Severus Snape didn't know what to think of the 'transfer student' he was currently holding onto a moldy sock with. He was creepy, to say the least, and he would look at everything with a cold eyed stare and give a better 'unimpressed' look than himself.

When they arrived just within the Leaky Cauldron, Snape looked towards Kakashi expecting to see any bit of emotion, but all he saw was a one eyed cold stare that examined the room and narrowed in on all the possible exits.

Snape knew that this boy was probably more cautious than Moody, and he was good at hiding it too. Snape looked around the Leaky Cauldron and found that the Innkeeper, Tom, was standing at the bar cleaning a glass with a rag.

When they reached the bar, Kakashi was looking at the choices of drinks with something akin to amusement in his eye. Snape had already figured out that Kakashi was probably a very mischievous person and had decided to keep him under a close watch once school started.

"Hello, Severus!" Tom greeted him cheerfully. "Is this a new student? It's rare for you to be the one to bring them here, and he looks a bit too old. What's with that mask?"

"You wear dresses and have people with literally every color of skin and you think my mask is weird?" Kakashi asked sarcastically. Snape had to admit that he did love Kakashi's sense of humor sometimes, as long as it wasn't directed towards himself.

"...Well, I suppose you've got a point." Tom said after considering Kakashi's question seriously, making Kakashi snort. "Anyway, do you need anything?" This time the question was directed towards Severus.

"Yes, Kakashi needs a place to stay for the rest of summer. He'll also probably be visiting Hogwarts frequently for several days at a time." Severus said, and Tom just grinned and gave Kakashi a key.

Severus, almost immediately after Kakashi put the key in his pocket, turned and went out the back door of the inn. Once they were standing in front of the entrance Severus turned to Kakashi and expected some sign of confusion but all he got was a blank stare.

"Well? Are you going to tap the bricks?" Kakashi asked.

"How did you know?" Snape asked, surprised.

"I can see magic signatures, so it isn't that hard to guess when certain bricks are coated with more magic than others." Kakashi explained and Snape's eyes widened in shock.

"How?" Severus asked, finding himself asking more and more questions about Kakashi's abilities even though he had doubted them earlier.

"Easy, I just put a high concentration of magic in my eye." Kakashi said.

"You have the ability to control your magic energy?" Severus asked.

"Yeah, that's how I walked on the wall too. I put energy into my feet, I can also walk on ceilings and water."

"That must take a lot of practice." Severus said, slowly gaining respect for this complete stranger.

"Yeah, it took me a week to learn how to walk on walls. I can also concentrate a bunch of energy into my hands and shoot it at people to create a massive indestructible weapon." Kakashi said, startling Snape with all of the information he was giving.

"Are you supposed to be telling me this?" Severus asked.

"There's no way you can do it, so there really isn't any harm in telling you. Besides, the reason I'm here is to teach Dumbledore about my village's magic."

"May I ask you a question?" Severus asked hesitantly.

"You just did." Kakashi said snarkily.

"Hmm, does your village usually have children kill others?"

"Nah, most of the assassin's are in their twenties and thirties, I'm just a prodigy. I went into assassination to cope with the loss of some of my friends. It helped me forget." Kakashi said, going quiet as he went on.

"You know, Snape-sensei, I can tell that you lost someone close as well. You have those eyes." Kakashi said, and Severus looked at him intensely. "You probably loved them, but you pushed them away and you never got to apologize because when you finally realized you would rather be friends than be enemies, they were already dead."

"How do you know this?" Severus asked sharply, he had not told anyone except Dumbledore his feelings for Lily and this kid had just summed up everything he felt in one sentence.

"Because I did that too. I had two friends who I treated horribly because I thought I was better than them. They both died because of me and I never got the chance to treat them like real friends. May I ask who it was for you?" Kakashi asked.

"I… I'll tell you later when we're at Hogwarts again. Right now you need to get a wand and school books. I'm sorry about your friends." Severus said. He knew that this boy had a very horrible life, worse than his own, and he felt sorry for him, but he also understood him.

Snape tapped on the bricks and the wall opened up. He looked down towards Kakashi, expecting a reaction at least this time, but the boy just gave the same bored stare, his eyes flickering to all the shops and memorizing everything he could.

"We don't need to go to the bank since Dumbledore gave me money, so let's get your robes first." Snape said, nodding towards Madam Malkin's robe shop.

"Dumbledore said that I didn't need robes since I am currently wearing my school uniform." Kakashi said coldly, eyeing the robes as if they were evil. Snape could clearly see that the boy just didn't want to wear a 'dress' as he called them.

"Then we should get your wand." Snape said and they walked into Ollivanders. Snape looked around, not knowing where the old man would appear from this time, but he noticed the Kakashi was staring intently at the back corner of the room. A few moments later, Ollivander appeared in that exact location and Snape glanced towards Kakashi to see him eye-smiling innocently.

"What an interesting young man." Ollivander said as he walked closer to the pair. "Dumbledore has already informed me of your origins, don't worry I won't tell a soul."

"Would the wand be different because of where I am from?" Kakashi asked.

"Well, not usually, but I am most certain that you definitely will get an interesting wand." Ollivander said, his eyes twinkling. Kakashi just stood there and patiently waited for him to continue, not asking any questions. Snape could see the disappointment in the old wandmaker's eyes.

"Anyway, which hand is your wand hand?" Ollivander asked and Kakashi stuck out his right hand. Ollivander's tape measurer measured the length of his arm. Not a minute later the tape measurer was dancing along every part of Kakashi's body, from his legs to his head to around his waist.

"Is this necessary?" Kakashi asked, his voice still emotionless even though the tape measurer was currently rubbing itself against his ass.

"Hmm? Oh, no it's not. The tape just has a mind of its own sometimes." Ollivander said and Kakashi narrowed his eyes slightly and moved his hand so quickly that Snape couldn't even see it as he grabbed the tape.

"Here you go." Kakashi said, putting it on the store keeper's desk and backing away from it cautiously. Snape had to hide a smirk as Kakashi's eye continued to glance over at the tape measurer from time to time as Ollivander searched for a wand.

Ollivander went into a side room and came back holding a very ancient wooden box. "This has been passed down through my family for generations. We no longer know who made it or where it came from, but I would like to try it out with you." He took out a long wand that was pitch black with silver wrapping around it.

"The length is 13 inches but I don't know the wood or the core. Please try it." Ollivander said, handing the wand to the boy. Kakashi gingerly grasped it and his eye widened slightly but the wand gave no visible change. Ollivander looked disappointed but Kakashi suddenly looked up at him.

"Mr. Ollivander, are you sure you don't know what this is made out of?" Kakashi asked.

"I'm sure, I've tried many times to figure it out. Do you know, perhaps?" Ollivander asked.

"It's made out of a material that reacts to white magic that is passed down through my family on the paternal side. My Tanto was made out of this before it broke and I've never found the material again." Kakashi said, still fingering the wand.

"Are you saying that it reacted to you? But nothing happened." Ollivander asked.

"My magic reacted. Look." Kakashi flicked the wand and suddenly a bright silver light burst out of it in the form of a wolf.

"Is that…?" Snape stuttered.

"Yes, that is a patronus." Ollivander said, staring wide eyed at Kakashi in wonder.

"A patronus?" Kakashi asked, slightly curious as he watched the wolf dance around the wand shop and stop to sniff at the tape measurer before heeling at Kakashi's side.

"A very powerful spell that even some adult wizards can't produce. In order to cast it you have to think of your happiest memory and have powerful magical abilities." Snape said, finally coming to his senses. "It is used to protect against dementors, the guards of azkaban."

"That's interesting." Kakashi said before turning back to Ollivander. "Can I buy it?"

"Yes, of course. I've never seen such a powerful reaction, you must be a wizarding prodigy." Ollivander said, excitement lacing his every word. "That would be two gallions."

After they paid and left, Snape took him to a bookstore and bought all of the books for the first two years as well as the ones for this year. "You need to catch up so read these. I'll be back in a week to bring you to Hogwarts so that I can test you." Snape said, wondering if the boy could really finish all the books in only a week. Kakashi just nodded and Snape left him in the middle of the Leaky Cauldron.
