(Two Years Ago; at the Coumarine City Pokémon Showcase)

It was the final round of the Theme Performance. The previous rounds with only two slip ups from Performers. The theme of this Showcase was Pokémon Styling. Everything was going well, but for one particular Performer, things were about to go very wrong.

Gabriella Sapphire was a very experienced Trainer. She had competed in and won several Pokémon Leagues, the Battle Frontier, Grand Festivals, and the Pokémon Showcase. She was also a Pokémon Breeder. Right now, she was defending her title as Kalos Queen. But little did she know that this would be her last Showcase for a long time.

"Time for the secret finishing touches!" Monsieur Pierre announced as the windows of the Performers' chambers became opaque. Gabriella finished the costume of her shiny Sylveon, Lucius, who had just evolved as soon as the Theme Performance started.

"Time's up!" Pierre announced. "Please proceed to the runway. And first up," Monsieur Pierre had his Klefki unlock the first chamber. "Blanca and her Pokémon, Meowstic!"

Blanca and her female Meowstic walked down the runway, then back up to their position on the stage.

"Next up, Clarisse and her Pokémon, Fletchling!" Pierre announced. Like Blanca, Clarisse and her Fletchling went down and back up the runway with no issues.

"And last but not least, Gabriella and her Sylveon, Lucius!" Monsieur Pierre told the audience.

Gabriella and Lucius began to walk the runway. The audience loved Lucius' suit and the new appearance his evolution gave him.

"Isn't this fun, Lucius?" Gabriella asked her Pokémon.

"Sylve!" Lucius agreed happily.

Suddenly, everything seemed to go in slow motion as Lucius accidentally stepped on one of his ribbon-like feelers, causing him to trip and fall. Having just evolved from an Eevee, he wasn't used to having them, or the risk of stepping on them.

"Veon!" he cried out in alarm and pain as he fell to the floor. As soon as he hit the ground, he let out a blood-chilling scream that echoed loudly around the entire venue. "SYLVEON!"

"Lucius!" Gabriella screamed as she knelt by her injured Pokémon while the audience gasped in horror.

Meanwhile in the Performers' waiting room, Lucius' best friend (and future girlfriend), Moon the shiny Eevee, gasped as well. "Eevee!"

Lucius tried to get up, but immediately collapsed again as searing pain shot up his hind leg again. He let out another heart-wrenching shriek, tears streaming down his face. "VEON!"

Gabriella hugged Lucius, stroking his back in an attempt to comfort him as she tried not to cry herself. His leg felt like it was on fire; it was swelling up and twisted in an unnatural position. It was definitely broken.

Lucius managed to stand up, wrapping his feelers around Gabriella's arm for support. He limped heavily, not putting any weight on his right hind leg once as they walked to their place on the stage. Gabriella kept her head down as they walked. Lucius still didn't put his foot on the floor as they waited for the Theme Performance to end.

Having lost that round, Gabriella was not allowed to finish the Showcase, also causing her to lose her title as Kalos Queen. Not wanting to watch the rest of the Showcase, she rushed Lucius to the Pokémon Center as fast as she could. A Performer named Aria ended up becoming the new Kalos Queen.

Early the next morning, after crying her eyes out and being comforted by her Pokémon, Gabriella had her long, ash-blonde hair cut and dyed black. She also completely changed her outfit, replacing the bright and light colors for mainly black and near-black colors. Moon had also evolved into an Umbreon while waiting for Lucius to have his leg treated.

After that failure, she decided to focus on her Pokémon Adoption Center and also building up Team Pikavee.
