of offering.

Lucas didn't need asking twice.

Ding ding ding! Win!

"So...you don't have to answer if its too personal. But...is it true there's like a dude G-spot up there?"

Kai wasn't sure whether to pale or blush. Really? Were they at this level of friendship already that they were gonna talk sex?

Ohh the disadvantages of being a man of wisdom and experience.

"Mhmm." He hummed and nodded with his mouthful, not really sure what other info to give on the subject. Wasn't gonna ask for a demonstration was he?

Lucas' eyes widened as he nodded.

"Nice..." he said in slight awe, "Looks like you found it, too." He giggled, biting in to the reward sandwich from Kai's box.

He let out a happy hum as the flavors exploded on his tongue.

"Mmmmm! Yep! Ya did!"

Kai let out another chuckle as the male opposite continued to hype him up like he was some kind of sex god. He'd always brushed off praise of his skills before but there was something weirdly boosting about another thinking he was amazing in the sack.

Which he was... obviously...

Lucas kept giggling in to his sandwich and looked at his watch.

"Welp. Get eating, Casa Nova. We got fifteen minutes to get to the other side of campus."

Mumbling an expletive with his mouthful of bread, Kai got a few more sandwiches down whilst Lucas assisted before the two had to take a post lunch sprint to their next class. Darting in and out of other students in the hall with Lucas continuing their joke and shouting:

'Watch out! Long schlong silver and his mate coming through!' as they went.

Kai didn't know whether to die from embarrassment or laughter.

He chose the latter.
