Chapter 4: Naboo's Resistance
Hey guys. Well, I decided on a city of Naboo that I would live in that I found on Wookiepedia when I looked up cities on Naboo. Still hoping bad for some reviews right now as I've only gotten one so far.
The Dicar family land speeder sped toward the city of Kaadara in the hopes of getting to the bunker. The city was a small one near an ocean, but with the emergency alert being broadcasted, it was long before they came to a traffic jam of other speeders all trying to get to the nearest bunker as well.
Samal looked up and saw the laser fire still in space, as well as ships coming down toward them. There had to be hundreds, if not thousands of them. Fighters for doing damage, and shuttles carrying ground troops. They were coming too fast! Samal knew they would never make it to the bunker in time. There was too much traffic! What were they going to do?
Then a Naboo police air speeder came speeding up through the air above them.
"Attention citizens. An emergency deputization is in effect! If you possess any fighting skills and are aged eighteen or over you may join the police and Naboo soldiers in battle!"
"I'm going!" Samal said as he made to exit from the speeder and join the police and newly enlisted deputies.
"Samal no!" Don said.
Samal froze at his fathers voice.
"You could get hurt!" Don said.
"I know that!" Samal said.
Many Samal's age might have thought of themselves as invincible, like they could never get involved in an accident. But Samal knew better, no one was invincible. He knew there was a chance he could get hurt or even killed, especially if he were to run into an actual Sith Lord. He'd heard tales of their dark side powers, that they could lift people into the air, choke them to death without making direct contact, or even create a storm of electricity.
"Samal… please… I don't want to you to put yourself in danger." Don choked out.
"Samal… you are a man now…" Lisa said. "You are free to make your own choice. If you want to fight, do it. Your father and I will get to the bunker."
"What? But…"
"Do it!" Lisa ordered her husband. "Samal, make your choice now!"
Samal looked ahead, traffic beginning to move once more. On the streets, cops and soldiers were marching with pistols and rifles and many citizens, some of which were in night clothes as they'd had to leave home with little time. Samal had to act now. Join the battle or stay with his family where it was safe?
Samal had long hungered for the chance to be an actual battle, but now it was so near. He actually felt fear, he was tempted to go with his family and avoid the danger. But he hated that feeling. It made him feel like a coward, and so he pushed it down. Closing his eyes and steeling himself, Samal leapt out of the speeder. He gave his family a final look before what was going to be his first and (if he was unlucky enough) his last battle. They all looked at him with sad expressions, fear on their faces. Samal wanted to promise them he would come back alive, but he didn't have a guarantee of that and he didn't want to make a promise he didn't know he could keep.
Instead he said, "I'll do my best."
That was all he could be sure of.
A tear ran down Lisa's cheek as she looked away and drove the speeder ahead. Samal took a deep breath and turned away as well. This was it, the moment he'd always known was going to one day happen… the moment he'd dreamed for. His first battle. He was a warrior, always had been.
The Naboo soldiers and police all ran past him, though one stopped to greet him.
"Here to join us?" a soldier in an elaborate uniform.
"Yes." Samal replied.
"Yes sir!" the soldier corrected him.
"Right sorry sir!" Samal apologized.
"I'm Captain Pakano, I hope you've trained with those weapons!"
"Yes sir. I'm one of the best shooters and swordsman in my class at the Echani Academy here!" Samal said trying to sound confident.
"Good. Now follow us recruit!" Pakano said as he ran off with the rest of them.
"Right sir," Samal said as he took off.
They only ran about a quarter mile through the city before Samal began to feel tired. He might have been a skilled fighter but he had one major weakness he knew of. Stamina. It didn't long for him to get tired from lots of physical activity. He could run for a couple minutes but not much more. He was panting for breath as other soldiers began to pass him, and even several citizens as well.
Then he felt a clap on his back.
"Don't get exhausted before the battle even starts Samal!" Yusano said as he came up alongside his best friend.
"Good to see you are alive Samal!" Brano said. "Let us hope we all stay that way."
Both the Echani Master and his son were clad in armor of their culture. Brano carried a force pike in his left hand, a long metal staff topped with a sharp vibropoint. Despite the name, the weapon held no connection to the Jedi or the force. But it was a deadly weapon in the hands of a skilled user, and Brano being a master of martial arts was certainly that. They lightly jogged as they continued forward. Samal powerwalking behind them, trying to conserve his energy for when he would need it. They came to a barricade with a couple dozen officers, soldiers, and recruits taking positions behind a cluster of police and military speeders or tanks.
"Everyone take cover behind something and get down!" Pakano ordered.
Samal walked up to one of the speeders and knelt down, peering his head about it. Then something inside him seemed to pull his gaze upwards.
"Here they come! Arm yourselves!" Pakano said as he aimed his blaster rifle.
The shuttles that had been flying down toward them in the sky now landed. Samal drew his blaster pistol, holding it with both hands and aiming. Brano did the same, setting his force pike down on the ground in front of them so he wouldn't be restricted to one hand. Yusano, like Samal he held his blaster with both, one hand on the trigger, the other on the long barrel. This would be the moment that all their training would have to count in.
"Remember to stay calm," Brano reminded his son and student.
"Yes father," Yusano said.
"Yes sir," Samal said.
The shuttle hatches opened and squads of Sith troopers in dark armor that nearly blended into the night poured out.
"Open fire!" Pakano ordered.
Blaster bolts shot back and forth. Samal shot his pistol several times but didn't seem to hit anything. Finally, on perhaps his fifth shot, he hit one of the troopers in the face, killing him instantly. The Sith troops began to fall by the blaster fire from the resistance. Then police airspeeders rained their own volleys of laser fire from above. The Sith were quickly overrun by those.
It was starting to look well. Until another group of shuttles came down. From one emerged not another squad of Sith Troopers, but true Sith. Three of them, all wearing dark robes. They each ignited their weapon, red blades of energy. The lightsabers came to life with snap-hisses. The sight of the three Sith… whether they were all lords or not, struck fear into the soldiers, police, and raw recruits. A single Sith Lord was said to be a match for a hundred troops.
The Sith began to walk towards them, flanked by their soldiers that came out of the next shuttles while their star fighters began to go after the Naboo airships. One soldier shot a bolt, only to have it deflected back at him by the tallest Sith.
"Everyone stay back!" Brano said as he picked up his force pike then got up from behind the speeder, sheathing his blaster. "Leave the Dark Lords to us!"
Us? Samal thought then realized what was going on. The Sith are able to deflect blaster bolts back at them with their lightsabers. So a blaster would be inadvisable against them. In that case, it will have to be close combat. We're trained in that.
Following their mentor and father's example, Samal and Yusano both put away their own blasters and drew their melee weapons. Samal, his black and blue MEI Avenger Vibrosword and Yusano his purple handled Echani Vibrosword. This was going to be a tough battle. The three martial artists walked toward the three Sith. The middle one looked at Samal with interest. She was a Sith pureblood with red skin and eyes, a gold pair of gold earrings on her ears and a dark ponytail for hair. She put up a hand, signaling her troops to stop for a moment. They did so.
"You! I sense the force in you," the leading Sith lady said as she pointed her lightsaber at Samal. "It is very strong with you. You should join us!"
Samal glared at her.
"No thanks."
The Sith lady cackled and raised her hand. "I didn't say you had a choice. You will join us! Or you will die!"
She turned to her subordinates. "Kill them my apprentices! But take that one alive!"
"Yes Master!"
The two Sith with her stepped forward. One of them a tall cyborg with black armor on. He was mostly machine, his right eye a lit up orb of light that shined in the darkness. The other was a figure with his features covered with a metal Sith mask and hood.
"I shall be the one to kill them first" the cyborg said.
He rushed into the fray, his ruby blade flourishing.
"Don't kill the one on the left!" the masked Sith said, but Samal now realized it was a girl under that mask.
"I won't… but who says I have to capture him whole!" the cyborg Sith as he came upon them.
…
The Comorus Eagle came out of hyperspace, and Master Ralon was dismayed to see the battle happening.
"Oh no… we're too late."
"Should we join the battle, master?" Jaster asked.
"Yes… but on the ground. We come here for the boy, and we will get him. Drop us off on the planet then head back up here," Ralon said.
"Right General Ogan!" Sergeant Casca said.
"I want to kill something!" Vaug hissed in the trandoshan language.
"T4, take over the piloting." Baul Kur said to his astromech.
T4 beeped in response then plugged into the droid switch that gave him access to the ship's system.
"You'll get your chance, since we'll be needing an extra crew to man a turret." Baul said to Vaug.
"Arr!" Rorarr roared.
"I'll make sure not to get us killed!" Vaug protested at the Wookie's remark.
Well here's the start of the battle, but its far from over yet. You might be able to tell but Vaug and the Wookie Rorarr don't get along, Trandoshans are hunters and slavers and Wookies are some of their usual victims if I recall correct. Been a couple weeks since I last updated this story. I hope you guys are liking and will leave a review at some point. I came up with a design for my own lightsabers which will hopefully come up in 10 chapters or so. We'll see. I won't spoil anything though.
